A big thanks for mentioning the mpg . It is important. Most reviews of hybrids totally ignore this especially with high priced cars. It’s not just about the cost of petrol. It’s about emissions of CO2.
I love the performance hybrid concept, the 2nd gen NSX was flawed but I dug its concept a lot, the 296 is the most exciting Ferrari to me since the FF. I know from experiencing the Prius plug-in that it doesn't take many miles of EV-only range to become many, many miles of ICE/EV-blended driving that has good torque feel and economy all at once. It's such a smart way to go IMO, well worth a few hundred pounds in batteries and electrical gubbons for the benefits you get. I second some other commenters who want this to happen in 911s/Boxsters/etc. Plug-in performance hybrids deserve to take the 2020s by storm, hopefully it happens!
The 296 doesn't get better mileage because the hybrid, please. Neither does the NSX, all the hybrid nonsense did was make the car heavier, more complicated and less fun. Twin-turbo engines don't need more torque. The hybrid in this Panamera is better though because it actually has mpg benefits due to the larger plug-in battery, but for supercars where lightness and agility is what matters, adding battery power is just an engineering exercise with no real upside.
@@TML34 This video 1000% disagrees with you, since the highway mileage is better than double with EV charge than without on this car, and I know from experience you get about 30 more MPG when you plug in a plug-in Prius versus just driving it around on gas. Physics also makes it clear that there is ~6x more energy loss in ICEs than with EVs, electric power wins hands-down on efficiency by a mile. The NSX and 296 weren't fuel economy focused in their calibrations but they still gave more performance for less fuel, and the physics of hybrids completely disagrees with your ignorant opinion.

@@joetacchino4470 Ive tested it on a different hybrid car, a Peugeot 508 306hp hybrid by Peugeot Sport. It went from 5" 0-60 to 7'5". If you do lots of city driving (stop and go) the battery is constantly being charged so don't worry, you will always have the acceleration when you need it.
I still think BMW did an awesome job on the i8, nearly 10 years ago. Full electric mode up to 70mph and a great zippy 1.5 engine. For £50k that’s my choice at the moment. Nice video, awesome car
well executed plug in hybrid a the best for many. When you buy a pure ev you are mostly paying for a supply problem with mining and battery production.
The Taycan design works because it’s much smaller and lower to the ground. There is very little usable space in it. Panamera much more useable for an “everything” car.
3.4 0-60 seems like its for the GTS or S E Hybrid.. I would double check that figure. Still quick and still interested in this vehicle. Porsche website says around 4.2 secs. Still great!
This is a great daily and if I wasn't looking for the RS3 as a daily then this car would be on my list. I just like smaller nimble cars even in my daily but surely it's a great car.
I hate adaptive cruise, always set it to regular cruise control. I can see and will slow down when needed , I don't want to drop from 75 to 65 because the car 100yds away is going 65. I guess at 40 I'm old cause I just don't understand the usefulness of adaptive cruise control. Cancel and resume were enough.
They’re really expensive (as most cars are here in Aus) but they depreciate nicely and it makes them a bargain compared to a 911. I keep having rude thoughts about them but am just a bit wary about maintenance costs in a used one. But there’s an older model supercharged hybrid (non Phev) which they only did for a couple of years which looks good. Kids are at home for 8 more years yet! I can get dogs in or a bike in with the seats down and its not an SUV. The lift back is a rarity. Although hof course a Kia Stinger does the same thing and is a way more sensible option (minus the hybrid) but cheaper and with a warranty but a Kia badge. Ho hum I don’t know! Good review Zac 👍
Depreciation is significant and likely to increase over the next year as used car prices continue to decline. Tack on an aftermarket warranty you've got a great worry-free car!
Best of both or worst of both lies in the criteria... From an ecological standpoint, performance hybrids like this are not much of an improvement (especially considering that most plug in hybrid owners barely ever charge them). Heavy and high CO2 impact in production like an EV, not amazing efficiency like a ICE car. For econoboxes like a prius, Hybrids can come out great, but if you actually want higher power too, I don't think EV's are beatable (from a CO2 impact perspective).
Totally agree with you that we need more Plug in Hybrids than we have. EV for daily commute and have gas for road trips.
I like the high production quality on this video.

Here in old continent we typically have car taxes based on CO2 emissions, so the most popular Panamera is the e-Hybrid.
Yeah, oddly the Taycan starts cheaper than a Panamera which is counter intuitive as EVs tend to be more costly than equivalent petrol cars.
The quality of this video is noticeably higher, great production Zack!
