Cane Masters. Cane Techniques: Dealing with a cane grab.
Having had correspondence from our subscribers, the question we receive the most is, "what can I do if someone grabs my cane"? A lot of our subscribers use the cane as a mobility aid and rely on the cane for movement and stability, here we look at techniques and situations where we can defend against a cane or hand grab.
For Sons of cane Hoodies, T-shirts and bottoms please check out the link below.

As always we adapt the techniques and principles to the individual and also Kev in his wheelchair.
We also ask our viewers to try the technique and adapt it to their own abilities.

Question: how do you deal with the “assailants” free hand? In my experience the free hand is more than likely striking towards your face almost immediately after the grab.

howdy from Texas, think its wonderful idea to make them focus on garbing a spinning cane to hurt their wriest over and over! shows a trained mind vs a un trained one

Greetings from USA. This is so great for me because I'm disabled but able to get around. I use an aluminum cane for walking sometimes. Lower back injury and fractured neck. I'm turning 69 this year but refuse to be afraid to go out. I live in Vermont which is the safest state in the US but you never know? I'm a peaceful guy but if I'm going down you're going down with me. So this cane business makes so much sense. You are allowed to go anywhere with it and if you're trained, what a shock to the attacker! I haven't gotten to watch all of your videos yet but would be interested in the moves that can get rid of the attacker the fastest so I can move on.
It seems like getting someone in the shins might be the easiest spot. I've banged my shins sometimes and can barely walk. Plus I think it's might be the last place they would expect to get the shot. Also heaven forbid we get into a scuffle ,we don't want to damage someone's face or eyes because we could be the one who ends up in court! Thanks for everything. I'll be watching.

Guys I think what you are doing is fantastic I myself have a knee injury since April this year I have been getting some hostile looks from youths in their teens 20 30 and 40 year olds who bumled into me on purpose who have blocked my path on the pavement who have tried to force me off the pavement and so I said this is not for me and began rectifying the problem I cut myself a stick from a branch in the woods to use as a walking stick to take the weight of of my knee then I started to train with my stick in self defence establidhing my own martial arts stick defence system based upon the short staff the Samurai sword PR-24 Police Baton and the filipino escrima fighting Kali sticks Jujitsu Akido and logic. Thank for your vid share what you have done will help me develope my stick defence so that it will become stronger. Thank you Sir and have the best of days nay God Bless you all.

Thanks guys. I like that you are dealing with lack of mobility. Most people will be trained to move out of the way; But you are giving examples if that is not always the option. These are very helpful to my family members who are sometimes in wheelchairs. Good Journey.

I have offered martial arts as therapy to the disability sector for some time , we also intergrate various aids and mobility equipment into our training. One of the main issues we encounter is ,stability when performing a realworld defensive technique especially if the person is ambulant with fine motor skill deficits. The cane is a great way to stabilise your body but it is a big step up in skill to then use it effectively as a weapon. We have found it can be problematic if the cane or other piece of equipment is controlled or grabbed by the attacker. This can render the person quite prone as their stability is compromised. Many of the videos on line do not take the persons physical capacity into consideration and therefore may set them up for failure. A way out is to find the persons strongest point of stability and then consider an appropriate weapon option. Just because you are using a walking aid does not mean it has to be part of your defensive toolbox.

There seem to be too many opportunities to drop one of your canes with these approaches. If he grabs the tip of one came with one hand or with both hands swing the other chain around and hit his hand that's holding the cane. That will break his fingers. You have so much reach with a cane that you should use it. You can hit somebody below the waist with a cane just brutally hit a niche in anything. It's extremely difficult to grab something hitting you in the near the shin and if you bend over to dry then you can get hit across the back or in the ribs. You should be very hesitant to hit a person in the head with any kind of an object because that might be fatal and cause a lot more trouble.

Do you ever actually have a real resisting opponent. All well and good with a compliant but a person grabbing your cane in the street wont give you the time.
Im a triple amputee who does escrima.
It all seem if he does this if he does that but practice real time with resistance

I was a little split on liking this video content. .....
The two cane techniques work, circle break aways etc fine. however someone who really requires two canes for mobility & also lacks strength etc......would seriously struggle to make any of that work.
Giving the attacker your cane.....yes it's possible. .....but absolutely the last resort.
Maintaining your advantage in this case the cane should be your focus, which of course would be very difficult for someone to take the cane from you as you would be flowing from striking to joint destruction to crushing to poking to hooking etc etc......
But this largely depends on how much training someone has spent on knowing the cane.
For anyone...but especially the well chair user a tactical pen is a absolute nasessity instead on the empty hand strike used when letting go of your walking cane as shown in your video.
Punch or empty hand slap will not have the stopping power needed to end the conflict / attack.
Quick deployment of the pen from a pre-trained area such as the neck are of your top & making it easyly accessible. This needs to be EDC.
Just my thoughts from on martial artist to another.
Respects & looking forward to your next video.... 🙏

Hi Michael, thanks for the feedback. most of the moves we show have worked for myself over the years. Some of them are sacrifice moves to finish a fight which would only be used as a last resort. With my injury balance is a major issue and I think long and hard about the techniques before posting. Every time i have surrendered my cane to a two hand grab, the opponent has frozen because it is such a shock to them. The second time i do it to a training partner they are more aware of what i am doing and it doesn't work as well. We have been working with the tactical pen and kubatons for about 18 months now and will produce a video for the channel at some point. Thanks for the feedback and look forward to hearing from you again sir.

00:50 nonsense technique. better: push the tip of the second cane crook end into the meety part between thumb and first finger and pray it away (friendly method) or just snap to the groin. no need for more options, especially if those affect your balance. this is a fight and will be more dynamic. you can even better snap the cane end to the face on the inside. the circles won't work either. If you have a strong attacker you will not move your cane hand, or the cane end, this is nonsense. works only against a cooperative attacker. 3:15 better ignore the grip and free the cane with a second cane end to the face/groin. 6:22 good idea to let go but the get whipped with your own cane? what about a simple strong open hand slap to the ear with the free hand??
10:30 thought about having a kubotan available for your left hand and use this?

  • @joshuamorale8602
    @joshuamorale8602 3 роки тому +1

Im sorry but this is simply nonsense. If you cant stand due to mobility or balance issues, you aren't going to be in a position to lock or hold a resisting aggressor. If you cant physically resist you would be better served with a fire arm or knife. A stick is better than nothing, but as presented, this is BAD info that will get someone hurt
