I got that kit as a kid in 1963. I was 10 years old. Those AMT kits either had a #150 for a dollar and a half or a #200 for 2 dollars on the end f the box.. Their was a lot of customizing parts in the 57 Ford modeling kit. That was probably the highest detailed kit that AMT had at the time .
One of my top 5 favorite AMT kits I'm lucky enough to have the issue from the mid 90s....this and the 57 Chevy and 55 Nomad are just the best. Thanks for the video
I built the old 57 ford kit when i was 12 (must have been th5 65 version ) i built the repop a couple of years ago, they saved most of the custom parts from the original but not all could be saved i guess most notably the custom rear end and the stylized parts.
Hey Eric, Great video! About 25 years ago I picked up an incomplete (no glass) Revell '57 Country Squire from a local kit collectors show and tried my luck at putting it together. It's stayed built and left in a box for at least the same amount of time. You're welcome to have it for parts or whatever to help you build the one you already have. Reach on out.
Thank you sir for the offer, that would be awesome!! I'm currently working on getting a p o box set up. I will get back with you with an e mail to get you the address. Thanks again!

Great video and information! I was born in 1950 so I saw my share of these "older" models. I am still building now into my retirement. It is always fun to see this type of video that brings back those memories.
My Dad loves the 57 and 58 Ford Fairlanes. He has a bunch of those model cars. My dad also has a real 58 Fairlane 500 2 door hardtop black exterior with the gold and chrome trim moldings on the sides it also has white and red interior. His dad also had a 2 door post which was a old cop car which was from Chicago but somehow ended up in South Dakota. My grandpa gave the car to my dad which he still has the car but it needs a total restoration. He had a Hurst floor shift 3 speed with a 332 FE police interceptor he also still has the spot light for that car. My dad put a 390 in his 58 Fairlane. I like the 300 custom 2 door post which is the short wheel base they made those in the 57 and 58. Those 2 years share a lot of the same parts. I seen guys put the 58 hood on a 57 because they had that neat little hood scoop.

1.93 Dollars in 1963 would be around 20 Dollars today! So despite production and anything else getting cheaper they still want 30-40 Bucks today for the same kit!Makes you think!!And btw you should have included the Revell Kit!Great and interessting Vid!
I like comparison videos like this. That kit from '63 is cool. I agree with you that the slightly matte chrome probably came that way when new. And to be honest, I often prefer that to the very shiny chrome you find in most new kits today. The less shiny chrome often looks more to scale, and less toy-like imho, which is why I sometimes clear coat chrome parts with satin or matte clear. Some manufacturers even deliberately do the chrome less shiny in some kits, for example Tamiya. Whenever they do that it's mostly because the "chrome" on the real car/motorcycle isn't really chrome, but aluminum. Matte chrome looks more like aluminum than shiny chrome. As for the decals, you could scan them on a computer scanner. Then you could fix that small missing part in a photo editor, and you could print your own new decals. You could then make a replica of the '63 kit off of a more recent kit. That would have been cool.
A couple of years ago I bought a bunch of previously owned '57 Ford kits, both AMT and Revell, built and not built, and I don't know why. Each kit is missing parts but I think I can get a couple of complete builds, just gotta decide how to build them (I don't like stock).
Interesting comparison between the original and the latest and what was changed. The Revell Country Squire is a true rarity, it is my understanding that Revell modified the molds to create the Ranchero, then chopped the top to make the Ranchero street machine, hence the most glaring error in the Ranchero, it was based on a 4 door instead of a 2 door, so the cab is off.
Great research. You spotted things I never would have noticed. Been building models for over 60 years and still going. Just subscribed and looking forward to more videos from you. You do an excellant job!
Hey Eric. I remember back in 1968 my dad actually had a 1957 and it was like that white and blue one that you have on your work table. I remember we were living in Vallejo Ca and my dad was working at Mare Island Shipyard at the time. He was actually working on the Seawolf submarine. That car brings back a lot of good memories. Are you going to put one of those 1957 Fords together on your channel?? Nice video man
That could very well happen. I'm about to start a Cale Yarborough vallvoline Buick build for the channel so we'll see about after that. Thanks for the interest!
I bought the '74 release of this kit; I was eleven. The poor fitment of the rear end killed the build, and the whole ended up for refurbishment parts on another car.
More like $20, according to inflation calculators on the net. So, kits have become a bit more expensive, just not as much as the numbers might initially make you think.
For Pete sake do separate the tires from the other plastic parts. Otherwise the tires Will damage the plastic parts! I building 4 original release 40 Ford sedan kits. There was some tire damage on the hood of one of them. Fortunately it wasn't too bad. But I also have a 32 Roadster kit that the tires had destroyed the frame and grill shell, and the seats. Had to buy another one to build one complete roadster kit. These are All in the original Black plastic.

Is it me or does that custom front end look alot like the Batmobile
I can see a resemblance. Would make sense being that the batmobile was based off of a 1959 Lincoln Futura concept car.
