      According to Honcho (Bubba Gump), Dom Pedro has him dug up once a year, cuts some pieces off of him and puts him back in the ground.
      We can assume Honcho doesn't really know the whole story, and we don't ever find out who Dom Pedro is. But it is likely that The Ghoul spends some time above ground, and some time under ground. I figure he comes up once a year, has some adventure, makes some money, buys the things a ghoul needs, and then goes back in the ground.

      @@SciPunk215 It's Don Pedro. Don was originally a title given to Spanish nobles (much like the English Sir or Lord) and came to be used as a sign of respect given to the leader of an organisation by Spanish and Italian speakers (ie. Don Corleone in The Godfather).
      The music cue suggests that the Ghoul is somewhere in Mexico (probably Baja California) when we first meet him at the end of episode 1 and likely tried and failed to claim a bounty someone had put on the Don with the Don then deciding that the Ghoul should suffer a much publicised fate worse than death as a warning to others which is how Honcho knew where to find him.

    Keep in mind that the game setting not only has an alternate-history technology development path, but also that the technology developed has a healthy dose of *weird science*. 😁
    If it were straight science, Cooper would've died of cancer and not become a ghoul -- but mutant ghouls are *much* more fun than cancer. 😎🤠

    No, no. You’re raising a good point with the whole ‘is everyone on the surface from the vaults’ question.
    And the answer is no, there were definitely non-vault survivors, whether they were like the family in the opening scene of episode 1, where they had a fallout shelter for private use, or if they were lucky to live on the fringes of a blast zone, or just lost the mutation lottery and ended up a Ghoul.
    The bombs may’ve killed 99 percent of the unprotected population of the country, but in a nation of millions that would still leave one survivor in a hundred, or 10,000 survivors for every million people… and if there’s one thing life does, it’s survive challenges.

    When Titus talks about remnant tech that turns out to be toaster ovens, be aware that there’s a logic behind that. The retro future of Fallout had downright mastered the miniaturization of nuclear power. Tons of household appliances had internal nuclear power cells, cars were atomic (to the point that you didn’t get gas at service stations, you got coolant to keep the car’s internal reactor functioning properly), and cities could be run from fusion power cells the size of an Arizona Iced Tea can that costs 99 cents.

    Some lore info: the scientist and his dog at the beginning escaped from the Enclave, remnants of the US government and recurring villains from the games, the dogs were likely just trained to be attack dogs. The Ghoul's kind the shopkeep mentioned are ghouls, people who survived huge amounts of radiation and wind up looking like either Freddy Kruger or rotting zombies, the show will explain more in a later episode. people living on the surface after the bombs dropped is probably the most realistic thing abt fallout tbh, after the us nuked Hiroshima to end ww2, over 90% of the city was destroyed and over 140,000 people died, and within a decade the city had completely recovered to its before the bombing population (obv there were still lots of higher cancer rates and birth defects because of the bomb, but it was still survivable)

      Unlike a reactor leak where lethal amounts of radiation will hang around for decades or even centuries a nuclear bomb detonation converts a lot of the radiation into energy.

    • @AnonEyeMouse
      @AnonEyeMouse 2 місяці тому

      It was also an air blast, detonated before it landed, meaning it didn't blast a huge plume of radioactive dirt across half of Japan. The surface dirt was easier to clean up and the radioactive debris removed. If the nukes hit ground then the fallout (the radioactive debris) spreads over a vast area and irradiates everything. It's why one of the biggest fears of radiological weapons is the dirty bomb. A conventional explosive that does use a criticality event, but just throws vast amounts of highly radioactive powder over everything.

      @@Hohum37 Do you think the difference in gaming styles could be a factor? League is a MOBA, while Fallout is more of an RPG. I completely agree with you, but I’m curious to hear your thoughts on why that might be 👀

    • @Hohum37
      @Hohum37 2 місяці тому +2

      @@artxroyalty The gameplay of LOL doesn't really have anything serious to contribute to storytelling - while the lore, which doesn't have any effect in game afaik, does at least provide a framework. I think Christian and Alex decided to forge a new path, because being too constrained by the source probably wouldn't have worked.
      Fallout, on the other hand, is overflowing with it's own style - and it's the style that has made it so popular. It very much needed to keep it that way.
      So, I agree, it's because one is a MOBA and the other is an RPG.
      Looking at this the other way... people who try out the Fallout games because they loved the show, will get what they expect. People who do the same with Arcane and LOL would see something almost unrecognisable. I do hold out hope for the long awaited RIOT MMORPG though.

    If there was a nuclear war there would be some places in the US that would probably not be hit by bombs and could survive in a more local manner. The attack would hit major military bases and important logistic locations. Seattle, L.A., San Diego and everything in 50 miles of them would be vaporized on the west coast. Everything from El Paso to Austin to New Orleans would be gone. South East from Central Florida to Baltimore would also be destroyed. Chicago to Nashville out to Salt Lake City and Missoula Montana would probably be OK.

    Our scientist with the dog is from a group called the Enclave. They’re descended from America’s pre-war government elite and have a superiority complex, believing they have to right to lord over post war America and kill any population that does not fit with their vision for the future. It seems Dr. Wilzig had a change of heart. The Enclave are known to have some of the most advanced technology in the wastes, in fact the Brotherhood of Steel got all their helicopters from the Enclave after beating them in a war. The average wastelander tends to think of an Enclave member the way a real person might think of a nazi; combine that with the fact Dr. Wilzig is likely carrying advanced technology, it’s no wonder there are so many bounties for him, even if he left the Enclave.

      "Fallout" world differs from ours, in some areas it less advanced - transistors (microelectronics) in that world was invented right before the bombs were dropped (in 2077), as I remember, in some - they were a lot more advanced, than we are now. We splitted right after WW2, but bombs were dropped in 2077 - it's a lot of time. They had atomic energy revolution - so, they had a lot of cheap available energy, in all sizes. Even theirs small devices are powered by atomic energy sources. For years, decades, centuries, without the need to refueling. Even their bombs are smaller, than ours. Ours have WAY MORE POWER than theirs. Their are just... Ok. Tiny, on ours scale.
      Ours, even TINY nuclear bomb just wipes all the city in seconds. COMPLETELY.
      Ours "normal" bomb wipes the state. Almost completely.
      So, no one mustn't have such power. But some have and not just "good guys".

    • @Zal0gin
      @Zal0gin 2 місяці тому +1

      So, they had a lot of cheap energy. It's good. But they hadn't a cause to advance - why? Energy is enough. You don't need much oil, you can do anything, It's literally golden age!
      But, than, after some time, your resources, even oil, started finishing. And you don't have advanced technologies to find a new one. And, if you have bigger population, you need more resources.
      Tensions began. In the end, US annexed Canada (resources!!!), China tried to seize Alaska, but, after heavy fight, couldn't (Coop was there. When he was in the Marine. He is a veteran). USA and China become the enemies.
