I agree! I missed his younger raspy tone for a while, but I think this one sounds so much more mature. He was always good but has gotten so much better the last several years.
Oh man it's been awhile since I've seen something new from Colter. Dude's really turned into a cowboy, reminds me of my great papa who drove and hauled cattle for a living. Tougher than all hell with a deep ass laugh like that. He's 91 and just last year finally had to call it quits due to cancer
@@isaacbates6563 No he hasn't, go back to the old days when sleeping on the blacktop came out. He was just a kid back then. Compare then to now. Back then he was a young premiers son. A cowboy is someone who works a ranch for a living.
@@5koby4 point me in the direction of that info so that I may rid of my current notion. I'm aware his cousin got him a job at a feed farm but the man was a city boy. I've been a ranch hand here and there and I know that doesn't make me cowboy. Hence my original comment "dude's really turned into a cowboy."
Please make a sat night "QUICK PICK" barn sessions of this stuff right here! 2 hours worth! Raw...just wingin it....with bad jokes, some old stories and lots and lots of this!! ❤🙏🙏❤
Tremendous. Those of us who appreciate real authentic music in the west are hungry for tunes like these. Played in barns. Played with ranchers from down the road. Played atop old feed buckets. Thank you.
How fucked up is it that a Canadian is far more country than anything in Nashville, the supposed capital of country music. He's a rare treasure and I'm glad he's keeping the real, working man's country alive
Canada has a rich history of cowboys. Nashville does not. Nashville is basically Hollywood for Country music. Colter doesn’t have any desire to be in Nashville. He’s a cowboy.
I don't know if I'll ever decide if I like Colter's refined sound more than his early outlaw-ish tone when he was just getting started, but this was mighty fine! That mustache is looking glorious, too! I'd love to meet this ol boy one day for he's the namesake of my 2yr old son.
Them boys gotta it made!!!! Sitting in a barn hallway , away from the crazies of the world not worrying about politics, or the likes just having a big time !
Man this was amazing, his voice is perfectly suited to this song. I've heard Lefty Frizzell, Whiter Schaefer, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Gene Watson, Keith Whitley, Mark Chesnutt, Daryle Singletary, Sturgill Simpson, and Creed Fisher sing this song and this is one of the absolute best I've ever heard. I have probably heard every studio recording of it, and this is definitely one of the best, Merle had the potential to record an unbeatable version but chose to be a bit reserved which held it back a notch. I'm not sure if there's really anybody out there today who can really put the feeling into a song and sing it like they've lived it as well as Colter wall can.

@@Freethoughtman Oh, it's at the top of my list, you don't need a recording studio to make good music, and this is a great example of it. I would rather listen to this raw uncut version then a polished turd from Nashville. This is the best version of this song
@robertbenedict5648 lol...well said....when you're good, you don't need a recording studio, that is....that's why so many main stream artists are really not all that good at all....there are many of those polished turds on the radio.
Mr Colter Wall’s music is magical and helped me through some hard times. So grateful for his knowledge, talent, integrity and loyalty to his art form. Thank you for sharing 🙏🏽
He does a ton of covers and rips most of his riffs (and vocals) off old songs…listen to sleeping on the blacktop then go listen to the original and better version “nothin” by Townes van Zandt
I really wish Colter would use his real singing voice rather than this awkward fake baritone thing that he does. Great song though - Frizzell and Whitley did an amazing job on it!
His voice is aging like fine whiskey
I agree! I missed his younger raspy tone for a while, but I think this one sounds so much more mature. He was always good but has gotten so much better the last several years.
Woah
Love it!! Ready to see him live again. He needs to do an old country album.
@@daniellebishop3362 what would be your top songs he should sing?

There’s honestly no one else like him.
He's absolutely one of a kind
The Kentucky poet used to be, until they sissified him once he signed.
Colter Wall is most definitely a living country legend!
My absolute favourite singer.

What an amazing atmosphere and straight fun with the buddies. Cheers to you Colter and Craig Dumontel and the Dusty Vaquero team.
Thank you young man. My 30 year old son and I can enjoy music, together. We decided that if we had a jukebox in the barn, you'd make the list.

That is one of the dumbest comments ever. He must be lip syncing this and his girlfriend is actually singing in the background.
