explaining asexual inside jokes for non-aces who don't know: - the cake and garlic bread memes are because we think they are better than sex - the denmark Invasion is because we realised there are more asexuals than the population of denmark, so naturally the next step is domination - some asexuals wear a black ring on our right middle finger - yes, we are dragons. don't question it.
Btw, the Denmark joke is that there are approximately 78 million asexuals around the world, and we out number the population of Denmark. Therefore, we wish to invade Denmark in order to create a non-overly sexualized society
"how would someone know they're asexual if they've never had sex?" Are you gay? "No" Have you had gay sex? "Nope" Then how do you know you're not gay if you've never had gay sex?
Hiiya me too, until I also realised I am also diagnosed ADHD and ASD (as well as atheist) I used to call myself insurance 😅 now I'm just a scream.. AAAAAA
Our ideal leader is a purple dragon who gives us cake and garlic bread (separately of course). We are secretly axolotls. There, all the secrets are out.
A lot of aces aren't cis, so it makes sense we'd share symbols. I'm agender, for example. I'm gravitating toward the agender flag, but the enby one does have cool colors...
I remember myself (aged 7) sitting in a bathroom at my unkle's wedding having an early life crisis thinking how one day I'm gonna have to date people and have sex and being absolutely HORRIFIED by the idea... I'm 32 now and I still feel exactly the same 😄
Reminds me of how I was absolutely certain I would never marry a man when I was six or seven and later on realizing I never would cause i like girls lol
I remember i was 10-11 thinking like "well i dont get crushes, and romance is uncomfortable, ig ill like it when i grow up :/" when i hadnt found the term aroace yet
Props to my friend who came out to the class as asexual/gender fluid by saying, “oh yeah, I traded in my sexual attraction for a second gender at the lgbt pawn shop”
As someone who is on the ace spectrum but is sex positive, I can feel very invalid sometimes. So, I’m here to say, if you are on the ace spectrum and sex positive, YOU ARE SO VALID
omg, it's so true! like, there's so little ace representation as it is (though it's improving, i gotta say) and when you do have it, the character is sex repulsed and even when people talk about it, they don't really talk about being anything else then repulsed by sex. and that can make you feel like you're not a "real" asexual. so yeah, YOU ARE SO VALID
I read a fanficton recently where the main romantic interest was asexual. He did do naughty stuff though from time to time, and I distinctly remember him saying: just because I’m asexual doesn’t mean it doesn’t feel good being with you like this.
Yes!! I remember there was a post that compared asexuality to what-if people who don’t need to eat. They don’t feel hunger, but some eat food anyways because it tastes good while others don’t like the thought of food at all. It’s a spectrum 😆
in the wise words of Jean Millburn from sex education: "sex doesn't make us whole, and so how can you ever be broken?" brings tears to my eyes every time 🥺💜🖤
obsessed with that show!! people say it’s vulgar but i think the whole point is it destigmatizes both sex and asexuality and it’s a really well written show
"Ace until they meet this person" is kind of what demi-sexuality is about except that it's "until they get close to that person", kinda. But yeah, ace will not change sexual orientation just because we have sex, or write/read sex-related stories, or talk about sex. This is the most annoying thing I've heard way too often.
It's kind of annoying too, because it's not like the demi-sexual community gets tons of representation either. It's doubly sad when they take something that could have been perfectly serviceable representation for one community and turned to into something that fundamentally misrepresented another 🤦♀️
Don't forget, though, that just because a demi-sexual person gets close enough to experience sexual attraction with one person doesn't make them no longer demi-sexual. So, it's still not 'ace/demi until', since the orientation is still there and still valid.
@@hauntedshadowslegacy2826 yeah I see alot of people think/over simply that about demi, like your attractiom is still limited its still not suddenly allo just cuse they got bounded enough to feel attention to that person
I've had times that I tried to come out as ace, only to have my conversation partner start to tell me in candid detail everything they experience as nice during sex - as if an *explaination* would make me see what's so great about it after all... Annoying is the word for it.
That's actually a good point. I would be fine with that trope if them realizing they where demi was mentioned in any way. Because if not it's to easy to see it as going from ace to Gay or straight.
Another asexual meme: Partner: Let's role play ... I'm a bad girl who deserves punishment Asexual: I am a Paladin with Charisma 16 and negative Dexterity points
So you know how a lot ace spec people will tell sex jokes about themselves but can’t handle other people telling sex jokes about them(even people they’re more comfortable with). I thought of a good explanation for it(at least I hope it’s good): Telling a sex joke about yourself is like touching your own chest; you don’t need permission to do it. Telling a sex joke about someone else is like touching their chest; you either need permission or a previously established privilege to do so. I realized some time after thinking this up that this explanation could also be used to shut down the “it’s just a joke” brand of harassers/enablers.
This. Yesterday some old guy 20 years my senior leaned in to tell me a dirty joke and of course I didn’t know until the punchline. I walked away saying very loudly, “THAT MAKES ME UNCOMFORTABLE!” And he started FOLLOWING ME to try to justify it 😬 and I just kept saying really loud, “I’M UNCOMFORTABLE! I’M UNCOMFORTABLE!” Later I realized that was my version of , “I need an adult!” 🤣
That's a great way to explain why "It's just a joke" isn't justified. I've been the target of casual rape "jokes" threatening to teach me why I'm not ace and not trans. It still sucks, but back 15 odd years ago it was really hard to describe being ace to my peers who had only heard the term asexual in reference to asexual reproduction. I'm glad to see the internet spread the word about our existence and that kids get the support they need now. I wish I had these resources as a 90's teen. I always felt like such an alien.
Historically, the bi community have been the most welcoming to aces as both communities face almost identical exclusion and there is intersection in the communities frequently. I am demi and bi so I'm in both communities...also enby.
"We are everywhere" is a slogan that has been used in LGBT protests since the 70s or 80s. Similar to "we're here, we're queer, get used to it!" Showing that we are in every society and we've always been here. We are everywhere.
The Denmark thing: On Asexual Reddit a bunch of us started joking about how asexuals outnumber a lot countries in population and said that we would invade Denmark and other countries like Canada :D(Hope this helped, I just didn't see anyone explaining it)And yes asexuals are magical dragons.
As a cello aroace of Canada, I am ready to be the “inside man” as it were, also we already rely on immigration for our population so it’d be a great fit 😄
Why do people think we don't exist? I tried to tell my sister that I'm ace through casual conversation. When the topic was nearing that direction, she said, "Honestly, I wouldn't have been surprised if someone had told me in high school that you were asexual." I was shocked because I didn't realize it myself until I got married (I assumed that I was just a good little Christian girl and that I would have "temptations" when I got married, but that didn't happen). I replied "Well, I think that I am asexual." She told me "No you're not. You're married. And I've seen the way you kiss him." I kiss him like I love him. Because I do love him romantically. I'm just not sexually attracted to him or anyone. When I told my other sister that I'm ace, she said that I "Must have had more bad experiences with sex than good" and I "need to go to a sex therapist and it will get better." I love my sisters, but I have stopped trying to tell my family because they really don't believe me. Thank you Jamie for acknowledging us!
It's sad that there are people in your life that just won't understand. I'm one of the only supports for my ace sister in the family. One day in high school I joked with her after a sex ed class I could literally not imagine her having sex with anyone. She would magically reproduce through mitosis one day and there would be two identical of her 😂 And she contemplated on my joke and decided it was correct! I hope one day she finds someone who shares her romantic interests and enjoys a healthy vibrant relationship :)
Dear lord that's gotta be so annoying. I've luckily never had to justify being ace to my family and friends, cause sexual attraction just isn't something we've ever viewed as important or prominent. So we've always been laid back about anything lgbtq. No fuzz when my sister got a girlfriend, no fuzz when I started talking about the ace spectrum and being homoromantic. Just an "aight cool" and that's about it. If any of my siblings ever started *insisting* that I'm not ace and then give me that "proving you wrong" attitude, I'd feel disgusted with them. And I mean, seriously.. is it not kinda disturbing how much people care about their family members having sex? Kinda gross in my opinion.. But yeah, I always find it sad when I see people base everything off of sexual attraction and bedtime shenanigans, rather than quality time, friendship and genuine love for oneanother. (Also I dunno how much I can complain seeing as the worst I've gotten is a guy jokingly asking if my balls are blue cause I said I don't fancy wanking it lmao) But anyway, keep at it. You're asexual, and that asexuality is a valid and respectable part of you, no matter what anyone says. Hope your sisters learn to be less inappropriate about you and your husband, and all the best to you both. We support you
I have sexual trauma, I’m demisexual and have always been - that experience changed a lot of things but it didn’t change who I was or how I feel sexual attraction. I have been to a sex therapist (quite a lot actually) and I can tell you what my sex therapist would say “ that how you identify now is your identity, that you know your body and feelings better than anyone else no matter how ‘close’ they are to you and that sexual attraction, romantic involvement and what activities you do or don’t with others is for you to decide” - so now you can tell your sister you don’t have to spend hundreds to get that advice in person lol
One of my classmates owns a jacket that is grey at the top, has a white stripe on chest height and is black at the bottom. It's his everyday cold weather jaket. He also owns a purple hoodie, which he wears regularly. Now put these together. I don't know if he is on the ace spectrum, I'm not really close with anyone.
I have to say, I recently realized I'm ace, and I can say I LOVE my pride flag, not just because of how nice the colors clash, but what it means to me as an asexual. I actually plan to come out as ace to my family through an ace-flag themed cake/cupcakes. I thought it be a sweet way to come out, and poke fun at how us aces perfer to ear cake over doing it with someone.
@@bkCheezburgor, coming out asexual wasn't all that bad, no one really questioned me. Sure, they believe my asexuality is because I never had some adult time with another adult (if you get what I mean), but that was fine. Then, a few months later, I realized I'm also enby and that's when the issues began. Then it became "Are you sure you're enby? Are you sure you're asexual? Are you sure you also like men romantically? How do you know you only like women romantically? Oh, you want to have a more masucline chest, well every woman has issues with her chest, so what your going through doesn't need to result in removing that area of your body. And you want us to call you by your new name and pronouns, sorry that isn't going to happen." That kind of thing. So yeah, coming out as asexual didn't result in anything terrible, but coming out as nonbinary kind of did. Granted, they haven't disowned me, and they're finally beginning to respect my pronouns and new name (well, a few are), but still hurts to have my new name and my pronouns not respected and to get questioned about my asexuality a bit further than before, but not all that bad. 1
@@moonlightnymph7975, yeah. Some have, but one is confused on my pronouns, saying my pronouns (they/them) are ruined by my generation with the "I use they/them pronouns" discussion. An aunt, uncle, and their kids accept me, but they live in another State. The family here deadnaming and misgendering me is finally starting to wear on me, until I tell myself what my chosen name and pronouns are everyday. It doesn't help all I can think about is transitioning, which only worsens how I feel.
@@PhantomFerret hello fellow ace enby ! I send you my love and support. I hope your situation will get better. I hope you find/have a chosen family who supports you. I hope you get to a place where you feel good and loved. You will always be loved and supported at least in this corner of the internet
About the "oh but you sure you want an only romantic relationship, that's gonna be boring" one. I'm aro and when I told some friends to explain why I had broken up with my (absolutely amazing) ex-girlfriend, they replied with " oh but then you can only have sexual relationships? But you're missing out on the best part!" Don't try to please them, they're never happy, be yourself!
I would much prefer conversations, both serious and funny, with my bae to be the best part of the relationship. It's the communication and having fun with each other is what makes the relationships so nice. Or maybe it's just my asexuality speaking right now haha.
One of my mates is asexual, aromatic and agender, while I myself am aro/ace. So we would joke together about them being a triple A battery and I'm a double A. Sometimes we would also just scream AAAAAA at each other. Good times.
Cool. By that Logic i an a Quadruple A battery (AAAA battery) because im asexual, Aromantic, Agender, plus i dont feel aesthetic attraction Idk how myself I guess i Just no
I love the spongebob memes especially because years ago, when Stephen Hillenburg was asked if spongebob had a love interest, Hillenburg responded by saying that he sees Spongebob as asexual. Considering spongebob had two parents and had no romantic or sexual relationship himself, I affirm that his is an aroace icon!
Actually, the question was explicitly about whether or not Spongebob and Patrick are gay which lead to Stephen Hillenburg saying that, no, the team never intended for them to be gay, but that he considers them asexual instead. If this had just been about deflecting the possibility of these characters being gay, he could have just said they were straight or even have them crush on girls in the show itself (apparently Sandy was originally intended as a love interest, they could have easily revived some of that stuff to dispel all doubts) but no, he explicitly decided on asexuality long before ace representation was ever even considered a possible thing in cartoons. That’s why it irks me when people try to claim that Stephen Hillenburg calling Spongebob asexual was just him „making a marine biologist joke because sponges reproduce asexually in real life, he didn’t actually mean it, guys!“ The question at hand was explicitly about sexuality and so was the answer. Fanfics are fine, nobody cares if you ship Spongebob with Sandy or Patrick or whoever, but the creator said what he said. By Word of God, Spongebob is canonically asexual, not gay or straight or interested in romance in any way that doesn’t involve a literal food item(it wasn’t cake or garlic bread, but close enough…).
@@rainpooper7088 I appreciate this reply. I wanted to elaborate or link a source but all I had was this memory from a few years ago when my frends and I were watching old Nickelodeon interviews
@@rainpooper7088 unrelated but I never watched spongebob as a kid and my friend did, so when she would talk about the show, specifically when she mentioned sandy I didn’t know who that was, so I was like “sandy?” and she was like “yeah, sandy cheeks” and I was ROLLING on the floor laughing, I didn’t think she was serious 😆
I remember the day that I realized I might be asexual. Real weird going through the hallways at school and realizing that crushes aren't a societal expectation that we all just perform because we were told we should by movies 😂
4:03 my class learnt sex ed in science and our teacher taught us about asexuality, other sexualities, about intersex people, and also gender identity include non-binary identities! she is my favorite teacher ever, i already used the label asexual that time so it made me extremely happy :) edit:oh yea and of course we also learnt about safe sex and condoms and whatever anti concepcionais are in englsih (im brazilian lol)
Can I ask, when was this? Sounds amazing! So much better than what is was ~15 years ago, you can't even imagine the barren wasteland that used to be sex-ed (speaking as Dutchie, but I'm pretty sure it goes for everywhere).
bruhh im doing rn (my school you do it every year till the end of high school) and its all everyone feels it and everyone does it, theyre ok with the fact teenagers have sex but refuse to tell us about asexuality which is annoying as an asexual person
9:35 this is a call out. I literally thought "Netflix and Chill" was just watching Nextflix and hanging out with, like, snacks until the innuendo was so abundant that only someone with a black hole level of density could miss it.
I missed it too, and the worst part is that in spanish ( i live in spain) theh have been using " let's watch a movie or whatever" as code for sex and i was aware of that being a thing , but still missed the netflix and chill one. 🤦🏼♀️
Oh, the same except even when it was abundant, I still had no idea it was a sexual innuendo. I only found out when a very nice person I was dating at the time explained it to me (it just happened to come up in conversation not as any kind of invitation or anything) and I was flabbergasted. Poor guy, I think I spent the next five or ten minutes ranting about sex once again corrupting the literal meaning of a perfectly wonderful and fun activity.
When I last saw Jamie reacting to ace memes, I hadn't identified as ace yet. Jamie's past videos and the wholesome community in the comment section actually encouraged me to seriously reflect on my sexuality. Thank you every nice person out here
It's so helpful to have stuff like this talked about more, instead of trying to hide it incase it influences people or something. I don't know what my sexuality is because I grew up in the time where everyone was using gay as a pejorative and like, most representation in media was straight people. I was bullied for being gay when I wasn't. But all of that stuff is so messed up, like I shouldn't have felt the need to distance myself and defend myself by essentially identifying as not gay. There is nothing wrong with being gay and no one should be put in that situation. I'm so happy to see things changing. To see more acceptance. I think it's important for people (probably should be a part of sexual education) to have discussions on what love actually is. And sexual attraction, and romantic attraction etc. Like, I still don't know what my stuff is but for me relationships are too much time and effort. I'd rather play music, have chill conversations, play board games, ttrpgs, video games or read a book. I'm sure it also doesn't help that I'm living my hermit life. Anyway, I apologize for kind of hijacking your comment and going on a bit of a rant.
Honestly though I feel like "character has no interest in sex until they meet main character man" Like so many things have characters with great aroace vibes and then throw it out the window. I want your classic love triangle story except the female lead is aroace and the male leads end up dating each other at the end.
You know, as a demi I think it's fine if they're ace until x person, we kinda need representation too you know. Demi's are also ace, as long as the char is established as ace it should still count.
i so want read a love triangle like that. Tho if u aren't playing with love triangles, if you make the leads ace, that will remove the romantic tension from the book which authors love to play with.
“An only romantic relationship might be boring” says the people who feel the need to “spice things up” to avoid boredom during sex. And also the people who only like their partner for their body.
One thing I always hate as an asexual, is when there's a character that is either confirmed to be or popularly headcanoned to be ace, but people in the fandom write sexual fanfics about them. Like, yeah aces can still have adult fun time, but those who don't understand asexual relationships don't understand the depth and the reality behind sex-positive/favorable ace relationships. Yes, aces can still partake in the act, but our relationships with it is completely different.
I think is ok if they are only headcanoned as ace, because you know, a headcanon is not really official and each person can headcanon a character as whatever they like.
Like alastor from hazbin hotel being confirmed aroace and still being put with characters in fanfiction Like When I went to the fanfiction for the show (a dangerous game to be playing as a sex repulsed ace because it's fanfiction and it's for a show that's already very sexualized but that's beside the point) one of the first ones I found was clearly gonna have alastor and angel be together And it's like... Yes aros can have close relationships like that and aces can have sex But Is alastor really the type of person who'd do that? He gives me sex indifferent but still wouldn't do it with anyone vibes. The way I see it, he doesn't really care enough to be grossed out by it, but I also don't think he'd be willing to do it with most people. He's too powerful and therefore too good for them! Why would he waste his time with anyone else there?
Jamie's reaction to discovering what the lyrics of "My milkshakes bring all the boys to the yard" means was absolutely adorable, and I am here for it. ♥
" You'll eventually have desires for other people " As someone who's been taking care of themselves since he was 6, I can assure you that's incorrect lol
Maybe the desire for close friendships. I do believe everyone has that. Regardless of sexuality. But some people in relationships It just becomes the same person, but that's not healthy either
About the denmark thing- its an ongoing ace joke that if we all got together we could invade denmark because if you gathered all the aces in the world there would be more of us than the population of denmark. Also yes, cake, dragons, and garlic bread are the staples of our existence
explaining asexual jokes for non-aces: -we like cake and garlic bread more than sex -we like world domination (specifically Denmark cause there are more aces than danish ppl) -we are dragons and or gods -some of us wear the black ring (I do) -we have an ace council, which has claimed any purple character -all of this is canonical do not question use. Fear us.
Was checking on the progress of my pasta when you said the "shoutout to all my aromantic, asexual, agender people out there" line, and my brain had a weird little "That's me!!!" moment. (As I'm also Autistic, I like to joke that I'm collecting 'A's.)
It's absolutely true that us aces don't get a lot of representation, and often, representation we do get sometimes gets taken away. I'm looking at you, Riverdale. Thanks for looking out for us, Jaime!
10:21 I'm aro/ace and boyflux (which means the intensity of masculinity I feel changes over time) meaning I can be fully male, demiboy or agender sooo Edit: I just figured out I'm agender and pan, so ig I took one look at the world and said idc lol
I get that! I play D&D and I cannot for the love of god play a character with a different sexuality. Just the concept of sexual attraction is so foreign to me o.o
Every time I start a new Sims playthrough, I play with a single sim and never get them into any romantic/sexual relations just out of pure hyper-focus on the careers and money goals. So... yeah... ^^; Contrast that with the shit I said while high after an ortho procedure. I must've told every tech there how great I think tiddies are at least three times, and I vaguely recall reaching out for a pair... Guess I oughta apologize for that one, too, in addition to the 'soft taco' stuff I said...
@@hauntedshadowslegacy2826 Leaving aside the feelings of those you said it to… It is entirely understandable that you would find breasts interesting/nifty/appealing to touch, even if you have no interest in them as sexual organs. The number of us who enjoy playing with stress balls and the like, because of how they feel and move, makes it entirely understandable. But I also don’t recommend apologizing to anyone by explaining you were asexually fascinated by their breasts, in the same way people like stress balls. I have this strange feeling it would go over poorly somehow… ;p
Then make them all ace. It's not as if most straight authors bother adding anything other than straight romance, and one of character that says they are gay and then are never seen again
aromanticism and asexuality have become some of my greatest weapons since i came out. -i once was the only person in my class to complete a math assignment because everyone else was talking about some bs relationship drama that happened -i save considerable amounts of money on not going to prom/hoco/whatever -i am immune to truth or dare -not being distracted by "relationships" and "romance" has given me much more time to focus on the Sigma Grindset ™
The one about an only romantic relationship being "boring" reminded me of a time that I explained to a guy that what me being ace meant and he just replied "wow you must be lonely." It was the first time I had personally been told something like that. Luckily, I had friends around who could tell him that wasn't a thing he could say
The response I got from an ex-friend (I cut ties with her about a year ago, but because of something else) after it came up in conversation was "but isn't that sad?" And I was just like "umm... no?" At first she seemed to want to learn about it and I tried to explain, but she just couldn't wrap her head around it, always went back to "that's so sad" 🤦♀️
There are hypoallergenic cats, so it's less like telling someone with a cat allergy they just haven't found the right cat, and more like telling a vampire they haven't found the right garlic bread recipe
This was my immediate thought too! My favourite is “it’s like telling someone who is anaphylactic to peanuts to just try peanut butter…” I like the double entaute of ‘nuts’ 😂
5:25 I died at that reaction 😂😂 I love how people assume we aces are all innocent but I already knew the meaning of this song while Jamie, a bi, just had his day ruined with that realization lmaoooo
Raphael Santiago is also an asexual character in Shadowhunters, he is even aro ace in the books since he literally said his sexuality is "not interested" once and never has a relationship.
Yeah, but in the popular CW adaptation Jughead's sexuality was erased and they made him straight, so I don't blame Jamie for not realising (a lot of people don't). And he only ever said he was asexual by name in the Chip Zdarsky run of the Jughead comics (well worth a read for any fellow aces out there!)
Jamie, thank you for being inclusive and covering asexual contents! I feel seen, validated, and … overall warm and happy. Fellow aces, I’m 42 years old and people still tell me I just haven’t met “the one” yet and that it’s just a phase; that I just need to have sex (with them 🤢,) that they can “change that.” They don’t know what they’re talking about - you are valid, you matter, you’re wonderful the way you are 🖤♠️🤍💜
“This character is asexual until they meet this other character” Do you mean the character is grey ace? Or demi? Cause that’s the shit that actually happens On that topic I’ve read some really great fanfics with grey/demi leads that were clearly either written by acespec people or by people that have spent time in the community
I think they're more so talking about how it's portrayed in media, as I know they do that a lot with lesbians. Someone is a lesbian in a story until the "right guy" comes along. I've personally never seen it done with Ace, but I totally believe that modern media would.
@@Absbabs88 yeah I also think the meme is referring to scenarios where a character identifies as ace, meets someone and suddenly they are allo. Of course greysexuality and demisexuality is totally a thing and valid. And I would love to see more representation for them. But sadly most of the time, that is not whats happening and the terms are not mentioned. And in those scenarios they make it seem like the character is suddenly allo and erase the whole ace-umbrella. Which is super sad
Adding on to the original message, but also sometimes these people aren't trying to be not inclusive, sometimes they have the character think they're asexual and realize they aren;t, because it can happen, we all get confused. (This is a positive post and what Im trying to get across is asexuals are vaild af, but sometimes we think we're something we're not lol..if this makes no sense lemme know. ~Pan Genderfluid)
Jamie at 5:32 realising what Kelis was really singing about is a big enough dose of wholesome to last me a day. I literally had to pause the video to go "Aww bless you!!~" out loud.
If anyone wants some good human aro ace representation, try the anime "saiki kusuo no ψ-nan". It's comedy about a psychic teenager who just wants to hide his powers and avoid romance with a lot of interesting side characters. The main character, Saiki, is very much a human and a tsundere which means he struggles with showing affection to his friends and family.
i haven't seen it yet but i know there's an asexual arromantic character in yagate kimi ni naru too, is maki and from a video i saw it looks like good human aro ace representation.
Explanations: The online ace community has a few very specific internal jokes. "Yeah, sex is cool, but have you ever had garlic bread/cake?" is one. Another one is "Since 1% of people are ace, the global ace population outnumbers the people of Denmark. We could take over Denmark." So those are the inside jokes in those memes.
Here’s a cute story. I’m a cis woman, but a few months ago I was boredom bingeing all of Jamie’s old transition videos. The next day, my neighbor texted me to make sure she was using my proper pronouns. I think it was because she heard the videos through the wall when she was walking up to her apartment.
I'm a closeted ace and I've just been dropping subtle hints to my mom about it until I eventually come out and she'll be like "aha I knew it" and I'll pretend I never knew It's the best thing ever
The thing with denmark is.. One day the aces found out, that there are more aces than the army of denmark (or even the whole population I don't know that excactly) Anyways, some aces where like wooohoo we are more than them, we can invade denmark and make it our little ace country, so the joke about invading denmark is everywhere now. Hope you understood :)
@@raffy4559 Well... I'm pretty sure that at one point there was an ace who traced the lineage of ancient Danish pirate queens to find out the country is rightfully ours. Shall we go with that?

You are a amazing, strong, Valid, intelligent and kind person. You will change the world and make it a better place. Always take care of yourself and treat yourself the way you deserves to be treated.
My friend came out as asexual to me by sending ace card images every so often. It took me a while to realize, but they have all of my support! Also a reminder that youre all so very valid, have a wonderful day :))
I always love when you do asexual memes because it genuinely makes me feel seen; every video I see on youtube about asexuality and aromanticism are *from* ace/aro people, which is of course fine, but it means a lot that someone not on the a-spectrum is speaking and learning about us (this includes one topic at a time, as well)
YES! It feels so nice to actually be recognized as existing and not just being called a "plant" when people speak about asexuality. We're out there, and it doesn't mean that we're social outcasts or mentally ill.
Just as you said "we" at 6:38 I got an advert for Pizza Ovens so it ended up being "We are pizza ovens" and as an Ace I am now claiming this as our new slogan. Asexuals: We are Pizza Ovens.
4:25 I’m 22 and none of my schools had sex education. I told about reproduction by my grandparents. 6:42 When I told my stepmom that I’m an aromatic asexual, her immediate response was “So you want to die old and alone“. I felt bad for her because she doesn’t understand that you don’t need a partner to keep from being alone.
Another thing that makes me both sad and angry is women who think they are not whole or are not a real or full woman if she isn’t married (or at least in a relationship). Seriously?!
the fact that jamie is just a ray of positivity makes me feel like im drinking warm soup and the warmth is doing the spreading thingy also as an ace yessss we love that inclusivity
Gah, hearing that Jamie is only 27 makes me feel so old. I'm 10 years his senior **flails around in middle-aged aro ace trans-dude panic** I'm so glad to see how the world changes. It was a battle when I was a young undergrad just to get people to understand that asexuals and aromantics exist back in the early 00's, without being dismissed with others claiming it was just a medical condition from hormone imbalances, low libido, or a side effect of trauma/abuse. Human attraction and sexuality is a complicated system, just as physical sex and gender are complicated. Some people never have to interrogate their sexuality or gender identity because they have an easier to parse experience that lines up more with cultural conditions. I wish that some would try to take a step back and imagine what it's like to be different, then they might understand that yes, they do have a gender and sexuality too and that we're not looking for attention. Anyway, I love you all. I hope we can all look upon each other with love and compassion. Even if some fall behind, everyone can learn and grow (though some are stubborn and can hurt you, and your words alone may be insufficient to change their minds alone). It is best to take a step back, breath, and approach people with the calm demeanor of a teacher, as you never know when you might be the start of a turning point, if not for who you confront, but for others who might be listening. I'm not asking anyone to feel guilty for rightfully lashing out with anger in response to attack, it's just that some will use that as an excuse to double down on wrongful rhetoric and paint us as aggressors. Gah, most importantly, be kind to yourself. Though I may not know you, I love you (platonically). Slowly things are getting better, it's just two steps forward, one step back.
I told someone I was ace and he asked me “what made me asexual” and then proceeded to list a bunch of traumatic experience that could possibly make me asexual….. I just don’t see people in that way. The fact that some people genuinely believe someone just can’t be asexual is scary
It's perfectly okay and normal to notice your sexuality shift as the years pass by. But in my particular case, I went from a very feisty bisexual into a chill demi who loves to cuddle. Sex is cool and all, but have you ever had a silly pillow fight? Laughing so much with your partner until you cry? That's the stuff. Gaining maturity made me realize how precious love and affection means to me, oppositely to what your mother pointed out. Presence or absence of sex doesn't equal maturity and it's something that needs to be understood by more people.
I’m so glad you did this video! I love all your content but I rarely feel included in the LGBTQ+ community because I’m straight and cis which are seen as the defining characteristics even though I’m also demisexual, demiromantic, and Polyamorous. This video made me feel included for once and I really appreciate it!
I didn't even realize I was ace until recently because I enjoy sex, but I've never actually been sexually attracted to anyone. And the fact I've collected dragon statues my whole life just reinforces it lol.
explaining asexual inside jokes for non-aces who don't know:
- the cake and garlic bread memes are because we think they are better than sex
- the denmark Invasion is because we realised there are more asexuals than the population of denmark, so naturally the next step is domination
- some asexuals wear a black ring on our right middle finger
- yes, we are dragons. don't question it.
I think it was not population of Denmark, but army of Denmark
Okay, now all the secrets are really out. I told them we were axolotls.
Population of Denmark 5.8 million. Asexuals are estimated to be 1% of the world population, which makes it 78 million asexuals.
It's not relevant to this video but we are also gods.
The invasion of Denmark is twofold because it's also a thing that villains would do. It's a very compelling career choice as a dragon or a god.
Btw, the Denmark joke is that there are approximately 78 million asexuals around the world, and we out number the population of Denmark. Therefore, we wish to invade Denmark in order to create a non-overly sexualized society
*78 million
woo great idea
We could also invade Uruguay. We could get an alliance with the kangaroos to overthrow the uruguayan-cow axis

:D!

Sex Education is such a great show. Especially that scene you mentioned.

As a genderfluid, asexual person who feels agender for the time being, I can confirm that I took a look at the world and said "No ❤"
Haha hello fellow genderfluid and ace :D
Same here!
Another asexual meme:
Partner: Let's role play ... I'm a bad girl who deserves punishment
Asexual: I am a Paladin with Charisma 16 and negative Dexterity points
My favorite ace pride pin says "Only an actual milkshake can bring me to the yard" 😁

So you know how a lot ace spec people will tell sex jokes about themselves but can’t handle other people telling sex jokes about them(even people they’re more comfortable with). I thought of a good explanation for it(at least I hope it’s good):
Telling a sex joke about yourself is like touching your own chest; you don’t need permission to do it.
Telling a sex joke about someone else is like touching their chest; you either need permission or a previously established privilege to do so.
I realized some time after thinking this up that this explanation could also be used to shut down the “it’s just a joke” brand of harassers/enablers.
That's actually a really cool explanation, it gonna you aced it 👍
love thx
That’s a nice analogy!
"It's cute, but it sounds mildly threatening."
Yeah, did you forget we're invading Denmark?
I'm asexual and i built my entire personality around liking dragons before i knew that was an asexual thing.
Sameeeeee
Historically, the bi community have been the most welcoming to aces as both communities face almost identical exclusion and there is intersection in the communities frequently.
I am demi and bi so I'm in both communities...also enby.
Asexuals used to be literally accepted into the bi community because we're also attracted equally to all genders (aka not)
damn i have some privalege cause im enby, homoromantic and asexual, but the asexual part of me isn't really recognized as much as the gay part
i think you meant the bi spectrum (as in the MSPEC)? that includes bisexuals, pansexuals, polysexuals, omnisexuals, etc.
anyway, yeah, that’s true!
Ayyy another bi demisexual, I’m not alone!
I mean i think bi and ace people have solidarity bc theyre both non-monosexual (not attracted to just one gender) identities. Also ofc the bi-cycle
"We are everywhere" is a slogan that has been used in LGBT protests since the 70s or 80s. Similar to "we're here, we're queer, get used to it!" Showing that we are in every society and we've always been here. We are everywhere.

@@HiAndHello-w9l As another Ace Canadian, I can confirm that we have the space to welcome the rest of dragonkind.
I'm not even ace, and I feel this overweight urge to force those two sisters to read a biology textbook
(Also I dunno how much I can complain seeing as the worst I've gotten is a guy jokingly asking if my balls are blue cause I said I don't fancy wanking it lmao)
But anyway, keep at it.

I don't know if he is on the ace spectrum, I'm not really close with anyone.
I'm ace, and a former coworker of mine would always tell me he thought the ace flag was "the cutest pride flag ever."

How'd it Go?

Same, that’s what I assumed.
Oh, the same except even when it was abundant, I still had no idea it was a sexual innuendo. I only found out when a very nice person I was dating at the time explained it to me (it just happened to come up in conversation not as any kind of invitation or anything) and I was flabbergasted. this is awesome! always remember that ur valid and stay hydrated!
Good for you for figuring out some stuff! Welcome to the ace herd :)
Honestly though I feel like "character has no interest in sex until they meet main character man"
Like so many things have characters with great aroace vibes and then throw it out the window. I want your classic love triangle story except the female lead is aroace and the male leads end up dating each other at the end.
I'd love to read that!!!!!
You know, as a demi I think it's fine if they're ace until x person, we kinda need representation too you know. Demi's are also ace, as long as the char is established as ace it should still count.
@@pinkneko13 yeah, the problem is that they aren't going "they're demi" they're going "they were ace until they met the love interest"
i so want read a love triangle like that. Tho if u aren't playing with love triangles, if you make the leads ace, that will remove the romantic tension from the book which authors love to play with.
@@rishikarawat7680 good authors can write a captivating story without a love triangle.
Like alastor from hazbin hotel being confirmed aroace and still being put with characters in fanfiction
Like
When I went to the fanfiction for the show (a dangerous game to be playing as a sex repulsed ace because it's fanfiction and it's for a show that's already very sexualized but that's beside the point) one of the first ones I found was clearly gonna have alastor and angel be together
And it's like... Yes aros can have close relationships like that and aces can have sex
But
Is alastor really the type of person who'd do that? He gives me sex indifferent but still wouldn't do it with anyone vibes. The way I see it, he doesn't really care enough to be grossed out by it, but I also don't think he'd be willing to do it with most people. He's too powerful and therefore too good for them! Why would he waste his time with anyone else there?
Ooh, fellow hazbin hotel fan! I haven’t gone to the realms of fanfiction for it yet, but I’m really kinda sad to see Alastor being sexualized -_-
I hate it as well.
This world will always will be Acephobic against us Asexuals.
Almost every characters sexualty get played with in fanfiction though...
Jamie's reaction to discovering what the lyrics of "My milkshakes bring all the boys to the yard" means was absolutely adorable, and I am here for it. ♥
So many fun songs ruined...TIL that...
I didn’t learn this till I was 23 y/o and only because someone’s mom was complaining about it on tic tok or something…
As an asexual who very much enjoys sex the explanation of how liking sex doesn't mean you couldn't be asexual felt so validating. Thank you for that!
" You'll eventually have desires for other people "
As someone who's been taking care of themselves since he was 6, I can assure you that's incorrect lol
But I already have desires for these shrimp tacos right now?!? Do you want me to cheat!... Well maybe if you have brownies 😉
I prefer a desire for cheesecake or garlic bread, thank you.

I love Denmark, let's go
One percent of the world population is asexual 0.78 percent of the is italian. We can take over alot of the world
@@5randomyoutubers620 we can indeed
@@lesanimaux4416 Yeah... But their language also sounds like you're choking on a potato. Are you sure we can't invade Sweden instead?
explaining asexual jokes for non-aces:
-we like cake and garlic bread more than sex
-we like world domination (specifically Denmark cause there are more aces than danish ppl)
-we are dragons and or gods
-some of us wear the black ring (I do)
-we have an ace council, which has claimed any purple character
-all of this is canonical do not question use. Fear us.
Was checking on the progress of my pasta when you said the "shoutout to all my aromantic, asexual, agender people out there" line, and my brain had a weird little "That's me!!!" moment. (As I'm also Autistic, I like to joke that I'm collecting 'A's.)
ADHD is the next A!
Snap! I also found it really funny because I was collecting up ace playing cards and once I'd reached all four it was like, ah yes, all of my a's
Hello Donkeyturnip, I am also collecting A's. I am autistic, have ADD, I am agender and asexual Nice to meet you 😊
i am aroace, autistic, and have ADHD so i guess im AAAA
Update: My psychiatrist doesn't gave me the ADD diagnosis. But hey, I am still autistic, agender and asexual 😅
It's absolutely true that us aces don't get a lot of representation, and often, representation we do get sometimes gets taken away. I'm looking at you, Riverdale.
Thanks for looking out for us, Jaime!
Agreed lol
10:21 I'm aro/ace and boyflux (which means the intensity of masculinity I feel changes over time) meaning I can be fully male, demiboy or agender sooo
Edit: I just figured out I'm agender and pan, so ig I took one look at the world and said idc lol
took a look at the world, was like "sure" then later you were like "nah fuck this"
I love how there's just me - an asexual writer wannabe - that is struggling to write any romance at all and makes all my characters asexual as well
@@hauntedshadowslegacy2826 Leaving aside the feelings of those you said it to…
It is entirely understandable that you would find breasts interesting/nifty/appealing to touch, even if you have no interest in them as sexual organs.
Ngl a novel without/ little romance would be refreshing
Then make them all ace. It's not as if most straight authors bother adding anything other than straight romance, and one of character that says they are gay and then are never seen again
"character is ace until they meet other character" just sounds like the author forgot the word for demisexual
aromanticism and asexuality have become some of my greatest weapons since i came out.
-i once was the only person in my class to complete a math assignment because everyone else was talking about some bs relationship drama that happened
-i save considerable amounts of money on not going to prom/hoco/whatever
-i am immune to truth or dare
-not being distracted by "relationships" and "romance" has given me much more time to focus on the Sigma Grindset ™
The sigma grind set.

"Todd is the only ace human character I can think of" Jughead was literally the previous meme.
I did my Master's thesis about asexual representation in fiction, and Jughead got an entire chapter!
@@morganmeadowes6861 but it was also on the subject of mortal/human non-vilian characters, he is/was a vampire

“This character is asexual until they meet this other character”
Do you mean the character is grey ace? Or demi? Cause that’s the shit that actually happens
On that topic I’ve read some really great fanfics with grey/demi leads that were clearly either written by acespec people or by people that have spent time in the community
That example you gave gave me a mini panic because my bf is Demi and I'm Ace. My brain got confused and had a wtf is going on moment.

Nice! You're a true person of culture!
Yes I started watching it after watching a yt video about him being aroace and it's genuinely one of the funniest shows I've ever watched.
i haven't seen it yet but i know there's an asexual arromantic character in yagate kimi ni naru too, is maki and from a video i saw it looks like good human aro ace representation.
I’ll have to give that anime a try.

I adore that anime! It's my favourite one, I definitely kin Saiki :>
Jamie getting all excited over his little sweatshirt brings my heart _so. much. joy._
Explanations: The online ace community has a few very specific internal jokes. "Yeah, sex is cool, but have you ever had garlic bread/cake?" is one. Another one is "Since 1% of people are ace, the global ace population outnumbers the people of Denmark. We could take over Denmark."
So those are the inside jokes in those memes.
Oh thanks! I'm asexual but not familiar with the online ace community and I was like "uh??"
Here’s a cute story. I’m a cis woman, but a few months ago I was boredom bingeing all of Jamie’s old transition videos.

I still got that from my mom at age 30... xD At some point, mom, your argument is going to fall apart.
