Granny square patterns are so much fun and have to be one of the easiest patterns to use when you want to create a big blanket fast. I’ve been crocheting for 40 years and I turn to the Granny Square pattern often. You can’t go wrong. And changing colors really does make the blanket look like you’ve spent even more time on it than you have. 😊 Just always tie in those loose stands well so it doesn’t come undone the first time someone washes it. 😊 … NICE job on the tutorial by the way. Not everyone can understand patterns and tutorials are so helpful.
I couldn’t agree more! There are so many colors you can put together to make a bunch of different, beautiful granny square blankets. Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed 🧶
The best granny square tutorial on UA-cam by far!
Thank you! 🥰
I've been watching different videos for this blanket to see if there's one in particular I want to do, and the amount of different ways people hold their yarn is insane! I think it's really cool that we're all doing the same thing but in different ways
It is very interesting to see how everyone holds their hooks or yarn! 😊🧶
I can't wait to get the yarn so I can start mine. I hope it goes as well as yours did. Thanks so much.
I am gonna try to make a blanket soon for my cousins baby shower in 3 months and I think she will love it and it will be my first gifted crochet blanket ever 💜💜💜
That sounds like a wonderful idea!
Amanda, I followed this tutorial and was able to present it as a receiving blanket. I used your same colors and was able to then crochet a pram for the center. It looks beautiful and I thank you for teaching me. Wonderful instruction.
Annie💝
You’re very welcome! 😊
Thank you so much! I took a break from crocheting and completely had a 'brain freeze' on how to make a granny square. So glad I came across your video. Very clear instructions!!😊
You’re very welcome! Glad you found this video helpful 😊
You have a very pleasant calm and soothing teaching voice. Thank for sharing your talents with your students.
Thank you so much! I appreciate it 😊🧶
Thank you so much for this lovely tutorial. I finished my first blanket and did the continuous rounds and, as you said, it was kind of warped and the sides were not looking too good either, but still nice. I started on the second one now, with the method you are showing in this tutorial, and OMG what a difference.
You are so welcome! Glad you found this helpful 😊
Thank you for a very clear, easy to follow tutorial Jo x

@@AmandaCrochets Thank you
Beautiful blanket, I see making a few for the senior place I live at. Thank you
Thank you! What a wonderful idea!
When I saw the colors of this blanket in the thumbnail I knew instantly that it was Caron Simply Soft yarn lol. I’ve used that yarn and those colors for years. Maybe I’m weird…🤣
Haha I’m the same way!
I have a question, Is there anyway to turn this granny square blanket into a rectangle? Oh yes and by the way I really appreciate this tutorial you have shown. You have a soft voice and explain the steps very well. Thank you
Yes you can! I don’t have a tutorial for this, but this would will help you make this into a rectangle: ua-cam.com/video/ZeNyQrVwXns/v-deo.htmlsi=SpSLRxhFe8A8yPuZ enjoy!
May I ask How do you finish the end of the blanket, with ruffles?
To make a ruffle border, I found this: www.dreamalittlebigger.com/post/easy-crochet-ruffle-edge.html. Hope it helps!
Just lovely, noncomplicated, colours are nice
Thank you!
25:51 I’m not a fan of the old scrappy looking blankets, but I’m glad I saved this tutorial. I’m making a shrug out of it. Wish me luck!
That sounds like fun! Good luck! 😊🧶
Thank you for the great tutorial!
Glad it was helpful!
Great, simple, very clear. Thank you.

I loved this tutorial. Very easy to follow and I was able to complete my first granny square blanket. I was wondering if you’d be able to do a rectangle granny square blanket?
I’m glad you found this blanket to be easy to follow. I’ll add the rectangle granny square blanket to my list of tutorials. Thanks for the suggestion 😊
Thank you!!
@@christieramseier5925 You're welcome!
Hello dear how many yarn did you use ?and how many gram every yarn pls help❤❤thank you for tutoria l cant wait to make mine ❤❤
Hello, all the information about the yarn used is in the description box below the video 😊
When you get to the end of the round and chain 2, make the slip stitch. Are making the slip stich into the v, front or back loop of the chain? Or does it matter?
I am making the slip stitch into the chain space of each round. I hope that helps!
You are my teacher 👩🏫
Thank you!!
this tutorial was super clear, thanks
You're welcome!
This was an excellent video tutorial!!
Thank you!
I am making this blanket now. I am almost done and it is very large now. I made it Afghan size. I’ve been following the directions exactly until now. I went all the way around and never came to the beginning chain and so I kept going thinking I have to come to the beginning chain at some point. I probably went around two or three times before it occurred to me that I forgot to do the chain three! What do I do now? It looks alright, but how will I ever end it? Do I have to take it out? Is there any way to fix this?
I would try ending just before you get to a corner. Then I would slip stitch a few times to even things out. That should hopefully help a little.
I started with the chain four method and ended up not having enough space on my circle to create all my corners. Im going to try again with the magic circle 😊
I hope the magic circle helps! Sometimes when making the chain 4 you have to move your stitches over a little to fit everything into the circle.
How long would a regular sized blanket for an adult take? Want to make a few blankets for Christmas presents!! :)
I guess it would depend on the size you want to make it and how fast you can crochet. I think it’s a pretty quick blanket to make though. 😊🧶
Hi, I made this in a modified version, 4 large granny squares, each starting with a different color. My question is how do I weave in the “tails” of the different colors I used or do I just cut them off?
To weave in your ends, you will use a tapestry needle to go in between the stitches made. Keep like colors with like colors to hide them even more. I usually go back and forth in between the stitches 3 different times to make sure they're secure. Once you feel they're secure enough, you can cut the remaining tails. Hope that helps! :)
Wow very nice 👍thanks
Thank you!
How many rows please? Great tutorial. Thanks. My blessings to all
I made mine a total of 32 rounds
Thanks
Hi Amanda, thank you so much for this tutorial! I am new to crocheting and would like to ask you if I am doing a single color blanket, (not changing colors) would I still turn the work at every round? Thanks again
You’re welcome! Yes, you will turn your work for a solid color blanket or if you’re changing colors. 😊
@@AmandaCrochets thank you!
Am using red heart yarn. H hook. How many rows more or less. I did 20 mixing white and yellow. Making the edge now. Pkease someone answer me. Thanks your new subscriber great teacher
You can make as many rounds as you want, but I did 32 for my blanket.
Thanks Amanda.
Instead of using off white can l use pink then because l am using dark grey then medium ,then light grey
You can use whatever color you’d like for your blanket 😊
My first time attempting a pattern like this, i can't see how you are crocheting the top of the chain 3. Are you just putting the hook into the loop since there's nothing underneath as you would with a regular stitch?
Hello! For the chain 3, I am working into the top loop of the chain 3. However, if it’s easier for you, you may go into that space in between the chain 3 and the double crochet stitches. Hope that helps!
Hi Amanda very nice .This gives me ideas.Im wondering if you continued rounds this could make a nice winter blanket.
I really like making granny squares.Thank you
Yes you could make this much larger if you’d like! I made a holiday blanket using this stitch and it turned out great 😊
You Rock
@@joanietritschler9862 thanks!
Will be making some of these.
Wonderful!!
Thank you so much! I’m getting it. ❤

You are a great teacher!
I’m making a baby blanket for my great nephew and I’m sure everyone will be impressed. It’s by far the best thing I’ve ever crocheted
@@XenaWarrior-xq9su thank you!
@@XenaWarrior-xq9su that’s amazing! They should be impressed by your skills and your work 😉
Could u use a self striping yarn or am
Ombré?
Yes, you can use whatever yarn you’d like 🧶
Thanks I loved
You're welcome 😊
If my yarn requires the 5.5 hook, is it best to stick with that gauge? Or is it ok to use the 5.25 or the 5.75? If so, which of the two is best?
You can stick with the recommended hook mentioned on the yarn label for this blanket. Otherwise a 5.25 hook would be just fine as well 😊
Thank you.
You're welcome!
Amanda could I chain 4 but not join do 3 ch2 3double etc in the ch4..love this..
I haven’t tried this myself, but you could try it and see how you like it 😊
Beautiful mam I like very much
Thanks mam
You're welcome!
When you slip stitch to close a round, do you go through both loops at the top of the chain or just one of the loops?
Also, thank you for explaining “the turn”. My blankets were Turing out wonky, now I know why. 😊
I go through both loops to close the round. You’re welcome about turning your work. Makes a big difference 😊
Pls answer asap. Do we turn the work every round we finish or just wen we are starting the blanket bc I am confused if we turn until we finish the blanket?
Yes, as I mentioned in the video you will turn your work after every round.
Would it look good if I made it with bulky yarn
Yes, you can try it out and see how you like it :)
Thank-you,I love it..
I'm glad you like it 😊
Hi thanks i want to make for elders at nursing home for xmas presents. Hope i coyld do it . They have likr 100 patients. Many of them.no family visits them . They get sad and could use the company n the security blanket
Of course you can use this pattern to make blankets for seniors. That would be wonderful gifts!
Do you have any tutorials for crocheting men’s shorts?
I’m sorry I don’t have any garments on my channel besides a few baby hats.
Does anyone know how many yards of yarn I would need to make this a king size? I’m new to crochet and don’t know all my stuff yet
I don’t know the exact amount, but I would probably double or triple the amount of yarn, if using the same yarn I’m using in the video. I’d guess anywhere from 2,000 to 2,500 yards. I could be way off as I’ve never made a blanket that big, but hopefully that would give you an estimate. 🧶
Very, very tanks
Thanks for watching!
I am trying orange and green blanket
Awesome!
Dose it still work with fluffy yarn
You can always give it a try to see if you like it 😊
Nice video,
Thanks!
I would love to know if a boarder around it when you are done should be?
You can add a border around this blanket if you’d like, but I didn’t add one. If you did want to add one, you can make a round of single crochets or you can also add another round of shell stitches. That would look nice 😊
@@AmandaCrochets Thanks so much! Finished last night for my grandson. I love how simple your instructions are.
@@bfliptastic7477 You're welcome :)
Can you make this blanket with burnet yarn? It’s the chunky yarn.
Yes of course!
easiest tutorial ever.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank You!❤
You're welcome 😊
At 6:44 when you say "get that other and oull through" i cant fogure out what the other piece is. Sorry, im an absolute beginner and i dont know how you moved your hand to make that one appear
No worries! So what I mean is with the magic loop, at least the way I make it, is you will grab the other strand on your finger. You will have two strands on your finger, you will insert your hook under the first strand and grab the other strand (the strand on the left) with your hook and pull through that first strand on your finger. I hope that makes sense!
@@AmandaCrochets I think so 🤣 I'll give it a go! Thank you very much. Your videos are much easier to follow along with than others I've tried, they are a lovely slow pace and it's shown very clearly
@@stay_curious good luck! I’m glad you enjoy my videos. It means so much to me 😊
Can u show me how to make a simple beautiful scarf
I have a few scarf videos on my channel if you want to check them out. 😊
@@AmandaCrochets ok thank u
How many skeins 6 oz do I need for a 45” blanket 3 colors?
I would say you probably need 3-4 skeins of each color.
Thanks so much
How many rows is the light blue
6 rows each blue color and 2 rows of white in between.
my work seems to have bigger holes than your blanket… why 😢
It could be because you’re using different yarn or hook size than I am. Or it could simply be your tension. You can always go down a hook size if needed.
@@AmandaCrochets thank you!!
Başarılar teşekkür ederim İstanbul 🔍🔎🔍🔎
Thanks!
I made a baby blanket for my daughter but im not sure the best way to tie off the end could somebody help a guy who has no buisness crocheing out lol😂
To finish your blanket, you’ll want to make your last stitch, cut your yarn leaving a long tail, yarn over your hook and pull through. You’ve created a knot. Then you will weave your yarn tail in and out between the stitches (I go in 3 different directions) to really hide your tail. I hope that helps!
What was your edging stitch?
I did not include a border for this blanket. I simply made each round of granny stitches until my desired width. However you can always add a border if you’d like.
❤️
Thanks!
What about a border
I did not add a border for this blanket. However you can add whatever border you’d like 😊
Very petty colors
Thank you!!
Very pretty!! You must watch Blossom Crochet because you turn after each round
