Adopting the AM4 platform back in 2018 was the best gaming PC decision I ever made. Went from a 2400G to a 5600X3D on the same motherboard for $160usd.
@@user-gq3eq5bf9t i'd say it REAALLY depends on your budget, but also on what you want from your PC. If you are on a tight budget, like 500-800$ (or € or pounds for that matter) then i guess AM4 is still very, very viable. You can build a PC for roughly 700-800 bucks on AM4 with the 5700x3d or if you need it around the 500-600$ mark, you could go for a Ryzen 5600(X), depending on the deal you find. I am in Germany and I can get a Ryzen 5 5600 with the Boxed cooler for 91€. paired with a cheap motherboard (maybe 100€, can be cheaper), some 32gb DDR4 RAM (60€), Storage as needed and a possibly used GPU or a new one on a deal, you can get really budget and that PC can last you the next couple years, maybe even till AM6 drops, or at least until the next Series of big CPUs drop. If you have more than like 800 bucks or so for budget, i guess going for the 7000series or the 9000series starts to become the better option. its just better cpu performance, upgrading is easier and so on. i guess above 1000$ budget i would say you should always go for AM5, since it is decently cheap to get into these days (7600x for 200€ in germany, DDR5 is not MUCH more expensive than DDR4). Hope i could help, still recommend checking out other opinions tho!
I purchased the 5700X3D for under $150 at Microcenter and sold my 5600X for $80. For a $70 upgrade I got the extra 3D V cache technology, and a few more cores. As a bonus, the upgrade made a considerable difference in Warzone and Fortnite. I have it paired with an XFX 6950XT and it is slaying all games at 1440P. Very happy with the set up.
Very happy to hear that actually. I probably need a stronger GPU to really take advantage of it, but at least I know I'm probably not gonna be cpu limited in a few titles I actually play.
The 5600(x) is a great chip up to (about) the 7800xt lvl of performance but the 5700x3d can extend your AM4 platform into the future with the upcoming GPU generation like the RX8000 or Battlemage B series cards while giving you better 1% lows today. I'd like to see a retest with the new cards in the near future Tech Guided! The cheap and effective 5700x3d is the main reason not to go with AM5 at least for now.
@@WalterWolf000 it’s a waste of money if buying new. After you sell your AM4 parts and buy sale AM5 parts the cost difference is like $50-100 out of pocket to go AM5. No operating system reload needed. Just uninstall all drivers first swap hardware and load the latest drivers. AM4 is great for dirt cheap used prices.
@@45eno It's a valid point that I've considered myself but the problem going forward is the CPU. The main allure for going AM5 are the new x3d chips, currently too expensive, everything else is on par with AM4 in price to performance terms. I'm not yet convinced about DDR5 being significantly better than DDR4 (I'm still looking into it, could be wrong) so ,in my world, AM5 needs to come down in price more which will happen in a couple of years. Until then the simplest, cost effective, hassle free thing to do is drop a 5700x3d into an existing AM4 motherboard and cross your fingers for the new RX8000 or Intel Battlemage B cards.
@@WalterWolf000 Well if you are open to opinions this is what I went through in 2024 (PC wise). I have 9 well rounded AM4 systems. All X570 and one B550. All with 5000 series 5600 or better. I was running a 5900X and wanted to try out a 5800X3D. I found a used one and sold my 5900X for the same price. The smoothness and 1% lows were improved certainly in my old FPS game. A guy online was talking about the best deal is not the 5800X3D but a 7600X. The more I looked into the more I realized wow I could get into the AM5 platform for basically the same price. So I did. I found a buyer for the 5800X3D and board, sold the 32gb of RAM and $40 more I had a 7600X, X670 Aorus Elite w/ 4x M2 slots and top shelf Gskill 6000MT CL30 ram. Hardware unboxed rated the 7600X as on avg 3% faster than the 5800X3D. For me moving from AM4 5800X3D for the same price range and getting into a AM5 X670 board with room to grow on the CPU was a way better use of my funds. Over the year I would find great deals like $220 7800X3D, $240 Asus B650e-e/7600x , $50 new RAM kits locally. $86 B650 Aorus Elite boards, $100 X670. When good AM5 deals came up locally I would simply prepare whatever system was getting upgraded and sell the parts. Most upgrades 5600x,5700x,5800x wtih X570 boards, 32gb of basic RAM only cost me $50-100 or so more after upgrade. Some cost me nothing. I wanted to upgrade while there was still a descent market for used AM4. I now have 8x AM5 rigs and 1x AM4 5700X3D rig. For me it's not always if it's needed but if I can recoup majority of the cost I move to the new stuff which basically recycles much of my money and keeps my systems new. I get it the 3D chips are expensive but I would spend your money on a 7600X anyday over a 5700X3D. You can get good 6000MT / CL30 32gb ram kits sometimes for $80 like one on Amazon right now. Boards can go on sale for $140 new or open box $80-120. Most of my sales prices were about $90-150 for my Zen3 CPU's, $100 for the X570 boards, $50 for 32gb DDR4 kits. If you keep your eyes open you can snag great deals and thats when I upgrade with the plan to sell my old hardware the same week to recoup cost. A little wordy, sorry.
@@tonkatoytruckfor 1440p probably another 2-3 years. For 1080p 4 years+. The Ryzen 7 2700x is still usable now for 1080p gaming and doesn’t bottleneck many mid range GPUs.
started with ryzen 5 1400 in 2017 to ryzen 5 3600 in 2021 and finally ryzen 5 5700x3d on my b350 motherboard am4 is such a good investment and the motherboard prices werent expensive on release like the am5 platform
@@jamesdm You need to read again. I was saying it's not crazy for them to be getting this video recommended after recently browsing/purchasing a 5700x3D.
I got a B450 board in 2017-2018 (whenever they came out) on Black Friday for $90. Put a 1600 on it. Then a 3600. Then a 3700x ($20 from a friend.). Recently put a 5600X in that I got used for $50. Not much of an upgrade, but will hold me for at least another year. Running a 5700XT video card which I got used for $125 a year ago. AMD did a great job w/AM4.
@@toddzino58 if you can find a used 5700x3d for like $100 then that would be a good upgrade as you can get $80 for the 5600x. Best option is to watch for used 7600-7800x3D and upgrade then. But a vanilla zen3 5600x paired with a 5700xt is a good pairing. I just upgrade when the deal appears. Like a Asus b650e-e $350 board and 7600x for $240. Turn around and sold my AM4 cpu/board for about $240.
I bought the TRAY version for the equivalent of 220 dollars, and I sold my old Ryzen 5 3600 for the equivalent of about 50 dollars, so the new one only cost me 170 dollars. In the Czech Republic, we have high prices, and the price of this processor fluctuates. A week later, the processor was already priced at almost 270 dollars, but then the price went down again, so you just need to monitor the price curve and time it to hit the reduced price. I'm happy with it; it has plenty of performance to spare.
I went from a 5800x to a 5800x3d which totally got rid of the stuttering I was suffering in MSFS (VR). The x3D chips are absolute beasts, and really help with 1% lows. I’ve only just now upgraded to the 9800x3d, and will switch out the 4090 for the 5090 once it’s released. Having a gaming son, the slightly older gear doesn’t go to waste either, and he’s happy inheriting still relevant gear. VR really stresses the systems, effectively requiring consistent 2x 4k frame generation - 1% lows are really noticeable, so anything that helps get rid of dropped frames is well worth it.
I dont have the 5700x3D I have the 5800x3D. I paired it with a 7900xt. I dont have any plans to move to AM5. AM5 Im sorry but im going to be skipping you. I think its safe to say you can say the same thing with the 5700x3D.
I do not see the AM4 X3D parts to be bottlenecking the gpus most of us are currently running. I think most of us are far more likely to upgrade our video card two or even three more times before feeling the need to to adopt AM5, AM6, or even further.
As someone who did this exact upgrade I was worried there wouldn't be much of a difference. And it's true, most games you won't see a major difference in max fps....but wow, I have no microstutters, everything runs absolutely flawless now compared to my 5600x. The 5700x3d is very worth it and pretty cheap right now. Not having to upgrade the motherboard was a win.
You have a point, experiments comparing the two chips should be done in a longer gaming sessions to see which one have less stuttering, in what games did you see improvement over your 5600x?
Assuming I get at least three years out of my 5700X3D then I will be very satisfied with sticking to AM4 - She's been great, so far, especially with an offset of -40 to all cores. Runs beautiful, Idles 33°c while air-cooled with the Thermalright Assassin, and refuses to peak over 68°c - Benchmarks over the 5800X3D and has been solid with my 7800XT. Best investment I made was going with AM4. My previous 3600 was great, as well, and paired with the Hyper 212 was sold off to a buddy, along with my previous 1070Ti which was an absolute beast for many years.
I went from a 11600k to a 5700x3d and it was a night and day difference with my 4070 super. I thought upgrading my 3060ti to a 4070 super would help my cpu but i ended up changing my platform to Am4 for 290$ 190$ for the cpu and 100$ for the mobo all new during black friday. Definitely worth it over am5 since im not planning on keeping my current build for longer than a year but didnt wanna spend too much on a totally new build
You could have bought a 7600x for $190 and a b650 for $120. Sell your old hardware to cover the ram cost. The 7600x is faster on avg than the 5800x3D and has better IPC than zen3 and clock speed is 1400mhz faster than a 5700x3D. I own both. Crazy to pay $290 on AM4 when Am5 was the same price. 😢
I would advise AGAINST going from a 10th gen or newer Intel to AM4, despite the x3D chips greatness. If you're doing an entire platform change, get AM5. You won't be able to upgrade from the 5700x3D but you can from say a 7500F that will net you similar performance. The x3D chips are great for people ALREADY on AM4, not for new builds.
@@45enoI have 128gb of ddr4 plus cause I do alot of editing and the price of ddr5 alone my parts would not have sold for. Also i would need another cooler. Plus my old parts wouldnt have been sold and im giving them to my wife. Plus I was able to reuse all of my parts, and the mobo I got was better than any budget b650. It just wasnt worth going to am5
@ Yep we all have our own situations. That 128gb ram requirement would be a bit harder to replace on the cheap. My B650 Aorus Elites were all better than any of my x570 boards. 3x PCIe 4.0 M2 slots. Beefy VRM’s and only paid $86 each for them. Sold my x570 boards for $100-120 each. Most AM4 coolers work fine on AM5. All 8 of my Noctua coolers I had on AM4 worked perfectly on AM5.
I just found a 5700x3D used for $140. It replaced a 5700x that I sold for $120 a week later. Paired with a 3060ti on 1080p 180hz. Makes for a great shop pc to stream or game on.
@ I don’t really game a bunch out in the garage so it’s hard to say. For $20 I didn’t care and I also knew when it came time to sell it the 3D part will hold the value much better. I did compare a 5800x,5900x and 5800x3D a year earlier and the 3D was on an entirely different level of performance that the non 3D chips couldn’t touch. So I would guess the same results with the 5700x/3D but I don’t game a ton out in the garage so I won’t notice the 1% lows as much unless I swapped back to the 5700x. I am a sold believer on the x3D parts even with midranges GPU because of the frame time / pacing / 1% low improvements.
Going from a 5600X to the 5700X3D, I noticed the temps going up more than I had expected. Did some research and did the -30 undervolt in my BIOS and I am getting at least the same performance at much lower (10-15C) temps and lower power as well. I did the upgrade at the same time as upgrading my 3080 to a 4080 Super so I am not able to test the CPU upgrade alone. Overall it seems like a solid upgrade for the price, particularly when going up against the 5800X3D.
Yeah. The 5% performance difference is not worth the premium of the 5800X3D, for most of us. Most AM4 owners have learned how to make the most of this platform.
Note the wattage of the 5700x3D in comparison to the 5600x. While the performance increase isn't substantial most of the time, the power consumption, cpu usage and heat production shrank considerably. This is a plus. A definitive plus, because you fare better with the same (or slightly better-) performance, but use less power to do that.
I upgraded my PC from a 1800X (built in 2017) to the 5700X3D while still using my EVGA 1080 Ti SC2 Hybrid GPU. Before the upgrade, I never saw the GPU hit 100% utilization-it just shows how ahead of its time the 1080 Ti was. With the 5700X3D, it's finally running at full capacity now!
Very useful real world testing, thank you! Also these slightly older CPUs like R5 5600x are better paired with Radeon GPUs due to the more efficient drivers.
Another thing to consider is whether the system you have is either CPU bound or GPU Bound With the 7800XT, many games at 1440p run rather well, but if you were to use a higher end GPU or play at a lower target resolution, the CPU becomes more of a factor in how much you can get out of the GPU. It's not the be all end all if you can still get good performance, but if you're asking for as much performance as possible on AM4 gaming wise, it's worth the look
Did a similar test with the addition of a 5700X and used a 4070 TI Super. Where the X3D part is locked, the 5700x is unlocked and can be tuned in the Adrenalin Software. The 5700x is a good upgrade from a 3600x or similar CPU and is around $100 cheaper than the X3D part.
Brother, when you compare CPUs you MUST, HAVE TO, NEED TO show the graph because the most important thing between those two CPUs is the 1% low which is the consistency or the smoothness of the game, which is better to feel it than to see a number for it, because people might think that a 10-40% difference in the 1% lows is not that big of deal Im in middle of the video and until now you started talking about the 1% lows and I believe that most people whose watching this won't complete the video to the end so you should clarify whats the main difference between CPUs are from the beginning so people know where to spot the difference And thanks for the video
Yeah, I probably should have emphasized the importance of the 1% low performance in the intro. The 1% lows are in the graphs, but I think I need to rethink how I show the graphs as it might be too small for some people to read. Maybe split it between showing the gameplay with the overlay and then switching to a full screen view of the graph. In any case, thank you for the feedback and will rethink how I present it for the next video.
Thank you for comparing more than just ultra settings. Also thank you for comparing 1440p. It is frustrating when all you see are 1080p ultra settings in benchmarks when very few people play that way. I feel that your format is much more useful for practical comparison.
Upgraded my sisters computer from a 2700X and the difference is massive in gaming. Now I'm waiting to see the price for the Radeon 8600 XT, and she will have a decent budget gaming computer.
Thanks for this comparison, i was surprised when i did the same upgrade like u, that i did not see a major difference, mainly in FPS single player games.
I am in the same boat. I have a 5600x in my rig now and there is a 5700x3D in a box sitting next to the rig. But I also have a 7900 xt also sitting in a box. I am of the opinion that the 7900 xt will bottle neck the 5600x even at 1440, maybe not at 4k though as that is where the limit of the GPU will start to kick in.
The 5600x has served me well. I decided a long time ago it was pointless to upgrade and waste money at 1440p the experience is close. That money is better to go to a new platform.
The 5700X3D is fastest in 1440p if you plan to use ultra setting with DLSS and some RT. I was having the same doubt but I made the upgrade and also is wayyyy smoother.
@@jamesdm at 1440o the 5600x and 5700x3d are so close if you wanted a "smoother" experience it would be wise to save and purchase a AM5 build. The 5700X3D is still memory constrained with ddr4 vs something like a 7600x with ddr5. Not too mention better clocks, pcie 5 support and better performance for things like raytracing and dlss. BUT hey if you thought your 5600x > 5700X3D was worth a 200.00usd upgrade @1440p. More power too ya.
Great video! This is exactly what I have experienced coming from 5600x to 5700x3d. It's definitely not worth it for everyone, but if you're already on AM4 and want as good as you can get of an upgrade the 3d chips are where it's at. 5600x (or 5700x when comparably priced) is great for its price and "most" people should probably go with that and put the extra money into a better GPU.
The 5700X3D was much more of a massive upgrade for my 5600 than the 2600 was over my FX-8350. Virtual Reality and Final Fantasy XIV chomp that cache up.
Nice video, many may be considering. This cpu becomes dirt cheap, saw it for 170 Euros recenty! Its relatively clear that for people playing single player games, they should rather look into better gpus. As you mentioned, that thing is meant for competitive players, maybe with higher than 240Hz monitors. When you test games with lowest presets, that might be an indication how strong the 3D cache is, since cpu load is massive then.
just upgraded from 2700x which i got when it launched to 5700x3d. paid a third less for this new solid cpu and am getting twice the performance. best bet to stretch that am4 build just a few more years (2-4 more years).
I got my 5600 pretty cheap Aug 2023, with a decent cooler it can do 4600 + CO and that works well. I had it with a 2060 super then got a 4070 mid this year. For 7800xt/4070 at 1440p or 4060ti/6700xt at 1080p it works very well, just a small percentage of games with a bit of bottleneck. Where I live 5700x3d is 2.15x more expensive than the 5600/5600x and 1.56x than the 5700x. If I were to buy right now it would be a tough decision, since the 4070 I just bought it and don't plan to change it in 4 years and the 5600 gets the job done at 1440p. If I get it for cheap later on might bite, but probably next upgrade will be new PC
I think the real takeaway in most of these benchmarks is how the X3D part can get the GPU running at close to 100% while the CPU is running 15 to 20% lower than the 5600X usage. That's the key difference.
I have a 6750 XT and a 5600. I play games like CPU heavy games like Rust and other games like RDR2 at 1440p and am not super happy with the performance. Would you recommend me upgrading to the 5700x3d or just go AM5 with a new MOBO/Ram/CPU like a 7600 or something?
i did the same upgrade and had amazing performance boost in PUBG , also i did get the 5700X3D for 129$ on Aliexpress 6 months ago so i'm happy ! the only issue i'm afraid of is the emulator performance as the 5700X3D will only boost to 4050mhz max with undervolt.
Another good argument for upgrading to 5700x3d is getting it now, while it's still being sold, for a good price. Because It has the headroom for future GPUs. It can handle RTX 4090 performance.
That was exactly the video I was searching for! I have a 5600x and was wondering if I upgrade to the 5700x3D or wait save up and juste change to AM5 completly. I think with this video I’ll stick to the 5600x for now even tho the 1% is better with the 5700x3D Thank you for your videos
If you wanna a real uplift performance go AM5, I have no regret from ryzen 5600x to 7900 non x all gaming PC or emulation (AVX-512 instructions set give a huge bust to modern emulation). On PC side better frames more stable at all. It can handle any gpu you put on it.
Depends on which GPU you are using.. Iam using an RTX3070 8GB.. And for my advice was not to upgrade to x3d because iam already running an R7 5700x cpu. It makes more sense when using an RX 7800xt or higher gpu.
planing exactly this upgrade. 3080ti gpu on 2k 144hz monitor. but playing only witcher and doom and some rts games. so i guess ill wait 2 more years then go to am6
The question is how much of the extra performance comes from 2 additional cores. I went from 2600X to 5700X after launch and with my 6800 non XT i don't see the reason to go for a 5700X3D. When AMD launched 5700X and 5800X3D the latter was 2x the cost where I live. If I knew there will be a 5700X3D i would have gone to a used 3600(X) and then 5700X3D. At this moment I don't see the reason to go to 5700X3D especially with a X470 motherboard. With a PCIe 3.0 i could not go for a RX 6600XT (i changed from RX 590). I wanted to go with a RX 6700(XT) since it was the lowest card with PCIe x16 and 10(12) GB of VRAM. I had a good deal for a used RX 6800 non XT (with 2 year warranty!) for the price of a new RX 6700 XT. It turned out a good choice because an RX 6800 is now the lowest tier card that allows good enough FPS with UE5 games. The system should keep me going until the next gen consoles arrive. An 5700X3D would allow one more GPU upgrade.... but I would have to swap the motherboard to a used cheap B550 motherboard to have PCIe 4.0 and the choice to go for a mid range GPU with a x8 PCIe bus. No way I would again go for the upper tier cards with the prices and the amount of time I game (4-5 games a year maybe). From what I've observed with AM4 pricing I probably with get an AM5 system when AM6 launches :D The price/performace is better with old tech always. That is if I won't stop gaming altogether. I'm 40 next year and each year I have less and less time for this :)
Are you running 24.10.1 or 24.12.1: ANYWAYS, big support man, you Saved me MONEY by doing this comparison, I own a 5800x non 3d chip, and Honestly for a guy that paid $350 two weeks after it got released, that was 4 years ago XD holy moly. Last month I got myself the RX 7800 XT NITRO, I wanted a NITRO Card since the 5700XT Came out, I think this GAMING thing is like GAMBLING I NEED HELP, NO MORE UPGRADES until 2028.
I looked into this and wasn’t going to bother. The difference between a 5700x and a 5700x3d just isn’t worth it. The real upgrade is just max the AM4 with the a 5900xt or 5950x
be interesting to see a non-x3d chip like the 5950x, 5900x, or 5800x. then would be able to see if its the extra core making the different, or the extra cache making the difference.
The 5700X3D is a great *upgrade* but it's not that good for new builds. Also don't forget to people who want 4K gaming on Am4, the 5800X will get the same FPS while having way better productivity while still being sold brand new. So honestly the 5700X3D is good for an AM4 upgrade that is still on 1080p but nothing else

Seems some of yall missed the 5800x3D prices when they were below 300 last year. Got mine for 280.Now their back up to 459.
I went from a 5600x (Great cpu for the money) to 5800x3d. I noticed an almost undescribable difference in "smoothness" in gaming and even desktop tasks with the 5800x3d, it "feels better". Maybe it's the extra cores, I don't know.
Placebo effect. The money to upgrade from a 5600x to 5800x3d or 5700x3d would be better going into a am5 build. If you paid another $350 for a slightly faster chip and you feel good about it. That's nice I guess.
@@dakbassett it's not a placebo you donut. Also what a stupid take. It's not worth going to am5 if he's already on am4 + tight budget. Am5 would cost him at least $500 including some cheap shit mobo, and basic 6000 CL30 32GB memory. And he still probably wouldn't have enough left to get any am5 x3d. Clown. 🤡
the 5700X3D isn't really that great but its price is. I've recently upgraded from a 5600 and for my use case scenario it's just a slight improvement. I'm only using a 6600xt. The 5600 overclocks very well across all cores while maintaining low power consumption. The 5700X3D on the other hand has two more cores but with much lower clock speed. Anyway AM4 is insane, I joined half way in 2020 yet I gained so much value from it started with 3100 - 5600 - 5700X3D. Those started in 2017/2018 are golden
I got a good ol Ryzen 7 1700 on a b450 aorus pro board finally upgraded to 5700x3d two days back the performance bump has been massive the only game i play for now is Fortnite n im getting 500+ fps on performance mode to my usual barely 120-160 sometimes 90 in my Gtx 1070
Agreed, I really need to mix in some MMOs and competitive shooters into the games I test, but those style games are harder to get consistent benchmarks on.
a lot of MMOs are where you'll see X3D cpus really shine. its actually a game changer for towns, raids and pvp scenarios where your screen is littered by players, summons and effects.
FFXIV is ridiculously smooth on my old faithful 5800X3D + 3080Ti living room gaming rig. I wish there was a 5900X3D or 5950X3D so I could squeeze some more life out of my main rig and gain the gaming performance benefits that X3D chips bring.
Upgrading my PC, I got a GTX 1660 and Ryzen 5 2600. Im 100% sure it’s going to be a night and day difference however I’m still wondering what type of GPU to use with it for upgrading
The performance gains will be more apparent with newly released games that haven't been optimised well (unfortunately this is the current trend). So if you plan to play new games 3dV cache is the way. ❤️
Worth noting that the differences are likely to be a bit bigger if you have an similar nvidia card eg the 3080, as they place more load on the cpu than AMD cards do.
@@IrnMaiden304 You're correct: I've seen many of the 5700x3D adverts come without a bundled CPU cooler so I'm just trying to see things from these newer PC builders' shoes.
@@Hushoo Gotcha, but anything above a 5600 / 5600X doesn't come with a cooler so that would suggest there's a reason AMD doesn't offer the wraith with them, so one would assume that if they don't offer / recommend those with it, than why would they with an even hotter CPU. Not trying to be a d!(K, just thought that was a bit too obvious.
Is it worth it to go from 5800x to 5700x3d? I run a 7900xt and play on 1440p. I'm tempted to just gain the extra 15-20% by going 5700x3d, but I'm also tempted to just save up and go all out on AM5 platform.
I recently was rocking an rx 6700 xt paired with a r5 5600 and the other day I saw a big discount on a rx7900xtx and I snagged it for 600€ And I was thinking, since the xtx is like 10-20% more powerful than the xt version, would it be worth it in my case to upgrade?
The 5800X3D (if you can find it) it's too expensive for 8% max of performance compared with the 5700X3D that are the same chip bassically but with a lower clock.
Yes, I originally had a dual-fan, single-tower PC specialist air cooler that came with my pre-built system, which I used initially with no issues (other than it being noisier than I desired). I switched to a Shadow Rock 3, which is whisper-quiet and performs slightly better. It idles at around 30 degrees Celsius, and while gaming on demanding titles, I've never seen it exceed 60 degrees Celsius; it normally hovers around 50, give or take. The old one had similar performance but was noisier with its two bargain fans buuuring. The point is, it's not difficult to cool. (both were/are 5 pipe btw)
Yeah, absolutely, I just did a video where I tested a few budget-oriented coolers on the 5600X and 5700X3D and the 5700X3D did very well on the Thermalright Burst Assassin 120 (6 heat pipes) and even did well enough on the smaller ID-COOLING SE-903-XT (3 heat pipes).
You never compare cpus when there's a gpu bottleneck and especially in multiple scenarios like in this video. Gpus must never hit the 99% threshold on cpu performance benchmark. Mindlessly max-ing all settings or in a sense when the gpu reaches 99% usage, it will bottleneck (I'm confidential you are aware of).You can compare a 9800x3d vs a 5700x3d like in this video and get the same results. Pointless. For example in tomb raider, the difference between those cpus is massive which can lead up to 50% difference.
Ppl like to talk about REAL testing cpu performance, then why dont u refer to cpu benchmark tool result? Because we want realistic ingame setting performance most user actually using while playing 3a games as well. We dont need dumb benchmark for competitive fps games like Fortnite and cs2
@shionuzuki3904 That's the point it's not real benchmark either. Some settings are useless and provide negligible picture quality at the cost of taxing the gpu heavily. Having mixed settings will help the gpu the most, while giving more space to the cpu without sacrificing much of the image quality. Secondly nowdays AAA titles are being played with dlss or fsr. If ur cpu is weak already and close to bottleneck, you won't gain much performance either. Moreover many benchmarks can be misleading. Those tests are mostly being done in open areas, where not many npcs or players are present, resulting in the gpu doing higher workloads. Lastly, in cpu intensive games you will notice the opposite results.
Sad that I am on a lga 1700 with 12400f :( and switching to am4 seems useless (used market value is also almost non existent in my place as they still sell it at a high price despite being used)
Maybe look at the 12600? I have AM4 with a 5600X, with the same GPU, my son's 12600K kicks ace in gaming. Both systems are running DDR4. Just my two cents.
@@GB-zi6qr idk if that's worth imo, but I've been looking at 12700k as it sometimes goes on sale for cheap on amazon. But I'll probably just save for the new upcoming platforms as the 12400f still does me good.
I made the upgrade from the 5600x to th 5700X3D (impossible to get the 5800X3d to a good price) and this is a good video BUT If you play at 1440p high / ultra setting with a Nvidia card (In my case a 4070 ti) the difference is bigger if you use DLSS and or RT. So If you have a good MOBO like my case (x570 premium) go for it. The AM5 mobos are still too expensive.
starfield is a gpu bound game... try it with a arc a770 and 5700x3d and you will be struggling with it like i was at around 50 fps or below no matter what settings.. now iv got my tuf gaming rx7800xt 16gb im riding them frames easy at high settings...
Yeah I have that set up 5600x and a 7800xt, and I just can't see the benefit of going to the 5700x3d. I have a 32" 1440p display so the difference is not going to be much. Its also hard when the 7600 and 7600x are so cheap.
@@mikem9267 Yeah, if you find a used one close to what you can sell the 5600x then I would for sure. All my AM4 builds (8) except one were sold off for AM5. I wanted to sell the very nice x570, 5600 or better setups while the market was still hot for AM4. I snagged amazing AM5 deals and most of them were very low out of pocket. I would just watch local ads and when you find a killer deal just buy it and part out the AM4 stuff. I bought a sealed 7600 for $150 and new 7800x3D for $220. Lots of deals out there.
real 5700x3d "problem" is that 4.05 boost limit. 5800x3d was amazing due to 3dvcache without losing all that clock speed (max 4.4) If you compare a 4.6 5700x vs 4.05 5700x3d there will be even less differences
Adopting the AM4 platform back in 2018 was the best gaming PC decision I ever made. Went from a 2400G to a 5600X3D on the same motherboard for $160usd.
Im building a new pc should I go old am4 or am5?
@@user-gq3eq5bf9tam5 he was on am4 already. Go for a 7500f from ali if you need something very cheap.
@@user-gq3eq5bf9t I would go with AM5 if you are building new. The only way I would build an AM4 platform would be if I was on a VERY tight budget.
@@user-gq3eq5bf9t depends on your budget but defo try to go am5 since that is more futureproof
Great video card too.
I managed to get the 5700x3d from a guy for 80 euros, and sold my Ryzen 7 2700 for 50 euros. Best 30€ I ever spent.
Very happy to hear that actually. I probably need a stronger GPU to really take advantage of it, but at least I know I'm probably not gonna be cpu limited in a few titles I actually play.
what were the fps on fortnite before and after? and what gpu and setting
Just upgraded from a 5600x myself. Paired with a 4070 at 1440p this chip is a beast!
I'm on an RX 6800 and even that can create some bottlenecks with the 5600.

@@45eno Oh shut up 🙄
I would advise AGAINST going from a 10th gen or newer Intel to AM4, despite the x3D chips greatness. If you're doing an entire platform change, get AM5. You won't be able to upgrade from the 5700x3D but you can from say a 7500F that will net you similar performance.
The x3D chips are great for people ALREADY on AM4, not for new builds.

Was it really that much better ?
Most AM4 owners have learned how to make the most of this platform.
it lessened the CPU utilization by a wide margin. this is a good upgrade.
You really know how to get the most out of your investment.
@ can’t argue with that. Debating on how long I want to stick with the 1080ti now.
@@MeettheStroopsyou could probably skip the rtx 5000 series and the rx 9000 series. 1080ti is such a beast.
Very useful real world testing, thank you!
Also these slightly older CPUs like R5 5600x are better paired with Radeon GPUs due to the more efficient drivers.
Another thing to consider is whether the system you have is either CPU bound or GPU Bound
With the 7800XT, many games at 1440p run rather well, but if you were to use a higher end GPU or play at a lower target resolution, the CPU becomes more of a factor in how much you can get out of the GPU.
AMD has done a great job providing a cpu for every price point.
The 5700X has had some killer deals in the USA lately! Hard to recommend the 5600X over that.
Brother, when you compare CPUs you MUST, HAVE TO, NEED TO show the graph because the most important thing between those two CPUs is the 1% low which is the consistency or the smoothness of the game, which is better to feel it than to see a number for it, because people might think that a 10-40% difference in the 1% lows is not that big of deal
Im in middle of the video and until now you started talking about the 1% lows and I believe that most people whose watching this won't complete the video to the end so you should clarify whats the main difference between CPUs are from the beginning so people know where to spot the difference
And thanks for the video
I went from a 3700x to a 5800X3D. It was worth it. The chip cost me $300 so I didn't pay full retail for the thing.
It's worth adding The Riftbreaker to measure CPU performance. The difference is quite stark when comparing Vcache vs regular chips.
Thanks for the heads up on The Riftbreaker, I'll see if I can work it into future benchmarks.
I currently have the 5600 and considering upgrading to 5700X3D. The 0.1% lows is what matters.
love this combo its the one i got
I am in the same boat. I have a 5600x in my rig now and there is a 5700x3D in a box sitting next to the rig. But I also have a 7900 xt also sitting in a box. I am of the opinion that the 7900 xt will bottle neck the 5600x even at 1440, maybe not at 4k though as that is where the limit of the GPU will start to kick in.
Yeah, there are definitely some games where the 5600X is going to hold back the 7900 XT at 1440P. Your 5700X3D will give you a boost there.
I’ve been waiting for someone to try this exact thing. Thank you! I subscribed
Have one on the way to replace a lowly 3600. Can't bloody wait!
The 5600x has served me well. I decided a long time ago it was pointless to upgrade and waste money at 1440p the experience is close. That money is better to go to a new platform.
My 5600X runs 24/7. My elderly mother streams the entire time while she is bed ridden. Idles along at 28 C with a 360 AIO. Quiet too! Great CPU.
Upgrading from a Ryzen 7 3700X to the 5700X3D to pair with my 3070. I am bloody excited!
I think the real takeaway in most of these benchmarks is how the X3D part can get the GPU running at close to 100% while the CPU is running 15 to 20% lower than the 5600X usage. That's the key difference.
Coming from a 4770k this thing is a beast!
Thanks for making this video, gives tech challenged folks like me a better understanding.
You're welcome! Glad you found it helpful.
Thanks for the video
Another good argument for upgrading to 5700x3d is getting it now, while it's still being sold, for a good price. Because It has the headroom for future GPUs. It can handle RTX 4090 performance.
That was exactly the video I was searching for!
I have a 5600x and was wondering if I upgrade to the 5700x3D or wait save up and juste change to AM5 completly.
I think with this video I’ll stick to the 5600x for now even tho the 1% is better with the 5700x3D
Thank you for your videos
You can always do it later when prices drop even ore.
Its worth it, trust me, i changed from exact 5600x to 7 5700x3d, the improvements are really good, It increases my fps by ton, even when im on 1440p
@ i use an rtx 3060 so Even more reason to not upgrade right now I feel
planing exactly this upgrade.
Simple, Yes. Do it. Amazing upgrade even going from my 5600x, its incredible.
I looked into this and wasn’t going to bother. The difference between a 5700x and a 5700x3d just isn’t worth it. The real upgrade is just max the AM4 with the a 5900xt or 5950x
I just went for it, from a 5600x. I still have a 3070ti. I will probably upgrade to something a bit more beefy soon, and camp on am4 a while longer.
be interesting to see a non-x3d chip like the 5950x, 5900x, or 5800x. then would be able to see if its the extra core making the different, or the extra cache making the difference.
Cache.
Great idea for a future video, thank you!
It's out of production, go figure...
I had 5800x3d for around 300ish euros in Germany. But 5700x3d was like 170 euros, so I went with 5700x3d.
What I’m looking for now is an MMO benchmark and how those type of games are impacted by the 3D cache
Rtx 4070 or Rx 7800xt for 1440p. If for 1080p then go for Rx 7600xt or rtx 3060.
The performance gains will be more apparent with newly released games that haven't been optimised well (unfortunately this is the current trend). So if you plan to play new games 3dV cache is the way. ❤️
If you have a Micro Center near you the 5700X3D is on sale for $180. That's a bargain for a great CPU.
I just saw that and was coming to say it!
I got the 5700x3d on Ali Express for $125, worth the upgrade for me and my games.
Worth noting that the differences are likely to be a bit bigger if you have an similar nvidia card eg the 3080, as they place more load on the cpu than AMD cards do.
I need to see this comparison but for VR. With a middling GPU like a 3070
I wonder if the Wraith Stealth cooler that comes with the older AM4 CPUs people are upgrading from can be transferred over to the 5700x3D.
Don't the X3D CPU's run hotter ? .... Not sure that would be worth it.
Will I get similar improvement with RX 6600?
Is it worth it to go from 5800x to 5700x3d? I run a 7900xt and play on 1440p. I'm tempted to just gain the extra 15-20% by going 5700x3d, but I'm also tempted to just save up and go all out on AM5 platform.
I would say it's worth it if you can sell your 5800x.
5700x3d doubled my fps on alot of games. 2060 super still going strong now
I recently was rocking an rx 6700 xt paired with a r5 5600 and the other day I saw a big discount on a rx7900xtx and I snagged it for 600€
And I was thinking, since the xtx is like 10-20% more powerful than the xt version, would it be worth it in my case to upgrade?
for sure. You should go for the 5700x3d. 5600 will leave performance on the table with that 7900xtx.
Would this be a big upgrade from the Ryzen 9 3950x?
I’m wanting to swap the exact same cpus as I just got a 4070tis and want more use out of my x570 mobo. It sounds like this card needs that L3 cache.
It totally worth it new it's under £200 in the UK.
just bought a 5600 for my new AM4 system, i think it's quite great for literally any GPU
a 5700x3d would be an overkill for me haha
Just got and r7 5800x i came from a r5 2400g. What gpu should i get?
Originally I was going to get a 5800x/5700x to replace my 3700x cause the 5800x3d was a bit much, but I think the 5700x3d is worth the upgrade now.
Go for it.
Upgraded my 2700X to this and I get absolutely zero stutters now and CSGO2 went from 150fps to 350fps average on the same card (2070S).
Are you playing on stock settings? Or did you undervolt the CPU?
@ undervolted all cores -30 but on stock it ran the same just now it’s MUCH cooler. Idle temps are 32 average when it was sitting about 55 before.
Bad graphs to use for people watching on their phone. Yeah even trying 1080p I can’t read the results on the graphs on a iPhone 16 Pro.
noooo
@ yessss?
i cant see them on 4k dell 31,5' they are terrible
pinch to zoom
Thanks for the feedback. I'll alter it for future videos to show the full-size graphs in future benchmark videos.
I have the 5700X paired with RX6800🤔
Don't made the change. You need a more powerfull gpu.
Can you do a 7600x3d review vs 7600x please
Love this REALITY benchmarks, while other use 4090 that only 1% people can buy it
Hi! I am Thinking to upgrade to 5950x Or 5800x3D which one should i go for ? is it worth it ?
For gaming, the 5800x3d. For production, the 5950x. Not very many people will use their computers in ways to come close to benefiting the 5950x.
The 5800X3D (if you can find it) it's too expensive for 8% max of performance compared with the 5700X3D that are the same chip bassically but with a lower clock.
Can a single tower air cooler (4 to 6 copper pipes) handle this cpu? I am planning to change my R5-5600 to this 5700X3D.
@@silverplayer7502 all good. The hard part is deciding whether or not to upgrade.
thank you
I made the upgrade from the 5600x to th 5700X3D (impossible to get the 5800X3d to a good price) and this is a good video BUT If you play at 1440p high / ultra setting with a Nvidia card (In my case a 4070 ti) the difference is bigger if you use DLSS and or RT.
My 5800x is still rocking steady
For gaming, it is smarter to invest in a better GPU than in a CPU from the same generation.
Depends on the games you play, but putting more into your GPU is typically better for gaming use-cases.
I just upgraded from a 3700x to the 5700x3d and the difference is night and day.
5900x does the job just fine
Isn't the rx 7800xt high end?
Yeah I suppose you could put it in that category. Either lower high-end or upper mid-range depending on how you view it.
No. It's mid range. 7900XT and XTX are high end.
@ wasn‘t a 500$ graphics card high end back in 2018-2019? What happened? And if it is mid range, it‘s on the higher mid range rank
you need to find cpu bound games in order to determine what cpu is better..
Yes it is.
real 5700x3d "problem" is that 4.05 boost limit. 5800x3d was amazing due to 3dvcache without losing all that clock speed (max 4.4)
If you compare a 4.6 5700x vs 4.05 5700x3d there will be even less differences
Nha. The difference is less that 7% within the two this.
And the 5700X3D is fastest that the 5700X even more if you use DLSS and RT.
on warzone i gained 60% preformance boost with the same setup....
Damn, that's big!
Why is your 5700X3D only boosting to 4.025 GHz my 5600X3D locks in @ 4.450 GHz
@baronvonslambert yeah but so was my 5600X3D Granted I do undervolt it and that helps it performance and temps
5700X3D max frequency is 4.1 GHz look it up. Boosting to only 4025MHz or 4050MHz is to be expected.
