      @@davidnott_ 100% this. Thanks for making videos with real settings people will actually play at. Nobody cares about the difference between 500fps vs 600fps at 1080p minimum settings, it's literally worthless data. The 80fps vs 70fps on ultra maxed settings with RT are where people will actually try and play. If that means the diff between a $100 CPU vs a $300 CPU are negligible, that's still far more useful than the meaningless numbers other channels put out.

      I had my 5600X for years, got a 4090 last year, recently got a 5700X3D because the experience was disappointing (even at 4K). In games like: Cyberpunk, Witcher 3, Dragon's Dogma 2, Ghostwire Tokyo, Spiderman, Watch Dogs Legion, Hogwarts Legacy, even non RT, but infamously demanding games from the recent past like Deus Ex Mankind Divided and Dishonored 2; the difference is night and day.

    0:36 Need to overclock that 5800X3D at 1.28V and 4500MHz. The auto overclock leaves a lot to be desired. I don't think there are CPU's on the market that can push these GPU's to their limits in low 1080P. I've tried explaining this to people. Don't buy 4000 series if you want 1080p or even 1440p, and the burden only gets worse when you turn on DLSS and Framegen.
    I've honestly been suggesting people pick up a 3090 since the 24GB of vram will keep its value and just enjoy themselves for 550 dollars, resell it when you're ready for like 300-350. There you go, you just spent about 200 dollars instead of losing 5-600$.

    The rule of thumb is, the lower the resolution you play at, while chasing high fps, the more a CPU will bottleneck a GPU. If you're a 1080p gamer and want super high fps like 240 or something depending on your monitor, then you'll notice a big difference with upgrading your CPU if you already have a mid to high end GPU like a 4070 at least. If you're gaming at 2K resolution and aim for lower fps like 150-ish, then you'll notice some improvement when upgrading a CPU. If you're gaming on 4K like me, and your aim at single player games is "as long as it feels perfectly smooth I'm happy", which is anything above 70-80 stable fps, and in multiplayer games you're aiming at 144fps for a 144hz refresh rate, then you really won't feel much difference in CPU upgrades, as long as your CPU is not really horrible. At 4K, you're GPU bound, and a CPU bottleneck as such stops existing. There's literally a couple of fps between a R5 5500 and a 5700X3D, I know because I made that jump. The only significant boost was not in average or peak fps, but in lowest 1% fps, basically the occasional (very, very rare) micro-stutter in some games doesn't happen anymore. Point being, don't spend money on a more expensive MBO and CPU, buy a more expensive GPU.

    The industry standard for reviewing CPUs for gaming is so ridiculous, it made me think I need to upgrade my CPU to be able to enjoy games at 4k. I am looking to buy a 4k display and the price on 5800x3d is going up at the moment (if I can even find it). Watching your video helped me realize that I can use the whole budget towards the display, so many thanks for that! 😁

    • @jondySauce
      @jondySauce 27 днів тому

      CPU's are generally reviewed to show relative performance between each other. They are tested at 1080p for the most part because if the GPU is a bottleneck (as it would be at 4k), it doesn't show the true performance of the CPU.

    • @knockturnall
      @knockturnall 27 днів тому

      @jondySauce I understand that... I also understand that testing at 1440p and 4k would effectively triple the time it takes to test every CPU, and it's just not worth the trouble for reviewers.
      But as more and more people are moving towards these resolutions, they should at least test 2-3 games, which are known to be CPU intensive, and another 2-3 which are GPU intensive, all at 1440p and 4k, to show if an upgrade is worth the money at those resolutions.
      Seeing is believing, and it's ridiculous that people like me (casual gamers, who mostly play single-player games and want, for the most part, an immersive experience) have to watch hours of testing at 1080p from reputable reviewers and not find even a mention of performance at 4k. Then I have to go on an internet rabbit hole on various forums, where I will see no data and a lot of 'trust me, bro' comments.
      It's also hilarious how reputable reviewers have started to do 1440p and 4k testing, but in a spiteful way. They will show the data and complain about viewers not understanding the logic behind their methodology at every step, while the truth is that gamers like me, for the most part, want to make sure that a CPU upgrade would actually improve their experience.
      I guess that sooner or later, they will see their 1080p testing videos will start to not get as many views as before and will have to adjust their methodology accordingly.

    • @starstreamgamer3704

      True. And not only with B-dies. Well tuned E-dies are not that much slower, as well as modern RAM with 3600MHz/CL16 XMP (based on Hynix D-die, for example). Most of these kits can easily achieve 3800MHz/CL16.
      Plus, with non-3D CPUs you can use Curve Optimizer and raise core clock by 200MHz, which brings another 2-3% bump.

I use custom graphics settings, so it’s not 100% the same, but my 4070 TI Super is choking at 97% at 1440 when I crank the ray tracing up, and your 4080 Super still has some air to breathe.

    i'm always curious as to the decision to include titles like "starfield" and "gray zone warfare" in a test like this, as both seem to be relatively unoptimized - especially in regards to cpu performance. it almost feels like you are testing the game's performance more than the performance of the cpu in-game, if that makes any sense. i know starfield has received some updates to help with this, but it still seems like typical "bethesda optimization." games like fh5, cs2, & cp2077 make more sense to me since they tend to utilize given resources in a more predictable - and often consistently scalable - manor. other than showing real-world application for sake of user expectation, is there any benefit in a cpu test to use those two specific games, or am i missing something (which is absolutely possible)?

    Im confused...on Gray Zone 1080 EPIC, you said the CPU was having an impact on the 5600X meaning that it might be bottlenecking the GPU, if that were true wouldnt the CPU be at 100% the whole time? Normally if the CPU AND GPU are not reaching 100% this means they are well paired doesnt it?

Wondering if upgrading to a 5900x could be an option to remain on AM4 🤷

    My gpu stays on 70-80 percent cuz I play with dlss ON (performance mode) but my cpu stays on 65-70 % sometimes, it is normally on 40-50% but
    I play with tons of mods and there are so many demons and action on the screen that my cpu reaches 70% usage sometimes, would you

    I switched from a 5600X to a 5700X3D, I have a 4090 driving a 4K display
    It's a massive difference in terms of how smooth the game runs, particularly games with ray tracing, the frame times are much more stable and in some games gpu usage has went from 50-70% to a stable 90+%. Cyberpunk, Ghostwire Tokyo, Witcher 3, Spiderman all lost the jarring frame time spikes that I had with the 5600X.
    You can see it's the same story with the 4080 Super in your test, a 1% low of 57 vs 72 is honestly a massive difference. a drop to sub 60 from an average of 80ish is quite bad.

    great video. tried something similar with the 4070 super and a r5 5600 and r5 7500f just to answer if am4 is kind of dead but for my surprise, its not, its still a good gaming cpu and i would have no problem to pair it with an 4070 super. sure the numbers tell a differenz story but the first runs ive done ive expierenced no difference, testet just a few games, ac:o, fortnite, diablo 4, cyberpunk and baldurs gate. the difference was seen in numbers but not how it feels. and the numbers are not that big, this is where preferences kick in. i like the am5 plattform for its good featureset. many b650 boards has 3 nvme slots so u can do a much cleaner build and off course u has some upgrade path.
    as zen was released ages ago, i jump on it with an r7 1700x switches from a i5 7600k. i used it until the 5000 cpus came out and was blowing away that u can rly feel a difference just bought the 5600 and it holds on, on a testing system. i hope this will happen with am5 i just hold on the 7500f until the next release, so i skip the 9000 series and see whats the deal with the next gen.
