  • So I get this question a bit in my comments and see it a lot on facebook pages so thought I'd make this video to try clear things up for people who don't know much about tuning.
    My current mods are Wings can with no baffle, DNA filter and stage 2 plate (no lid), Tekmo header pipe and Power Commander 5 which has been custom tuned on a dyno.
    The company i refered to about the fuel dongle is... I can't
    for the life of me remember what it was. It will come to me one day, I know I've seen it in my browser history (which is extensive) somewhere!!
    Any questions, please fire them in the comments and i'll be happy to answer them to the best of my knowledge!!

    Great video. If you want this bike to really open up I'd say start with the
    1.SAS plus canister removal.
    2. add fuel and dongle
    3. Add a 12 mm O2 cap as well. because you will be taking the O2 sensor out for the fueling dongle.
    4. Get rid of the crappy stock exhaust and a exhaust. I went with arrow exhaust from Rottweiler performance because I got everything there it was more convenient for me. You will have to add the link pipe for the arrow exhaust keep that in mind.
    5. Add a better intake. R a d e intake gives you a lot of space or you can add a Rottweiler intake for a little more power ultimately up to what benefits you the most.
    6. Lastly add a PCV Commander. I would do this step last because it can program it based on what you have on your vehicle. That way it's plugging play for you. . I recommend the Pow + IGN map.
    Those six will make it a completely another animal.
    Doing those six mods will cost anywhere from $1,1 00 to $1,500 bucks well worth the investment in my opinion.
    Bonus add on- oberon slave cylinder clutch. The stock ones have a lot of faulty issues. This clutch has been a lot better for overall use better shifting and takes away some out of the stock one failing which is very common.

      Yup, pretty much got all of this and it rips. Intake, Exhaust and fueling really is the holy trinity when it comes to tuning!

    Good job tweedy...theres one additional for those with special circumstances like me..i live at 6000 ft above sea level and ride up n down daily..sea level to 6k ft...so, with pcv (plus mod intack and open exhaust, etc) i "have to" map my bike at sea level which means bike is great at sea level and fat (too rich) at 6k ft...if i map it at 6k ft then its gonna be lean at sea level...so, a powercommander autotune is option ($250)...it constantly adj fuel no matter where u are... you set a/f ratio at whatever u wish along with timing adv (make own custom)..secondly, can make an economy map with the auto tune, save it in pcv then switch between the autotune and the economy (or race map for track)....the pcv is the best option in my opinion as u can retune anytime easil...LETS RIDE!

    So, my 701 is running rich and I was wondering what I can do about it. Thank you for doing this video. I ll watch it again. I need to research this more. :-)

    • @Twedymoto
      @Twedymoto  4 роки тому +1

      Are you sure it's running rich? Have you tested with an air fuel meter? These bikes are programmed to run lean from the factory. Do you have any mods?

    • @cjmeistervideos
      @cjmeistervideos 4 роки тому

      @@Twedymoto :-) Thank you for the questions. You are the second one to ask me if I am sure it is running rich. I ll be honest, I am told that it is running rich by a mate who rides behind me. I am looking at testing air-fuel mixture to get a more realistic view. I did install the Rade Garage airbox and removed the OEM one. So I wondered. Any ideas where I can measure the air-fuel mixture? :-)

    • @Twedymoto
      @Twedymoto  4 роки тому +1

      Ah, ok. Humans are bad at sensing things lol. So if you've got the stock exhaust can it could just be because it's so hot but you definitely wont be running rich! The ECU will keep it at what it's programmed to using the sensor in the exhaust. The easiest and probably cheapest would be to go to a dyno shop and ask them for a power run and they'll test the AFR too, should cost 40-50£/$/e and you'll know for sure after that!

    From what I've read, you must have the fuel dongle on the 701 and 2016 up ktm 690 or the computer will revert back to stock fuel trim below 5200ish rpm. I installed one on my stock 21 smc-r (US model). Made a huge difference in response below 5200rpm. Rottweiler has a video talking about this.

      @Twedymoto  2 роки тому

      Yeah, mine was a 2017 model. I haven't really kept up to date on the mods for the newer models but i have seen that the '21 model needs a different type of dongle. Good to hear it's worked well for you though! 👌

    Cool videos man. I currently run the Akrapovic slip on with no baffle. And just stuck in the DNA filter it’s a 2016 husky.
    How will this be for running short term you reckon ?
    Still stock header but also going to get the tekmo header pipe and power commander 5.

    You can pair the pc5 with the autotune wich is supposedly tuning the bike for you also another benefit of the pc5 is that they have a quickshifter kit ready for our bikes :D i was wondering tho if we can use the oem quickshifter that comes with the new 690s

    • @Twedymoto
      @Twedymoto  4 роки тому +1

      I'm sure i've looked into this as the 701 Vitpillen has a quickshifter too but i think it's ECU based and not in the gear sensor or something like that.

    • @Twedymoto
      @Twedymoto  3 роки тому +1

      I don't have any experience with auto tune but from what I can gather from other owners, it works pretty well. Especially if you ride in an area where your altitude can change drastically. Here in the UK we're never far from a couple hundred meters above sea level. 👍

    I just bought the 2019 model, when you buy the akrapovic system with airbox and airbox cover the mapping is included with the kit. My dealer flashed the original ecu with an entire new map from the factory. I'm in Belgium . During the airbox install he also removed all the euro 4 stuff like secondary air system. He also installed block off plates just like in the rottweiler kit.He claimed it makes 80hp!! I can hardly keep the front wheel down

      Hey Bart De Croo! I also got the 2019 701 Supermoto and have been able to aquire the EVO1 tuning kit separately from the dealer as they say it is no longer legal to sell. I asked if they could perform the factory mapping for the EVO1 kit, but they said they are unable on the 2019 models and onwards as it is locked by the factory for them to access as they can on 2016-2018 models. Do you know any of this? Which company in Belgium did you use?
      Thanks!

      No I didn't buy the Evo kit as it's way overpriced. I was friendly with my dealer so they put the map on for me without buying the full kit. I have a DNA filter with no lid and a Wings can. I'll update the description with my mods :)

    How do you think the full rottweiler airbox would compare with the DNA lid and filter performance wise? Worth the 200 dollar premium?

    • @Twedymoto
      @Twedymoto  4 роки тому

      The dna filter is still housed in the stock airbox which I think is the limiting factor. I haven't looked into it but I'd imagine it would have a gain over stock. Personally I don't think it's worth the $350 plus shipping. I'm probably going to fit a k&n ru1750 or 1760 👍

    Hello,
    I have the 2019 SMCR and put a Wings exhaust on it, but no other mods ( except fan switch) and I understand that I needed no new map? Is that correct?

    • @Twedymoto
      @Twedymoto  2 роки тому +1

      That's right. Wings suggest that you don't need to map the bike if you use their exhaust with the baffle installed. Might be a good idea to get the fuel dongle/optimiser though to make the throttle smoother and less snatch at the bottom endb👍

    Hi! Im really considering getting a 2019 model, but with my license i can only get an A2 restricted one (30kw). I'm also thinking about exhausts.. and I've been looking at the Wings slip on. If i remove the baffle is it enough buying a power commander V and download the correct map? (sorry for my english). Thanks in advance!

    • @Twedymoto
      @Twedymoto  5 років тому +1

      Your English sounds better than mine! I honestly can't comment on this as not many people have the bike restricted with mods. I guess that the bike can be brought up to a much higher power by using the power commander as the restriction is in the bikes software. I'd put the exhaust on then take it to a dyno centre to see how it's running and if it's very lean then I'd do something about it.

    • @Twedymoto
      @Twedymoto  5 років тому

      If you're only removing those parts, you don't need a remap. You will however need a dongle so it doesn't create a fault in the ecu. These usually come as part of the blanking kit.

    you are trying to explain stuff by basically telling that you have no idea of how any of it works :D
    So first of all, KTM, and therefor most likely Husq as well, has an initializing run procedure of 15 mins coldstart. This will adjust the mixture. This is recommnded for any change on intake and exhaust, but also when you change your above see leven significantly.
    About the "fuel dongle": This mod means you remove the lambda sensor from the exhaust manifold. The Lambda sensor will adjust the mixture to be more lean on lower RPMs for better emission. The "dongle" ist a blind plug which only prvides a electrical resistance to FI wont complain about its removal.
    I dont see any necessity to change the mapping, except you really wanna race, having a highly costmomized setup.

    • @zelo533
      @zelo533 3 роки тому +1

      You don't know how it all works as well. :D anything below like 50% throttle is open loop, which means the ecu is looking at the lambda sensor and correcting to 14.7afr or 1 lambda, anything above 50% throttle or whatever husqvarna sets it to is closed loop which means the ecu uses preset factory values usually richening up the mixture but it doesn't look at the lambda sensor anymore. If you slap a exhaust and performance filter on it. The bike might be able to correct for it in open loop, but it won't make any changes in closed loop.
