I'm taking my EU, and going home. I don't even feel the need to justify my sentiments anymore. And it's crazy because I was in favor of the departure from the old canon. Now thank God I have something left to enjoy after they've destroyed Luke's reputation, and broken the force.

disney does not even respect their own new canon. If you read Phasma they treated her like trash when she was built up to be a possible big bad. Rian admitted he has not read a single new or old canon book too, not surprising as this movie was more the worst elements of marvel then a star wars movie.

I'm with you, this whole trilogy has felt so 'meh' for me. "Meh" isn't Star Wars, SW should always illicit some kind of repsonse and this New Canon completely fails in that regard. Love it or hate it the Old EU made you feel something while also threading a tapestry of lore leaps and bounds greater than this New canon crap.

The UA-camr Anti Trekker made a very important observation, namely that they flipped how the force works.
Originally the Light side path required tremendous time of dedication, practice and discipline while the dark side was the easy and quick path, giving into your emotions and turn yourself into a whirlwind of volatile aggression. In TLJ it was flipped around Kylo is the one who struggles and Rey achieves her powers easily and the movie just acts like it's fine.
Also can we stop an digest the bathroom eyesed cringe romance between Kylo and Rey?He tried to mind rape her and she saw the guy killing his OWN FATHER in front of her eyes, and then two days later she's about to slide on her own juices from doing intergalactic dating cam with him.
To be angry is to be human, I guess.

It might actually be a part of a larger narrative...that's the problem with making absolute judgments about a trilogy not yet over....
She may be using the dark side...when she meditates with Luke he freaks out because she doesn't even attempt to resist the dark side...
This may be a commentary on Kylos struggle being bred from him wanting to be a darksider but struggling because of his inner light VS Rey wanting to be a lightsider and finding it easy because she unknowingly is indulging in the darkside....
But we don't know what the next movie offers...
The next movie may make it clear that Kylo is no longer struggling now that he is fully immersed in the darkside...and perhaps Rey begins to understand that she uses the darkside with ease and her rejection of it is now cutting her raw power...
We don't know....because we haven't seen the future...
All these theories...and assumptions....and final judgements...are really skewing people's expectations about this franchise nowadays....

    • @eidolon9625
      @eidolon9625 6 років тому +2

But these aern't theories and assumptions, they are simply using the information that was presented to us without worrying about what may be revealed in the future. For all we know, going off this story, it was in fact Finn who was the true leader of the Empire and he managed to trick everyone, considering the fact that he knows every important mcguffin ever.
Also thats exactly what people said about TFA when I said "Why is Rey so powerful already" the response was wait until the next movie, it'll tell you how she was trained from birth or some shit and I just left such people to wallow in their own decadence.

A guy in one of my classes argued that this film and TCW are "objectively good" and that I am emotionally biased due to my love for the original EU. While I do love the EU, my family pressured me to give these movies a chance, and I think that, even if I'd never been as into the EU as I proudly am, I'd still hate the new Disney canon, these movies included. Neutering Luke, giving us a Mary Sue protagonist, laughably stupid decisions, good ideas in-universe being depicted as bad because the person behind it is a guy and the person he's suggesting it to is a woman, a rehashed plot, etc. Fuck Disney Wars, and fuck Kathleen Kennedy.

The fact that LF is trying to place the blame on GL should be evident that the backlash has gotten to them. Which is pathetic. Wasn’t this supposed to be planned out? The story group ushering a new storyline. Yeah, I liked TLJ but as a sequel it sucks. If there is ONE thing I’m thankful for it is that this movie inspired me to write. Tell my own stories and say no to postmodernism and showcase that good people still exist that a classic good vs evil story can prevail. Just look at avatar the last air bender.

I do see your points. The old EU wasn't perfect, but I still think its better than the new stuff. You're right, Luke's Jedi Praxeum did get destroyed by the Vong if I remember correctly. But the main difference Luke's Jedi weren't completely destroyed in that attack and the Jedi still flourished.

    • @Kristian.B.Kristiansen

It is a brave statement, and I respect your opinion, but I think you overlook the many dark side force users, that Lukes NJO fights, that did not originate as his jedi.
Raynar Thul was brainwashed by insects, and did not really fall, and the darksider villan in the swarm wars was Lomi Plo, a sith, and darksider. And you mention Jacen, but he is the template for Kylo Ren, so that is the same in both versions. All begins are hard, and yes some (to many) of lukes students fell, but many was redeemed, since Lukes is a big believer in redemption.
I agree that Luke became OP, but I love it! Yes he himself was (almost) never in real mortal danger, but it took more the 20-35 year for him to get that strong, and realize the “Chosen One” potential his father had. And everything he loves is often close to being destroyed. The Vong could not kill him, but they came super close to destroying the hold galaxy, and killed many of his friends and students including Chewbacca and his nephew Anakin Solo. Luke loses his beloved wife, and that makes him “harder” colder, more determent and wiling to send his only son and the last of his sister’s children on suicide missions, as he deems it best for the orders future. That is character-development and conflict. And even Grandmaster Luke is very close to being killed by abeloth, even after he uses his full “super saiyan” powers. He is helpless to save himself and his son. Yes only Star Wars-Cthulhu can push him that far single handedly, but that is not invincibility.

Good video, I think Rian Johnson should've worked with JJ Abrams on the movie, to give meaning to Rey & Snoke. I think the Rey & Luke training should've been something like the training scene in Batman Begins. At least it was too similar to Empire like how TFA was too similar to A New Hope. They tried to in a different direction and let Rian Johnson do whatever he wanted and he sprinkles in a few similarities like Rey training with Luke is Luke training with Yoda, battle of Crait is just like the battle of hoth, and the throne room scene is trying to be a call back to the one in Episode 6 and overall it wasn't a rehash like its predecessor, even though every Star Wars has similarities to others with George Lucas's quote it's like poetry it Rhymes but TFA is one movie in the franchise that is too similar A New Hope. they should've had used Luke better in this movie and Snoke & Phasma were wasted characters. Another thing to add is good analogy on the Rey & Kylo scene when he wants her to join him, with Rey representing the older fans & Kylo representing the Story group formed by KK and the Disney canon fans.

Rey might not be a virgin conception like Anakin (then again, she might be) but she is an immaculate conception. She's divinely preserved from error. Even in the one instance where she might be genuinely tempted to do wrong - when she's beaten Kylo in TFA and might have killed him in anger - deus ex machina steps in to separate them so Rey has no possibility of making the wrong choice there. Her character is never given the chance to be a true Jedi; her success is meaningless because it's assured. That's really, really disappointing to me.

    • @williamatchison5230

      Meh... she does fail...a lot...
Has to have Finn pull her away from tie fighter blasts near the beginning of force awakens, that would have otherwise killed her...
Fails to convince Luke to join the resistance....Yoda has to do that...
Fails to resist the darkside nexus on the planet Luke is staying on...
Is helpless before Snoke....Kylo kills him and saves her....then she fails to turn him to the light...
Things work out...she's able to make a lot of successful attempts at things...other times she fails to varying degrees....
Sometimes she saves the day only as a result of others actions....like being able to help the resistance escape with the force as a result of Luke stalling the First Order and Poe realizing that there is a way out.....
We also have no idea even this supposed "flawless streak" was supposed to contrast what happens to her in the 3rd and final upcoming instalment....maybe she learns that her successes were from unknowingly indulging in the darkside....and struggles to do many things once she outright rejects it....
      We don't know...
It's makes things problematic when people lose their mind about things in the small picture that may have significance to the wider big picture of the plot....

      @williamatchison5230 6 років тому

First of all, I have no idea why you would insult me over this....I don’t even know you.
Second of all, my comments were in regards to ONE issue, encompassing TWO movies--namely Rey being flawless...in which I state she isn’t entirely flawless, but if She is flawless enough to be considered flawless, we have no idea if it is to set up her indulgences in the darkside (which are heavily hinted in The Last Jedi) specifically in response to a person saying she is “divinely preserved from error”...
Sending me three hours of an entire arbitrary critique by one man of a SINGLE flawed science fiction movie that has two instalments already-- with the expectation that I will “make the time” is a bit ridiculous.
I’m not here stating the Movie was a masterpiece, so this guys critique of an entire movie will largely be a non-issue.
Not only would it be opinion vs opinion anyway....but you could have just sent me a few time stamps of him actually talking about Rey’s flawlessness, or how this flawlessness is contradictive to the plot, or inconsistent with the established mechanics of the dark-side or other universal mechanics....etc....
But that would take quite a bit of time....but if that’s the case I suggest you *make* time.
      Lol.
      have a good day man.

      @charlietownsend2826 6 років тому +1

Red Eyed Monster | Alright. Let us walk through your points one by one and discuss them :
"Has to have Finn pull her away from tie fighter blasts near the beginning of force awakens, that would have otherwise killed her..." She clearly has the situation under control and even yells at Finn for taking the initiative and assuming he had to save her. Also this is hardly a "failure" of any significance.
"Fails to convince Luke to join the resistance....Yoda has to do that..." And this is apparently what makes her character flawed ? Hardly. She is right in her attempts to try and convince him, she admonishes him about letting Kylo Ren down before leaving him in the mud, ashamed. Her not convincing him is through no fault of her own and is in fact due to him being stubborn. This is no substantial failure for Rey that established a flaw in her character and gives her room for growth.
"Fails to resist the darkside nexus on the planet Luke is staying on..." And suffers absolutely no consequences for it. At no point does Rey ever feel like she's slipping to the dark side. Heck, she enters the cave, is surrounded by the dark side, asks for her parents and finds nothing. Then she comes back completely fine and disappointed. She comes back disappointed. By the dark side, temptation itself. Rey has emerged victorious without being tempted. She effectively nailed the Dagobah cave on her first try. Because the dark side had no flaw to exploit in her.
"Is helpless before Snoke....Kylo kills him and saves her...." Ok, she fails to defeat Supreme leader Snoke. Had to stop somewhere.
"then she fails to turn him to the light..." This seems hardly appropriate but fine, Rey's skill at convincing people is apparently subpar.
"Things work out..." All the time.
"she's able to make a lot of successful attempts at things..." Oh yes, a whole lot. An absurd lot.
"other times she fails to varying degrees...." Hardly. Her very few failures are minor and offer no room for growth in her character. Rey simply did not do something whether it's turn Kylo Ren or defeat Snoke, nothing is flawed about her in any of this. Admittedly the second one holds more weight. As much weight as a padawan failing to strike down the emperor but still.
"Sometimes she saves the day only as a result of others actions....like being able to help the resistance escape with the force as a result of Luke stalling the First Order and Poe realizing that there is a way out....." The scene never even attempts to frame this as Rey succeeding in the nick of time or even hint at the possibility that she would have failed otherwise. The intersecting of different plotlines and plot points line up that way but I can assure you the intent wasn't there.
Rey arrives at a briskly pace in front of the rocks. Then practically sighs before lifting them with an almost bored expression on her face.
"We also have no idea even this supposed "flawless streak" was supposed to contrast what happens to her in the 3rd and final upcoming instalment...." We actually do. We know perfectly well that this trilogy is being patched together and The Last Jedi in particular by cutting all of the set-ups from the force awakens and expending on nothing has effectively made it clear that Rian Johnson wrote this movie without any outline given to him for the trilogy and without any thought for the sequel.
"maybe she learns that her successes were from unknowingly indulging in the darkside....and struggles to do many things once she outright rejects it...." I won't critique this idea here. I'll just say that this could be introduced by JJ in the third film to retroactively justify her actions in the first two. That doesn't excuse those first two movies for presenting an uncompelling character.
"We don't know..." We can make a pretty educated guess and frankly we shouldn't care.
"It's makes things problematic when people lose their mind about things in the small picture that may have significance to the wider big picture of the plot...." What makes things problematic is when that big picture of the plot doesn't exist. What's problematic is that Rey's character is poorly written, that tension is being run down to the ground because we know she is going to succeed for two thirds of that plot in the hopes that something might come out of this.

+Jackson Smith The best analogy I've heard is if Luke saw Kenobi die on the Death Star, and at that point in the story, Luke Force-grabbed Kenobi's lightsaber, beat Vader, and could've killed him there and then except a blast door came down between them so Luke left on the Falcon. In ESB Luke wastes time with Yoda, who teaches him nothing and refuses to help. Luke literally accomplishes nothing in ESB. He's exactly the same character at the end of the movie as at the beginning. So why would we be interested in seeing what he does in ROTJ ?

    • @charlietownsend2826
      @charlietownsend2826 6 років тому

LightwithintheShadow | I think you're failing to grasp that the person here is using an analogy ( Or at least I hope they are ). What is implied before that sentence you quoted is "How stupid would it have been if they pulled the same crap in ESB as they did in TLJ ? It would be like..".
Then again having reading again maybe not, but that would be ridiculous so I'm just left assuming.
It is a pretty savage response though so points for that.

And TCW Grievous had his fair share of intimidating moments, (i.e. The attack on Dathomir, and the slaughter of the Nightsisters). Hux is basically the butt-monkey of this trilogy, since his entire role is underwhelming in terms of being a competent villain, a stark contrast to the portrayals of both Vader, Tarkin, and every other Imperial officer in the OT.

If Rey were a reincarnation of "The Daughter" and Kylo Ren a reincarnation of "The Son," that would have been pretty interesting. They could have used this trilogy to dive deeper into The Force. Instead, we're getting a shitty retread of the Galactic Civil War, with a much less threatening empire.

They already used Saw Gurrera even though he came from TCW. I don't think it would be hard to explain to the audience that Rey is the reincarnation of a force god.
Snoke? He could have been a powerful darksider, trying to re-create The Son as the ultimate apprentice, only for it to backfire. Not dissimilar to what happened to Plaguis.

No offence Jensaarai1, but anyone trying to justify Holdo's actions as "following military protocol" is completely full of it. Military protocol is to give your subordinates as much info as you can. Otherwise how can they be expected to do their jobs? What happens if the commanding officer is KIA and no one knows what they were supposed to be doing? Poe's mutiny was completely justified since his responsibility is to the crew and the commanding officer was jeopardising said crew. Plus "being a ****** to a subordinate" is also against protocol and completely unprofessional.

  • @binturongjustice

Probably the biggest issue I had was when force ghost Yoda showed up and nuked Luke's little tree library. You have the sacred Jedi texts, a thinly veiled nod to all the legends novels. Luke walks up with a flare to torch them (why now? when you've been on this island for decades), Yoda shows up in a moment of fanservice that honestly at the time gave me some hope. after all, two of the wisest and most powerful force users ever, surely they could offer some deep meaningful insi-Nope. Instead Yoda casts thunderbolt, sending the tree up in an inferno even though Luke had decided against it.
"Read them you did? page turners they were not."
I expected Yoda to look directly to camera and hold on that line. it just felt like a needless middle finger to legends, spurred by the new trilogy's whole "kill the past" symbolism and overall mindset, basically shouting "hey forget all that old stuff, THIS is star wars now!"
But even then this gets subverted because there's a shot towards the end of the books in a drawer on the Falcon. But again that feels hollow because just like every other subversion in the movie, they walk it back and remove the weight and implications.
Basically, if you're gonna shit on something fans love;1) Don't.2) If you do, at least go all the way with it. 3) See point 1.

The Sequels almost don't even feel like Star Wars, there are next to none of the Star Wars aliens around, just some old faces, the rest are just uninteresting gray aliens you could have easily put into any other scifi movie.

About that throne room scene. Not killing your enemy when you have the chance is the biggest villainous blunder any villain can make. Above all, this movie could have been good if it focused itself on two things, Luke and Rey training, and the Resistance being on the move from the First Order.

      Who knows....
The monologue thing is hilarious sometimes in movies....it's often quite ridiculous.....
In this case he monologues until he is seemingly getting what he wants......namely KYLO to deliver the killing blow to Rey....
Making the monologue still a cliche....slightly more justified than other occurrences....

I noticed an interesting dichotomy between Palpatine & Vader and Snoke & Ren. Palpatine was a politician; he knew what to say and when to say it. Along with chiding Vader for his failures, he also praises him for his successes. Basically, Palpatine knows how to treat people. Snoke is not the same way. From what little we've seen, he's derogatory, cruel, and (given his ragdolling of Hux, and his lightning striking of Ren, even if that was in self-defense) we can even assume he's abusive. When Vader turned on Palpatine in Return of the Jedi, it felt like it only happened because Luke was successful in turning Anakin. When Ren turned on Snoke, it felt like it was inevitable.

8:10 Well to be fair, this point can be applied to the prequels too. It just so happens that Tatooine is near Naboo in TPM, or how Geonosis is only a parsec away from Tatooine from AotC, or even Empire where Bespin, a planet where Han Solo's old acquaintance just so happens to be administrator, is so close to the asteroid field. I agree it is still far fetched though.

    • @Reti4
      @Reti4  6 років тому +3

Reti4 - These examples are different. Tatooine wasn't the one place in the galaxy they could find repairs or replacement for their hyper-drive. There wasn't as much of a time constraint with the Tatooine to Geonosis comparison. And as for the asteroid field to Bespin, that just happened to be one of many possible locations nearby that Han cycled through on the nav-computer. The fact that we got a scene where they make that choice just emphasises the difference in priorities between the Original and Sequel trilogies. In the Sequels a moment where you see Han flicking through different planet options would be considered a waste of time.

Last comment, I promise (because I so badly want to talk about this movie XD). I'm very mixed on this movie. Not mixed but leaning towards positive, or mixed but leaning towards negative. Just mixed. With The Force Awakens, for every pro I gave the movie, there was three cons. With Rogue One, I had one con for about every two pros. With this one, it was pretty even for me. For every pro, I had a con.
I suppose my biggest problem was in the execution. If you look at this story, there is a lot of good, strong ideas. But when those ideas get executed, they either start off strong and get bad/lazy as they go on (such a Rey's meditation and the Dark Side cave). They were just half-assed (Leia's force-sensitivity). Or they were poorly executed from the beginning (like I like the idea of a bitter, jaded, traumatized Luke who has to let go of and learn from his mistakes, but the story they give is not strong enough reasoning to cause that character development).
    Couple more notes I had:
*It feels like they were trying "Boba Fett" Phasma (for lack of a better term). Before Empire, Boba's introduction was in the Holiday Special. In Empire and Jedi, he was such a non-character (he stood in the background, said, and did nothing). I don't know what EU material was being produced between Empire and Jedi, but this makes me wonder what made him work in the first place.
*The "revelation" about Rey's parents (and I use "revelation" very loosely because it doesn't feel like one; because Snoke and Ren are the ones feeding her this, it feels like a tactic. By saying her parents were nobodies, it feels like they're trying to embarrass/humiliate her, and break her spirit). I get what Johnson was trying to do, but again poor execution. Look at the heroes of the first two trilogies. In the prequels (without further explanation from Legends), Anakin was the result of a virgin birth (and also shows George Lucas' lack of subtlety when it comes to allegory). In the originals, Luke was the son a prodigy, a respected war hero, and a revered and feared villain. Rey's parents were...no one. The message that anyone-- not just the walking, living breathing miracle, or the product of a spectacular lineage-- can be a hero. But, as I said, not executed the best.

What you said about the actors is spot on. Yes I prefer the EU as my canon and this movie killed Luke in every way possible, but I have nothing against the actors personally. They do a great job, but what they have to do and say is what’s frustrating. Kelly Marie Tran I’m sure is a very nice lady and is very talented in what she does; I don’t hate her on a personal level at all, but how this movie makes her character behave is what makes me dislike Rose immensely.

Jensaarai what is your thoughts on Gundam? People joke it is Japan's Star Wars (mostly because there are laser swords and psychic powers plus the space combat) but it is different enough with giant badass robots! If you want a place to start I say watch the War in the Pocket ova, 8th MS Team ova, and Stardust Memory, other good ones to check out is the abridged trilogy movies from the early 80s, and the Origin movies. After those check out the Advance of Zeta Flag of the Titans manga and the Zeta Gundam series.

So I've been considering my dislike of this film since it came out, and never once have I seen anyone really address the fact that any of the Resistance leaders should've been evacuated using those cloaked transports long before the last act of the film when they did it for everyone. Even sending one or two away as a kind of "designated survivor" type deal. But no, they're all on the bridge of the Raddus and get sucked out into space...

And to people about Rey: I liked her in Force awakens and her abilities were believable: unlike Luke who worked on a farm and has next to no training, Rey is a survivalist and had at least some training/experience in combat before the film. And when she gets the force, she only really uses it to mind trick a random flunky and to focus herself against a half dead force warrior who already kicked a separate characters ass. And she still barely won. I liked it, I bought it, I’ll defend it till I die. Last Jedi and Rose of Skywalker? Ugh. They make her a five god with no practice. Except for the part we’re she lifts the giant rocks nothing she did should’ve been within her abilities. She stalemated a formally trained force prodigy? She mastered the lightsaber with no training ? Luke barely survived in A new hope and had one real feat of using the force, in empire strikes back he’s had three years of training with the rebels and practicing by himself combined with live combat, THEN received training from Yoda( yes we don’t know how long: a week? A month? A year? We don’t know) and put up a decent fight with a holding back Vader who cut off his hand after Luke pissed him off enough to go full throttle. Then a year later in practice ( don’t remember if he trained more with Yoda or if the next time he saw him was his death bed.) she dueled Vader and beat him after getting in his head for hours trying to get his fad to admit he loved him( which Vader did.) Luke’s victory was a dark horse victory and by the skin of his teeth with some skill, a lot of luck, and a lot of hard work. The new trilogy takes place over a single year and Rey has maybe a year of training and beats Sidious.( Luke couldn’t beat sidious for another 12 years!) they both had help and I grant you she had the force ghosts of the fallen Jedi helping her( one rant at a time.) but it just didn’t work for me. A basic and at times bland as force awakens was it had potential and it set a solid foundation that rian Johnson set on fire and then left Abrams to try to clean up.( he failed but after the mess Johnson left, succees was impossible. I’m honestly amazed it wasn’t worse. Still made they brought Sidious back though. The one silver lining of the canon legends crap was that Sidious surviving Retirn of the Jedi didn’t happen, the only good thing about that story line was Luke fighting and training with Sidious . Now it happened and he doesn’t duel look. So double suck!)

    1) I think Disney really ruined Luke's character. Luke showed nothing but perseverance and determination during everything we have seen until this movie. He was a "true" Jedi refusing to fight to his father and Emperor and by doing so turning his father back to light. This is the essence of him. He would never for a second even think to kill his nephew. Simply NO WAY.
    2) Lets assume for some reason Luke is done with "Jedi". I actually found this interesting. What I cannot understand is him giving up the "force". Force is the nature, it is what makes "you" and the whole universe. Luke was trying to understand more of the philosophy/the universe not turn his back to it.
    3) I think writers for this movie was not able think something "clever" to bring back Luke from the "broken" self. What made him start to come back was the Princess Leia's message to Obiwan from R2. It was a simple trick which can affect the audience at that moment but an extremely weak one when you look at the big picture. It felt like R2 was wiser than Luke!!! Puked there. If you have to go with this idea, Luke's comeback should be when his dearest friend Han died. This way Han's dead would have meant something too. HUGE mistake.
    4) Luke died alone for almost nothing. It broke my heart. Can you believe this is the end for Luke. I am extremely sad about this :( Side note, battle meditation was very common in extended universe. It was awesome to watch Luke doing it. In extended universe, I do not remember anyone dying because of exhaustion like Luke did. Also I fail to see what his death brought to story.
    5) Whole Boyega story to Las Vegas was terrible. For the first time I got bored during a Star Wars movie.. I like the fact that some weapon sellers designed both First order tie fighters and x-wings though. That was nice.
    6) Po is a HUUUUGE failure, reason for many deaths and still chosen as a leader??? WTF?
    7) For a jedi or sith training is everything. IF Rey has no prior training, it is a travesty that she is a master level light saber user ! puke to that too.
    8) Missed opportunity: If Rey joined Kylo after he killed Snook and they were challenged by Luke in next movie that would have been PERFECTION! Alas morons @ Lucas/Disney missed it.
    Somethings I liked,
Rey and Kylo fighting together was great. I love the scene where Rey throw the light saber which was caught by Kylo and instantly turned on to kill the guard by an "eye-shut". hahahaha that was satisfying.

Please... here me! What if this has been the greatest setup in all of history? What if JJ and Ryan Johnson both new that they had to go big or go home in order to live up to the original trilogy's "I am your father"? There are ways they could undo what they have done in a spectacular way. For instance, they could turn Luke OP and/or create alternate timelines/realities. This type of sci-fi writing is right up their alleys. They could have a badass origin story for Rey, link her back to the Skywalkers, or Kenobi (Setting up another stand-alone Starwars movie). "Yo! Disney! I just made you 7 billion dollars!" The stupid is strong with this corporation.

Heard Brian without the B is getting his own trilogy as well - totally separate from the Skywalker storyline. So he's going to get his own platform to do star wars his way. WHICH MEANS he didn't have to subvert the entire Skywalker storyline in Ep 8. Why Bri-Bri...you get to do both now anyways..you didn't have CRTL + ALT + SUBVERT

Today was Shrimp Fettucini with Pesto sauce paired with a hot cup of English Breakfast Black Tea with some honey. Why? Because when Jensarrai1 does one of these, its like his TCW rants. An experience that we greatly anticipate and must be savored. I expected a straight up rant from Jensarrai1 but I didn't get it. I guess the nerd rage ranter has finally mellowed out compared to the old days. But nearly every one of your critiques was completely on point. This Yoda wasn't that bad though. At least I think it was better than CGI Yoda (though that isn't much). Basically my thoughts on TLJ is this, it had so much potential but never truly went through on any of the potential. Its kind of like Anakin Skywalker (roll with me on this). It had the potential to be one of the best Star Wars films but it was never fully developed due to the rampant stupidity that went into development. While I thought TPM was kind of stupid in the prequel trilogy (my preferred order is AOTC, Micro, then ROTS), at least it followed through on setting up its narrative and character arcs. TLJ? No (except for Po's arc. liked that a lot). But like TPM, it forced comedy when it clearly wasn't needed. Also, TJL killed off Ackbar in a non-memorable or memeable way. The music was on point (especially Binary Sunset), loved the production, and fantastic performances though. I don't know where to rank TLJ buts its not TPM or AOTC bad. Anyway, loved this a lot and I did enjoy this one man discussion format.

Am I the only one who kind of likes The Force Awakens better. As derivative as it was it still didn't completely destroy or tarnish anything in the lore. The Force Awakens didn't advance the universe or change anything while this movie shattered and destroyed so much. Also at least TFA had Han Solo acting like Han Solo before he kicked the bucket. In this movie Luke is just moping around like a sad hermit nearly killing his nephew in his sleep because he sensed some vague "darkness". Give me a break. We also have the plot threads that were dropped from the last movie like
    1) Kylo Ren completing his training
    2) Snoke in his entirety
    3) Luke creates a map to find him to only tell Rey that he came to the island to die
    4) Everything with Rey's parentage being hinted
    5) The Knights of Ren, where are they?
The tone for as gleeful and light hearted as it was in TFA it was at least consistent. This movie is constantly jolting back and forth with out of place humor. The problems just keep adding up.
    1) Chase seen made no sense
    2) Canto Bight was irrelevant
    3) Luke's character was destroyed
    4) Rey is still a Mary Sue
    5) Leia flying through space
    6) Snoke's Death - Just wrong
    7) Phasma's Death - Who cares
    8) Luke's Death - Why couldn't he just be there? Or better yet not died?
    9) Ackbar's Death - We'll miss you man...
    10) Hux just being a worthless sack of comic relief
    Etc.
It just keeps going on. What a travesty of a film. Honestly for me it's the worst of the saga. But that's debatable.

I pretty much agree with all the council forcecast members on the strengths and weaknesses of this movie.
Personally the character assassination of luke skywalker is the most offensive and unforgivable thing about TLJ; making it worse than TFA for myself. I really don't know if and how george lucas agreed with this. It heavily undermines the OT and even entire saga.
Despite everything I don't want to come across like I foam at mouth hate these films. As standalone movies or entertainment they're good.

    • @lapplandkun9273

slap the EU on, removing the sequel trilogy and just adjust the EU to fit the current canon. Since TFU contradicts with Rebels, either redo the entire rebels series entirely to fit with TFU or just adjust major events so both can coexist. Rebels is disliked and criticized, but at least it didn't destroy lore and no matter how you slice it, it still was better than the entire sequel trilogy and it was the next best star wars media piece that we got from Disney, aside from jedi fallen order. Rogue one might also have to be adjusted, because I have not played the TFU game nor I know much of the timeline, though Im sure it heavily contradicts rogue one.
Jedi fallen order needs no adjustments. It was a good piece of media, though Im sure fans agree that it was a poor man's TFU but still good. Cal kestis is a good character.
