  • Yep it's a wrenching video. I replace the clutch plates on a Husqvarna 701 supermoto.
I made this video because I could not find any other videos showing how to fix/change the clutch plates on a Husqvarna 701Supermoto, so I just hope it will help someone else.
Please don't subscribe to this channel thinking I'm going to continue making Husqvarna maintenance videos because so many other channels do that much better than me. I just normally make silly videos with poor jokes as I ride around London. So this video was probably a one-off. If you know better ways of doing this or I've done something wrong in this video leave a comment to help others, pass it forward. Lastly, it would be great if this video helped you please give it a 'like' so it stays in the search results, thanks.

A video to show anyone who's interested how I replaced the clutch plates on my 2016 Husqvarna 701 Supermoto. Not my usual type of video, but I couldn't see any other videos doing this to a Huskey 701. I hope this helps or encourages someone to do their own clutch repair. Good luck. BTW, I meant grease not oil in the video. Remeber grease is the word.

Great video and would be great if there was a list of all torque settings for the 701?

The manual that comes with the bike has all the specs you need!

Yeah it's still pretty annoying to use also in comparison to any Japanese factory manual or a full service manual. The manual lists most parts by name and a torque then list anything not listed by name if is X size it's torque value. That it frustrating as I have been racing and working on bikes since was a child but am not a motorcycle engineer I am a IT engineer so I don't know the name or the "Austrian" name of each part. My Honda manuals have a picture, arrow to in on the bike and a number then a torque value as well as common names for parts like wheel axle nut. Instead of me questioning or taking 5 minutes to thumb through for my torque values its 5 seconds! The wheel was already created. Worst part about my 701 is the manual, well after I fixed the shifter with a factory pro shifter. Rest is pretty good, have yet to fry my clutch but hey I will still watch a video on one. Torque values on it are important, it should be easier to use.

How many miles did you get out of the original clutch ? mine started slipping at 27K (miles). and I found metric oil at the Husq dealer ;)

Shouldn’t the tabs on that last plate go in the long slot, like all the others?

    So. I did this.
    And now I can’t get into 1st, 4th, 5th, and 6th.
    What did I do wrong?

What was the reason behind you doing this?
I have a 2016 enduro bike where the clutch have been weird ever since 1000km service... I was out earlier today and it grips extremely late, and It would (almost) not power wheelie in 2nd gear ...
The supplier has all along denied there being anything wrong with the clutch, even though another customer had the excact same complaint as me..
I've heard about some people adding another plate in the clutch, but idk if I should do that or change the clutch plates..
    What oil do you use?

    • @BeansOnToast_YT

I changed the clutch plates because the clutch was slipping even when just accelerating. When I got the old plates out and measured the thickness they had worn down, and after replacing the steels and friction plates the clutch felt as it should do.
I suspected the clutch had been abused before I got the bike as it was a recovered bike from being stolen.
If you do decide to replace the plates, I used Husqvarna plates, I did consider using EBC plates which were cheaper but didn't in the end as I read somewhere they were slightly different and I didn't want the extra hassle when it came to reassembly.
The oil I use the one from my husky dealers, so it's really expensive. Motorex 10w 50 fully synthetic.
I'm using the expensive oil as the bike doesn't hold much so it's affordable for me.

@@BeansOnToast_YT Thanks for the reply. I wonder if that can be the case for me too.. Last time I was out it started gripping at like 80-85% released handle, almost no power in 2nd gear (felt like slipping)
The oil I use is Putoline Ester tech something I believe.. Don't remember if its's nano tech or ester tech..
I assume the easiest way for me is to just tilt my bike and open it up and check thickness of the plates.. I mean, it could be the oil too..
When the bike was new (before 600 mile/1000km service) the clutch was a dream.. Right after the service it went poop... As I wrote another customer made the same complaint as me.. Might have been the oil they are using..
WHere does your bike grip now? Can you get me the excact name of the oil you use so I can find that and try it? :)

@@BeansOnToast_YT That oil is $25.68 per litre .. quite stiff price hehe :D

    • @BeansOnToast_YT
      @BeansOnToast_YT  5 років тому +1

Yeah that oil is a mad price, I use it only in the husky and get as an excuse to visit the shop. It's a bit suspicious that two of you both had clutch problems after the first service. I assume it was a husky dealer so you would think they wouldn't cut corners on the oil. But changing the oil would be my first step in trying to solve this problem.

"Find a non-metric oil" ??!" Oil is not metric or imperial, oil is oil...
