IMHO it would have faster to use a rotary then switch to a da to finish it out. I work for a dealership and the trade in cars are freaking awful. 95% of the time I use a rotary to do the initial cutting and the da to do the finishing. I realize that rotary polishers are not something that the general public is comfortable using but it's how the job gets done when time is money.
If you use a rotary and you don't know what you're doing, you can really fudge up a finish. These videos are just do-it-yourself detailers. Really hard, if not impossible, to permanently mess up with your finish with a non-commercial DA.
yeah we know, dealers dont really care about risk of mistakes as well., its all about how fast you can push out a reasonable product in the fastest time possible. Not how to push a quality product.
Awesome! Welcome to the Chemical Guys family, James! Really glad to have you here. Let us know if you ever have any questions on which products to choose or how to use them. Thanks for watching and stay tuned for a new video dropping later today!
This video just caught my eye. This one section took 3.5 minutes. For this one area. Question for people who are just learning to " compund-polish there cars is when do you know when to stop the process. So in this case you are removing swirl scratch marks. When do you know when to stop. I mean it's hard to tell when you still have productt on the paint you are working so you can't tell unless you remove the product off the area you are working. Sorry if you think it's a stupid question to ask but cutious.
Hi there! Thanks for your question. When polishing you are working the compound/polish to go clear or translucent and then use a clean microfiber towel to buff away spent product and also check your work. It may take a few passes with the same combination of polish/pad to remove most of the scratches and swirls. - Happy detailing!
great video im sure this is a noob question but it looks like you are putting a decent amount of pressure on the polisher is that correct? would anything change from this video if I was doing a black vehicle?
Hi there! When machine polishing with a DA/random orbital use the weight of your hand and little more to create the right amount of pressure and heat to diminish the compound or polish you are using. The color of the vehicle won't change the technique. - Happy detailing!!
Great video. Thank you for taking the time to show us. A couple questions. How much pressure do I put on the rotary tool as I'm buffing? And do apply anything to the paint afterwards? Sealant? Wax? Ceramic coating? Thank you.
I'm sold!! Ordered some from Amazon just now with the orange pad and clay bar, can't wait to bring back the paint this weekend. QUESTION: Would I be ok if I started by hand (to simulate speed one) then attached the pad to a Black&Decker one speed random orbital polisher? I know it would take longer than in the video but I won't hurt anything by using this will I?
Torq units are built to last. I personally own a Torq10fx for 3 years and use it daily with amazing results and durability. If you are worried about the digital display the TORQX is not digital. But trust me you have nothing to worry about. they make great tools.
For $200 better last quite a while! I’ve spend less than half and expected more than double. My money doesn’t come as easy as some so when I spend it I better get BANG galore!
$159 at Amazon (not the digital one, just has a wheel with numbers); 173 reviews; 4/5 starz; this is the nine-item kit and currently has a $30 coupon. Got mine coming!
J X I’ve had mine for about 3 years. I had to rewire the electric cable inside the housing today from the electric cable clamp being tight and I guess from so much use, but now working like brand new. Im assuming it’s from when I am using it I will throw the cable over my shoulder to keep it from the paint and it puts a bind in the wire. But I will buy another one when the time comes. They’re worth the money.
If you going to take that long for that every panel might as well just go with the compound & Polish little more time but better results. Does this product have any fillers?
Hello, how's it going? VSS works without oils, silicone, or fillers that merely mask and cover scratches and defects. The results you see are truly the results you get! After polishing your car, use a glaze such as Wet Mirror Finish to fill light swirls and scratches, and enhance the bright shine and deep-wet reflection on any color paintwork. Thanks for the comment and make sure to check back soon for new videos!
Hi Brian! Swirls and scratches are only caused when something touches the paint, if the vehicle is never touched it won't get scratched. Avoid swirls by using linear motions when touching the vehicle. Prevent scratches by always lubricating the surface before touching it. - CG Nick
This product is awesome. I wet sanded some small parts and used VSS. Two applications and it has a mirror finish. Topped it with JetSeal and 2 coats of Butter Wet Wax. Looks amazing at night.
Hey Terence! VSS isn't a coating that degrades, it's actually removing and refining the top layer of the clear coat. It will remain scratch and swirl-free as long as it is washed and dried properly. When abrasive particles are dragged across the surface they cause small imperfections but with the right technique this can be avoided. - CG Nick
hey bro hope you answer this great video like always btw. how much force would you say you were using were you just guiding the machine were you really leaning into it or whats best for the vss since its a one step product.
Hi Dexter, thanks for watching. Editing can make everything look effortless, trust us when we say that it's not easy at all. Polishing takes alot of patience and preparation, it's definitely not something you can rush through. You develop your polishing skills with practice, and watching a few tutorials. You can do it buddy, we have faith in you. C.G. ALEX -

Hi Scott, good question. After removing the scratches and swirls from your car using VSS, we strongly recommend then protecting the finish with a protective coating, sealant, and/or wax. While we can't speak for other company's products, we can assure you that the durability and shine that you will get out of Carbon Flex C9 or Jet Seal will impress you and keep your car looking its best for the longest. Thanks for watching, Scott, and thanks for being a part of the Chemical Guys family! www.chemicalguys.com/JetSeal_16_oz_p/wac_118_16.htm www.chemicalguys.com/Carbon_Flex_C9_Protective_Coating_Kit_4_Items_p/wac227.htm
Hi there! Every brand has their own color coordination for pads. We use Yellow for the most aggressive, then Orange, Green, White, Black, Red and Blue being least aggressive. - CG Nick
Great vid! I've been hesitant to try the all in 1 process vs. the traditional 3 step. You mentioned that with this that you achieve 95% paint correction. Which of your products would you recommend to use after this to get that last 5%?
Hi Bret, that's a great question. The complete V Line series can be used to achieve an amazing mirror-like shine. VSS has the approximate cutting power of a compound like V34, then finishes like V36. Depending on the severity of damage and the softness of your particular paint finish, try using VSS, then refine extra gloss and shine with V38. Just remember one truth as you polish: You will not remove 100% of defects. It’s just not possible. Embrace the limitations of paint technology and polishing methods: accept that you can get paintwork to look as good as it possibly can without simply starting over with a new paint job. Thanks for watching, Bret, and stay tuned for a new video launching later today! www.chemicalguys.com/V_Line_Polish_Compound_Sample_Kit_4_oz_p/gap_vkit_04.htm
I just bought the VSS product to remove swirls and scratches. Then I wondered, how aggressive is this product? I have a MB SL550 that's black. I don't have any swirl marks but I do have all of those fine scratches that probably come from washing the car over time. Those are what I want to remove. My concern is that this product might be as aggressive as say, rubbing compound. That's not what I want to use. So, I've ordered the product already. My thinking is that I can try it out on my truck first and see, but it would be nice to hear back from you. Also, I did watch your entire video. You seemed to spend a lot of time buffing that area you wanted to show us the contrast to the other side of the tape. I don't mind spending the time doing that at all. I was just curious if that's about the amount of time I should spend to.
I really like chrisfix his stuff is super DIY friendly and he breaks down step by step and doesn’t say it’s one step then do 5 steps. Also from a production stand point his shots are always super well thought out and in very high quality resolution. I started to tune out of this because I don’t run a detail shop and this did not feel very DIY friendly not even because of the equipment cost but because he said one step a lot then would throw more in.
@@noahf3396 I completely agree, specially since chrisfix also does the process with everyday Joe equipment to show you it's possible and always shows great results. To say that this can also be done be hand and then say I'm going to use the dual action buffer with level one then move in increments to level six doesn't really sit well with me. At least be honest that it will take a long time and probably be a pain to breakdown so it can polish by hand lol.
Hi, that's a great question. VSS works without oils, silicone, or fillers that merely mask and cover scratches and defects. The results you see are truly the results you get! Thanks for watching and stay tuned for a new video dropping tomorrow!
MrMrwilson11 if you notice on his polisher he draws lines on it to tell how much pressure is applied. Lines stop, more pressure, lines blurry, less pressure
+The Biznezz Absolutely! When used as directed, VSS can remove buffer trails, holograms, and marring caused by heavier polishing compounds or poor polishing technique.
Thnx for the feedback! :) So, after i finish with vss, can i use v36 and a orange pad (using da) and remove the smaller swirls and scratches? Thnx guys! :
+The Biznezz From my personal experience, if you still have smaller swirls and scratches left, I would use either V36 or V38 with a white pad. Try a sample area using both and see which gives the best results.
+Chemical Guys I used VSS with orange pad with my Torq 10fx and i still have light holograms should I change the orange pad or go with v36/v38 combination. By the way I'm working on my 2012 Black Mazdaspeed 3.
Hey Joey, that's a good question. Once you remove the scratches, your paint will actually be scratch free until you scratch it again! Taking proper care of your car and using best car wash practices will ensure that the intervals between your polishes will be the longest possible. Most scratches and swirls occur during the washing and drying process, so by practicing proper car wash techniques can really ensure that you keep your car scratch and swirl free the longest. Thanks for watching, Joey, and stay tuned for a new video dropping tomorrow!

+Jojo Pimentel haha true dude im a professianal detailer though but honestly black is my biggest enemy?
great video im sure this is a noob question but it looks like you are putting a decent amount of pressure on the polisher is that correct? would anything change from this video if I was doing a black vehicle?
Thank you.
You want to apply 15 pounds of pressure on the tool. You can practice by putting tool on a scale and applying the correct down pressure.
How did it end up working out for you friend?
How long is that Torq gonna last?
Those digital controls scare the $hit out of me!!!
How long does paint stay nice and clean until you begin to get swirl marks again? Any tips on avoiding them ?
Hi Brian! Swirls and scratches are only caused when something touches the paint, if the vehicle is never touched it won't get scratched. Avoid swirls by using linear motions when touching the vehicle. Prevent scratches by always lubricating the surface before touching it.

Interesting. Thanks ! Keep up the good work
This product is awesome. I wet sanded some small parts and used VSS. Two applications and it has a mirror finish.
Topped it with JetSeal and 2 coats of Butter Wet Wax. Looks amazing at night.
That's awesome man!! I enjoyed it. And u can hella tell the difference.
How long does this polish last if your car parks outside?. Only sun clouds and rain. No. Dnow
- CG Nick
Oh, ok. Thanks. I'll get all that set from the link site.
Should you tape the window moldings and stuff before doing anything?
We missed this guy, the reviews were so much higher.
hey bro hope you answer this great video like always btw. how much force would you say you were using were you just guiding the machine were you really leaning into it or whats best for the vss since its a one step product.
how do you know when you got enough pressure on the machine?
Get a scale and press down on it with the weight of machine and your pressure you want to have about 15lb keep doing it and build muscle memory

"Hey baby, what can i get you for Christmas?"
Send her this video and the list.
Happy detailing!!
Thats what mine did. Lol
And holly wow you spent like forever polishing g that 1 little spot.
You guys make this look so easy
Hi Dexter, thanks for watching. Editing can make everything look effortless, trust us when we say that it's not easy at all. Polishing takes alot of patience and preparation, it's definitely not something you can rush through. You develop your polishing skills with practice, and watching a few tutorials. You can do it buddy, we have faith in you.

Do a black car, not the easiest you can posibly do ... Mr. Professional
Same thoughts
I have a Black Diamond Chrystal 2019 Ram 1500 Limited with some swirl marks on it. Let's see him do his "Magic" on that.
@@edwardasher2110 I also have a black 2019 and swirl marks. I was able to remove them using the methods prescribed in the video and I'm far from a professional. It's all patients and prep work.
@@mmholling87 I took my truck to a local detailer and he removed all of the swirl marks, polished it and the applied a ceramic coating on it. Looks amazing.
@@edwardasher2110 how much was that?
Can I use v38 to do this same scratch and swirl removal job?
Were going to be usthing a one thtep prothedure to remove the thwirl markths and thcratches.
this is fuckin hilarious hahahahaha
lmao!
😂😂😂😂😂 I died
Man...say...lol
Way to make fun of the guy douche bag
I have a question can you use the clay bar on glass to remove contaminants
Hey Ron! Absolutely, use the clay bar on any surface that is gloss painted, shiny or clear to remove contamination.
thanks l order one
1 quest. after he was done would it be advisable to put somec2v3/liquid crystal on 4 an added finish = protection?
Hi Scott, good question. After removing the scratches and swirls from your car using VSS, we strongly recommend then protecting the finish with a protective coating, sealant, and/or wax. While we can't speak for other company's products, we can assure you that the durability and shine that you will get out of Carbon Flex C9 or Jet Seal will impress you and keep your car looking its best for the longest. Thanks for watching, Scott, and thanks for being a part of the Chemical Guys family!

Just might pick this up. My car is just as bad of not worse with swirl marks. It was pretty convenient that it was the same car in you video to.
Do the colors mean anything on the pads or does it depend on the company
Hi there! Every brand has their own color coordination for pads. We use Yellow for the most aggressive, then Orange, Green, White, Black, Red and Blue being least aggressive.

I went into the twilight zone while he was polishing
It's okay to be lazy, that's why professionals charge you so much to do the job you don't want to do.
Its normal
Is it recommended to apply butterwax and or hydroslick after using this product?
Hey! Adding HydroSlick and then Butter Wet Wax will lock in shine while repelling harsh elements.
@@ChemicalGuys
I really appreciate all your guys videos, thank you so much for responding. God bless you.

Chrisfix better nd not sellout
jaime98jr ZOOM They aren’t a sellout either. They are advertising their own products on their companies UA-cam channel.
Moe Monroe lmao thats what you sound like actually
How are they selling out when it's their own stuff? Did he sell out to himself?
Are there any fillers in that product like a lot of the one step polishes out there?
Hi, that's a great question. VSS works without oils, silicone, or fillers that merely mask and cover scratches and defects. The results you see are truly the results you get! Thanks for watching and stay tuned for a new video dropping tomorrow!
I wanna polish my car now. Lol
Hello guys and the video is amazing I will try asap the product and hope to be another happy customer......
Detail spray... or soapy water.
How much pressure were you using initially and did you change the pressure at or toward the finish?
MrMrwilson11 if you notice on his polisher he draws lines on it to tell how much pressure is applied. Lines stop, more pressure, lines blurry, less pressure
Does it also remove buffer holograms?
+The Biznezz Absolutely! When used as directed, VSS can remove buffer trails, holograms, and marring caused by heavier polishing compounds or poor polishing technique.
Thnx for the feedback! :)
So, after i finish with vss, can i use v36 and a orange pad (using da) and remove the smaller swirls and scratches? Thnx guys!
The Biznezz no
so how often do you have to do this before the swirls/scratches come back?
Hey Joey, that's a good question. Once you remove the scratches, your paint will actually be scratch free until you scratch it again! Taking proper care of your car and using best car wash practices will ensure that the intervals between your polishes will be the longest possible. Most scratches and swirls occur during the washing and drying process, so by practicing proper car wash techniques can really ensure that you keep your car scratch and swirl free the longest. Thanks for watching, Joey, and stay tuned for a new video dropping tomorrow!
Anyone else think he's coverage over the panned was sloppy?
What??
I know what he is going on about
Jacob Walker yeah
After using this product, is the surface ready to wax?
Hey Leo! Absolutely, after polishing it would be best to apply a protective coating such as wax.
Chemical Guys ok, cool! Thanks for responding.
Always have a hard time getting swirls out with a da. Takes forever too ;_;
Nice. you sure went over that comparison line a few extra times.
ok but do I HAVE to polish after clay bar?? what happens if I clay bar and don't polish? will I die?
Martin Meza More likely you’ll die while clay barring due to fear of thinking about not polishing
Contaminants will embed faster plus more swirl marks from clay bar
How much pressure are you applying?
Matthew Leach let the machine do the work, light pressure on a dual action so it can properly work!
james scipione thanks, looks like he was applying some pressure.
I like how UA-cam automatically turned on subtitles on this video
