    I came to this realization about two months ago. I use the Autofiber Double Flip wash towels. They’re nice and plush but have a pocket that allows you to flip it inside out giving you four sides for washing. A three pack gives me more than enough sides for your typical vehicle. And this method gives me one less bucket to have to move around as I work my way around the car. It’s a win for me and the customer.

    I use this method for any gloss black ceramic coated vihcles I’ve done or if it has extrramly soft paint. I will say that it is way more important to have a good pre rise to knock off 80-90% of the grime before doing this process.

      Agreeded. I'm about to wash a really dirty cayanne and this method will definitely reduce the risk of swirls. The wash pad would be trashed 5 seconds In.

  • @curtr.5083

    This is probably the most efficient way I have seen this method used, tons of sides to use. I switched from one mitt/two bucket washes to one bucket multi-mitt washes about a year ago using 8-10 rag co chenille mitts w/ flipping sides. I have noticed about 75-90% less hazing; it becomes really apparent after several washes and the paint still looks glassy. This is also just washing on a sealed car, not coated. My experience has backed up your conclusions here, great video I think you are onto something.

    • @STATUSDETAIL
      @STATUSDETAIL  Рік тому +4

      Agreed 👍👍
      I have really noticed a difference with how the microfiber is unclogging ceramic coatings too.
      There is more like grime and grease cutting going on with microfiber vs traditional wash pads. Yet it's ironically less "abrasive" or friction inducing with the contamination in car and prevents swirls.

    Love, love, love your videos, mate! I admire your thoughtful attention to detail as you wash our lovely cars!
    This particular approach contains contradictions to your typical attention to detail.
    Power washing dirty microfiber towels, to clean them, on the hood of the car … the concept is sound, but surely this is better done on another flat surface to avoid the dirty towel contact with the car that you’ve worked so hard to minimize, nay?

    • @STATUSDETAIL
      @STATUSDETAIL  Рік тому

      Thanks for watching!
      That's a good point. I don't believe any swirls are happening with it flat. The motion would cause the issue
      But you may be on to something. So the safest bet might be rinsing it on a windshield.
      This probably goes without saying but obviously you rinse the front of the car up after that rinse off the towel.

    My vehicle is currently at the detailer. I had the ceramic coating applied today, along with minor paint correction. Waiting 2 days before I pick it up and then 2 weeks to cure before doing any maintenance on the finish/wheels/glass. It's a brand new vehicle that I drove off the showroom floor last week. I was going to use the 2 mitt/2 bucket system, but the idea of using a 1 microfiber cloth and getting 8 fresh quarters to wash the vehicle is simple genius. lol Subscribed.

    This is a great approach. I usually wash two cars at a time in my driveway, and I like using 8 of the Microfiber Mitts on each car. I prefer to run the the mitts through the washing machine by themselves, so if anything I feel better about running a decent sized washer load at the end of the day. I think once the Microfiber Mitts start falling apart I might switch to using the Autofiber flip towels -- they're easier to hold onto than a standard folded towel, and a little easier to manage flipping sides and remembering what sides you've used,, plus you get (4) 8x8 surfaces with each towel. • @awpdevil
      @awpdevil Рік тому +1

      Green star is just basically an APC, so it's usable at a higher dilution ratio for interiors. Pol star is a ph neutral interior cleaner that is also dilutable, and it can be used on any surface of the interior. I've seen detailers use it for carpets and fabric seats with an extractor as well. I doubt it's anything huge, but it also claims to have some form of protection for textiles.
      Personally, I use Shine Supply's leather and interior cleaner for everything but fabrics and shiny interior parts, because it has cleaners and protectants, then use their upholstery stuff for fabrics. For nav screens and shiny parts, their Cruise matte interior detailer is my go to.

      Any dirt coming off the wash pad or towel will be very fine and loose. That's why you do this before the final rinse.
      You can do it on a grit gaurd but it's very likely you blow it off the grit gaurd onto ground and then in my opinion it's game over and you really can't use that ever again.
      That's how I do it. But everyone watching can rinse out the water however they feel most comfortable. I get lots of comments on this lol

  • @Naniners

    What is the preferred way, PPF or ceramic coating? I like ceramic as it repels water more and make it easier to clean. In your opinion, whats the best way to protect the car?

    • @STATUSDETAIL
      @STATUSDETAIL  Рік тому +2

      If the budget allows them do both and make sure your getting a good PPF installer especially!
      A full front ppf with ceramic over everything is great value on cars that are loved.
      Ceramic will keep everything cleaner longer and easy to clean.
      PPF will resist swirls a lot and offer rock chip prevention but no magic bullet either way. Really bad bird poo in sun can screw up anything. Bad hard water too. Huge rocks destroy everything.
      So we can add protection and hope we avoid the nasty stuff in the world

    Looks like a nice way to wash. However, I would maybe caution against rinsing the towels against the car paint. For example, if there are small hard particles, etc. on the other side of the microfiber towel, you are now forcing them against the hood even though you are cleaning the other side of the towel. Might be a very low risk but something to keep in mind.

    Can I use the Costco Yellow Microfiber Towels to do this method to wash the car paint? Are they good enough and safe enough on the paint? (Kirkland Signature Ultra Plush Microfiber Towel, Yellow, 16 in x 16 in, 36-count)

    • @STATUSDETAIL
      @STATUSDETAIL  Місяць тому +1

      Yes you definitely can. The newest version actually comes with no tag attached which is really nice.
      What you do need to be careful of is the stitching on the side. So fold it into fourths and do your best to tuck the stitching up so you essentially make it edgeless. Or just push in One direction with your edgeless side.
      More importantly remember that the reverse side of that towel is not the same GSM. It's much much less plush. So you're only going to get four sides instead of eight. Meaning you can't flip it inside out. They're so inexpensive that this is not a problem just be aware that you should not be using that reverse side on the paint in my opinion. On a sidebar the reverse side does a decent job on glass!
      I obviously recommend the towels on my website as those are 500 GSM and the other ones I sell are $1,100 plus GSM. Kirkland towels are around 300 for reference. I'd always rather have a more plush towel when doing a contact wash.
