I Love playing around with old PC hardware and am4 is looking like it's going to be the new goat of CPU generations.
I've been playing around with amd system's since the AM2 Athlon x2 era, and for what it's worth each generation before and after until Ryzen 3k has lagged behind Intel.
When I had been using my athlon x2 4200+ it handily outperformed the comparative Intel pentiums.
Moving forward I have a soft spot for the try hard FX am3+ system's because of their versatility over comparable Intel early i series CPU.
While they were not as good at running in windows 10 as well as the the 2nd Gen I series at first, at this time the FX 6300 and 8350 do work better than 2nd Gen i series CPU now.
The first gen am3 FX 6100, 8100's run on par between the 2nd and 3rd Gen i series CPU, the 6300, 8350 am3+ goes toe to toe, blow for blow with 4th Gen i series CPU, beating and getting beat based on what game is being played.
What am3+ does better than Intel IMO is backwards compatibility. The FX 8350 is incredible at running multiple os boots for XP64, windows 7 and windows 10 on the same hardware.
The last Intel CPU that I had running multiple boot os was the core two quad qx 6700 with XP and windows 7.
I've read and seen first and second i series CPU running multiple boot for XP64 and windows 7 as well as windows 10 albeit with more complications than I've seen out of multiple boot FX builds when it came to windows 10.
If 3d v cache becomes the new standard for gaming CPU I think am4 will hold goat status longer than any platform that came before it. IMO

Realistically people buying the 5700x3d already have an am4 motherboard so then the price for picking an am5 chip is wayyyy higher

    • @45eno
      @45eno 3 дні тому +6

Nah, it's actually not wayyy higher. I just sold off 8 AM4 5000 cpu's, x570 boards and 32gb ram kits in the last 8 months. Investing in AM4 5700X3D is a ok upgrade only for those that dare not touch their hardware. AM5 is basically the same price if you shop smart. You can sell your AM4 parts and get a budget B650, 32gb premium 6000 CL30 kit and a 7500F/7600/7600X for maybe $50-100 tops out of pocket. About the same out of pocket upgrading to a 5700X3D and selling a cpu.

My main system was a 7800x3d + 7900xtx. Over at my desk. I am a cripple so I sit in my wheelchair. Haven't been feeling well and doctors legitimately dont care to help me find out why I dont feel good. So i've been in bed. So i bought a 5700x3d to go in my old x570 meg ace board that used to house a 3950x with 32gb ddr4 3600 cl14 ram. And with my old 6900xt, i bought a "bed pc" system. and its a mad lad. running a 1440p 240hz OLED (asus model) but run it in 120hz mode with black frame insertion. and yeah, its amazing in gaming. I saved a lot of money using old ram, old motherboard, old graphics card. So the 5700x3d was the smarter buy over buying cpu+motherboard+ram to make a second am5 system.

I have 3x 7800X3D and all have older 6950XT,6900XT,6800XT and the CPU is still benefiting me as I don't care about ULTRA detail and prefer 240fps fixed. I just lower in game settings till I hit an acceptable FPS range. Sounds like a solid secondary PC you built there.

I have an RX6600 and I am prioritizing an X3D upgrade over a GPU upgrade for this very reason. In CPU intensive titles, it will see a massive gain in FPS. I currently use a 1440p monitor. The X3D will support me running at high framerates at 720p so I can upscale to 1440p using Lossless Scaling, an app which has really made a substantial change to the philosophy of PC upgrades.

The 7800X3D has a miniscule performance difference when compared to the 5800X3D in gaming workloads. You might get 1-2% higher framerates and 3-4% better 1% lows. This is with very expensive DDR5 and what most people are running for DDR5 is going to perform worse than some cheap DDR4-3200 CL16 so there are definitely going to be some 5800X3D rigs out there which actually outperform a lot of 7800X3D rigs in gaming.

i initially thought the low clockspeed will be a shitty experience, so i splurged and went with r7700 on AM5.
2 months later i got to build 5700x3d for my brother, This CPU performance is actually neck and neck with my r7700 and outperform it in some games but for half the price because AM4 and DDR4 is so damn cheap.
Its a Great performer for people who can't afford rtx 4080 and above class of graphic card.
This CPU will squeeze everything out of a 4070 super even on 1080p.
It will push higher fps if u do -30 Curve optimizer all cores.

As others have said here, your Cinebench R23 score seems off for the 5700X3D. My 5700X3D, with PBO at -30 using 64GB 3600 CL18 RAM (running at 3533 CL16) just gave me a score of 13605 in multicore Cinebench R23. And this was just one run. Looking at how weak your Cinebench score is compared to other peoples 5700X3Ds I would assume it would affect your gaming scores aswell. From other tech channels I've seen the 5700X3D beats the 7500F in average. Make sure your infinity fabric clock is running at exactly half of the memory clock. Or maybe you didn't use PBO on the 5700X3D in this test? Looks like you did -20 PBO on the 5700X. Also, when googling 5700X3D Cinebench R23 multicore scores I find results in line or even better than my results.

my 5800x3d still runs a bit warm even at -30 CO at 70-75C (it runs 1.12 volts idle and 1.2 volts max under load) with the NH-D15. It does handle everything well from pushing consitent 1000 FPS on Osu! Lazer, to pushing 120-170fps in Ghost of Tsushima (with DLSS Quality and 4080 Super) at 1440p. It will still consume 100 watts if you push PBO to motherboard limits so people just play with TDC, PPT, and EDC to keep temps low.
AM4 X3D is still good. Really good for people who don't want to jump to AM5 (or are too lazy to do a full platform upgrade like me, because it's a pain to gut the entire PC just for a new motherboard + DDR5).
I think the reason that you have different performance from changing motherboards is how different AIB's handle their PBO motherboard limits. One could go ham with their TDC, PPT, and EDC values, meaning holding boost longer, higher temps, but it doesn't necessarily mean more performance. It could be holding back the chip because it's hitting PBO limits way too early. So if it hits one of those limits, that's when the Mobo will start pulling its punches to hit/go under said PPT, TDC, EDC limit.

If you ever get bored, try the 5700/5700g. I had one recently and messed around with it because it was monolithic ryzen not chiplet. So the Fabric clock reached Zen 4 levels, I got mine to 2200mhz fclock on 1.35mv (debauer torture tested these to prove monolithic SoC can survive 1.35 for daily operations). I know they always said these 16mb cache zen 3 variants were the worst, but I think that's because it doesn't need as much cache to compensate for memory latencies and speeds. The infinity fabric binds separate chiplet parts and runs off of memory so naturally regular ryzen was memory sensitive with a "sweet spot" of 3600. When I ran my 5700g at fclock 2200, ram at 4133 mushkin redline SR 2x16gb, core @4.8ghz with 1.28mv I was getting all core 4.8ghz with less than 110w. I just didn't have any other ryzen to test it against, but if they can all easily be tuned to that, it's the cheapest modern 8 core that could deliver incredible performance and performance per watt. Also I used a b350 tomahawk someone gave me with a beta bios so this could be done on a budget easily.

I also think a major reason why AM5 adoption is slow is because AM4 and Ryzen 5000-series in particular were such an immense improvement of what Intel previously offered in their 4core lineup, that a lot of us find ourselves in a situation where we actually don't need any more performance 🤷‍♂. I'm a power user myself, and a gamer. And I am perfectly fine with Ryzen 5600. It's honestly still plenty fast for gaming. And even when doing demanding productivity workloads it's not like I loose a lot of time with this compared to anything else. I have my eyes set on the 5700X3D as a final upgrade, but I am also getting a feeling that I will keep this platform for 10+ years in total.

I was going to buy a 1TB SSD, so instead bought a $8 pci card to put it in. I already had a nvme card with the OS on it, so I wasn't going to replace it. Added a $17 cpu cooler and was in for about $625 total. Was going to get a new AM5 setup, but it would have cost about $900. It would have been better, but for my needs, probably not worth the extra cost. Plus I was hoping it would be easy to upgrade since I didn't have to swap a MB. I slightly regret not going with am4 because of the socket of am5 requiring so much precision for the cpu install. I bent some pins and had to unbend them with a broken toothpick and a dental tool. It seemed alright afterwards even with a loose pin-cap. The am4 install seems a lot easier and a better guarantee of non-bent pins once it's inside.

I don't think you should overclock these processors, even if it's easy. Most people do not overclock their processors but use the default settings.

The regional thing is 100% true. In Brazil youll pay almost half for a great AM4 build in comparison with a good AM5 build.

I can understand why AMD keep the AM4 socket alive. If there's any way for them to maintain market share, albeit on an older socket, its a no brainer. Especially since AMD isn't forking out new silicon that could have gone to am5 chips, its more likely that the 5700x3D is just underperforming 5800x3D chips. Plus, for under 200 dollars, its a KILLER upgrade coming from 1st, 2nd and even 3rd gen Ryzen

Been an Intel guy since the days of the 8088 CPU. Started building my own PC's in 1985. I got rid of all my AMD AM4 stuff and went back to Intel. My 12th gen CPU's will last me another 10+ years. Still have a working system running an i7-3770, 16GB DDR3-1600 ram and a GTX 1650 Super. Don't need AMD anymore.

I got my 7500F from aliexpress for £116 including tax and I'm very happy with the performance. The 7700 is an even better bargain as it's about £100 less than uk prices after tax if you need more cores. I got the 7500F to get me onto am5 and will save up for a 7800x3d or wait a while and see how new chips go next year.

3700x to 5700x3d for 180€, not a bad deal. Will keep my 1% lows good for the next 2-4 years

My OLED is a 120hz panel so my 5800x3D has some more years in the config since most games are GPU limited at 4k120hz.
