  • Welcome to proper car wash technique, the art of washing a car swirl free and safe car washing technique. I have spent many years finding the perfect car wash method to best preserve the fully corrected surfaces of the many cars I perform paint correction on and apply ceramic coatings to. I can't tell you how many times I've seen people come back not even 3 months later with their paint absolutely tanked and covered in swirl marks from going to cheap hand washes or using the "two bucket method" and a wash mitt they picked up at autozone.
Throw away your wash mitts because all you are doing is scratching your paint with dirt particles you think washed away when you dunked in that second bucket (did you even dunk in the right bucket?). Those grit guards are great for keeping some dirt at the bottom of the bucket but what about the dirt and earthy particles we sometimes pick up that float? You are not fully cleaning a wash mitt when you dunk it in this second bucket. Clean would be you pressure wash the mitt after each panel and then also wash it in your laundry inbetween panels also. That's how useless wash mitts are, I don't care what its made out of.
All you need is 1 bucket and about 7-10 plushy towels like the ones you can purchase at the link below.
    www.detailing.com/store/edgel...
These are the towels I use for literally everything, they are very hard to mar paint with. Toss all these towels into your wash bucket that is filled with water and either a rinse-less or waterless wash agent or the same soap you are washing the car with.
Pre Soak the car with the pressure washer to remove the first layer of dirt and grime, this will allow the soap to penetrate deeper and also there will be less dirt to push around on the surface. Pushing around dirt and dust is what causes swirls, using dirty towels, dirty mitts, california dusters, etc is what causes swirls.
Then foam up your car with your choice of soap. I like Shine supply hot shot, shine supply shift and Feynlab Pure wash
    shinesupply.com/products/hots...
    shinesupply.com/products/shif...
    www.feynlab.com/product/pure-...
Once you have soaked the car with foam, take a towel and fold it into a square, starting on the roof of the car wipe with one side of the towel. Check your towel, is it dirty? If you answered yes then flip to the other side and wipe another section, keep folding to the clean sections of the towel and then when you have used all the sections, toss it aside and grab a new one from your bucket.
This way YOU ARE ALWAYS USING A CLEAN SOFT TOWEL ON EVERY SURFACE not the same wash mitt you've gone around the whole car with. This method of washing will reduce swirling a TON especially on ceramic coated or paint protection film covered vehicles.
After you have gone around the car, thoroughly rinse the car. This would be the part where you would want to connect your CR spotless or other water purifying device so you can rinse all the soap and grime off with deionized water. Just doing this during final rinse down will save you money on the resin required to filter water in some of the at home water filtration systems.
Then grab a nice drying towel and an air blower.
    www.feynlab.com/product/twist...
    www.detailing.com/store/metro...
Go around the car and blow dry thoroughly and follow up with the towel, if you are washing a ceramic coated car then most of the water will just blow right off so you're only wiping up droplets with the towel, on non coated vehicles you may need to use the towel more. By using a combination of air and the towel, you should only need 1 - 2 of these drying towels to fully dry the vehicle.
Follow up with a quick detail spray after. This will remove any streaks left from washing and depending on the product can offer additional shine and some minor protection to give you the competitive edge.
Even Larry Kosilla of AMMO NYC uses this method when washing cars. Its perfect!

Washing my own vehicle has become therapeutic for me. I totally understand this method, and the whole purpose of the multi towels. For me, I enjoy the two bucket method. I've been doing it for several years, and my Durango is still swirl free. There are so many "correct" ways to wash a vehicle, from the two bucket method, multiple wash mitts/one bucket method, ONR one bucket, Rinseless, Gary Dean Method, etc. The one thing in common with all of these methods, is to not introduce the dirt that was just cleaned off the car, back onto the car. So there really isn't a wrong or right way from all of these methods I listed, as it becomes more of a preference.
Keep up the great work with all of these videos.

this is the way I wash cars. period. it's better easier and saves water and towels are cheaper than washmits.. I also have a second shop vac I use un reverse that's never used for vacuuming dedicated to blowing water off. I like just hosting a 1 lb hose than a 15lb blower

Punch it is expensive and streaks, I dilute it to get more money out of it and make it easier to use. Standalone it would be a 6 month coating, I found diluting it worked well for a quick shine and streak removal after a wash. Same with feynlab. I just find other ways to make use of my favorite stuff

i would change it to: 1. Pre rinse, 2. Foam cannon / let it dwell for 4-5mins / 3 . Rinse / 4. Foam Cannon with your one bucket method. You shortcut just increase a change of slight marring or worse ..

    • @WickedAutoDetailing
