man i just wanna say, im a wildland firefighter, and on those days when the mountains to steep for the saw, or the flames and smoke are taking the wind out of me, your music reminds me why i love my job, and will always continue to fight fire till the day im dead. Music unites us all. I’m a 14 year old cowboy/ranchhand, and I’ve rode and roped in Illinois for 3 years, Wyoming for 2, and now I’m on down to Arkansas with my family until I turn 18. Then, I’ll be back in Wyoming on the desolate plains driving cattle the way it should be. I won’t make a lot of money, barely enough for a living, but I wouldn’t rather have it any other way. I was recommended to listen to Colter by a couple friends who said I sound not unlike him, as I have a quite deep, howling voice, deeper than the average man’s already.

“Oh, bury me not on the lone prairie”
These words came slow and mournfully
From the pallid lips of a youth who lay
In his dying bed at the close of day
“Oh, bury me not...” and his voice failed there
But we took no heed to his dying prayer
In a narrow grave, just six by three
We buried him there on the lone prairie
Oh, bury me not on the lone prairie
Where the owl of night hoots mournfully
And the blizzard beats and the winds blow free
O’re his lonely grave on the lone prairie
And the cowboys, now as they roam the Plains
For to mark the spot where his bones were lain
Fling a handful of roses o’re his grave
With a prayer to God for his soul to save

I found the extended lyrics, which I think makes the story better. I wish he would have sung it instead. Oh well :)
      .
O bury me not on the lone prairie
These words came low and mournfully
From the cold pale lips of a youth who lay
On his dying bed at the close of day
He’d wasted time til upon his brow
The shadowed clouds were gatherin’ now
He thought of his home and his friends so nigh
Oh the cowboys gathered to see him die
I fancy I’ll listen to the well known word
Of the free wild wind and the song of birds
He thought of his home and the cottonwood there
And the songs her learned in his childhood hour
I often thought I’d be laid when I die
In the old churchyard by the green hillside
By the side of my father let my grave be
O bury me not on the lone prairie
O bury me not on the lone prairie
Where the wild coyotes may howl over me
Where the buffalo roams and the winds blow free
O bury me not on the lone prairie
I want to be laid where mothers prayers
And sisters tears will mingle there
Where friends will come and weep over me
O bury me not on the lone prairie
O bury me not and his voice fell there
We heeded not his dying prayer
In a narrow grave just six by three
We buried him there on the lone prairie
We buried him there on the lone prairie
Where the buzzards fly and the wind blows free
Where rattlesnakes rattle and the tumbleweeds
Blow across his grave on the lone prairie

His voice brings me back to old westerns from the 60's and 70's, a time I never lived in. You can say that guys like Cody Jinks, Cody Johnson, Tyler Childers, Chris Stapleton, Midland, and Jason Isbell are all keeping traditional country tunes alive. But Colter's sound goes back even further than theirs. He sings like an old cowpoke with a dip in. No other country singer out there has the western feel and sound that Colter does!

Saying this as a 17 kid from Ontario. While I probably won't work a farm or ranch in my life, I love being out in the country. Not like some typical bs City slicker shit, but I genuinely love the quiet, peaceful nature of it. While it'll probably be decades before I can buy a property to get away from most of the hustle and bustle of the city, Colters music gives me that same feeling I get out in the country. For that, Im grateful for discovering his music a couple years back. 🇨🇦

My favorite thing about this guy are all the flaws in his performances. They're aren't necessarily "flaws" but I don't know what else
to call them. Either way, they are the signs of an absolutely truthful performance. There ain't a thing about Colter Wall's music that you could call fake. I don't know of many artists today that can say the same and I for damn sure don't know of many other artists of his age that can deliver such a performance w just a mic and an Acoustic Guitar.
    Dude is a legend.

Back in the 90s when, I got divorce at age 19 and at that age I had 3 children and on my own. A Mexican/American young woman with 3 children raising them on my own, I heard my first song of country music, I still can remember that song and fell in love with it.
