When I was 22 back in 79.y buddy worked in Saudi Arabia driving a concrete truck for pepper const..came back bought a 67 convertible red black top. Straight 6 it was a blast ripping around the country side at night top down ..summer nights in July great memories. Didn't no it then. But I sure miss those days .
Holy CheeseHead Batman! The amount of bolts you have to remove and keep track of are making me have a panic attack on this side of the camera...I am tremendously impressed with your effort and ability to keep all of that organized. What is your method of being able to store and catalog the parts? I really did not see how you set aside the parts, but I feel like you have a floor, bench, and all available space filled with the pieces of that puzzle.
Great video really enjoyed watching, I did a 5 year mechanics apprenticeship with a Ford Main Dealer here in the UK 1970 to 75, am now retired but still mad on cars and enjoy watching your videos
I've done quite a few repairs on a few friends jaguars. They keep trying to get me to buy one. I'm sending this one to them to show why I don't want one
there are a few specialists in the uk doing amazing things with these engines . if you want to tidy up the engine bay slightly lose the airpump also check all the plastic parts in the bosch fuel injection system it's normally those that cause problems.
Having been through these engines (many times) your doing a good job. They are excellent engines, but it's always the German plastic crap that fails on the Bosch fuel injection. I usually delete the air pump which serves no purpose and cleans up the engine compartment. The cylinder head studs are always "fun".
I had to laugh/cry when I saw the tile here, I had an XJ-6 like that come into my workshop back in the 1980s and boy was that a fun job, I had first fabricate an extra long drill and tap for extra reach to drill and tap out the block to replace most of those studs that just broke undoing the head bolts. A massive job and to make it worse the arsehole that owned the car bounced the cheque on me and did a runner.
I had to use an engine hoist to lift my cylinder heads out of my truck when i did my top end in my driveway lol. 02' Silverado 8.1L Big Block iron heads are heavy.
My God! I could get it apart like that, but not sure I'd have patience to put back together 🤣 PS- do they sell Cylinder head bolts you can replace those studs/nuts with? Why would they use nuts instead of bolts 🤔
Err was the water BROWN..? If so, then yes your head gasket is bad. Also this will impact the water pump heavily on these cars. Please please flush that nasty water out..... Corrosion is the enemy here. good video bud. If I ever look at A car, I always check the water. If its brown WALK AWAY!!!!
You may want to keep this car when you are done. I can only imagine the amount of blood you have physically lost with knuckle scrapes and cuts. Also the sentimental values/ looks of the car
OMG, at this point mIght as well remove the entire engine and do a complete rebuild, spraying the engineblock in a nice color and put chrome valvecovers and airfilterhousing on it.
I grew up in the 80's and saw my friends' parents get fascinated with British cars only to sell them off because they were constantly being repaired. The MG's were notorious for breaking down every week
If doing work you never done before, use phone and take photos of each stage, im a mechanic but did this since digital cameras first came out and before that made rough drawings
The answer is: "do not buy a jaguar". There is a reason why local european markets are full of pristine garage cars selling for 1 and 2k. and nobody buys them :)
i can turn a wrench but a job like this i have no interest in !! i always wondered when motors llike these were new what joe joe would rebuild a nightmare like this ??? id rather hand out drinks to a lot of Karen's in the morning ...this job is hard to watch is it a FUN JOB for you ?

Usually your videos have a calming effect. This one has me stressed out!
hahaha have no fear it'll be all right at the end.
Wow that was impressive! Thanks for taking us along and look forward for more on this repair and project!
Patient man, so much work. Kudos to you!

We had a totaled Camaro that made a great drivetrain conversion for our old XJ.
"Reassembly is reverse of removal" as the books say :-). Luckily, these days, you can play the video backwards and have a hope of success!

You are a brave man taking on the jag but I bet you are having nightmares now lol great videos keep up the good work brother
My old co worker bought a jag that “Just” needed a head gasket, 4 years later it’s been in apart in his garage
Real good video . Where did you learned all these stuff your knowledge and experience seems like impressive . Can you make a video on this?

Looking forward to see it up and running
Perfect timing as I've been looking got an XJS to play with. What a mess. I can see why people install 350's.
I'd rather sew my head to the carpet than buy a Jaquar
😂😂😂

K&W block sealer works every time
This was when Jaguar made good cars
Shame. Such large and nice shop and still no dedicated beer fridge.🍺🍺
Great video 😊
When di we replace head bolts or replace please explain
Boy what a nightmare. I hate this car.
Any modern car would be a bigger nightmare.
@@JetFire9old cars have their own set of headaches

Is fixing this worse than the 2.7 Audi??
I grew up in the 80's and saw my friends' parents get fascinated with British cars only to sell them off because they were constantly being repaired. The MG's were notorious for breaking down every week
And to think I thought this would be complicated. I would be in an asylum!!
At this point you might as well drop in an GM Atlas 4.2L.
No way I would remember putting it back together lol
If doing work you never done before, use phone and take photos of each stage, im a mechanic but did this since digital cameras first came out and before that made rough drawings
Good luck putting that all back together..what a nightmare..
👍👍
send the head to the machine shop. after 40 years and 180k it needs to be gone thru.
Jags are endless money pits. Good looking car though. They're also known to have electrical problems. I'd never own one.
❤
It's a seller, not a keeper? Just drop some Bar's in it, that'll work (Joking, don't do it!)
Damn, what a "hec "😢
head gasket job from HELL!

I'd slap an LS in it.😊
I would be pissed.

First!!!! :)😃
Typical Jag in my experience.
Absolute nope from me.
I hate this engine already , and i am only 15 min in the video

I wouldn't say its FUN, its just a challenge. I guess I get a bit of enjoyment when the challenge is done.
@@myRatchets is this a by the job price or by the hour price ? if you were doing it for green backs ?
By the hour price as it can get pretty deep when/if things break etc.
Just buy a new car
