Pioneer Avic-8200NEX buttons and screen problem solution

- Avic-8200NEX or other in the Avic line has a problem that when you press a button it either doesn't work at all or it performs another function entirely. This video is done so that maybe you won't have to send it in. Especially since Pioneer techs don't know anything about this procedure or have never tried it. So before you even pull the stereo........watch.

The radio preset buttons got scrambled and button #6 went blank and would not work at all on my AVIC 7200NEX and none of the preset buttons would learn a new channel. I knew the touch screen hardware was OK because when the "mute" icon popped up over the location of button # 6 it worked fine. And, like Rene a few posts below, the OEM settings are grayed out and not accessible on my unit. But, lucky for me, a simple factory reset fixed this problem for me. I had been shopping for new head units, but no longer. This 7200 doesn't have all the most modern bells and whistles but still works and sounds great. The only thing I really dislike is that Pioneer doesn't make it reasonable to update the maps. I usually use CarPlay/Google maps but it is surprising how often I end up somewhere with no data to resume a route after a stop or whatever. I need the onboard NAV then and other times off the grid when I am not able to plan ahead and get Google off-line maps set up.

Got same problem mine will turn on and let me touch it and use it normally but after about 30 seconds it won’t let me use the buttons, the only button that works is map and mode and it doesn’t let me touch it anymore and I reset the settings and it’s frozen on select language
My obm setting aren't letting me use them they are not lit up like the others

Yes, my oem settings were greyed out. I chose “restore settings” and then clicked “yes” to reset everything. Everything started working correctly again!!!
I have the 4200nex and it's the same problem I bought a new unit it self thinkn that was the problem but it wasn't so imma see if I can find that option
have you ever had your radio stuck on the rear view camera after loading? how do I get back to the main screen?
Thanks for the post and share. I also have a similar issue with my Pioneer. However, mine now has the buttons lit up and screen that says “No Device”. I’m not able to push to activate any functions. The backup camera still works on it whenever I put the car in reverse. Do you know how to get to to the Setting screen from here?
I'd try one of two things. First, hold the reset button for 30 seconds and see what that does. Second, unplug the power from the back for a while (like eating dinner awhile). Only do this if reset doesn't work. Reset is far right of where volume controls are. Use a paper clip or a pen.
Hey Scott I really do wanna thank you for helping me out with my radio I did exactly what you told me in it reset itself but I'm curious do I need a master reset on it maybe because it's still go to the camera bag up settings every time I get in but I reset it the way you told me to
Couldn't hurt to try. The reset button is on the far right and its recessed so you'll need a pen or a paperclip to push it.

Same situation for me as well. However, I can't access the OEM settings as it is grayed out. So I'm stuck with a somewhat useless head unit hah

@@goatedjeff179 I believe u have to ground the parking brake wire for those settings to show up, also place the unit source to OFF, doing those should work for most of these Pioneer units.
My issue is the gps doesn’t seem to work anymore which also puts me in the wrong time zone

what do you do if the maestro is grayed out? I tried resetting and updating firmware. nothing stops it from constantly scanning and not returning to home?
Did you try reflashing the Maestro? Actually, I'd reset the Maestro first. Are the steering wheel controls working at all?
Hello, so my steering controls all work but my volume up physical button, home button and mode button aren’t working. Any ideas

Didnt work for mine doing module reset or head unit reset :( touchscreen works buttons dont except volume down. This happened once before but aomehow corrected itself in a dag or 2 but this time its been over a week. Any idea anyone?
The mine one does not work any button , just the lighting, i have completly dismount and i could see some tracks almost burnt so i think i have to change the wole keyboard pcb.
so my screen is Stuck in reverse camera mode Which would not allow me to see my settings what can I do need of help
There's an X in the upper right corner, if you haven't seen that. Also, long press the map button if the X isn't working.
So in relation to this video l currently have one but nothing works ie when l start the vehicle the screen comes on but the screen dies not respond at all to touch...will l have to unplug the system and hopefully it reboots or any other suggestions
You might not have a choice, but it might be easier to take the negative cable off of your battery and see if that resets it for you. If not you'll have to unplug it. Did it just start or is this ongoing? Are you in a really cold environment?

If it still does it , flip it upside down for a week powered up out the vehicle of corse . Let the juices behind the bottom flow down on the screen . Coffee, cleaner damaged this one I have in front of me ..
