A lot of people are lonely and want connections and as long as their pursuit of connection doesn't hurt them or others, why does it matter who or what form those connections takes? Edit: But yes, if they can't be polite they don't deserve cake (eat it all right in front of them) and should be pelted with stale garlic bread (although, how the bread remained uneaten long enough to get stale is a mystery even if it is substandard).

So I have a cute and funny story related to the last comic. I have a bi friend that tends to lean mostly sapphic in her affections. After quite a while of dating pretty much just girls, she met a sweet young man at a ren fair kind of place and they started dating. Some years later, the egg cracked. When my friend's partner came out to her, her response to her girlfriend was to stare blankly for a moment and then say "goddamn, maybe I really am just a lesbian". Turns out this is not the only person she has dated that turned out to be a trans woman not yet out of the closet. However, it did turn out to be the last. They are now grossly adorable wives that practice swordplay together and live with their big orange tom cat.
I had known someone for a year who had then identified as a lesbian girl (who was with a bi girl) but later came out as a trans guy. As I later said to him "so that means you're actually straight" he looked at me in utter surprise and said "Holy shit, you're right! I gotta tell my girlfriend!" which was adorable 😂
OMG THAT HAPPENED TO ME At first I was a lesbian cisgender, then I was a lesbian bigender (she/he), then I came out as trans. And my friends are like: Wait a damn minute… If you’re a guy, and you like girls… YOU’RE STRAIGHT!
My brother and his friend had a running gag that his friend was gay for years because teenage boys. Then she came out to us as a trans lesbian and we were really like "SO WE WERE RIGHT!". We love her
@@Jane-oz7ppshe is trans *AND* gay, kinda like that song from the legally blonde musical, where the guy is gay *AND* European, people can be multi faceted
Two things: The trans ≠ straight things has happened to me, I told my mom I had a lesbian friend and she was so confused because the friend was also trans. She was also *concerned* because I had had crushes on two trans people?? And then! Recently, my aunt came out as trans, and it's super sweet, my other aunt is super supportive and they still have such a sweet relationship, even if the cis aunt struggles with getting things right 100% of the time
That's happened to my BFF and I too. She's a trans lesbian, and I'm a trans-masc pan. We were already close friends before either of us came out, and now we joke that we've just traded genders. It's also frustrating that people wonder why we haven't hooked up already. It's like, dude, she's more or less my sister! And I'm not a woman anymore!
@@garyrandom7512 trans women are born as men but are now women like they always were( just now physically and mentally)when people call ot an illness they are evil.
When people ask me and/or my wife who "the man" is in the relationship, we respond; "we are both "the girl" in the relationship, that's kind of the point" 😉
I've actually flipped this around by mentioning the old boomer stereotype that the woman really runs the relationship. So "the man" is actually the woman of the house in most straight relationships. Teehee
I've always imagined that gaydar would sound like a soft, questioning "heeeeeeey?" and the closer you get to the gay person it would be a loud, positive HAAAY! (like an enthusiastic one you'd shout at your friend when you are surprised to see them)
I recently found out that I am also one of the asexuals who often don’t get the sexual meaning of things. My grandma kept talking about the nice man who moved in with their neighbor, played with her daughter and helped around the house. I thought for over two years that he was just living there. Turns out he‘s the neighbors boyfriend.
*OT voice* And they were roommates!! I'm sorry, I'm also an oblivious aroace who didn't even realise two of my housemates were dating for half a year. It just was too fitting not to make that joke
All throughout high school, when someone would say someone was cute, I got confused as why are you seeing them that way (I associated cute with dog or other small innocent furry, feathery or scaled animal). Whenever the word hot was used, I thought they were talking about someone having a fever, but always thought that didn't make sense based on the context of the conversation so my brain just decided to ignore it because it couldn't figure out it was an aesthetic attraction thing that I just don't experience. But yeah, I am also one of those aces.
I can understand the “technically or biologically” thing, although I ultimately disagree with that way of thinking about it. My fiancé is from a totally different culture than mine, so the topic of transness was pretty unfamiliar to him. He’s also REALLY analytically-minded. At first he did not understand why a trans guy would be gay if he likes guys and not straight because he’s like “well trans men and men, but being homosexual is about sex not gender” but when I compared it to adoption he understood perfectly. Because being a parent or being someone’s child is biological, it can also be social like with adoption. SOCIALLY they are parent and child and nobody is going to bring up biology because it’s irrelevant and hurtful to do so. They ARE parent and child. The same can be said about gay trans people. Why would we bring up a trans person’s biology every time their sexual orientation came up? That’s just rude and weird. We call them gay because socially, they are.
I love collecting explanations like this, for I am cursed with many people in my life who simply do not understand and my brain doesn't always have the capacity to make the metaphors make sense. This one is doubly perfect because I am in fact adopted😂 Thank you so much for sharing!!
Even then biology is a lot more complicated than people assume. After a while on hrt (not that you need it to be valid), your body appears and behaves a lot more like the "opposite" sex, so calling trans women/men "biological males/females" is inaccurate.
This is a good explanation, I like it a lot. But also, I would argue that being gay IS about gender, not about sex. Very few things related to human interaction are actually about sex, the exceptions being reproduction and some health issues.
RIGHT? Like, honestly, when I was younger and people asked me if I f***ed cookwear, it got tiring, but these days I just embrace that shit, and the "non-stick pan" was honestly well thought out and punny as hell!
I like the name-changing booth idea. Before I knew I was trans (FTM), my brother and I would spin and it even had a whole theme song about changing names. When you wanted to change your name. We'd hold hands and spin around, and after a couple spins your name was magically changed singing: " at the name changing plaaaacceee". I had always hated my name. He is still amazing and we are very close. I am lucky.
That last one really hit my heart. My late wife was straight and when I came out she struggled for a bit about what it meant to be a straight woman who was in love with a woman, but came to the conclusion that I was still the same person and she still loved me. We had planned on going out on a date together as a same gender couple once COVID had calmed down, but then she succumbed to the liver disease that had lain dormant in her for years.
That last one with the couple reminds me of the Magnus Chase series by Rick Riordan (who wrote Percy Jackson - it's like that but Norse mythology)! *SPOILERS* There's a genderfluid character, and their love interest (who'd assumed he was a straight guy) ends up kissing them in both boy-mode and girl-mode and going "Oh, I guess I'm not as straight as I thought", it's so wholesome. Really recommend that series!
I started T three weeks ago, going to my parents' house tomorrow with a friend to tell them I'm trans after hiding it for 8 years wish me luck. cute video as always Jamie
Matt Walsh recently made a video on aces and aros where he said literally all of the phobic stuff in that cartoon. It was the first time I've personally experienced arophobia so blatantly (yes, I know I'm lucky). But I figure if I'm pissing off Matt Walsh just by existing, that's a win, right?
I'm guessing the name shoppe thing was that the clerk went "really? That one again?" because Lily really sounds like it'd be real common among trans women, right up there with Lilith and Luna Don't worry girls I love that name too, I have a Hunter: the Reckoning character lined up whose name is Lily and I didn't even think of that when I wrote her. She also goes by Lilith when performing so I'm double dipping into that "popular trans girls' names" pile lmao
I don't hang out with... well, anyone really, so I don't know many trans women personally, but just in terms of UA-cam I can name two trans women named Lily (plus one Lilith) so this tracks. Was checking the comments to see if anyone else thought this was what that joke meant, glad to see I wasn't totally off base!
I'm trans myself (mtf) and I get so much crap from my customers no matter what I do but have learned there's nothing anyone can do to stop me from being me ❤
This is a dumb story but I just remembered. I'm ace. And I was talking to a friend about TV shows I don't remember the specifics but he said. "There was a Bone Scene." and I got Excited because I thought he meant there was a scene in which the focus was Bones for some reason and after I got excited he had to clarify that he meant a Sex Scene because he knew there was no way I suddenly got hype about a sex scene. I don't usually think about being Ace very often but that was one of the very few moments that I became Painfully Aware of my Ace-hood.
My friend doesn’t know I am not cishet, and the things people will say when they just, expect that, always trips me up. Like no, I was not even considering how their gender related to physical compatibility, I completely forget that people will just experience sexual attraction right away and start talking about it, like my guy I was thinking they would be fun to hang out with i was not picturing their crotch and mine and jumping to scenarios or judgements related to that
When I came out to my friends as NB, they all told me "oh yeah, we already knew, we were just waiting for you to be ready to tell us" and it honestly made me cry 🥺
Hi Jammie with the help of you this morning I came out as "Non Binary" and I originally found out about your channel from the original r/LGBallT and I'm happy that on this day you posted this, It makes my day. 😊
My cousin came out to me as MTF & I was just like "ok, &?" I kind of felt like I didn't give them the reaction that they were looking for. But my muted response was from confusion because of all the build up. It felt like it was going to something along the line of "I just found out that I have an inoperable brain tumor & will be dead within 12 weeks." & then all that it is is that you are trans?
10:44 As someone who's name is Lily, I feel honored that someone likes the name enough to choose it for themselves, but be prepared for it to ALWAYS be spelled as Lilly.
Really needed this video today, being reminded why you've cut off certain ppl in your life always hurts. Glad I chose peace of mind and self respect over false harmony. I refuse to let others make me doubt who I am. Thank you Jamie!
The last one reminded me of my wife and I. My wife is a trans women, when we were in high school our friend group called her a lesbian. It was just a joke at the time, now she's a lesbian. She told me that she actually liked that joke because it was gender confirming at a time before the egg cracked. Also when I came out to my mom about my wife being trans, she assumed we would break up. I was like "hell no what!? 🤨"
3:20 If I learned ONE THING from OT, it's sounds, so it clearly makes: *gaydar noises*. *gaydar noises*. *these are the sounds of a gaydar*. Edit: And now it's also in the video...
disabled enby panesxual here, me and my mom have been watching you for years and your more precious than i can explain. i'm so happy we can all say aww with you and at you it truly brightens my day
@Science Bear i think you may be looking at the wrong post, although if something i said was homophobic i apologize i was just happy to support a creator Iv like for years
That last one reminds me of when I came out to my boyfriend almost 2 years ago. He is straight, I am a trans guy. He asked me what I wanted to do with transition and I told him I only wanted top surgery and hormones. He sat on that for a while before asking if I wanted bottom surgery. I told him I didnt because the results that I've seen just look like they'd give me more dysphoria. "I think we can still make this work. I'm not into guys but I still love you and that will never change. If you do decide you want to get bottom surgery I will break up with you, but i will always be here for you and take care of you during recovery". I still don't want bottom surgery and we are still together. It was awkward at first because he wasnt all that comfortable with calling me his boyfriend. But almost 2 years later that's all he calls me. Anytime he says my deadname is when I specifically ask him to, other than that he only ever calls me Adam or an asshole hhaa. Hes not sexually attracted to men, I understand that, but I am so happy he found it in his heart to still love me even though I'm a guy
9:35 reminds me a lot of my rabbi I had always worn a dress to synagogue (I was allowed a suit or anything as long as it was dressed up) but after not going for an entire summer (and coming out and slowly gaining acceptance w/ fam) I showed up in a button up and slacks, he pulled me aside after service and was like “is your name still *deadname*?” When I said no and he confirmed I was a boy (I’m now aware I’m enby-ish) he lectured both mom and I about how scholars are reviewing and realizing the Torah isn’t homophobic and stuff. I was very sweet 💜💜
2:17 This is so painfully accurate and I just sent it to my best friend (trans) and my partner and now we’re all laughing 😂 I even asked my friend if she made it because we’ve had talks just like this 🤣
I'm very aroace, but I do experience a weird sort of attraction that I just call celebrity crushes. I mentioned to a friend "I feel weirdly attracted to big doofuses named Brad, and aloof bass players named Rob, and Hannah Gadsby," and she, without pause, said, "You're a nonstick pan." Funniest thing anyone's ever said to me, more nonstick pan jokes, please!
This doesn’t have anything to do with the video, but I want to tell someone, and it is lgbt related, so why not share it here. I’VE DECIDED TO COME OUT TO MY DAD OVER SPRING BREAK!! I’m so excited and so nervous but (unlike my mom) I think he’ll be supportive because as long as what we do isn’t illegal or really bad he doesn’t care what we do or who we are. Wish me luck y’all!!
2:04 this reminds me when my friends were playing egyptian war (or russian war. i’ve heard it both ways). one rule is if it’s a joker then you can slap it immediately and you get the cards. a lot of us would hit the aces because at first glance they looked like jokers. so after a couple times of that happening i said “the aces are very slappable” and my friend (who i’ve come out to) fake slapped me. i was confused for a couple seconds then realized she’s slapping me because i’m ace and yk lol. i still find it so funny. good memories.
the amount of times that I've gone to bed crying bc ppl have called me : 'priss' 'prude', and once one that was so bad I am not going to write it here. this is why us aces love garlic bread and cake more than people. Garlic bread doesn't insult you.
10:49 They don't look mad, just kinda let down. Because Lily is by far the most common name for transfems, apparently. And the name shoppe was hoping for this one to choose something more original.
Came here to say this! I’m genderfluid and transfem. I chose the name Lilian when I hatched for personal reasons and found out a few months later how common of a name Lily was.
I was told in my childhood I wasn't feminine enough and was constantly shoved into dresses I hated. Now I came out as trans male (still a process😅) and have happily given my dresses to a queer friend of mine who loves them. Can't wait to get my new wardrobe of male clothes😍 Screw my parents. I've been much more mentally stable and stress less since I came out cause I know where they stand.
I’m actually going to my first protest later this month, which I’m kind of helping organize actually! I’ve actually got a zoom call with the organization today, really hope it goes well and i’m super excited and scared at the same time lil
It's uncanny how much you remind me of my oldest brother. (he was a good looking guy, it is a compliment). One of the answers to Transphobia is education. You're doing your part. Good video.
I use both pan and bi to describe myself, and once my uncle said to me "so if gay people have gaydar, do pan people get panavision?" amd it was the first pan pun that i actually laughed at because it was the first unique one i heard
I needed this, there is a terf touring the country giving speeches and violence breaking out between the transphobes and people in support of humans having rights. I felt the invalidation down to my bones.
Lovely video! I wanted to mention that right now there is a Trans book/author readathon going on in the bookish community! On the week of the 20th of March, people will be reading as many books by trans authors or with trans rep in them as they can and pledging donations to causes that help trans people- specifically in the U.S. right now. If you want some recommendations for this, here they are: Specifically books that include trans rep: Hell followed with us, Her Majesty’s Royal Coven, Cemetery Boys, and Felix Ever After! Plus Jammie’s book of course- Overall queer rep: Our Wives Under the Sea, Priory of the Orange Tree (and it’s sequel), We Have Always Been Here, Swimming in the Dark, Call Me By Your Name, This is How You Lose a Time War, The Binding, The Drowning Empire trilogy, She Who Became the Sun (and it’s sequel coming out in August!!), The Starless Sea, These Violent Delights, The Jasmine Throne, Six of Crows, Song of Achilles, Heartstopper, It Came From the Closet, and Red, White, and Royal Blue. Wow that was a lot to type lol that’s all folks! Have a wonderful day ❤️🏳️⚧️
Since you've got Heartstopper on there, can I add Loveless for aroace, pansexual, lesbian and homoromantic asexual non-binary representation. Also, Baker Thief for demi-bisexual and aro-bisexual bigender representation plus a queerplatonic love story. It's also generally a very queernormative world full of neopronouns and subtle trans and other types of queer representation
Also Magical Boy, which riffs on the magical girl trope. Check Please! Is an adorable gay romance with hockey and baking. A-Okay is another graphic novel with ace themes. Ana On the Edge is a good kids' novel about an enbee figure skater. And after this video, I can no longer write "enbee" without thinking "en🐝" 😹
OMG 9:21 IS MY COMICCCCCC. never thought i would be in one of jammis videos, even if it is in comic form :D (also don't worry, that was one of the experiences i had when i was like 16-17, i'm almost 23, my uncle is still wonderful and my mom is getting there as well 😊) edit: and also yes jammi, that's exactly how i imagine confused but happy trans noises sound like haha
My husband (Ace) laughed soooo hard at the "Actually, people are getting colder" one... it's so true! He is wonderfully oblivious sometimes, but at least no longer feels like there's something wrong with him. We're proof that those who are bi and ace can blend perfectly 🥰
Trans guy here- Your always here to pick me up, always uploading videos when I’m at my darkest. thank you! And also off topic, but this is the video in which my YT premium kicked in so this one’s extra special for me :D
i think the name store with the name lily is just that it's an extremely common choice for transfems. lily or luna seem to be like, the go-to names for so many girls lol so it's kinda like going to a nice restaurant and ordering a cheeseburger. but hey, if that's what you like, go for it!
Years back on IRC a longtime member came out as trans, she picked Lilian which I felt really suited her, only later did I find it was a cliché. I guess there's also the aspect that lilies are often used as symbolism in yuri manga, so at least some people are carrying that over to their name. That detail occurred to me a week later, so it's probably pretty stealth against most people.
I'm a bisexual who married a pansexual. We talked about our identities, understand why we chose the label we chose, and we are both cool with it. I just feel more comfortable calling myself bisexual than pansexual but I totally respect my partner and anyone who feels more comfortable with the pansexual label. It's all love in the end!
Nice to see some heteroflexible rep. For those who don’t know, that means you mostly have opposite gender attraction, but very rarely, you are attracted to someone of the same gender.
11:24 As an aroace it’s even more complicated because in my fantasies I’m doing straight things but IRL I don’t want any sex or romance with anyone. So what would that be called?
I did not know you existed until this video got recommended, but oh my God I'm definitely subbing. This has also made me realize that I know very few of the flags despite being a part of the lgbtq community
The "Lily" one referred to Lily being a super popular and common name in the transfem community. Probably roughly the equivalent of Kai for trans dudes.
I appreciate your support so much!!! Me and some of my friends go to a private Christian school and the teachers are making us all sign a homophobic and transphobic belief statement or else we have to leave schools. I wish we could just be supported😢
That last one reminded me of a story about a married couple, where the wife found out she was a lesbian about the same time the husband found out he was trans, and they have been much happier as a gay couple than ever before
Just came out as ftm to my mom & currently hiding in my room, she's ok with it yes, but I'm still scared & your videos have been a huge help, I'm so glad I found you channel, alot of the time your videos always find a way to make me happy
At 5:33 I believe this is relevant especially tot he comic he’s just covered, but there’s a lot of confusion on if there are any differences in pansexuals versus bisexuals. I like to boil it down to with pansexuality you’re attracted to a person, it doesn’t matter their gender or body, while bisexuals can have a preference and are more attracted to a persons body. This is how I explain it to people who ask anyways. If any bisexuals think my explanation is inaccurate (I’m pan), then by all means correct me.
I usually explain pan is attraction regardless of gender and bi is attraction to the same and other genders (and that attraction may vary for each gender). But to be fair, both are simply terms to describe a part of the spectrum so there are differences even under that umbrella and they may overlap. I identify as bi and i don't think i am more attracted to a person's body, personally (then again i may also lean towards gray-ace). My friend identifies as pan and we've talked about this. It's mostly just what term you feel comfortable with *shrugs*
I relate a lot to the last memes as I am a gay person who had crushes with transfemmes and enbies pre transition and I figured this attraction will go away but it didn't and I'm like : guess I'm a bit bisexual now :p Here are hugs if you want some.
I'm femme-presenting AFAB genderfae (fluid between feminine and non-binary genders) and it's funny sometimes dating men who thought they were straight then watching them slowly realise - although I have been informed that being under the genderfluid umbrella means all of my relationships are automatically gay.

"HEY GIRL HEY!"
That is actually a really good way of explaining it to someone who doesn't understand, but is still curious. Gold star.
I love collecting explanations like this, for I am cursed with many people in my life who simply do not understand and my brain doesn't always have the capacity to make the metaphors make sense.
This one is doubly perfect because I am in fact adopted😂
Thank you so much for sharing!!
@@jadelinny yeah, I was kind of thinking about that as I was typing it out. They are kind of both about gender.

I like the name-changing booth idea. Before I knew I was trans (FTM), my brother and I would spin and it even had a whole theme song about changing names. When you wanted to change your name.

9:35 reminds me a lot of my rabbi
I had always worn a dress to synagogue (I was allowed a suit or anything as long as it was dressed up) but after not going for an entire summer (and coming out and slowly gaining acceptance w/ fam) I showed up in a button up and slacks, he pulled me aside after service and was like “is your name still *deadname*?” When I said no and he confirmed I was a boy (I’m now aware I’m enby-ish) he lectured both mom and I about how scholars are reviewing and realizing the Torah isn’t homophobic and stuff. I was very sweet 💜💜

I believe this is relevant especially tot he comic he’s just covered, but there’s a lot of confusion on if there are any differences in pansexuals versus bisexuals.
6:47 i want a hug from the support team :)
A year late, but here's a hug for you anyways !
