Everyone say it with me, "curled hair is not equivalent to curly hair" 👏 👏 👏
K L YAAAS!!! I have floofy curls and people always assume that I curl it. It’s not the same!
It's still a hairstyle curled or curly
Sarah Taylor I personally disagree and think it depends on how the hair looks...

mikaela rose querido I curl my curly hair
They curl to manipulate the hair to do wat they want it to do. And it’s easier to do it that way
...
For the 1950 /60s those could be done with natural curly hair
Well women all had the same trends independently of their nature of hair. Except blacks who had specific trends sometimes but other than that they all styled it the same at least pre-60s when no trends were « natural », straight nor curly.
You. Keep. Doing. 1970's. Afros. INCORRECTLY. They. Were. Neat. And. Shaped.
When I read this comment every period sounds like 👏👏👏👏

They should use Type 4 hair for that style as well.
@@AlyJai they should, but they should include ALL textures Black people have. ☺👍
Isn't that cultural appreciation
Ah, if only they knew what life was like with naturally curly hair.
What's that got to do with anything?
@@lanabanana5301 Idk, what does it have to with anything?
Yeah you’re so oppressed... actually no, straight/straightened hair is just a 2000’s dominant trend. In other eras in Europe /America, before 70s, most trends were supposed to be heat styled in salon independently of the nature of the hair. The only oppressed community regarding hair is black people’s hair. So stop crying thanks.
Julz Alta that’s not the point...
@@julzalta6466 Oh! You thought I was oppressed? Bruh, I was just saying curly hair is tough never said straight hair wasn't 🗿🗿.
The only girl with naturally curly hair was given a ball of frizz
The last girl just mightve had naturally curly hair.

The 1970s and 2010s are the only ACTUAL curly hair styles in this video
I was expecting natural curly hair from everyone bc it was always a question I had on how they did them a long time ago
Mhm 😔
Many were forced to straighten their hair to conform to western/white beauty standards.
How did they do there curly hair in like medieval and before that
@@saraha8276 not really all were forced alot of people wanted to keep up with trends

At least where I grew up, the 2000s curl wasn't the beachy wave, it was the over-gelled scrunch-crunch with overly straightened bangs.

She looks like camila mixed with sabrina carpenter lol
kawaii patoto 2 very funny 😂😂
Curled: done with a curling iron
Curly: naturally confused and doesn't know what it's doing
Cathryn rosenberg Before 70 people that wanted to be trendy went to the salon and had it heat styled for the week independently of their hair nature. They can’t do a 100 years of curly hair because it is not different of straight. Except for blacks.
FRRR LOOL
Curled*, this isn't curly hair.
ChristinaQueenHeart exactly what I thought as soon as I saw the curling iron. I thought it was going to be girls with 100% curly hair growing out their heads. Like the last girl
ChristinaQueenHeart where exactly did it say naturally curly hair?
maya it said curly which implies natural hair vs curled hair

I thought this would be about how people with natural curls wore there hair, not styles with curls
The thumbnail low-key looked like Camila Cabello
Radiant Rifat I thought I was the only one thinking I like this lol 😂
There is a difference between naturally curly hair and hair that is curled with a curling iron. Let’s just get that straight ok
@SimplyBored "curly hair"
@SimplyBored well the title says "100 years of CURLY hair" which is implying to people that do have curly hair, not curled hair.
Get that "straight," get it?
Well trends weren’t different depending of your hair. Before 70, you just had to go in salon getting heat styled hair if you wanted to be trendy, straight or curly, they were not different. Maybe black hair have variations but that’s all.
anyone else expecting ppl with actual curly hair ?
Fr.. Like 3b at least..
My sister does
No because this is was about curly hair styles throughout history.
i was extremely disappointed
The 1970s did have curly hair!
Curled hair* not curly hair...
Khutija.C the curled hair is curly. It doesn't say anything about natural curls
Julia Arnold At 1970, it clearly says "Natural curls (including afros)"
Queen Cleveland But natural curls were only mentioned in two instances.
Khutija.C RIGHTTTTT
It’s not a big deal 😒
I feel like in every single one of these videos by 2010's they try to make it seem like in the modern age everything was perfect and all beauty standards are gone but unfortunately that's just not the case. The popular style of curls now is just waves with straight bits at the end. Am I only person who thinks this? I might be wrong its just my opinion.
Alicia Patnelli yup totally wrong curls is when your hair is plum and curly wavy hair not curly at all it has no volume like curly hair. And as we are in the 21st century curly hair is finally shining
Hmm I think natural hair is super popular and most people ik like curls. But they tend to mean 2b-3c
I believe looser natural curls is the current trend or really wavy
@@caij8456 yeah, I feel like overall, sticking to your natural hairtype is being encouraged, even with people on the 4 spectrum. There is a general trend towards more wavy hair on the straight end of the spectrum, the flat ironed styles from the 2000s are definitely gone. But it's not like you're gonna get shame for having just really straight hair, it's just not super fashionable and with just a bit of work put in you can usually get something resembling texture in there.
Alicia Patnelli I don’t think beauty stands are gone, but I think beauty has a lot more variation. Like how many many many different colors of lipstick are trendy. People can wear different colors and patterns and styles and still be curly
The 60s where beautiful 😍😍

ava leibel YES
ava leibel let's be honest that's why we all clicked
ava leibel That's what I was gonna say!
I actually thought it was her!
To me she kinda looks like a mix between Camila Cabello and Ally Brooke also from 5H
“Curls” okay some of those can’t even be classified as remotely curly
Most of these comments are about how they thought this was about curly hair but it wouldn’t make sense to talk about the styles of curly hair throughout the century because think about it if these were natural curls it’s not like it follows a style because you didn’t choose to have these type of curls at that certain time so it doesn’t really follow a trend because it’s natural
My favorites are the 60’s and 80’s, and any afro
1970s for me I love the Afro I am also wearing my huge Afro.
2000's: damaged curls. Girls were told that their curls were messy and they had to straighten them. (cries silently in the corner)
Why does the fifth one look like Camila (singer) and the sixth one look like Katy Perry???!!!! I NEED ANSWERS!!!
Well yeah but, doesn't the 1960's one look like camila cabello?

That 90s hair style!!! I remember LOVING when my sister did that to my hair!
Nobody:
Most of the comments:this isn’t curly hair it’s curled hair
Ashley Thomas like literally someone made a mistake and then the whole comment section goes even sometimes agressive i’d say
@@lin9139 It's more about them being misled and the lack of representation for people with actual naturally curly hair, but I get that the majority of comments are about it and stuff
Hmm... I don’t know how to feel about this video because a lot of the people in this video (especially in the earlier years) didn’t actually have curly hair. This video is more about curly hair-dos and less about people with actual curls.
Giraffioli I don't know what you imaged this video would be about but how should curly hair evolve through 100 years? They are kinds of curly hair but that doesn't depend on the year you live? You can have 3c curls but that won't change in 20 years...
I think it's about the "curly hairs beauty trends". It's not important that they're natural or not, it's just the beauty trend and fashion back then
I thought so too, the title is misleading
Irem Hangut I don't know what else to say besides your comment being ignorant af lol of course *naturally* curly hair has evolved in the past 100 yrs. There are way more things available now a days for curly girls than there was 100 yrs ago. We have deep conditioner, diffusers, products to maintain frizz, etc. Hell we even have brushes specifically *for* curly hair. So I guarantee if you take a curly girl with 3c *now* and a girl with 3c hair 100 yrs ago it would look different. Oh and don't forget about hair styles.
Anesthetic Ethan I meant that the structure doesn't change. Well, atleast that's what I thought about when I read that comment. And I only thought about the curls like when you don't style them because the types of curls there are today have been also there 100 years ago... (I myself have curly hair)
I thought this was about actual curly hair.
Selena Eagle Feather yeah because over the years the look of naturally curly hair just changes. We all know the different forms of naturally curly hair.
Careless Bear its curled
I just realized next year the videos are gonna be a little longer cuz it’ll be the start of a new decade
0:53 so smart !!
Marcel waves look like they just set a curling iron or wand on their head and pushed.
Brooke Nicole hm. I've always wondered how they did that. Thanks!
Brooke Nicole i hate doing finger waves it's so hard to keep in form.
Ella if only it were that easy
they even look spikey from the front :/
Sometimes they did use heat though. I have a marcel wand from around that time. It was heated above coals until at the ideal temperature and then worked down a strand of hair kind of like a crimper. Imagine getting burned with that! I would totally overheat and burn my hair. So nice that heating elements have improved.
I really thought was going to be about natural curls...guess I forgot that the society we live in doesn’t glorify actual curls
Sierra Maria, they call our natural curls frizzy and damaged. I came from one of those surprise makeover videos. A mom had long naturally curly hair to her waist. Stylist cut it above shoulders and flat ironed it. There was so much ignorance in the comments section. They were calling all her hair damaged. Only the very ends needed to be trimmed. The mom also needed to learn how to style her hair and do hair treatments to protect her ends.
What amazes me is that the mom said she doesn’t have time for herself. Why give her a style that looks good only straight? She won’t be flat ironing it every day.
Pi for breakfast no one calls natural curls frizzy and damaged? stfu
Sierra Maria so what? they are still curls get over it
@@Nessah05, there are a lot of people who call curly hair frizzy and damaged especially coily and kinky hair. just because you never heard someone say it doesnt mean people dont
Ruby Milner lmao ok i dont have curly hair how tf would i no? and i was responding to that girls comment its stupid. Just because some people call natural curls “frizzy and damaged” dosent mean everyone does now get over it
I loveee doing the 1960s curly updo for school, vintage and beautiful 💕
Surprisingly I find that afro on the 1970s model very appealing. I don’t usually like them but she pulls it off perfectly. I also like the 1950s poodle style 👍
1960's was my fav.
I wanted to try the 1960s on my own hair, it looks simple but beautiful!!
Agree!
Not a super accurate title but it's not a huge deal as women in earlier decades usually didn't embrace their curls like we do now. Styling used to be a lot more intensive. I'm more confused about the 2017 model wearing a button-down shirt backwards?
It's cute though.
the bone straight is the golden norm in 2017. y'all are ironing the hell out of that hair. we need to ask ourselves why women in their late 30s and 40 and up are all getting rid of grey hair when its natural. women these are so fake
Yes! Thank you for noticing! I thought I was seeing things
Meghan McGowan I think maybe it’s like a “don’t care” statement? Kinda be natural.. idk 😂🤨.
Lmao I went back to go see her shirt 😂💀
Curly updo was my favorite.I also did that hairstyle for my communion
Flapper lady is just the most precious doll. She's so pretty.
My dumb ass thought this was going to be a video appreciating natural hair throughout the years. Oh well.
Tao Willemse we were all fooled sis.
Tao Willemse they made a video called “100 years of black hair”
Angela C black hair does not = curly hair. I have quite a few white friends with natural curly hair, cant forget about latinas either. (Imagine me saying that in the nicest way possible lol)
Thought the same thing, like how people with curly hair styled their hair (if that makes sense) and not just straight hair that was curled for the aesthetic.
Tao Willemse I'm Mexican, and I have very curly hair. One thing though is I can never find videos that show my type of hair, it always goes from the waves or curls made with wands straight to 4a-c hair. Never in between
i thought it was camila cabello in the thumbnail

i actually really liked the look of the 60s!!
1960s is bomb omg!
The 50s and 40s hair is switched- the 'poodle' look was definitely wartime, and the midi-cut was postwar.
Hedwig Hedgehog THANK YOU! I was annoyed to see that
Ugh, YES. THANK YOU. That definitely stressed me out.
True but that poodle was still sooo inaccurate.
The midi cut with a sleek pageboy is typically 40s.. Pageboy was also popular during the 50s but with a more voluminous touch and style with more teasing around the scalp.. The poodle became popular first after Betty Grable wore it during the middle and late 40s.. This poodle is wrong on so many levels and is both looking wrong, wrongly made and extremely inaccurate..
Actually the 40s were all about victory rolls
I thought this was going to be natural curls
ThatOne It's still a disappointment, those curls were faked.
Lepidocrocite Quartz how do you know
random stuff Because I know what natural curls look like.
haven’t started watching but i can make a prediction.
70s: Brian May
my prediction was correct
“curled vs curls”
On the count of giving the people false hope that this was about natural curls how do you plead?
Claudia Merrill Before 70, no trends were natural. Straight nor curly. So I don’t really get what people were expecting. Except for blacks, hair nature is not a culture.
@@julzalta6466 hair nature isnt really a culture for us black people???
Jfj Ufjfj The opposite. There is no “curly hair” specific trends for white women, all shared the same trends. It’s not the case for black people. White women with curly hair crying all over the internet as if they were an oppressed people is just ridiculous. Straight hair trend is a 2000’s trend, historically curly hair were on trend for white women a lot of times. They just have a victim mentality and they kind of copy the black natural mouvement without a reason for it.
Eli Mar Shakira is white and has straight hair but anyway I never said white people didn’t have curly hair I said they didn’t have independent trends (you can’t do a 100 years of natural curly hair for whites, it will be exactly the same of 100 years of natural straight hair because it’s not a separate group). Oh my God can you even read? I’m not a native English speaker but I’m pretty sure your comment has absolutely nothing to do with mine.
Not Guity!

God I love curly hair! The bigger and curlier the better! My hair inspiration as a child was Fran Drescher in The Nanny. And black girls look so stunning with their natural hair. I now keep my hair quite short so it stays curlier because if I let it grow long it goes more wavy
I don’t need no curling iron I got curly curly thick black hair y’all natural right here!!! Were my natural curls at!?

Umm most of these girls hair aren't even curly 😂 they just curled it..
Lyric Shaw ugh yes thank you
That's how they do it. Its only a representation. People get mad over such small things.
Whimsy Randomness agreed
sinistella These are not large budget videos, to find a woman with this type of hair would take a lot of time and money.
No where in the title it said "Natural".
This video is just for representation.
When they make documentaries on people, they don't bring in the same person. There are many factors.
1. They don't want to cast
2. They don't know how to act
3. They are dead.
This video is for representation.
I'm sorry if I portrayed myself a bit passively aggressive.
Have a good day. 😊
That's the point of the video. It is showing how people curled their hair through the decades.

There’s is a difference between curled hair and curly hair, my hair is naturally curly (and long) and looks different
omg the 1960s hair is ittttt. 1960s 1980s curly hair are my vibeeeeee and wearing them natural now is timeless ❤
Why are they stopping the 1910's stuff? I know we are going to 2020, but honestly 1910 is the best.
Symbelmynë des Bruyères 1900's too omg 😔😔😔😔
It’s “100 Years of...” and since it’s almost 2020, it just makes more sense to start at the 20s than to go beyond 100 years just to do the 10s
i would rather watch videos about stuff in 1910's alone ... this is just boring now
The 2010's is more about weaves and wigs, protective styles, permanent and straightening. There're a few NATURAL curly-haired people out there.
Kimmie Kawaii u do have a point but I think recently in the past 2-3 years for sure people are starting to definitely wear their natural hair out more including myself because I saw other girls starting to wear their hair out. if u do research you'll see that relaxers sales have massively gone down in the past couple years and now there is even the term big chop on UA-cam where people cut off all their relaxer and begin to take care of their natural hair whereas before that was never a trend
Kimmie Kawaii Actually there is alot of naturally curly haired people out there. Including myself lol ... But a lot of the naturals do wear wigs and weaves from time to time also so sometimes there is no sure way to tell
Kimmie Kawaii
Not to be rude or anything but
Need I remind you that this is strictly about curls and not styles in general?
So showing straight hair would be irrelevant
I actually see a lot of natural curly heads
And I know a lot of black people wear a lot of protecting styling because it helps our hair to grow some of us can’t keep our hair out all the time because mines will break off so I don’t see a problem wearing wigs, weaves or braids and etc
"100 years of wavy hair" - thats not REAL curly hair. Respect.

None of these girls had curly hair all except the last one people need to stop putting curls and waves in the same catagory bc they are not the same at all
Layla Amador and the 70s
Yep. Curly hair is not very common, while wavy hair is extremely common. I get sick of it.
they meant how people curled their hair back then, not how people with curly hair wore it (but yeah, the title gives a wrong idea)
PREACHHHH I have actual super curly hair and when ppl say omg I have curly hair just like u and their hair is literally barely wavy/straight
My hair is both curly and wavy so yes they can be in the same category and I'm sure many women out there feel the same.
