    as an avid Fallout player a few things - the bombs drop on 23 Oct 2077, the culmination of a 10 year war between the US and China.
    after WW2 the Fallout universe split from ours, the aesthetic being a future vision from the 1950's perspective. the micro chip is never invented but atomic energy is fully harnessed. Robots and energy weapons are invented and atomic vehicles become commonplace. By 2077 the world is fast running out of resources and the only non war torn parts of the world are North America and Most of China (a small portion currently occupied by US). this series nails the Fallout *feel*.
    another thing, Ella Purnell has appeared in two tv series based on video games and has *stapled* her wounds in both of them.
    enjoy 😄
    Ghouls btw, are radiation victims that have mutated. they have very long lives and yes, in game there are many ghouls from the war. there's also other ways to become a ghoul...

    Fun reaction.
    The series best decision is to not try and be realistic, it follows game logic, the needle Lucy stabs herself with is a stim-pac and just like the game it heals you.
    Lucy had no weapon options other than the dart gun because the raiders cleaned out the armory, when Lucy go's into it the racks are all empty.
    There are security guards, that is who tripped the guy that gets sliced in two by the door.
    No one is watching the vault exit because vault dwellers tend to follow the rules and don't go up there, also you need a gatekeeper to open the doors which is what Chet is.

    Short answer about the Ghoul. Ghouls are mutants that for some reason or another (Not fully explained in lore yet) didn't die when exposed to radiation but instead end up with full body cancer and end up fictionally immortal, they don't really die of old age. Radiation heals them, but too much radiation can rot their brain and make them go feral.

    You're asking the right questions that will be answered this season.
    Although rewatch Lucy in the armory, the tranq gun was all that was left. The armory had been raided (by the raiders because, well, y'know, the name🤣).
    Yes, we do follow the 3 main characters and when they meet up ... 🔥🔥🔥!
    Note, they are hunting the man. The dog is just a way to identify him. A man with a dog. Notice what kind of pets most people have.
    Lastly, a character in episode 2 will return in the penultimate episode and implications for the season will be mind-blowing.😱😱😱

    Another small game logic point - when Chet sees the raider take an inhaler hit after his "Sir, don't make me have to use violence," line, he has an "Oh sh!t" reaction because in game there are a number of craft-able stims that "slow time" or enhance battle response, and they look like that. Not that Chet should know that, but hey... lol. As far as ghouls, they'll reveal a bit but not really explain them (like the game doesn't either) but it's just an in-game fiction thing that can happen under specific (read: often plot convenient) circumstances with radiation exposure.

    Maximus is a player who has already played a bit. He knows that life is not a fairy tale. Ideologically devoted to the brotherhood. He believes that only they can bring order to the world.
    Ghoul is an old experienced player, practically unbeatable. Life has given him a hard time and he knows what the game is all about. He has completed the game more than once. Couple of things you should know about this show, that are not spoilers. The nuclear war took place in 2077. The esthetic was the 1950's, because of the game lore. Basically there is future tech, with 50's looks. From what I understand, the microchip wasn't invented until much later, in this world. As for the Ghoul (Cooper Howard), like they said, he's a mutant (Ghoul). We don't know exactly what happened to him, or how he turned into a Ghoul. But that's the reason he's lived so long.

    Someone may have answered this already, but...
    Ghouls are people. They were exposed to a lot of radiation at the right/wrong time in the right/wrong way, and instead of dying, they mutate. Their skin peels off, leaving them looking raw, usually without noses or ears, since those fall off early on. The Ghoul in the show is remarkably well preserved compared to most. More significant than the outer change, though, is the inner one. Ghouls are basically immortal. They don't need to eat, drink, or even breathe. They can be destroyed by violence, but otherwise live essentially forever. Unfortunately, one thing doesn't remain intact - the brain. Some ghouls manage to stay functional for centuries. Others... well, their brains basically rot. They become primitive and bestial, and extremely violent to anyone except other ghouls. And they will eat their victims despite no longer needing to eat. The lore is sometimes fuzzy and contradictory on this, but it may be that radiation sustains them, and without enough radiation they need to eat. However, we've encountered ghouls in-game who are not in high-radiation areas, who have not eaten since the bombs fell, and who are still intact. So, like I said, it's fuzzy. Anyway, these bestial ghouls are called feral ghouls, or just ferals. The ferals are still technically alive, and are not walking corpses, but in many ways they are very similar to the faster-moving more recent pop culture versions of zombies.
    Some ghouls are presented as being very moist, with skin like raw meat that's gone bad. Others have a much more leathery appearance. Either way, their skin is very rough and craggy, leading to their nickname for normal people of "smoothskins". This difference in appearance varies from game to game, with Fallout 4's ghouls tending to be more leathery-looking than previous iterations.
    Ghouls experience a lot of discrimination, based partly on fear of ferals and partly on just good old hating people who are different. Some communities welcome ghouls, others ostracize or kill them. In a few rare cases, large groups of ghouls band together to form their own communities.

    @j.f.fisher5318 3 місяці тому +4

    There are very few things where lore is kinda important. Ghouls is about it imo. What we've seen in the games is that radiation possibly combined with exposure to a particular engineered virus that's part of the lore causes people to become semi-immortal zombies called Ghouls. There is one ghoul in the games that says he found a dose of a drug somewhere that made him a ghoul. There's a lot we don't know. We see Ghouls that still have their humanity and feral ghouls that are fast zombies. The lore in the games is that every ghoul eventually becomes feral and there's nothing to do about it. In the show there may be a treatment, but there are fan conspiracy theories about that treatment and I'll leave it there. Cheers!
    In general the show is very solid on lore except maybe for a date being wrong, or at least confusing.

I suggest watching the game intro to Fallout 1 through 4 games for a complete idea of the universe. Fallout 4 especially gives clarity to the future of an alternate universe. Now you are young, to those of us growing up during The Cold War that intro is what we feared would happen- every day. But we lived our lives. When I teach my The History of The Cold War classes, I always start by showing them a five minute video of nuclear explosions with eerie music, to make your generation understand what it all was- and what you will have to get used to again with Putoloni's sabre-rattling (though he is too much of a coward to do it). During the Cold War, the USSR was planning to open the war by dropping 600+ merely on my little Denmark.
    The game is set in an alternative timeline, where the transistor was never invented, so everything used vacuum-tubes like early computers. And thus the timeline starts diverging from ours in the year after WW2, and progress is generally much slower. But there is also no Cuban Missile Crisis, Long Island, etc, and no reckoning with its past, so the US carries on in a sort of Truman-Eisenhower Superamerica with nuclear powered cars, etc. But in the 21st century fossil fuels and other resources starts running out, and The Resource Wars starts; where Europe, Africa and The Middle East is torn apart, and China invades Alaska to get the last remaining oil resource on the planet. And in 2077... Boom.
    And oh yea, the US turns authoritarian semi-Fascist, a bit like Starship Troopers.
    Anyway, think of the game and series as set in a sort of retro-futuriatic post apocalypse, IE a future as imagined in the fifties, but then add a nuclear exchange of superpowers. In the games you find all those tragic and dark stories as you explore the Wasteland, the series show them, but both do a very good job of what good SciFi should; holding up a dark mirror to humanity- and with Fallout it is really dark.

    This is how you do a GREAT strong female character. Lucy is a character first amd female second. They establish her strengths and her weaknesses masterfully:
    She has the skills. She can fight in theory and be quite good at it. But she is naive, she is unready for what she's about to do, she is inexperienced in survival skills, and has no idea how the world outside her sheltered vault works and it shows in every choice she makes because she makes a TON of mistakes and suffers for it every time.
    But from there she grows, and changes, and learns from each and every one. She slowly adapts and learns because the choice is that or dead in the wasteland. And yet.... despite learning to live and losing her naivete, she NEVER loses sight of her morality.
    She just learns how hard it is to still try and be a good person in the Wasteland... or even how to know what good and bad even IS in the Wasteland, but NEVER lets that deter her from TRYING.

    The real reason you don’t see many Americans doing British accents is because they don’t have to, most of film work is American. However, with British actors, the work is limited and it behooves them to learn how to speak with an American accent in order to compete for more work.

    • @DJ_Randy_B
      @DJ_Randy_B 3 місяці тому

      @@artxroyalty While I understand the necessity of copyright protection, it's important to acknowledge why some people might find it distracting. The phenomenon of pareidolia, where our brains tend to recognize patterns and faces in random or ambiguous images, can be particularly relevant here. A prominent watermark can sometimes trigger this effect, making it harder for viewers to focus on the content itself. Our brains are wired to recognize patterns, and a large watermark can inadvertently become a focal point, distracting from the main message or aesthetic of the video. Constructive criticism, like pointing out the potential distraction of a watermark, is invaluable because it helps refine and improve the overall experience. Simply saying "it's fine" or "it's tolerable" doesn't provide much insight or help in making adjustments. By discussing the specifics of what works and what doesn't, we can create a better balance between protecting intellectual property and ensuring the content remains engaging and clear.

      @@DJ_Randy_B I never invalidated what you said, I just informed you of why it’s there. I’ve had issues with monetization without it in the past.
      I try to be aware of the distraction it may cause which is why I made sure to lower the opacity, but as someone who’s had past videos taken down, this method seems to work well with me posting.
