KATARINAAAA MY NOXIAN GOATTTTT we need her to be in the next show for noxus Noxus was just the 'evil' region early on, but more the past few years they've been making it more in a gray area. I would also add that characters have a good amount of lore, each have biographies and even a couple short stories, some comics, and even a lot of the cinematics are canon too 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️ so I would say there's a good amount of lore

If you watch every piece of media as it's meant to be, you can get something out of it. If everything needs to be like arcane, then surely you will be disappointed. With that being said, this show is more plot-driven and about the world rather than compelling character interactions. Definitely not for everyone

The girl in the gold armor with brown hair at the start and end of A New Dawn is Leona, another one of Riots's LGBTQ+ champions! Leona is a lesbian and she is from Targon. Her and Diana's (another champion from Targon who is also a lesbian) story is one of my favorite's in the entire lore of league.

Noxians are kind of evil but they’re not the most evil. They are aggressive military expansionists. Modern Noxus is a meritocracy. Talent above all else. In theory, Noxians don’t care what you look like, where you’re from, or who you love, as long as you can strengthen the Empire. And they don’t care just about physical strength. A Noxian is encouraged to find their own talents and focus on them.

Yeah, a lot of the older cinematics focus less on proper lore and more personality of the characters - featuring them in something closer to the 5v5 team match format the actual game uses. So you'll get match-ups and alliances that aren't always what you'd get in the canon lore, but get to see the characters playing off each other in interesting ways. Very much intended to make everyone seem badass for a bit of marketing ahaha. They're definitely still fun. The more recent cinematics are quite a bit more formatted to showcase tidbits of actual character relationships/worldbuild lore and events. Noxus definitely isn't Evil(tm) but they're very militant and expansionist, rightfully painting them as the bad guys to a lot of other nations, and they have a lot of visual design that leans into Villain Coding lmfao. Their ideals result in friction with most others, but there are definitely good aspects of how they work and their history. Like in Arcane, it's a layered thing - definitely a huge moral grey area. Noxus has a lot of my favorite champions because their conflict with their own ideals and expectations of their culture is really interesting. Also you're doing great with pronouncing everything!

These two videos are not part of the lore. But Katarina and Garen did meet and fight, there is a small webtoon that was made in 2023 on Katarina. It is a love story invented by the fans initially more than 10 years ago. And now we know that according to the lore they will have a love-enemy relationship. Riot was influenced by the community for these two.

Idk where u got from that Annie is from Demacia but she is from Noxus and has ties to the black rose but I doubt she will appear in the next show. Darius and Katarina will be there for sure. In 1st cinematic there was Tryndamere which you saw in Still here but in the 11 year old cinematic you see a skin of him instead of the original design (the one shown in Still here). The Legends of Runeterra (card game) cinematics are cool to see just a sneak peek of every zone and are quite chill (I don't think they are canon tho).

the old cutscenes that you saw are based on the game and its gameplay so we see them being summoned by the players at different times in their lives, it can be the past, the future or the present and they fight between teams of 5 to take possession of the enemy base, they die but are resurrected until one of the two bases is destroyed. the recent cutscenes are more focused on the lore of the characters. It would be cool if you saw the cutscene of Annie which is really cool and that of Darius which answers a little to your question on the fact that the characters of Noxus are or not just bad guys or if it goes further .

Yep, there was a clip from the "A twist of fate" cinematic on bridging the rift. It was when Alex was talking about how their early storytelling was basically "fight porn". lols

A lot of the older cinematics feature "Team play wins the day" type themes. Individual heroes struggle until their teammates come to their aid.

i would say the Void are the ultimate bad guys - they just want to undo everything that isn't The Void. everything else is like the real world - good, bad, mad, pious, vengeful etc... when they've got lore that is.

Every cinematic starting with "The Call" and after are all cannon they have announced! So all cinematics they release from now on are cannon.

I think it would be interesting, once you're finished with the cinematics, to check out champions that interest you more in-depth, like reading their biography/short stories connected to them. There's lots of interesting stuff there. I can also recommend Necrit's videos for more detailed league lore content. Thank you for your reactions though, these are great!

If you like Katarina you are in luck because i can't imagine a Noxus focused series without her being included! Noxus was, at first, made to be that one evil empire (as oposed to Demacia) but as time progressess Riot fleshed out its characters and ideals more and more making most of them gray. Today, Noxus is an empires that values strength above all, some of that is shown with conquest and other is shown actually helping opressed people. This is also shown in other Cinematics.

What you need to react to if you want to have an idea of the world and its regions are the Tales of Runeterra shorts

these are more representations of gameplay than actual events that happened in lore or stories. as for Katarina being evil, most champions in Runeterra are neither good or bad, of course there is your evil villains but Katarina is more on the good side i would say (depends how you see it, but it isn't clear cut).

These are the really old cinematic when league’s lore wasn’t nearly as fleshed out. Once you start getting to the newer stuff you will see a lot more relevant lore stuff. The recent cinematic from the past six years or so are incredible.

There's not a lot of lore in these videos, they're more of a representation of the gameplay where they just fight for "reasons". As for good and bad yes most characters are like Arcane in terms of morality including Noxians, but some are straight up villains.

Wow impressive reaction series you caught a lot, more than almost anyone I've seen react to it who isn't familiar with the games.... The games provide a lot of backstory and different perspectives starting in a variety of places and times. The great thing about the easter eggs in the show is that they are not necessary for you to get because of how seamlessly they are thrown in. Some are obvious, like Nuka-cola of course, but some are very subtle. There are some characters in the show who are in the games, but I certainly wouldn't spoil that for you. The only semi-spoiler I might give you although you might have figured this out already is if you watch the end credits very very closely for each episode... That tells you where the next episode will be located. That applies to Every episode of the season *uhem the finale*.

Yeah it goes from mid to very good around halfway through. Absolutely give it a chance. I definitely get that the standards are set pretty high after arcane but this one worked for me. Thank you for listening to all the feedback! Love you Aisha! 🙏🙏

Fun to see you taking this series on! The series is a tie into the video game, yes, and that's based on a table top roll playing game that goes back to the 80s and draws very heavily on the cyberpunk fiction of that era, to the point that it directly the city itself, Night City, from William Gibson's novels. TBH I had read the most of the sexuality in the series as intentionally unpleasant -- I think you are supposed to find it offputting. (But I have a pretty high tolerance for casual sexuality in fiction, as long as its not too male gazey) The ports on their heads are a kind of "cyberware" (implants and cybernetic augmentation, also called "chrome") and yeah, certainly every kid aspiring to work for a corp (like Arasaka) is gonna have one. Those, the hand jacks and eye replacements seem to be super super common -- they basically replace smart phones along with a host of other potential features. (Around the fifteen minute mark you can see david's eyes flickering as he's on a video call with his rippperdoc (surgeon who installs cyberware). (It is possible to live without any augmentation -- but at least in Night City, it's very very rare, and is viewed as pretty eccentric. In the game ... there are a bunch of Buddhist monks in the game, who don't use augmentation as their variety of Buddhism does not believe you can achieve non-attachment with cybernetic implants, outside of them... one guy that I can think of, and your character is clearly weirded out by it.

Honestly, I tried to watch it, but I didn’t enjoy it. The pacing is terrible, and I couldn’t connect with the characters. Not to compare everything to Arcane, but after watching it, I find it hard to enjoy other animated shows because they just don’t measure up. I understand what you mean about the typical anime formula. As I get older, I’ve become increasingly critical of most anime. I think it comes down to subtlety, most anime tend to be overly explicit about the characters’ motives or thoughts. By contrast, Arcane excels in conveying so much through micro-expressions, making everything feel more grounded and real.

I watched it having played the game through beginning to end twice. I like to learn games by playing and never look up tips or metas or whatnot before playing (renders it all pointless for me), so I'll do one blind, win or lose, then do a second where I know what I'm doing and try to get outcomes. With that in mind I really liked the show, which kept the tone, world and beats, but did it with new lead characters. I also prefer the style of Arcane, or classic/cinematic animation, but this show comes around for sure. One similarity with Arcane is how the original songs play in and will come to mean a lot to you, in the game too. For everyone here who has played the game: to this day I get chills hearing Resist And Disorder, imagining myself walking into Afterlife.

The setting of this story is what I personally fell in love with. To some degree more so than the actual story. Its this deeply dystopian extreme capitalist nightmare of a city. Where the wealth disparity between rich and poor is both more extreme and more impactful than in our reality. Literally everything you can own is owned by someone and is being monetized with the worst possible business practices. Authorities are deeply corrupt. Not having your rent ready literally locks you out of your appartment. Basic healthcare will be denied and you will literally be left to die if you arent on a paid plan. Same with education. And on top of that you can physically augment your body and senses if you have money. So being rich literally means being super human. Or poor means being sub-human if you will. At the same time crime is rampant because nobody cares because it doesn't bother you if you have money. This metropolis of futuristic technology where your daily life is reduced to a fight for survival at the same time just fascinates me ever since I came across it. And the pilot of this show just capsulates it so well. Your mother being killed as part of collateral damage in gang violence. Her not getting treatment at the scene of the crime because she can't afford trauma team. You then getting beat up in an alley by a school bully that is physically super human because of his parent's money. Getting locked out of your appartment due to rent. Then being told they would not save your mom's life because you couldn't pay enough money in the past and getting her cremated ashes spat out by a vending machine. That's just so visceral and brutal. A place that is both a nightmare that should not exist and yet feels oddly plausible given our reality. Getting thrown into it intially I also was somewhat overwhelmed by the unique style of the show. But the first episode is by far my favourite part in hind sight. I played the game after watching the show and enjoyed it a lot. It's a narrative driven open world game so you might enjoy it too :)

It begins as a classical boring anime, but gets more original And yeah this won't be Arcane, but for me it's the only thing that came a bit close after s1 The vr things kinda chill after ep1, think it was made to shock and hook ppl even tho I'm not really the audience Glad you are diving in tho David Martinez is created for the anime, close characters too, but all other npc's, companies, the city, bad guys etc. are from the game/universe The rest of your questions will kinda be explained ! Cyberpunk world is harsh but great

"I only play narrative-driven open world games." It just so happens that's precisely what Cyberpunk 2077 is. It's made by CDPR, the same studio that made The Witcher games, and it's set in the same setting as this anime, but I would say that for me it's tonally very different. There are similarities - they're both about a grim dystopian future with rampant crime and corruption. They even share the same music. But this anime is, well... anime. It's loud, it's hyper, it's thoroughly indulgent in its excessiveness. The game does have sex and violence but it's tonally much more like a cross between futuristic noir, like Blade Runner, and an action-crime thriller, if you catch my meaning. IMO, the game is much better than the anime, but that's my taste.

Definitely give it to episode 3 at least. I have put this show on par with ATLA and Arcane many times and I firmly believe you’ll enjoy it. The sex VR really was meant to show you how depraved this world is and how sleazy the Doc is. I’m sure your Discord will answer a lot of your questions along with this comment section, but this is a dystopian cyberpunk near-future, where body augmentation is the norm, where insurance is impossible to afford except for the upper class, where the line between machine and human is blurred. Basically a cyberpunk metaphor for late-stage capitalism.

12:46 David was reliving the death of the man in the opening scene at 4:22, not doing what you think. David was asking for more of those types of VR experiences (braindances), but his "Ripperdoc" sent him an X-Rated one as a joke. It's easy to miss if you did.

Nothing compares to Arcane... but this show's alright. It's worth watching.
