@@pearz420 Not bad art direction and twitter politics. It failed because it was an average game in an oversaturated market. A hero shooter after overwatch, with MOBA elements after League, combining the worst of them both, that being the issue of League games being too long and too serious to be a fun game to jump on for a little bit, and the issue of overwatch being that so many characters means many aren't balanced. Add in that it advertised a campaign, but it was super short levels and always-online, and it's death by a thousand cuts. If I wanted to play a fun hero shooter, I'd play overwatch. If I wanted to play a MOBA, I'd play League. They're clashing genres, so they're not going to work well together. Maybe they have got the gameplay down but every else is quite bland. The skins and weapons feel like CoD. The character design is also very CoD but since it is much more class based, they should have really try that Overwatch kind of design with distinct silhouette and contrasting colors. If they want to keep their design they should have just make different class as different loadout and those load out have different silhouette. Alas, the nail in the coffin is really the over-saturated market. The competitive crowd prefers CS, the casual fun prefers CoD, the big map guys prefers BF or PUBG, the more team guys prefers Siege or Overwatch. Hell, even the niche is filled with Titanfall and Destiny. If he wanted to have a place in the market. He should have waited for CoD's fall then replacing them as the fast pace quick match casual fun guy.
@@The.Orange.Wizard given how Dark Souls is notorious to many as a very challenging game, far more difficult than many AA and AAA games of its time and to some extent even today, Cliffy likely threw that line around to be very clearly smug about how Lawbreakers is a game that only the most super skilled pro FPS players can play. "I understand you have feelings, but this is business." I can't believe any human could reach a level of arrogance needed to have a big, proud, public chuckle at the people who made you everything you are. You like talking business, Mr. Complex Last name, here are a few terms. "Brand loyalty." "PR". "Consumer Confidence". Oh. Almost forgot. "Bankruptcy".
You shouldn't have to defend a game and a company with horrible PR like this, and it's perfectly fine to let your view of a person influence a product, but what he says outwardly is no different at all than what almost every other company uses as their business model. So many companies will only see their fanbase as numbers on a screen and dollars in the bank because it's the only thing they can afford to see them as, he's right, it is a business and he doesn't have to pander to your feelings or views on the matter. The only thing I begrudge this man is making people believe he is the problem when he's actually made people feel comfortable with their first impressions. The only thing that makes this man different is his extreme extroversion and outward PR model, he is no different, and if you abhor this game and this company only because of this behavior, you show to him and other companies that the flowery bullshit that they spew to make people feel safe works, and to deviate from that means you will suffer. You are punishing honesty when he is at as much fault as the other big companies, gaming or otherwise.
And now we can say it back to him. "I get that you have feelings, cool, but this is business Clifford." Too many in the games industry want a rabid, fanatical fanbase, but don't want to deal with the consequences.
@@SomeOne-vf1rs forgot that the flowery bullshit that they spew to make people feel safe actually works. Why do you think PR is so important. They see you as a number, but they know, that people don't buy with that mindset. The feelings of your consumer base are important, to a certain degree. People even avoid watching movies with actors they don't like for any personal reason. Which is why the Picture you give the public has to be somewhat neutral and over all positive. It helps the numbers.
it's honestly nice to see games like Cyberpunk 2077 and No Man's Sky outgrow the content we see in Crowbcat's compilations, but the schadenfreude in this video will continue to age like a fine wine
Cyberpunk is just a bit more content and making it stable enough to not brick your console/PC. It is still fundamentally mediocre. No Man's Sky still has the most impressive glow up among games in decades.
Can you even imagine anything more childish? Refusing to put your game on a perfectly good console just because you personally don’t like it? And then say “haha those fanboys kinda salty though” in a professional interview as if you are cool or something for doing that?
Despite all of that. He's a horrible businessman. That's potential money you're throwing for trying to sound like a a fan boy for consoles. That's our job. This man is not about his money
Yeah that stuff and the part where he was gloating about how salty the XBox fans were. Grow up you fucking loser. So glad this game died and he's no longer relevant. I have no interest in consoles and am very glad that war seems to finally be dead, but you want to release to a wider audience so everyone can play. Excluding one platform because you're a little bitch won't get you any praise.
This, I can't believe the arrogance. How can you try to enter an over saturated market, offer nothing new and then expect to charge 30$ when a lot of your competitors have FTP options. They called me mad in the Battleborn forums for saying not being FTP and releasing next to Over Watch was suicide, where's their game now?
It's honestly hilarious that the advertisements tried so hard to say that it was hardcore and difficult and made for adults and then a team with a little kid wins an official match. There's a reason why many games are so casual and colorful now, a vast majority of players WANT that. The moment Cliff said it was the Dark Souls of hero shooters and tried to compare itself to Overwatch when that game alone has over 30 million players [and people already had the free alternative, Paladins] AND they decided to slap a price-tag after saying it was F2P, they shot themselves on the foot.
You know why Fortnite gave(and is still giving) that hugeee competition to PUBG? Coz it's free. Had Battle Royale mode for Fortnite been 30$, nobody would have given two fucks about it. 30$ from F2P was a dick move.
It feels weird looking back on this, since there's a lot of decent points that Cliffy B touched on that are legitimate complaints, but he just went about expressing them in a terrible way, or learned the exact wrong lesson from them. 1. AAA games were incredibly oversaturated in 2015 with old I.P's. 2. Leading with PC first *does* allow them to port onto consoles more easily if they do a lot of the legwork and establish a solid PC build first. 3. eSports was overhyped (and we're now currently living through its bubble bursting), and felt like it was crammed into every game. All of these are valid, and somehow he just communicated them in such a caustic way that nobody wanted to touch it.

Battleborn actually had a lot of potential but it was ruined by bad art direction and Twitter-tier political nonsense.
It would have made more sense and perhaps less cringy if he compared it to Quake and Unreal Tournaments, multiplayer games known for having a skill floor high enough that only those with the skills and tenacity can keep up

"I understand you have feelings, but this is business."
I can't believe any human could reach a level of arrogance needed to have a big, proud, public chuckle at the people who made you everything you are.
You like talking business, Mr. Complex Last name, here are a few terms. "Brand loyalty." "PR". "Consumer Confidence".
Oh. Almost forgot.
"Bankruptcy".
Amen
"I get that you have feelings, cool, but this is business Clifford."
Too many in the games industry want a rabid, fanatical fanbase, but don't want to deal with the consequences.
Wait can you give the time when he said that?
it's honestly nice to see games like Cyberpunk 2077 and No Man's Sky outgrow the content we see in Crowbcat's compilations, but the schadenfreude in this video will continue to age like a fine wine
Cyberpunk is still ass
Cyberpunk is just a bit more content and making it stable enough to not brick your console/PC. It is still fundamentally mediocre. No Man's Sky still has the most impressive glow up among games in decades.
i like how the ceo keeps burning bridges left and right before the game even took off.
He took the brie Larson approach lmao
“I don’t care about your feelings, this is a business.”
“I’m not putting it on XBOX cause I hate XBOX.”
Can you even imagine anything more childish? Refusing to put your game on a perfectly good console just because you personally don’t like it? And then say “haha those fanboys kinda salty though” in a professional interview as if you are cool or something for doing that?
Literally, but it’s not like Xbox players would even want it anyway lol
Despite all of that. He's a horrible businessman. That's potential money you're throwing for trying to sound like a a fan boy for consoles. That's our job. This man is not about his money
Yeah that stuff and the part where he was gloating about how salty the XBox fans were. Grow up you fucking loser. So glad this game died and he's no longer relevant.
I have no interest in consoles and am very glad that war seems to finally be dead, but you want to release to a wider audience so everyone can play. Excluding one platform because you're a little bitch won't get you any praise.
I need that profile pic in my life
The game was fine but the way it was advertised and the move from ftp to $30 sunk the ship.
Nepu-Tech USA karma to those
Dr . Wub only 39 players play in a 24 hour period.. rip
He may have made some good points, but the game just wasn't good. That's all it comes down to.
@@benjaminkey5810the game was killed by the insane business strategy and the lead’s insufferable personality. Terrible marketing didn’t help. Never even heard about this game in 17

I swear. I dont have a problem with swearing.
But for some reason hearing a CEO swear while promoting their game makes me less likely to buy it..
It's because its unprofessional, and thus makes me think its going to be an unprofessional product.
It sounds unprofessional, feels like your friend from school telling you about this new awesome game he likes cause is better than the other, and not like someone trying to sell it to you
I don't mind it being unprofessional, the problem is that it's almost ALWAYS "trying to be cool" when it's not. Look how edgy they are oooh, it always comes off as tone deaf.

Never say you’re the “dark souls” of anything. If it falls even a little short of that claim, your game will fail
What even is that claim anyway? "Oh it's the Dark Souls of FPS" what does that even mean?
Perfectly Fine basically a very hard FPS
It refers to the fact Dark souls is unique in it's difficulty curve. Most games spoon feed you and hold your hand and it's lame. Dark souls gives you a challenge Dark souls isn't hard per se but its hard to learn. Once you get it down it's not so hard.
