I never thought of seriously painting wood furniture until I saw it done right on your videos. We had a couple of the Ikea 8' floating shelves that I was ready to throw away because we had changed the flooring, wall color, woodwork and decor in the room they are in. Basically, the wood just didn't look right with all the new stuff. I saw the video where you painted some furniture a soft dark color and I was so impressed I tried painting the shelves in a lighter coffee-color matte finish. They look awesome. We kept them right where they were at and instead of hanging some of my better photographs on the wall we set them on the "new" shelves. Now the room has a whole different positive modern vibe to it. Thanks for the great videos and good luck with the move.

I so enjoy watching spray painting as it’s a dance, my brother has done things like building furniture and has spray painted his 1938 Aruban. Watching him paint was like watching a dance, he told me he used to go dancing and this helped learn to spray paint.

Dowels are so much better than those sunken angle screws you see so much on UA-cam furniture channels today. Even with new legs set still looks country, maybe it's the white paint. But your work is awesome, love to watch

We used to have a 1950's maple bedroom set that was my husband's growing up. Eventually we got a much better bedroom set & gave it to our next door neighbor. When I saw her out in the yard painting it pink for her little girl's room my heart sank. However, just like your set , it looked quite nice when finished and pretty new hardware on. She had actually ombred it from blush down to little girl medium pink. Best of all - her daughter loved it. When the child turned into a teen she wanted her room to be all black & white so it got sanded & painted again - this time black. Her Mom said someday I'll have to strip all that paint off and redo it for a grandchild. That maple furniture takes a licking and keeps on ticking for sure.

It was a relief hearing someone on youtube give actual good advice on finishes. Water-based products can be great for some things but solvent-based finishes are just better in general for durability and adhesion. Using water-based if the customer requests it and understands the downsides or if it's for personal use is totally fine but when you're producing products for customers one of the worst things is having to go back to a customer and pick up a piece that the finish failed on and restart the entire process.

A real shame to put that junk on finely made furniture made with integrity. On the bright side: it is so easy to get it off and often protects the wood from damage.

I also follow Thomas Johnson. After everything is dry, and he finds there are nicks from shopdust in the finish, he takes a piece of brown paperbag. Makes a 3 double piece of it, and with a flat hand gives the furniture a final polish with it. It knocks down those nicks from the shopdust, but leaves the finish intact. I always love your videos, and how you take us in the close ups! 🌈

Watching you spray paint is like watching a great artist painting. So graceful and deliberate on the strokes of the sprayer. A little trick my Father taught me for sanding flat work is to cut a hardwood block 2 1/4 of an inch wide by 5 1/2 inches long. Then cut a full sheet of 9 x 11 sandpaper in half and fold around the block. It helps me to keep the stock really flat. I always had a problem of gouging the wood with to much pressure with my fingers. Lol Cheers!!
