haha that last add! Legendary :p
Sometime around 1957, I saw my first performer live. His name was Johnny Cash. I just stood by the stage and watched Johnny and his Tennessee Three (including Luther!). I recently read an article about Colter Wall in the New Yorker magazine. I found him online and can’t stop listening to him. I think that he is unique. I love his voice and his finger-picking! He soon will be performing in Des Moines, and I want to go see him in person like I did with Johnny Cash, so there might be two old people in the audience!!
Also check out Bury me not on the lone prairie
Diana Camp he’s coming back to Iowa and I’m hoping to see him soon
Good luck Diana your style is my style.
Hey Di, how was it!?
@@TheMrFunktastic2 Yes, we want to know
This guy was definitely getting into bars at age 15
Vins Inn 25 cent beers
The voice of Colter Wall should be acknowledge as a national treasure.
David Yolt which Nation? He sings country, but hails from our neighbors to the North, Canada.
@@juzagirlntheroom2692 yeah we know, this was on CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Channel) Radio lol.
How many songs about Saskatchewan before you 'mericans twig?
You don't own country music...
@@XxHappyEmo2xX I don't get what I said to prompt you coming across to me in that fashion. I do "get" that we don't own any kind of music and said nothing to imply that I had those kind of feelings. I believe music, of any genre, to be utterly universal, and I'm baffled at how that's what you took away from what I had to say.
Yep, that mic can’t take it..
UNESCO heritage
I'm clappin at the end of each song even though I'm alone in my bed at 4am. This guy is something else.
I'm sure Colter Wall appreciates the solo claps! Thanks for watching!
“Clapping” “alone in bed” …..
He's like the big old smoking log in the fire you can't help watch smoulder away til long gone midnight. A gravelly and rustic voice with precision clear picking as a backdrop. Great stuff.
Wow! Very nice
Word Smith you are old timer.many happy days from north Wales
He's the best voice in country in a VERY long time. I hope this man goes far.
Samantha Leigh he's def one of the best out there, Sturgill is a big fav of mine too.
Have you heard jake smith doing the white buffalo?
Sandraaa, if you were a lady youd also tell us who you think is/are the best. But alas, it seems you're no lady. Oh darlin, what a crying shame. :p
And Tyler Childers. Check out their Frauline collab.
@@yanahermawati1128 i don't know if they meant technical ability, his voice has a unique soul grit personality and beauty to it. and the way he uses it in his songs, a voice in a metaphorical sense including songwriting, style and whatnot.
Just when i thought music was dead....this Cowboy walks in
Colter and Tyler are the best I've heard in 20 years
This is the kind of musician that makes people who don't like country reconsider their opinions.
I believe the word you're looking for is "transcendent"! 😲
like me... who loves metal like mammas love their babies. This youngling is phenomenal. keep up the solid work
That’s literally me rn. Crazy true lol
"Thumbin' through my greenbacks, swearin' I made more" That hit me hard.
some say his voice will turn water in to whiskey. A very talented young man
He sings Kate McKannon with so much emotion it's like watching a great movie played out through his song.
Absolutely!
My favorite of his, such a story teller
You sir, have a gift from the Universe and I hope it will not bring you suffering and despair, as it so often does to those who gain fame and fortune. You may have 60 years of amazing, productive musical career ahead of you; or you may decide at some point that you've had enough of country music, or blues, or folk, or music in general, and do something else.
You are a young man and you deserve to do what is best for YOU. The MOST IMPORTANT thing, is that YOU keep yourself well, and happy and everything else is secondary.
In any event, your music is astoundingly good, a real gift to humanity.
Live long and prosper Mr. Wall.
Yes, a "gift from the Universe"....and thousands of hours of practice.
The most perfect 25 minutes of music I think I've ever experienced.
You listened to king krule live on the moon? That shit is real good too.
Voice of a generation.... a young man and an old soul. Absolutely amazing!!
I had been complaining about the state of modern country for nearly ten years before I discovered a whole treasure trove of incredible artists on the outskirts of that pop garbage. I grew up in a household where my mother listened to 90s country and "oldies" and a father that loved rock. I discovered Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash in my late teens, of course, because they were so damn famous and liked them well enough. I didn't know I truly loved country until my late-twenties exposed me to a lot of pre-70s country, blues, folk, and bluegrass. Once I discovered this, I went mad...searching for everything I had missed. Something in it speaks to my Scots/Irish roots. Come to find out through DNA, both sides of my family moved slowly west through WV, TN, KY, and arrived in Indiana around the 30s and 40s. I always wondered why I grew up hearing so much Appalachian slang from all my family members, while the few people I had met from those states talked as if it's all contained/unique to that region. I literally ignored my own culture for too long and I missed out. Anyway, it's great to know that these musical traditions are still being explored and grown by so many talented people. It'd be great to hear the good stuff on the radio, but they prefer Taylor Swift's inability to have a mature relationship I guess.
Plays like Townes Van Zandt and sounds like Cash. Phenomenal
I cant double like your comment. so i have to agree this way
and writes like Marty Robbins
First time hearing him oh lord I guess I been under rock, sounds a lot like Cash for sure!
His guitar chops are like a mix of a lot of classic 50s country with a big influence of Van Zandt and ramblin jack
Maybe he just sounds like him ...
Damn this mans voice is getting me through 2020
Same! He makes me want to pick up a guitar too! Also, grow a mighty beard, build some furniture, and go out to a ranch.
2020-2024 for me. Still coming back
Finally!!!!!!! A country musician that sings country rather than the rap country crap we have had to endure for so long.
Maybe check out White Buffalo?
Ok boomer. Gee I wonder who you’re talking about. This is a bad dogwhistle.
@@andrewdavis636 you sound so offended 😂
@@danielcarr3441 y’all are literally the snowflakes. Y’all are complaining about country music being made by black people. You’re the offended one but keep projecting.
@@andrewdavis636 I'm very certain that was not what the commenter meant by rap... more like, rap meaning modern meaningless lyrics and a lot of autotune. I don't think it had anything to do with skin color but I understand what you mean
Be still my ❤🔥...Thank you Canada!
If there were more artist like this, I would listen to more country music.
Youbfuckin A right
It doesn't get any better than this guys. This is peak evolution.
Him and Tyler Childers have the most stop in your tracks unique sounding voices in country
I never was a fan of country music but colterjust possibly changed my mind.
11K likes, I'm pretty certain the other likes have heard this 100 times like me. Which puts us right at the 1.1M views. (Love this guy!)
That main riff in Railroad Bill is simply Incredible
"the best young songwriter in however many years" Steve Earle on Colter Wall
I love Steve Earle but I wish he could give his own son some props
I wonder what Steve thinks of the guitar in "Kate McCannon."
Colby Dodson lol probably really really likes it
Steve the Legend. His boy is pretty damn good too.
The foreshadowing with the guitar in Kate McCannon is tremendous. Few artists have the capability; even fewer have the talent.
Just saw Colter Wall play at a festival in Kentucky. I was a fan before now I'm a super fan. He came out and watched the group that played before him (Wook out of Lexington). I hope this talented young man goes as far as he wants to go. I'll be following for sure :-)
Thanks for the share!
The Gold standard of country 🙌
COLTER WALL, WHISKEY, AND A CIGAR GO REAL GOOD TOGETHER!! THIS MAN'S THE REAL DEAL!!!
i agree ol'son
This voice! This guy is the best discovery I've made in a long time...
too bad though that you didn't discover him. right?!
I think a lot of people are late to find him, due to lack of radio outlets. Thank goodness for Taylor Sheridan, Kevin Costner, and Yellowstone for showcasing artists like this.
I’ve not seen Yellowstone. What’s he sing on it?
I listen to Colter every weekend!
So does my neighborhood!!
The Johnny Cash references are too easy ... I LOVE Cash .. but this guy has something more . More grit , texture , whatever you want to call it ,, it’s a one in a century voice ...
smh
Honestly I don't understand the Johnny Cash comparison at all.
not just the voice, he has great lyrics and handpicking. he really knows how to tell a story, just listen to bald butte; what a masterpiece
Can’t have a deep voice without being called Cash. They’re more different than similar. The comparisons are lazy.
It's because he's from Saskatchewan
why he's not a household name as the best artist playing truly North American music right now- is beyond me.
For a young guy his voice is incredibly mature
This is blowing my mind! I feel like a river that just found the ocean
Worth mentioning he was about 21 by the time of this concert.
I miss Jonny Cash , but this young man makes me feel alot better . 👍🇦🇺🥃🥃
This broke my heart. My son, 6, likes coltor wall, asked how old he was when he died.... he couldn't believe he was still alive cause he had good music. Hes real happy someone still plays music like the people he loves.
Exactly how Is this heartbreaking? This makes very little sense?
Your sad he's alive?
Your sad he's good?
Your sad he's around?
Should he be dead now because he's good?
Your sad because your child likes someone that's alive?
Cringe af, I'd love an answer on why colter being alive and great and your child liking him is heartbreaking?
And if you say because there's no talent these days, you just said otherwise. So?
Hahaha
@@standardaussie you’re ranting at a comment from a year ago 😂
@@collingilbert4751 yes, someone says something profoundly stupid.
Oh it was a year ago? That means it is not relevant never happened and no one will read it ever again.
Your right 🤦♂️
@@standardaussie it's sad that so much country music out there sucks that a (child of 6) not me, assumes they must be dead because there playing actual country music. It's sad to see my son get into waylon Jennings, johnny cash etc big time around 3, and around 5 find out all his heros are dead and you see a little man getting the news and crying real tears for someone they only knew from there music. But when he found out Mr.wall was quite alive he ask me to get on Y.T often and see if he's got something new. He's quite a fan. That's not sad.he has something to look forward to.
Never change.
I'll be listening to this one on repeat for a long, long time. Keep on keeping on Colter Wall 👍🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Unique voice which is hard to come by nowadays. No need to label this kid. He’s the real deal.
there's something hauntingly beautiful about 'You Look To Yours'
colter, you give this 24 year old working man some pride. thanks bro.
This young man has a very well done mix of vocals, guitar playing and story telling. Country music lives on, yeah !
Once in a while an artist will stop you dead in your tracks. 👍
I love how full of love these comments are.
Listen I used to hate *Country* music, but I stumbled onto Colter Wall, and I was absolutely floored. I found Johnny Cash through him, Ever since anytime anyone bashes country, I show them Colter Wall. Then they understand. (Usually)
Sweet Jesus... Honestly... I thought I just didn't like music anymore... until this. Represent Saskatchewan Colter!!! Good Boy!!!
My brain still can’t assimilate his face and age with his voice haha
Man colter is something else. I wonder if his dad the big time Saskatchewan Premier likes him saying "don't trust politicians" ha ha.
snmthecloser Brad is probably the one who taught that to him.
Tricia S exactly
The girl he met in the Saskatoon bar said that to him
Washed up, swept the floor, ready to leave the shop after working late. Colter wall comes on right as I grabbed the mouse to turn off the music. Ah well..... ill take a seat for a few
Just heard him for the first time. Can't say how much I love his music. And that VOICE. OMG.
His guitar picking is very inspiring
His picking is underrated
Coming out with that sound immediately I held on to it I have a sense of Old country like my Grandpa would play and sing I started to cry I couldn't finish listening to the rest of it because of memories of the way my grandfather singing you did good
Love how you just pluck away at railroad bill like it’s nothing! 😊
SO SHWEEEETTT...much love Tee with LIONS NAMED LEO.[the music worldwide}
....LOVE YA BRO ROCK ON...!!!!!!
I just found Colter Wall...after all this time!! It's so awesome to hear that real country music is still around! And he's Canadian to boot eh! Love it!
Its refreshing to see that the old country souls still exist!. Hopefully he re-invigorates the new generation so they stop buying into this garbage they try to pawn off as country nowadays. Amazing job bud!
He will be considered one of the greats.
Absolutely amazing!!!!
This is ridiculous Canadian Pride when the world remembers Canada I want them to remember Canada like this
and stompin tom Connors
Late to the party: 2023! Found Colter Wall…a mix of Ian Tyson’s writing, and the voice blend of Johnny Cash and Stompin’ Tom. Really great stuff!
Why does this not make it to the radio?
I'm glad even though I'm Filipino that I liked this kind of music because it's freaking awesome.
Colter is one of my favorite singers, you don't get that quality of voice and feeling in the music anymore.
What a fantastic session.
His voice sounds like the great legend Johnny Cash..
Can't believe I'm saying this, but Colt's voice is far better
My favorite Colter's performances is him playing by himself.
Colter wall is me 10 years ago with encouragement. Best on ya.
If you have a voice like his you had BEST release a video....
... for you know, science.
That raspy baritone voice......no words to describe it. And his strumming on that deep beautiful acoustic guitar is just perfection.
Reminds me a lot of Blaze Foley. Love it!
Anyone still listening December 2021 caus I can’t stop coming back
It's 2024 now. I love this sample of his early days. Happy that he his writing and performing has evolved. I like his cowpoke stuff. ❤
Could sing anything and make it good with that voice.
Colter brings the 1937 00-17 into the 21st Century with a growl! Definitely unique, with his style of singing as well as his picking. I first heard him compliments of Pandora, and have since scoured UA-cam with great satisfaction. Johnny Cash? Waylon Jennings? Nope! It's just Colter Wall carving deep new space in the grand tradition of country/folk music. Kate McCannon receives an A++++++!
Loved his cover of "Big Iron" on Austin City Limits!
Just love that 15 series Mahogany guitar. It's just so warm. Suits his voice perfectly. You sound great Colter. :)
You nailed it! The tone of that guitar and his voice are a match made in heaven.
This is a 1937 Martin 00-17. I wish my 00-15 sounded this dry and beautiful. Wow.
There is a lot of CBC "journalists" need to listen to this man and get right with the world in doing so.
When your deep into a colter wall song , and your interrupted by a "2 chainz" add
Dunno how u can tell people your name is 2chainz with a straight face
Gotta get that premium account! No ads just great music!
I freaked when I learned he was a true Canuck. I was listening to Johnny Cash and Louis Armstrong do Blue Yodel #9, saw a reference to Colter Wall in the comments. Listened to Thirteen Silve Dollars, LOVED IT. On the third listen, I caught the line "letter RCM&P". GOOD GRIEF!! What a Canada Day that discovery made for me. His future is global, I hope to see him before the rest of the world learns about him.....but his Thirteen Silver Dollars video has over 2 Million hits.....
Love this guy. HE's the "real country" ! ! !
This young man will go far, far. Colter Wall is one of my favorites right out of the gate! You go, kid! Go! Racing all the way to #1 in my book!
You thought the trail songs were dead? And then comes a gem like this human called Colter Wall. Or is he an angel? 😇 It doesn't get more real. Country songs will never die, this kind of talent is rare 👍👍
Colter Wall will be the biggest thing country music. Bloody brilliant he is, what a sound.
I’m not big on country but the guitar style here and that voice is amazing I love it!!❤
Genius on the guitar. So much talent. God Bless you!
He’s got the look of Waylon and the voice of Johnny with the persona of Colter! I love it! 🤠
