    Thanks for the direct and simple defense techniques. I am 70 years old and have trouble remembering the fancy techniques and they come off “cobbie” when I execute, and would never work in a real work situation. Thanks for applying common sense.

    Great video, Gary. Thanks for pointing out the need to quickly pull the weapon back after the groin strike too. Very important. Also nice detail on the potential for different outcomes/body responses from the attacker. Both of those concepts are overlooked too often in other on-line training videos. Keep up the great work (yes I realize I am commenting on a 2019 video.)

    I love the three strikes in rapid succession!

      I agree with your comments Larry, "this was an informative lesson" from Master Hernandez, and yes, "keep it simple"! Practical self-defense can, absolutely, become hampered by unnecessary complexity. Train these straight forward techniques, and "neurons that fire together, will wire together" and will be ready to flow like water if ever needed. And thank you for your many years of service.

    I like this the best. It is easier to strike the target, minimize a miss, and keeps distance to avoid contact or a knife. The chest strike first keeps your opponent at a distance setting him up for a multitude of strikes. A good shot to the solar plexus or liver will seriously slow down the attacker.

    Thanks for your video. Getting that free hand up also can draw their eyes upward, increasing the odds of landing the groin strike. I've been working on a quick 1st strike because that's the one that really matters. In my experience, most men drop both hands when struck to the groin, regardless of weapon. (foot, hand, stick etc..) Another reason to get the cane back quick. They're grabbing for something. Experienced fighters may drop 1 hand. My 2nd strike has been to the knee/thigh. HARD. My plan is to escape, or buy time to draw my Spyderco Street Bowie, or P365, carried on my weak side. (although the knife is horizontal carry, so can be drawn with either hand)
    My knees are shot from getting old and fat, plus 10+ years of formal martial arts competition in my 30's and 40's. Thanks again !

    The problem I have is with the very basics of “How to grasp a cane” holding the cane as most people have been taught to puts the pressure on the hook and does not give the person the available balance that reversing the position which puts the pressure into the stick. This will also allow you o use the hook without having to turn your cane.

    Hi Mr Hernandez. I exercised a bit your 3-strike combo, and I had concluded on a question. On the last strike, why are you using your back hand to deliver the strike? It needs a full circle from the cane to hit the assailant. However, if you use your forward hand, holding the cane anyway after the bayonet-jab, only a half circle is enough to reach the target. Would not it be faster, to use forward hand?

    • @Savagecane
      @Savagecane  7 днів тому

      @istvanfarkas918 Hello Sir, on the bayonet strike, I am using a 2 hand hold for power. On tne.last strike, I have plenty of time to deliver if needed a 3 strike, and if so, it also has maximum power. Remember, a lot of people are older and may not have the power in a front hand strike. But if the way you like to work it for you works, then keep doing what you're doing if it works better for you. Thank you for watching

      @@Savagecane Dear Mr Hernandez, thank you for your quick reply and explanation, it does give me perspective. As I have experimented various techniques, I have found that the bayonet-style jabs have the most (and most reliable) power, no sidestrike can match it. You keep whacking your attacker until he goes down. Then be prepared in case he gets back up quickly. If he stays down, get the hell outta there!

Is it because the other clips, are bullshit ? Because I would have thought, instead of swinging for the collar bone, but for the side of the neck, the stick, would immediately render them unconcious ??? Apart from that, at 70 with Arthritic hips, I enjoy your videos, unlike the other guy, that ponces around with a walking stick, like he just stole it from an old guy !

  • @gregmiller9437
    @gregmiller9437 3 роки тому

    Groin strike from the ground up like that is nearly impossible for a beginner or novice. The groin is a very small target. A cane is not brought upward from the ground by a beginner, especially a weaker person, with enough speed or force to bypass the instinctive block by a man guarding that area. A moving target coming at you, especially "Come at you quickly" means one or the other leg forward, partially obscuring the target. You would need your attacker to be squared off, motionless in front of you to have even a small chance of success, unless you are moderately physically strong and well trained. Striking a dummy like in the video is nowhere near a street fight scenario. Your attacker has the advantage of surprise, is moving, and already sees you have a potential weapon in your hand. His focus is going to be the tip of the cane, believing you must raise it anyway to strike. He will be prepared to block low initially. The groin strike may feel instinctive to do, but unless you are at least a novice at cane fighting, or carry an extremely lightweight cane, you're not going to be successful trying it in the street.
    Most of the people commenting on here are either elderly or have a moderate to severe physical disability. They are not well trained with a cane, nor physically fit enough to employ a groin strike. Please try and keep them in mind as you instruct. They do not have the wrist, forearm or shoulder strength to contemplate that strike as forcefully and accurate as the instructor.
    Don't believe me folks? Your target is aprox the size of your fist. Fill a sock half way with sand or pebbles. Hang it from a string with the height from the ground aprox 28-32" average distance of the genitals. Now try striking it. If you do succeed eventually, then slightly swing it a couple inches side to side to simulate movement. Again, this is assuming they are perfectly squared off and not one foot forward. Again, this isn't a real human being coming at you in a high stress, violent and instantaneous situation.

      Completely agree with you Greg. A first blow to the groin seems like a terrible idea. You have to hit a small area under pressure that can be easily missed or blocked, and possible interference from clothing. Then what? These guys make it look very easy striking a stationary dummy. Master Gary's response below says it all "when done right." The odds of "doing it right" are very slim against a moving aggressor. Sorry Gary, not impressed with your tactics.
