No, because she was talking aboot the television. You know how cool the television is? I love the television. There's nothing cooler than the television.
Julie Uhrman just reeked "No, I don't like video games" energy from the very start. Swap out Ouya for any other Kickstarter plastic and she runs the company the exact same way.
When I was back in secondary school, I remember my friends and I were talking about games and consoles like normal. And I remember someone said "Did you hear about the Ouya? It's going to be the fourth home console alongside PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii." And that was the last I heard anything about it ever again.
I think its funny how Nintendo gets so much shit for trying new things and actually trying to bring something new to the table every once in awhile, but that enough people sat back and actually paid money to get this shit going (approximately 8 million bucks worth?) and it does absolutely nothing new. It just goes to show how strong the bias really is in this industry. The woman didn't even research the market before going for the Ouya. "You wont find a touchpad on a controller ANYWHERE else-" "But the Playstation controller has a touchpad." "Yup, that's right. They could make it for that." Like... what??? That wasn't even a response. What she should have done as a CEO is look through the market, find out what people like, what has been done in the past and make an informed decision based off that. But instead she went for the home console market like it's never been done before. Or I suppose if her unique take was to allow hackers to advance it for her, then sure, that's something. But she said so herself, there was nothing special about the motherboard. She didn't even try. I feel sorry for all the backers who wasted their time and money looking forward to this insanity. Looking back on this video years later, its fun to laugh at. But it just saddens me that those people just didn't go out and buy an actual console instead. So bad.
This is completely unrelatble question, but are you from Britain? I notice that in the United states we call it middle school and people from England call elementary school primary school.

So, they made a console that is essentially like those 90's plug and play bootleg systems that had nintendo clones on them but this woman had the absolute balls to go from convention to convention talking about a revolution. What an amazing story.
I still no clue how they managed to fool so many people. They never spoke about anything specific, it's always meaningless marketing speech. No specs, no games, nothing. It's just an outdated Android TV Box (came out with Android 4 in 2015 lmao). That's it. And CEO that clearly had no idea what she was talking about. People are just too gullible, I guess. At least, they learned... I hope.
2 years late but... I hate it when she got off scot-free when the product failed from inaccuracies and failed statements that weren't met. And the fact that she lives off the money from the rest of the capital funding she got.
This console's existence is still hilarious 7 years later. Can't believe these people were so high on their own pretentiousness that they actually that thought they were somehow "resetting" the industry by selling you a $100 children's toy that played phone games.
I doubt any of them played many games. Just a bunch of Silicon Valley hacks who had watched enough TED talks and Steve Jobs speeches to ramble out a bunch of buzzwords trick a shitload of people into funding them. Too bad they had absolutely no idea to create the revolution they promised.

Honestly the concept wasn’t inherently terrible. Allowing indi devs the opportunity to create “console” games while only dedicating the resources of a mobile game is pretty cool. Emulators would’ve been pretty cool too. Unfortunately a library of nothing but basic phone games that weren’t designed to be played on a controller or large screen pretty well killed it.

Y’all sleeping on the Ouya, it makes a great paper holder if you are willing to pay 99$. Also the controller is very useful for when you want to throw something at the ground.
Honestly not a bad investment, have an ouya controller that you can smash whenever you get frustrated at a game so you can have the authentic experience of breaking a controller without destroying something valuable
For the people confused by her fixation on the television, the "selling point" of the OUYA was primarily to put mobile games onto the "Television", which is why it ran Android. Mobile was much friendlier to the indie dev at a time when indie games had only just begun making their way into the mainstream console market. The concept is terribly flawed, but interesting. The execution however, was a failure at basically every level, and the CEO, Julie Uhrman, was the *worst* possible choice for the job of managing or promoting it. As is quite obvious here, she knows literally nothing about the gaming industry, let alone the gaming console industry. Also, *insert joke about Television here.*
The concept of putting mobile onto TV is Great. But making a brand new console just for it is not. Tbh they should just do something to make casting it easier with no delay.
@@drmikehuntphd7905 the console launched about half a decade a go But if you are talking about casting device Yes i know But to me atleast I found them to have a significant delay. And instead of just a better casting device They could just add better feature for better gaming.
Aesen1 funny, I think that along with the whole “there’s literally nothing special about it” is a bit fishy. It’s almost as if they were trying to release utter garbage, *remove* features after launch and actually be terrible at marketing as a precursor, just to see if there are still idiots who will throw money at products. And it worked, to an extent.. Reminds me of a video from The Onion, saying Dominos are putting literal garbage on pizzas, because people are just buying it anyways
When I was about 15 I was absolutely excited because my Mom was going to buy one of these for me new from gamestop. I had grew up in severe poverty and had never really had a consol other than a Gameboy. When we got to the Gamestop something made me change my mind and get a used PS2 instead... Looking back that was probably the best decision I have ever made, lmao. Sure the PS2 was old, but I had never experienced it. I got to play great games like GTA for extremely cheap. Definately a better buy than the Ouya.
Great consoles like the PS2 never get old, just mostly undiscovered by later generations. Many kids now probably don't remember it at all but that is ok. As long as they are told about it and possibly discover it on their own, the PS2 experience will be like something exciting and new to them.
The sad thing about PS2 is moving parts, and the fact it's even more unlikely you'll find a PS3 that is backwards compatible as the earlier models were more prone to failure. But many of the better titles are available on PSN at least, and may be even cheaper that way.

So bad.
I think it was made to compete against the PS4, XBOX ONE and WII U. It lost easily cause it was trash

Honestly the concept wasn’t inherently terrible. Allowing indi devs the opportunity to create “console” games while only dedicating the resources of a mobile game is pretty cool.
This needs to be the top comment
Makes a whole lot more sense now, I thought it was just supposed to be a "free" game version of the console. No wonder why most of the games sucked.

And it worked, to an extent..
Reminds me of a video from The Onion, saying Dominos are putting literal garbage on pizzas, because people are just buying it anyways

Sounds like a horrible idea. But also, don't must game consoles go up to the television? We aren't moving away.
My friend had something similar he was gonna get the ouya but ended up with a 360 and a copy of halo 3
The sad thing about PS2 is moving parts, and the fact it's even more unlikely you'll find a PS3 that is backwards compatible as the earlier models were more prone to failure. But many of the better titles are available on PSN at least, and may be even cheaper that way.
Good game never wear out
