  • Sons of cane presents: Walking cane self defense: Cane techniques Horn Change
On this video we go through the Walking cane self defense: Cane techniques Horn change from the Cane masters system by GM Mark Schey. We show you how to use the Cane techniques from an able bodied, wheelchair and 2 canes when using the walking canes for mobility.
When we run seminars, the most requested technique is the horn change. Students have great fun in trying to perform this technique. We have decided to break this technique down and give a few tips on how to learn and perform it. Always go slow to start and then build up.

Happy New Year gents!.. Another great vid. I've hit myself so hard in the head Ive seen dead relatives. I'm not skilled enough to show boat. But I do believe it's helping me to feel the cane from both hands much better.

Hi Thomas, Happy new year to you as well. Sons of cane are back to work now so sorry for the delay in replying. As with all the techniques we strongly suggest that you practice slowly to start with to maintain safety. At some point this year we will release a video of all the hits and accidents we have suffered during the making of these videos. We are glad to have you on board and look forward to hearing from you again. If you want to share videos privately please use our email sonsofcane@gmail.com. We can offer feedback and tackle issues with video lessons.

I wish I had found this a year ago!! The best explanation I've seen for this maneuver. I have tried and tried to do this and never got the hang of it. I think I might be able to now. Thanks

Hi, sorry for the delay, after a busy holiday season then falling foul of the nasty bug that has hit us all, we are happy to say we are back. Due to family and work, we try to respond to all comments on a Sunday when Chris and myself can look at and answer any questions you may have. Thank you for understanding and thank you for your comment. Kev

Thank you for all the videos you have been putting online.
Incidentally, your video on the horn change, brilliant, and may I add your explanation is much better than Mark Shuey.
Took me a few tries to get it, and a couple of bruises ;).
Again keep up the amazing work.

I am always dropping my cane and scaring my cat, but I was able to pick up the horn change with both hands in less than an hour, although I have years of spinning nunchaku and feel that gave me an advantage. Thanks again!

Great technique. I will definitely learn this one outside though. I've had visions of my cane sticking through the flat screen in the living room. I've restricted my indoor cane activities to stretching exercises as a result. lol

Great video thanks 😊. Good to know how to do this horn change but as a beginner I will not try this move if I am attacked until I know I am not going to mess it up and drop my cane when I would need it the most.

Angled chisel tip horn, or pointed horn, for self defense? The pointed horn will surely make an ugly bloody mess if used with force, I wouldn't really want that result to avert an aggressor. But is the chisel tip effective enough?

    • @SonsofCane
      @SonsofCane  3 роки тому +1

Either is good, I used pointed horn and Chris uses a chiseled horn. It comes down to personal preference. For me the pointed helps with an itchy back lol

though didnt even Mark Shuey say the argument about the cane is that while you can carry it anywhere the moment you use it as a self defense tool it will constitute a deadly weapons charge thoughts I wonder what would happen if you get robbed and have to defend your self with your weapon in the UK that is probably illegal thoughts I wonder if there is really a vaild legal defense thoughts or is is likely that if you dont actually need it it will be seen as a self defense weapon? any ideas maybe if I were headed to the UK I am a young guy maybe it would be better if I bring my self defense umbrella instead?

Where can I purchase a cane. I have looked on Amazon. Their canes wood, 3/4 inch diameter and 36 inches long. I am a 5'10" female who is 71 years old. What size cane should I get? I want something to protect myself when I am walking around town or on walking trails. Thank you for doing the videos. They give me confidence that I can protect myself if I were assaulted.

Cane masters has a size guide. The cane length should be about 1" higher than your wrist where it meets the hand.

When I bought my first one, it was $50.00, with all the bells & whistles. Bought my second one, with a bell & a whistle, for $122.00. They go up to $400.00. They are quality, without being ominous! Very good way to face a knife attack, until you disable him, or can get to your gun! I’m 74, and still get around!

I don't quite understand the "When someone is approaching..." part. Does everybody you even pass by want to beat you up? What kind of neighborhood do you live in, anyway? If someone is approaching and you go all twirly, YOU are being the aggressor. These videos seem to make light of the fact that breaking people's bones really isn't just a fun hobby.
