Jim, I'm going to be putting the Tow Truck in LA Awesome tomorrow. (Can't stand the colors) So I may be jumping over and starting this one instead. Looking forward to all the cool things to add to it.
Glad to hear your wife is home and doing well. I have a couple of those 49 Merc kits and I've never built one yet either. I've heard it goes together well. Looking forward to seeing your build.
Those resin castings look super clean. I'll have to check him out. I have a '49 Merc in my stash. I've never built one either. I will one day. Guaranteed. Thanks for the unboxing.
A good 'score' Grandpa!! Your gonna need some of those 'castings' for the Merc. Don't get me wrong! It's a fantastic kit to build, but lacks detail for door interiors. It's got a great engine, you can do so much with this kit!! I built mine in 'gun metal Grey' as a 'Lead Sled' with the large skirts. I even gave it a nasty lookin' smile with a gold tooth in the Buick?? grill. You'll know the one I mean. There's so much to choose from in this kit, I'm gonna have to build another one! You'll have a ball. Enjoy my friend. My prayers to your wife. 🙏👍. 🦘
Thank you very much. The wife is really doing well today, so it's a good day. For the Merc I was going to go with the big fenders and the tooth grill too. I'm thinking of spraying it titanium silver with a clear green top coat. I think that would be cool with a Texaco decal on the big old door.
I think I'm going to be jumping into this one this weekend. I'm going to float the Texaco truck in LA Awesome. I just can't get myself to like the colors. LOL Yes!!!!! She is doing GREAT!
Have a great day and a better tomorrow Are the best parting words i have heard today! I look forward to seeing you build this kit and getting one of my own! Maybe do it up like Sly Stalone's from 1986 movie Cobra!
Thank you very much. You just made my night. I was thinking of Cobra too, but just today I came up with another idea that I think I'm going to go with. I think it's going to fit in well.
Great unboxing Mark. I’ve always wanted to build that kit. The 49 merc is so iconic. One day I’ll break down and buy one. Looks like Jim has some really great stuff.
This is number two for orange and yellow. I was even thinking of a white to yellow to orange fade. with the flames. But it may also end up semi gloss black with the big skirts.
You can be so happy living in the US for all the reain parts you have availlable there! Here in Europe/Germany you nearly get NOTHING!Maybe a little for tuners! But for anything else you have to go to the US!And p+p and taxes are to high to buy anything there!I have the AMT Merc and the Revell! They are so different and you can build so many versions with these 2 ,kits is awesome! You can even mix and match!🙃😉
I do feel blessed. Not only with the ability to get all these parts, but having a friend that does them. He is so talented. I will have to look at the AMT Merc. I never saw that one either. Thanks.
Very cool! I see a lot of silt to the 48 Ford custom I did. Especially the frame. That is a cool kit. I had a little trouble with the exhaust fit, but if you’re putting the side pipes on it won’t matter. Glad to hear Terri is doing well, give her our regards!
Thank you very much. Teri is back up and running on all 8 again. I'm glad to know everything fits. That's half the battle. I think I'm going with a base of titanium silver with a coat of clear smoke over that, then a couple of coats of clear green over that. Trying to get a green apple candy color. I'll be trying this on a few spoons first. LOL
Love the old Mercs... side pipes are cool, but so are cherry bombs....why not use both....you could scratch build cut outs for straight exhaust thru the ankle burners😎👍
I have been wanting a Merc for a while so this will be awesome to watch! That will look fantastic in "Dark Ghost Gray" and those wide white walls. You might have to go a bit darker on the interior but that is going to be a sweet ride. Are you going to use the teeth grill? It will be awesome! BTW I could not get his website to work in my phone or computers. kept going to a hosting service. LLAP 🖖
I like the idea of dark ghost gray (High Viz Tomcat Gray) or maybe even a base of titanium silver with a topper of clear green. So many ideas. . . I tried that link today too and it's down. I'll let Jim know.
You know you are close to what I'm thinking about. I may go with semi gloss black with clear red over the top. It's almost like black cherry. Very cool accident. LOL
Mark, I just found your channel and Thank You for sharing your building experience. Question, do you know of Anyone who Makes & Sells 1/25 decal for a 4 speed gear shifting ball, 1-4-R, Thanks
First off, thanks for the kind words. As for decals for a 4 speed gear shifter ball. I've tried to put decals on them a few times in the past, and even with Micro Sol I've never gotten them to lay right. So after several failures I've gone to using a sharp pencil and drawing them on. I just draw an "H" and then put the reverse drop on the side of it. No kidding, at that scale you can't tell the difference. If it's just a straight shaft with a ball I hold it in a cloths pin so I can do it outside the car. If it's a bent shifter I will glue it in and then mark it in place. But I've had good results this way, and like I said, you would never know the difference.
Thanks Mark for reply, I'm 65 and lol to do that w/pencil, I can't even imagine. I'm suprised No One makes decal for it or decal doesn't come in kits. Thanks Again
I totally understand. Just turned 60 myself. I have a two magnifying lens visor that I put two strong lenses on and then make it where I can brace myself so I can be steady when I do it. If it wasn't for that visor I wouldn't be able to build anymore. LOL
I'm VERY GLAD to hear that your wife is home and doing better!!!! For the paint on the Merc, I'm thinking a candy.
Thank you very much. She is really doing well. That is funny, because I was thinking of a base of titanium silver with an overcoat of clear green.
@@grandpamarkshobbies That would look great on the Merc!
Glad to hear your wife is doing better and you are right about the battery being 6 volt.
Thank you. She is really doing well today. I thought it was a 6 volt.
Thank you, Mark, for the great video. It's greatly appreciated. I hope you have a ton of fun with everything.

Thank you very much. I've heard good things about them too. And with all of Jim's addon's I think it's going to be very cool.
I built this kid a while back. It is one of my all time favorite model kits. I look forward to seeing your finished model.
I'm really excited to get this one going, but right now it's about four back on the list.
@@grandpamarkshobbiesI know what you mean.
When I was in my teens I built one and painted it a Testors color: Garnet Red Metallic… beautiful deep red color!
I like that idea. I was kind of thinking of semi gloss black with clear red over the top. I'll be testing this on some spoons this weekend.
Glad your back on track … Have a blast!
Thank you so very much.
Those resin castings look super clean. I'll have to check him out. I have a '49 Merc in my stash. I've never built one either. I will one day. Guaranteed. Thanks for the unboxing.
He does an amazing job. They are all flawless and fit perfectly.
Great stuff! Love the Mercury kit. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you. It is a cool kit.

This was an awesome build . I really like this kit
Thank you very much. It sure seems like a cool build. Lots of choices.
Have a great day and a better tomorrow

Great kit built a few of them .last 1 I painted purple with green highlights
I was just thinking of Clear green over gunmetal with purple highlights. LOL
This was an awesome kit I build it. It was fun
Thanks you.
Great unboxing Mark. I’ve always wanted to build that kit. The 49 merc is so iconic. One day I’ll break down and buy one. Looks like Jim has some really great stuff.
Thank you. I've never seen the kit before, so I'm very excited to jump in. Yes, the parts Jim sent me are crazy nice. He sure has a talent for it.
l will check out Jim's I just picked up the same kit at a show. Can't wait to follow along Mark.
He sure has some cool stuff. I think I'm going to put the truck in LA Awesome for a swim, so I may be starting on this one sooner than I expected.
Great unboxing, Mark! Looks like it's gonna be a great build.
I'm excited to see what you do with it
Thank you very much. I'm looking forward to getting started. I have a few in the bank that I have to start first.
that ought to be such a fun build
I'm looking forward to this one. I think I may do a fade paint job on it.
Orange and yellow with flams.

Very cool. It has so many options that I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. LOL
Excellent review mark looks a great kit looking forward to seeing it done .
Thank you very much.
Nice to see a ole led slide being down. Should be very cool and to use it in the Texaco diorama it will pop
Yes, something different will be fun. I am thinking of keeping the Texaco theme by going with a titanium silver with a clear green top coat.
nice cast parts you said 1/8 as well🤔wow what a body could spend sweet stuff😁🤩😎
Yes, he does specialize in 1/8th
Love the old Mercs... side pipes are cool, but so are cherry bombs....why not use both....you could scratch build cut outs for straight exhaust thru the ankle burners😎👍
That's a great idea. I'll have to mock it up.
wow nice kit maybe my dads fav custum🤣😅sweet😎
Sweet, I'll try and make it cool.
i have this kit too Mark, i'm going to make Stallone's Cobra car with mine.
I've thought about doing that, but I think I'm going to go a different rout. Mostly with the paint color.
Orange and cream "The Dream"
The wife said that too. I was thinking more on the semi gloss black.

I like where you're going with the dark blue It shouldn't be shiny though a nice satin.
I have been thinking of using gunmetal and then spraying it with either clear red or clear blue. It will be shiny, but a cool deep color.
I like a flat black, make it look tuff.
I was thinking of something like that, but also maybe a gunmetal or even a dark candy cherry. I've even thought of something like the Green Goblin LOL
How about root beer brown on the paint. Maybe with creamy white two tone.
You know you are close to what I'm thinking about. I may go with semi gloss black with clear red over the top. It's almost like black cherry. Very cool accident. LOL

Hi Mark
You could replicate the car out of the film Cobra with sylvester stallone, the car he drives as his personal ride.
I forgot about that movie!!!! I remember feeling bad when they destroyed it.
Website is dead.
Thank you.
