I've been disabled for years now. I prefer the hooked cane, and I also know a cane makes you a target as you are viewed as being weak. I thank you, sir, for showing us we do have a good resource in our hand at all times. It would be easy enough to add the shark's teeth with a simple dremel tool, and cut off the curve with a saw, and sand it down smooth. Blessings!
I’m so sick of people saying “Oh, you can’t use that, or point that, it’s a felony”. Let me tell you something. I’m 62, I used to be a great fighter. But I’m older now. And if I am going to get attacked, I’ll use any goddamned thing I want to protect my life. I’ll gladly take it up with the judge and be alive than let some punk as thugs take my life. You need to stand up for yourselves. You’ve been brainwashed to just lay down and give up. Pathetic.
Lance.. Jim here 64 and carry my Cane every where I go Period. I'm not as stable as I was to be. I would use my cane as a way to keep someone back as well as the maybe needed time to pull my 9.mm Ruger SR9C from my side or Kimber Micro .380 from my pocket holster.. Old does not mean I am going down... Period.. Hang 10 big Dog your not inadequate.
At 65 and a female, I need my walking cane as a medical aid for my stability. It is fancier than most but I have only been challenged once about it but never by security. It is a hard wood and beautifully balanced. Instead of the shark teeth down the shaft, I have a single straight edge, which is as good as the sharks teeth. My hook-s beak is sharper than normal but effective. Going overseas, I use one of the more modern synthetic, unbreakable walking canes but only due to quarantine. I would hate to lose my wooden one, even though it is a hard wood. I has a couple of the same features my wooden one has such as a sharper hook beak and anti slip grips. I haven't been challenged anywhere with it, while travelling too date.
I've been making canes for a few years as a hobby. On of my favorite types of wood is cedar because it tends to be soft, generally covered in branches, and I never pick one that is straight. Typically the way I make them the handle usually has a branch going past it upward. I will typically designe that as either a second grip about a round pomel on a sword or it's a a creatures head with a long and narrow snout which makes a good blunt but painful stabbing implement. On the main grip if it goes down I like something pointy provided the wood naturally curves down. As I said it's not straight most of the time but not unusable because it just has an interesting shape. I like the carve snakes curling up and around the cane on a straight section. Apparently I've been making cedar self defense canes for 3 years and never realized what the potential was for it. I don't even use a cane because I have no need for it but I have been known to walk with staffs on rare occasions if I'm going for a long walk
The only time I used my cane as a weapon against A man that was robbing me was I used it as a hand held spear. I lifted the cane in my right hand and pushed as hard as I could right in the center of his breast into his heart area. I Put cane in my right hand and guided it with my left hand while stepping forward, He dropped his knife and grabbed his chest as I swung the cane into his head and kicked the knife as far as I could. He went one way and I went the other way as fast as both of us could go.I do have to use a cane to walk so my cane has the straight handle. I had a gun but he was on me so fast I could never have got it out to use it.When he hobbled away I just went the other direction. There were people on the street that evening but they just did not get involved. I'm not mister brave man but instinct took over without really thinking and I acted really quick.
Ronnie URuzzo The Monadnock PR24 police baton training course teaches this technique, it's called the pool cue jab . I learned it in the Military Police Academy.
This was one of the techniques employed when the use of the L.A.P.D. style baton (A baton that was enhanced by adding a handle at a 90 degree angle just below the hand grip). As an officer I had to use my baton on a few occassions due to aggressive non-compliance and any technique that will help you defend yourself should be applauded. You owe it to your loved ones to be the one that comes home safely, so whatever you have to do to ensure your safety, Do It.
I personally prefer the derby head cane, or "straight head" as you call it. having a small spike on the back to concentrate the force of a blow is very effective, and while the hook may be more shallow, its beak-like point digs in. this means that while it's not quite as good at hooking as the traditional crook head, it definitely suffices, and it's a bit more painful for your opponent (which goes a long way in getting someone to back off). oh, and not that it matters too much when you're placing your life in its hands, but they're a fair bit more stylish too 😉
Except that type is illegal in many places because absent the Shepherds Hook becomes a “club” in some areas. That’s the case here in Tennessee. In fact if you have a baseball bat in your vehicle you’d better also have a glove and ball or be able to prove you’re either just leaving a game or enroute to a game.
@@ExSoldier762 - this is NOT true in Tennessee. A derby headed cane will not be considered a club anymore than one of the various odd-shaped aluminium jobs you find in the local drug store. If you want to argue the point, show me the statute saying only a crooked cane is a medical device. P.S. I live in middle TN, and was a cop here for quite a while in the mid '90s. Never even heard of anyone being charged with carrying a weapon when what they had was a walking stick or cane. And I can assure you that any stories you've heard about such are simply urban myths. Hell, even sword canes are legal here now, due to the change in knife laws back in 2014. Just don't try to take one on an airplane or into a courtroom. lol
You are so right! If you carry a ball bat you better have a glove, ball and cap as well. That's why I'm starting to think the cane is the absolute best defense weapon. No questions asked.
Too Quote "Jackie Chan", "A hand, a stone, or a shoe, anything can be used as a weapon." Blind the eyes with dust from the street or break a bone with a stick, never stop fighting if you are being attacked.
I was attacked from behind in my home recently, and stabbed twice in the neck at the outset. I managed to disarm the attacker, and as he looked for an improvised weapon, I hit him with a cane I had nearby. He charged in quickly after the cane struck him, (slightly blocked), and we scuffled. He gouged my eyes and I gouged his eyes in return, and then he produced a sharpened screwdriver and managed to stab me a third time in the neck. I got hold of the screwdriver, and proceeded to disarm him, as he attempted to bite my nose off. He fled the scene soon after this, and was picked up by the police at a nearby railway station, covered both mine and his own blood. ( Members of the public called in about him..) I didn't press any charges or sign any statement, but the state collected forensic evidence from my home and went ahead with charging him while I was in hospital for a couple of days. He is currently being held without bail awaiting his court date. Had I ceased fighting for a single moment during that incident, I very much doubt that I would still be here to tell the tale thereof....
Pharmacies sell replacement cane caps. If none are an exact fit, get one a bit small and trim down the wood to fit. I've used these for walking staff tips before.
Dan Morgan- go to your local hard ware store and ask for "rubber bumpers" they come in a range of sizes all around 1" and usually in a four pack. I went to my local big box hardware store and for under $1.50 bought a pack (4 to the pack)
I just picked up a super heavy duty hook cane at tractor supply.. has a large hook.. made a very heavy duty wood.. excellent for self-defense.. I just had to go to the pharmacy and pick up a rubber tip for it..
lots and lots of excellent points. i've been partially disabled for a goodly while, walk with a limp and have lived in some areas where big white dude w/ a limp = target. so i've taken to carrying a good solid tourist handle cane and learning the basics of stick fighting. i agree that fritz and derby style handles aren't suited, no combination wood canes as they'll break at their join and that those aluminum ergonomic canes are PoSes. i've a custom-made cane that's almost 2 inches thick toward where it has a modified tourist and tapers down to the usual inch at the tip. yeah, the extra weight is noticeable but it makes a formidable impact weapon.
I'm only 30 and I carry a cane with me. Great for self defence, tells potential attackers to move onto someone not holding a hunk of oak, and a police officer can't really say much.
If you want the cheapest cane, then search up livestock cane or whip cane. They cost around $10~$20 and are made of hardwood. They are the cheapest types of cane you can get and you can modify them. Unlike walking canes, these are a lot tougher than the softwood/walnut canes and are really thick.
When I was a Deputy we had some ongoing training that included a brief demonstration of cane use. Even though I wasn't disabled I went to a local farm and ranch store and got a stockman's cane. I am much older now and arthritis has taken its toll, that cane is in the car and goes with me everywhere.
I am aged 73 which is not that old. But my body feels every step I have taken in life due to my extreme sports I use to do. I used to fly hang-gliders , microlights and ride powerful motor cycles. Because of the accidents I have endured. I still suffer with the consequences lol. I have done boxing, JuJitsu, Karate. But I now within my own home do not feel safe. I must make it clear; not outside my the home I would like to own a sidearm for defence as my body is now to weak for me defend me or my family. My mind remains sharp :) It is the flesh in my body that has become weak.
My knees are shot and I have lower back issues, so I use the 3rd type as that was the best for my mobility issue, but the grip is hard molded plastic, not foam. The 1st type is a real pain on my palm because I have to lean on it when walking and away from my rollator. However, I modified the strap so it is now attached to the narrow of the handle with steel rings and the other end has a carabineer to clip onto my belt carabineer as a leash to keep it from dropping or being lost. Basically, it's good for strongly poking, if nothing else - but I moved out of crime infested Los Angeles to relatively crime-free St George, Utah.
ADA says you can carry a cane anywhere and HIPPA says you don’t have to explain why you are carrying it. Any hassles opens up for lawsuits. Almost foolish not to carry a cane, especially in gun free or highly regulated gun control areas. Plenty of videos that show cane concepts and some practice can make it a useful and legal self defense tool that’s already in your hands at the time of a situation or attack. Feel funny about carrying a cane even though you technically don’t need one? Slip an Ace bandage on the knee or ankle and no one will think twice.... not that you have to explain yourself to anyone, because people don’t know your medical history and have no right to ask.
Absolutely correct. I traveled to Japan recently, which has very strict weapons laws. I wanted to be able to defend myself. After considerable research, the cane is absolutely where it's at. Legal to carry basically anywhere, because it's a mobility device. The airline may force you to check even an umbrella, but you will be able to carry your cane on board, and sometimes you will even be given shortcuts with lines, since you exhibit mobility problems (I do have actual back issues). Must-have item. It's like a cheat code that lets you carry a club everywhere.
Well, downing the derby style cane shown as inferior because it cannot "hook as well" (which has some truth to it) ignores totally the fact that doing a hooking strike with the derby handle (not the plain "fritz" handle) has a better striking surface that is a better "concentrated point" to inflict "extra pressure". Especially if you aren't as interested in hooking to trap, but hooking to do damage because both can be used for tripping.
I carry a 2.2 lb 42 inch Australian Eucalyptus old growth hardwood custom stick that I personally turned and am planning to make for sale since I have a huge stack of the non-obtainable wood. It has no hook but is so tough it could be carried onto a Medieval battlefield (they were) It can actually break bones or kill which none of the ones you presented, can. Reversing it provides a lighter, faster presentation. I teach JKD which includes Kali stick and weapons training and designed it for self defense and heavyweight orthopedic use. I also manufacture and sell stainless steel head Irish type hardwood sticks that weigh 1 lb and are excellent, fast, tough sticks with more class than a Cold Steel plastic cane. You can see a few of them in my profile
I've been looking for this video for years, I saw it ages ago and lost track of it somehow, I meant to save it for reference. I was starting to think maybe I dreamt it and I had an interesting idea on my hands :P
The problem people don't understand here is the hook can is detrimental to your wrist and elbow. The complete radius of the head of the cane put stress on your hand and wrist bones which in turns affects your elbow. Look at your hand, are the bones in a round shape? No, the cane with more "L" shape with the slight curve is much better on your body, let's you put more force down to the ground to aid in balance and take pressure of your back, hip or knee. No to the self-defense portion, with the rounded cane you cane do more fancy swirling but that's not defending yourself. You can't apply as much force with rounded Cain because you have less surface contact with cane, with "L" you have more contact which translates to more force being applied to the attacker. There and many more moves the are both defence and offense with this type of cane. I have been crippled since 1996 with a spinalcord injury the left me in a wheelchair for over two years, and another five years learn to walk to the point I only need a cane now, that being said I've had surgeries and still have at lest one more because of the prolonged use of the rounded cane. PS I have used my cane to protect myself where I could not carry my sidearm.
This is good advice and like most of the commenters below they seem to be quite healthy. Most people that need a came are handicapped, move slower, don't have good balance without the prosthetic. A healthy person trained in stick fighting would be the wrong person to try to abuse but if you just walk up to someone and push them over and kick them in the head a couple of times and take their stuff in reality the fight is over and you have been robbed by the time you realize what is happening and the perpetrator is out of reach.
ive just purchased a root ash crook from an established maker. i think it could be a tad thicker, but dropping on the pavment it surprised me the clatter it made, im looking for a blackthorn next
Thank you, I now walk with a cane which has limited my abilities to defend myself, but thanks to our videos I can learn to increase my chances if I am assaulted.
I'm not sure I can pull daily carry of a cane just yet, being in my mid 20's, but I'm certainly not above keeping one in my car. They're cheap, legal everywhere, and very effective defensive tools (especially with some training) that won't raise too many eyebrows--especially if you look the part. I still think we should be able to carry collapsible batons, though, even more so if you have a concealed carry permit (some jurisdictions may allow it but not my state, unfortunately, which is fairly
I guess there must be some different schools of thought when walking with the hooked cane. Some say you should walk with the hook in the forward position, some say you should walk with the hook pointed to the rear. Any suggestions?
A cane was Andrew Jackson's weapon of choice . . . its good enough for me. He once beat a man in the street for trying to assassinate him. The flintlock revolver misfired so ol' Jackson took it from him, pistol whipped him, threw him down, and beat him with his cane. Talk about a badass of a president.
Kudos for the Video clip! Apologies for butting in, I am interested in your thoughts. Have you considered - Chireetler Dread Free Rule (google it)? It is a good one of a kind product for learning self effective defence moves without the hard work. Ive heard some great things about it and my mate after a lifetime of fighting got great success with it.
I bought one with a knee injury in 1994, an offset T handle. wood and plastic. I liked it so much that I cast the head out of aluminum, then got a 1inch round alluminum bar. Covered the bar with black shrink coat, polished the Hell out of The head/handle, till it looks like plastic chrome, side by side you can barely tell them apart. But the solid one is about 7. Lbs total weight. I have to keep one with me and use most of the time because of the Knee. But when I go out to bars or othe "hasardous" events events. I take the heavy one. Have had little need to use for other than the Knee. But As defense the weight has the effect of changing the mind set of the troublesome person, when hitting a shin or four arm usually stops further need. But I have usued it to take the feet out from under a few. Also have taken it to court and on airplanes I just put it on the convayer with my keys walk through then grab it . it shows um no differently than a solid wood one on Xrays.
The medical grade cane is a different animal. The way I find more effective, is to push the button (for height adjustment) and separate the pieces. Think about it ...
My neighbor had a stroke and was torn up. Although he was a teacher in a martial arts with a very high degree. He was something like a master. I ask him if he could handle any thugs and he whipped his cane like a sword. He's definitely still lethal. I was a tough guy and I'd never look his way the way he apeard.
I have to use my cane to walk a lot of times. SSA office security would not let me take it in. I had to reschedule appointment till I could walk with out it. Now it is a wooden cane, I made it. It has a handle. Nothing hidden. Yeah I could use it as a self defence weapon but in SSA office? Why I'm pretty well protected in this office with security. I'm not there for any reason except turn in information requested with an appointment. Shocked me also have to remove shoes. I dressed nice and with my major messed up back, lace up boots well, total mistake on my part. Why are they so scared of old man, disabled, and law abiding citizen? Just crazy.
The end handle of the aluminum will do damage once the plastic cap collapses might only get one or two hits but any is better than laying down & doing nothing

I am an older woman, 71, and i would like a way to protect myself when i solo camp. Id rather not have a gun. But how could i use a cane if i am in a van or worse yet lying down and someone breaks in? Thank you for the video, very informative.

How do I find a wood cane like the wooden one with the saw tooth back right now I carry a 6" staff with a steel tip under a rubber stopper I'm 68 not as fast I was extensively trained in armed and unarmed combat while the in USMC

In have been using a lanyard attached with a Prussic knot, which will slide up and down without delay. There are many Videos about this climbing knot, the Prussic, or UA-cam, There are many advantages with this is not, including reduction in fatigue caused by earrying the stick.
Saw this pop up while looking at how to use a cane for walking with arthritis. Interesting. Is there a way to adapt these techniques for a cane that is meant more for medicinal use?

I did a little bit of cane fighting training with traps But in reality those attempts to trap limbs rarely work But if you look at a war hammer made of steel is designed to punch through armour now take a similar design war hammer/walking stick all hard wood construction not sharp point But concentrated point will with no effort punch a clean hole in skull so easily forget traps and stupid things like that the time just waisted trying to hook a limb better off slamming the all wood war 🔨/ walking stick into a very squishy body and the concentration point of the hardwood handle nearly point will crush bone
The reason museums don't allow you to carry your own wooden cane would seem to be less to do with a hidden weapon and everything to do with the fact that wood can harbor wood eating insects.
Very difficult and unusual for a hard wood cane to be harbouring wood eating insects. For the reasons we are carrying a walking cane a part from stability, you need to choose a hard wood cane, they aren't usually subjected to wood eating bugs. Where as a soft wood cane wood be. You would choose a soft wood however as it would break quite easily. Travelling overseas I prefer to take a more modern synthetic polypropylene cane so I don't run the risk of having to have my wooden cane fumigated at a personal cost. Again being hard wood, it would be highly unusual to be questioned, by why take the chance?
Will TSA allow a wooden cane like the one shown in this video to be brought aboard a commercial aircraft? Or do they just see it as a weapon, even if there’s a physical need for a walking cane?
>peacefuljefferey - I flew back home - compliments of my No 3 son - last October - surprisingly, they allowed me to take my "Walking Stick" - it's cherry wood and about 5' in length and less than an inch and a half in diameter - some times they stashed it up front in the Steward's closet - one Steward just threw it up in the overhead baggage compartment - of course since I required assistance in the form of a wheel chair to get around the airport, my need was evident - AND it was Entered as such on my Ticket Info - Doc has been telling me for about 3 - 5 years that I need Both Knees replaced - Plus I'm 74 and my age is showing - Oh By the Way - a Staff - or - Walking Stick - affords me a Great Deal More Stability than a cane - and I Have two Very Nice Canes --- Snortin' Morton
Either my Google-Fu sucks, or I cannot find anywhere selling these canes. Not even these TYPES of canes. I CAN find Rattan "Martial Arts Canes", but just like in my Military world, anything marked "tactical", it is marked up to a ridiculous price/profit margin. Im not paying 4175....AND UP, for a "Martial Arts Cane". SO, does anyone have links they could provide? I would be very grateful. Thank You.
Cane Masters has canes priced from the $60 range and up (www.canemasters.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=86_108&products_id=63 ). BUDK Worldwide also offers many options but this cane is similar and costs $40 (www.budk.com/United-Defense-Premium-Adjustable-Walking-Cane-32902 )
Find a wood worker in your area that has a steam box to bend you a hickory or white oak cane to the length you need. Make it longer, can always cut it off. He will know what to do about grain selection.
BTW....that pointy end..I guarantee you I know a certain body part where that end takes the attacker down. It doesn't matter if he's 3 m high and has one eye in the head. :)
That is virtually the opposiste, of what I want of a self defence cane. I dont want to break skin, I don't know what diseases he might carry. Hepatitis A - Z I suspect. I don't want a hook, that might catch at the attackers clothing. I want a whippy end and a smashy end. Thats all.
hi everyone ,if anyone else wants to uncover self defense moves try Lomonting Survival Situations Mentor (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some interesting things about it and my co-worker got amazing results with it.

I got my wooden one from Canemaster. Simply love it. Instead of the sharks teeth, mine has one v edge to it that rounds out to the rest of the round cane. Just remember to buy the strongest wooden one that you can afford if you want it for defence. Always remember, it is your mobility aid, if challenged. If security want to take it off you, just say that you will sue them, if you injure yourself, without your cane. Good luck.
Very well done. Subscribe. I make walking sticks out of Graphite Golf Club Shafts. They are ultra light weight and likely would impale. The Shepherds Cane featured is very nice. I think I will be making some hardcore canes.

You could totally pull someone's leg from under them with the alluminium cane...by the time they have tought .?........." oh ! , I can slide my leg away" You would have them on their arse !!!
I have been physically assaulted and as a disabled young woman trying to live independently it is really frightening. My family don't like that I am independent because im so vulnerable with hidden disabilities. But I've always been an independent woman. Now I've gotten worse I use a rollator and I'm wandering if there is self defence for people with walkers.

because of a really bad fight I was in since the age of 15 ( iam 30 now) I cant walk without a lot of pain and it made me feel very unsafe so when I was aboot 17 -19 me dad was looking for anything to help me the oldboy found me on amazon no less lol a cool dragon walking stick from coldsteel that bloody stick has saved me life more times I care to know lol lets just say because I was hurt at an early age I know a cane can be a better friend then yore family dog well sorry for de ranting just loved yore vid und it got me thinking how many deferent types canes one can use not just to help ye walk
DarRedStar86 ... You have been in life threatening situations several times? And a cane saved you? You might want to study how to stay out of such situations. Or practice not exaggerating.
Probably why he's goosed up to begin with needing a cane since 15. ( A bad fight) from getting himself into situations. And now continuing to do so? At 30.
Good source for purchasing a defensive canes and additional information on training in your area can be found at Cane Masters (www.canemasters.com ). Also, if you’re looking for more self paced training check out these PDN links on the topic. www.personaldefensenetwork.com/article/types-of-canes-for-personal-defense/ www.personaldefensenetwork.com/video/types-of-canes-for-personal-defense-000527/ icestore.us/practical-cane-defense.html
Careful what this little guy says... If someone takes your cane away from you, after you hit them with it, may beat you with your own can. In self defense, you want to strike, and move away, do not hook the attacker, because now you have become the aggressor, and have for no good reason decided to stay in close quarters instead of moving away, fast and as far as possible.
What is important is that you learn to defend yourself, because if you are old or injured criminals and weaklings looking for trouble will seek you out. Use that cane and fight back. Don't be a victim.
I use my a walking stick with a marble round handle and when swung in anger I could drop a horse. Twice during muggings it saved me. I broke one man's cheek bone and jaw. The police came and told me to walk away which I did the cops like to see you do what they can't.
As of 2013 by Federal law you can carry a cane anywhere in the U.S.School,Federal building, airport and commercial plane in the cabin. No one can question why you have one .They are classified as a medical device, you don't need a note from your Dr. Period.
So those are the "shark's teeth" on a cane I heard about in a different video. Real shark's teeth embedded in a cane would be more dangerous and not likely to go unnoticed by airport security.
A lead weighted cane is a pretty good self defence weapon, but may get you into problems with the authorities. A thick walking stick is probably a better idea. Especially if you can demonstrate some sort of walking disability. Unfortunately, I'm walking on two legs again. I do rather regret the loss of the walking stick. Such is life.
@wcropp1 gun friendly). Same with fixed blades unless you want to be a legal guinea pig and argue that it's not a "dirk" or "bowie knife." These laws really are ridiculous when you consider that a myriad of other perfectly legal objects can just as easily be used as bludgeons and shanks. I suppose canes, Mag-Lites, folding knives and guns will just have to do for now.
I've been disabled for years now. I prefer the hooked cane, and I also know a cane makes you a target as you are viewed as being weak. I thank you, sir, for showing us we do have a good resource in our hand at all times.
I like the video, I have just pick-up a cane from the thrift store for $3 and will make my own modifications. Thanks for the tips.
It was the only thing I could think of doing at the time.
Think bayonet... it works. I know.
You're around to write this and he probably doesn't want to talk about it. I call that a win.
@@ExSoldier762That’s a very good point 👍
Just don't try to take one on an airplane or into a courtroom. lol
They make the crook canes with the derby hand rest also.
( Members of the public called in about him..)
I didn't press any charges or sign any statement, but the state collected forensic evidence from my home and went ahead with charging him while I was in hospital for a couple of days.
He is currently being held without bail awaiting his court date.
Had I ceased fighting for a single moment during that incident, I very much doubt that I would still be here to tell the tale thereof....
I went to the cane store, the salesman was very nice and informative
you are a great speaker sir and this video really pointed me in the right direction! thank you so much
Tractor supply sells horse trainer canes that are. Thicker and American hickory that can be cuta down to make a great cane . Under 15 bucks usually
@h2o4170 I had forgotten that. It's a good idea. Now what could you use for a cane cap is the question.
I added a 1 inch cap on it and it is a snuggle fit.
Great job providing some common sense analysis to an oft ignored aspect of self defense. Thank you
If you want the cheapest cane, then search up livestock cane or whip cane. They cost around $10~$20 and are made of hardwood. They are the cheapest types of cane you can get and you can modify them. Unlike walking canes, these are a lot tougher than the softwood/walnut canes and are really thick.
It's what I have.
When I was a Deputy we had some ongoing training that included a brief demonstration of cane use. Even though I wasn't disabled I went to a local farm and ranch store and got a stockman's cane. I am much older now and arthritis has taken its toll, that cane is in the car and goes with me everywhere.
Today's stockman canes have changed. They are much softer than they used to be
I am aged 73 which is not that old.
I use a cane and have one like you described; without the grooves.
Going to my shop and cut a few grooves! Thanks for the Heads-Up!
Hears "Blackberry" ... Checks how old the video is 😂
Good video. Covers the topic very well.
my dad uses the same type of walking stick/cane as the second walking stick shown with the straight handle with the slight hook in it.
Interesting video. I’m 72 and use a light metal cane w/the curved grip to walk but usually cannot find one long enough for my 6’ 2” frame.
A good source for strong, hook-handled canes is a stockman's supply store. Used for controlling cattle or sheep.
That is what I have. I purchased a shepherd's hook as well. Helps me on long walks.
Master of cane fu
Blackthorn is very light. I bought one years ago and as much as I love it a much thicker one would work better.
Do many Street fights take place in the US?
Incredible thread
I kept waiting to be shown some techniques.
So....what you sayin. There is no pt2 for this video?
Thank you, I now walk with a cane which has limited my abilities to defend myself, but thanks to our videos I can learn to increase my chances if I am assaulted.
Go to www.canemasters.com for Cane Fu classes and info.
The straight-handled cane is far more difficult to remove someone from the stage.
Hahaha I agree but for use there is the good old fire arm and similar expanding baton if you want.
That's why he was called action Jackson
Roy Jiminez Cane against a gun, pure ,bullshit.
Flintlock revolver? Nice try.
i hope trump does that to hillary obama
I have a knee injury:) I'm buying a can tomorrow
The medical grade cane is a different animal. The way I find more effective, is to push the button (for height adjustment) and separate the pieces.
Think about it ...
What an excellent idea! Immediately there is a two handed metal weapon... I’m going to work on this idea.
Where can I find a wooden cane with the modifications demonstrated in this video?
They're Martial Arts fighting canes.
If you already have a wood hooked cane and a few wood files, you can make it yourself.
Old people can kill you. Your supposed to be nice to them.
We are of little patience.
Yeah, the older I get, the less life without parole is it of a deterrent value. Plus I've gotten kind of cranky lately.
Just crazy.
7curiogeo they are used to ms 13 members

Are sword canes legal??
Thank you sir, I use one -a straight handle, 2 walk and like to feel safe. Blessings.
The end handle of the aluminum will do damage once the plastic cap collapses might only get one or two hits but any is better than laying down & doing nothing
I'm disabled and walk with a staff, easier on unleveled ground. Are there improvements I might make to assist in driving home the point?
What is the recommended spread on a handle for self defense?

Best wood cane is kamagong from the Philippines they call it the iron wood and heavy enough to knock down an attacker
Thanks
I am an older woman, 71, and i would like a way to protect myself when i solo camp. Id rather not have a gun. But how could i use a cane if i am in a van or worse yet lying down and someone breaks in? Thank you for the video, very informative.

How do I find a wood cane like the wooden one with the saw tooth back right now I carry a 6" staff with a steel tip under a rubber stopper I'm 68 not as fast I was extensively trained in armed and unarmed combat while the in USMC
Take a look at the Cold Steel self protecting cane. Not made from wood but it will do a number on a perp.
if you want a serious strong cane go to a farm supply store for a stockmans cane or sheepherds cane
Wulf - that's what I use as a ram rod for my Napoleon cannon. I can ram powder and shot charges down the bore while standing out of line with the muzzle.
Whistle Creek and Brazos Walking sticks both have shepherd crooks and cattleman canes
@@blondbowler8776 ya those napoleon cannons come in handy sometimes.
like when the neighbors refuse to shut up.

Would have liked to see a few offensive / defensive moves with the cane
I have a WSH Wood Sheep Hook from Tractor Supply and cut down it down to a long Walking Cane size. The WSH takes a one inch (1") diameter Rubber Foot ! And the WSH is nice to have in a Gun FREE Zone (that is a Gun FREE fire Zone) like the VA... tjl P.S. Must Drill/File some notes in my WSH Cane...
So where do you load the 9mm shells?
This is the Best informative UA-cam cane defense I've ever seen, you did by our homework kudos to you and your team.
I definitely liked the explanation about the groves on the cane I have to do that on my cane. . . How can I get your DVD. . .

In have been using a lanyard attached with a Prussic knot, which will slide up and down without delay.
There are many Videos about this climbing knot, the Prussic, or UA-cam, There are many advantages with this is not, including reduction in fatigue caused by earrying the stick.
Huh? What the FUCK are you TRYING to, but failed to Say?
What kind of museums is this guy going to that he's concerned about self defense while there.
8:42 ...if you are serious about personal cane defense...
Hmmmm,, as Sargent Shultz said > very interesting..
And i learned something too..
Saw this pop up while looking at how to use a cane for walking with arthritis. Interesting. Is there a way to adapt these techniques for a cane that is meant more for medicinal use?

I did a little bit of cane fighting training with traps
But in reality those attempts to trap limbs rarely work
But if you look at a war hammer made of steel is designed to punch through armour now take a similar design war hammer/walking stick all hard wood construction not sharp point
But concentrated point will with no effort punch a clean hole in skull so easily forget traps and stupid things like that the time just waisted trying to hook a limb better off slamming the all wood war 🔨/ walking stick into a very squishy body and the concentration point of the hardwood handle nearly point will crush bone
I make my canes always checking 2nd hand stores for God hammer heads but there always shingle hammers and rock hammers
The reason museums don't allow you to carry your own wooden cane would seem to be less to do with a hidden weapon and everything to do with the fact that wood can harbor wood eating insects.
Yeah and I was wondering how unlucky you should be to be attacked in the museum :D
David Bowden They might also fear an art thief cutting a painting out of its frame and rolling it up in a hollow cane .
Very good! Thank you.
Thats all.
is there something sharp in that belt buckle
Hi John. No, there isn’t anything sharp in the belt buckle.
hi everyone ,if anyone else wants to uncover self defense moves try Lomonting Survival Situations Mentor (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some interesting things about it and my co-worker got amazing results with it.

Where can you buy the big hook saw tooh canes
They can be found at Cane Master here: www.canemasters.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=86_108&zenid=404cb35dcf4d9542bcd1e2822b03c54d
Good luck.
I did mess my own knee up a bit years ago but I can certainly walk on my own. Just can't take the 3km hikes I used to.
Haha he said blackberry! 2:09
I carry my cane into NPE including Federal restricted areas all the time.
Very well done. Subscribe. I make walking sticks out of Graphite Golf Club Shafts. They are ultra light weight and likely would impale. The Shepherds Cane featured is very nice. I think I will be making some hardcore canes.
when they take my cane away at the museum entrance, I start to crawl, so they give me back my cane so I can stand upright again and enjoy the exhibit.
I like that hook shaped cane he is holding. You could trip a guy with that , put him off his balance.
@2:20 An attached lanyard would prevent dropping the cane.
I want to order 2 Cane's. Please.

because of a really bad fight I was in since the age of 15 ( iam 30 now) I cant walk without a lot of pain and it made me feel very unsafe so when I was aboot 17 -19 me dad was looking for anything to help me the oldboy found me on amazon no less lol a cool dragon walking stick from coldsteel that bloody stick has saved me life more times I care to know lol lets just say because I was hurt at an early age I know a cane can be a better friend then yore family dog well sorry for de ranting just loved yore vid und it got me thinking how many deferent types canes one can use not just to help ye walk
At 30.

I disagree, especially in the case of multiple attackers.
Don't be disrespectful to this man by calling him "a little guy" you cnut!
In my 70's now, I carry a cane and use it well. Okay clunt?@@stanbewick2685
It is illegal to use a Cane aa a hamer?
As of 2013 by Federal law you can carry a cane anywhere in the U.S.School,Federal building, airport and commercial plane in the cabin. No one can question why you have one .They are classified as a medical device, you don't need a note from your Dr.
Period.
So those are the "shark's teeth" on a cane I heard about in a different video. Real shark's teeth embedded in a cane would be more dangerous and not likely to go unnoticed by airport security.

Where can I get that wooden cane?
