    In 2023, over 200 liver disease experts from around the world made a very important decision during six meetings. It’s a decision you may not have noticed, but it’s incredibly significant.
    What was the decision? They officially renamed Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD), a condition affecting one-third of the global population, to Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD). MASLD, pronounced somewhat like “may-saw” in English, represents a shift in the understanding of this disease.
    To make it easier for explanation, we’ll refer to MASLD simply as fatty liver.
    Why is this name change important? It marks the medical community’s formal recognition that fatty liver is a metabolic disease, caused mainly by unhealthy lifestyle habits, particularly poor diet. Borrowing a common phrase used before, doctors used to say, "Fatty liver is related to metabolic dysfunction." Now, they can confidently say, “Fatty liver is a metabolic dysfunction.”
    When we develop fatty liver, our liver experiences metabolic issues that lead to fat accumulation in liver cells, which in turn damages these cells and causes fibrosis.
    The good news is that since fatty liver is caused by poor habits, it means that by completely changing these bad habits-especially dietary habits-most cases of fatty liver can be reversed.
    Don’t underestimate the harm fatty liver can cause to your health. It can progress to cirrhosis and liver cancer, and it also doubles the risk of cardiovascular disease, increases cardiovascular mortality by 44%, and raises cancer risk by 33%.
    If a cancer patient also has fatty liver, their overall mortality rate increases by 2.5 times, and cancer mortality increases by 3.2 times.
    So, starting now, don’t just brush off fatty liver as an insignificant finding in your health checkup. Take action immediately.
    Of course, reversing fatty liver involves basic steps like exercising and losing weight, but there are also other effective methods. In this video, I’ll share seven dietary ways to reverse fatty liver, including three things to avoid and four things to include in your diet. Make sure to watch until the end!
    Before we begin, a quick note: today we’re only focusing on fatty liver caused by metabolic dysfunction. Two other important liver conditions-alcoholic liver disease and liver diseases caused by viruses-are outside today’s discussion, and I’ll cover them in future videos. Today, let’s focus on correcting metabolic dysfunction and reversing fatty liver caused by it.
    Method 1: Reduce foods high in fructose
    It's said that over 2,000 years ago, chefs in the Roman Empire fed geese sweet fruits to produce delicious, fatty goose liver-which is essentially fatty liver. Sweet foods have long been part of human culture, but they have led us to consume too much sugar, particularly fructose, which is the most harmful to our health.
    Fructose and glucose are both simple sugars, but our bodies react to them very differently. Nearly all of our cells can use glucose for energy, but fructose is different-our cells can’t burn fructose for energy. The liver has to handle it, converting fructose into triglycerides and storing them, eventually leading to fatty liver.
    In one study, people who consumed the same calories from fructose versus glucose had double the amount of fat accumulation in their liver.
    So what’s the solution? The best strategy is to reduce your intake of sweets and sugary drinks. If you really need something sweet, try replacing sweets with fruit or look for foods flavored with natural sweeteners like xylitol, inulin, or arabinose, which don’t cause the same issues as sugar.
    Method 2: Eat fewer ultra-processed foods
    Ultra-processed foods, like candy, cookies, soda, instant noodles, burgers, fries, and pizza, often contain high amounts of fructose and other additives that overburden the liver. Studies show that people who frequently eat ultra-processed foods have a 20% higher risk of developing fatty liver.
    Method 3: Avoid unnecessary medications
    Certain medications, like steroids, NSAIDs, antibiotics, statins, and antifungal drugs, can contribute to fatty liver. When using these, aim for the lowest effective dose or explore alternatives with your doctor.
    Method 4: Increase intake of healthy fats, especially omega-3 fatty acids
    Despite sounding counterintuitive, healthy fats can improve liver function. Omega-3 fatty acids, found in foods like fish and flaxseed, help reduce inflammation in the liver and prevent fat accumulation.
    Method 5: Supplement with probiotics
    The gut-liver connection is strong. Supplementing with probiotics, particularly strains like Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium, can restore gut health and reduce liver inflammation, aiding in the reversal of fatty liver.
    Method 6: Consume foods rich in Vitamin E
    Vitamin E has been shown to protect the liver and reduce fat accumulation. Aim to get at least 15 mg of Vitamin E per day from foods like almonds or sesame oil.
    Method 7: Drink coffee
    The polyphenols in coffee, particularly chlorogenic acid, help protect liver cells and improve fat metabolism. Studies suggest that drinking at least three cups of coffee per day can have a positive effect on fatty liver. However, if you’re sensitive to caffeine, this method might not be suitable for you.
    In summary, these seven methods, combined with weight loss and regular exercise, can help reverse fatty liver. If needed, consult your doctor about medications like silymarin, which can also help reduce liver inflammation and fat buildup.

    影片中講的大致正確 補充好的油脂 少吃果糖...等
    脂肪肝是可以逆轉的 不外乎禁酒 限糖及醣(碳水化合物) 水果量限制 不要熬夜
    適當規律有氧運動 就可以慢慢逆轉脂肪肝
    也就是飲食控制加適度規律有氧運動
    目前脂肪肝還未出現特效藥
    但有一點可以肯定的是減重絕對能改善脂肪肝
