100 Years of Long Hair | Allure
Aaaaand in 2020s.
Everyone adorned anxiety-fueled-self-cut-edgy-yet-disastrous bangs!
Pragya Tyagi why hasn’t this comment blown up yet? 😂
Ekdum point pe 😂
I cut my own bangs when I was in 2nd grade. They were disastrous😭
Not everyone. Some are actually using this time to grow their hair healthily 😋
And shaved heads dont forget about those
Maybe you guys should hire an actual fashion historian? And someone who actually knows how to execute these looks? Curling long hair and pinning it back does not make it “40s”. Rita Hayworth’s hair was not that long. Most styles were to the shoulders or a little bit longer for the longer looks.
MissSamantha222 they should hire Karolina Zebrowska
Sami Ahmes that’s exactly what I was thinking!!! ❤️
I couldn’t agree more! Hire Karolina, Rachel, and Zabrena with Kandee Johnson it would be epic
PREACH
It’s a video and it’s not that big of a deal. Research ab old hairstyles if you really wanna know ab it that much.
2010 was definitely not that. It was ombre hair.
Yasssss
I didn't meet anyone in real life that uses 2010's hairstyle...
Yesssss
Yep
The problem with these videos is that they focus on particular hair styles that only celebrities used, or in a lot of cases, hairstyles that only maybe one or two celebrities have used. They don't look at how regular people dressed in each decade.
Ok, can I please just say that while I appreciate that an amount of research is done, a good percentage of these are so poorly executed that it is almost entirely inaccurate. I appreciate the inspiration, though.
KitsuneCookie K...
Yes... the 20's looked like the one for 40's and both were modern... Also 30's was like 60's and the 30's were super inaccurate like wtf
Finally someone with ACTUAL knowledge. Thank you. The entire video looks half assed tbh.
What they could have done with the 20s is a faux bob and they could have done the braided style they mentioned for the 30s. But I think they wanted to show the length which is why most of the looks were rather inaccurate to the era as a whole
KitsuneCookie I agree in the 1950s long hair was not popular
The fact that the 2010s are behind us is insane to think about 😂
Me too.
Ahhh!! Don't say it!! I'm suddenly feeling very.. old.. 😓
absolutely! I'm still not over the fact that the 00's are behind us
I- this is the last year of the decade Sis. One more year and boom new decade. For now let’s just wrap this one up because we’ll all tired of it.
My teen years began in the 2000s and finished in the 2010s ... O.o I feel old....
20s is so wrong... They usually pulled it back. JUST BECAUSE A CELEBRITY DID IT DOESNT MEAN EVERYONE ELSE DID.
Sophia R. PreAch SiSteR
I don't think they were saying everyone else did it. They clearly stated that short hair was the iconic look of the decade. However, the video revolves around long hair, so they found an iconic example. Simple.
Sora agreed. if anything, the problem with the 20s clip is that the curls look nothing like the ragdoll curls they’re inspired by. but the inspiration definitely made sense for this video.
Sophia R. Time is speeding up
I have spent the past 25 years as a costumed interpreter (historical re-enactor) in 1922 it made my skin crawl too mate. It was so very very dreadful. Right hellacious.
This video was lazy af:
The 30s and 60s styles look exactly the same.
The 40s style was a modern knock off of the real veronica lake waves.
The 70s diana ross was not known for her afro she was known for long big textured hair. Also theb70s was known for long feathered hair.
And they never get the 2010s correct.
trinigyul K...
exactly
the hippies had wavy hair. with jewellery that made it look aesthetic
Yep
trinigyul well in the 70s Afros were really big because that’s when a lot of black pride movements were started.
Can't wait for Karolina to react to this
Who's Karolina? UA-camr?
Meh Naz Karolina Zebrowska has a channel about vintage fashion. She’s talked before about how these videos are historically inaccurate.
@@moodielolly278 Oh really? Do you have the name of her channel? I'd love to check it out. Thank you
Big same
Same here 😊🌸
The video: *Shows a model with long curly hair that goes down her shoulders for the 1970s*
"The iconic afro-"
Me: *Visible confusion*
Edit: I'm just saying that the timing was funny to me that they showed the model and then started talking about afros. I know that they mentioned the long curly hair part after. I watched the video too guys. I'm sorry, I wasn't clear on that. I was just talking about the funny and weird timing.
me mo I thought the same ugh
They showed the Afro as one of the styles before going onto say that many African American women started to reject chemical relaxers to flaunt their natural texture. That's where the model in the video comes in.
@@Seiferboi Yeah but the timing was funny though, because they mention the afro part right after the model's hair is finished being styled.
lol same feeling
me mo same
2010’s was borderline offensive with that thin flimsy wig 😭
Okaylah how was is offensive?
I've never seen anyone with mermaid hair
Ikr. There was a video on Instagram of someone crimping their hair and it was colorful
How do they always mess up the 2010s?!? Y’all were there for it!
Ikr. They could of did more hairstyles for the 2010s. Like 5
I'm no historian by any means but for God sake, all of these are horribly inaccurate! Please get a fashion historian or at least Meme Mom Karolina on the set
Do people studying history at college study hairstyles? Lol
@@biancalancia1023 I think there's specific fashion schools for that.
Where is my MEME MOM!
@@biancalancia1023 Ikr. hopefully they do but idk
a Meme mom😭😃😂✋🏻
Why didn’t they get an actual person w an Afro ? Lol
How else would they NOT represent black hair? There has to be some disrespect towards black people of some sort 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ I cant believe they would do something that stupid lmao
Really, it’s not that hard
Monl Konli
Dude, you’re the one who brought race into this. Any race can rock an Afro, but that just wasn’t it.
Cadence James any race cannot rock an Afro lmao. There is only one race that has natural afro-textured hair. Everything else is a poor knockoff.
@@crankdattaytay 🙌🏽
YALL ALWAYS GET 2010 WRONG. like it wasn’t that long ago???
If they can’t get 2010 right they probably aren’t getting any of them right 🤭😂
Alternative title: *100 years of inaccuracies*
facts
Why are you so mean?!
Lots of them are correct, I know 2000s-now and my mother and grandmother know 1940s-1990s
It feels weird that you didn't include the 1910s.
Itoro Okon it's 100 years. So 1920-2020
OysterHunter r/whoooosh
@@oysterhunter276 yes but they only went till the 2010's, so they should've included the 1910's too
@@sisi3855 thatd be six decades tho........
1910's long hair usually had a puffy art noveau inspired updo. Check out Rose's hair in Titanic. It is spot on.
Just wait cause 2020 just gonna be someone in a messy bun,or someone with bed hair and extremely bad self cut bangs
Half a messy bun with dyed bed hair and badly cut bangs
I feel attacked
@@Urmomisdele this is me minus the bangs 💀
@@Urmomisdele lol it should of been under 2010
With crazy eyes and a generally squirrelly demeanor because they spent WAY too much time alone in quarantine.....🤣

_Sees woman with long pastel hair_
Me: *oh god*
Humda it had nothing to do with the hair color?
Humda literally exactly what went through my head
I mean, crazy fantasy hair colors were super popular a few years ago
iceunelle ye I’ve seen that in the internet but in my personal experience I barely see anyone with such hairstyles so therefore I think that it shouldn’t be the posterboy of 2010s long hairstyles.
*long pastel WIG 😂
The “Afro” has me DEAD 😭😭😭
2:32 Afro really? Like her hair looked nothing like the picture 🤦🏾♀️ There are plenty of people with actual Afros you could’ve got 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️
They were not going for an afro. They were showing that many women of color were wearing their natural hair because Diana Ross was.
@@abigailharies1383 say Black. Stop saying women of color when you are talking about BLACK people.
They should feature more domestic women, not everyone was a Hollywood star
true
I would legit do that if I had the time and budget
Even if they had showed alot of Hollywood starts having same hairstyles at that so it was ok too
Horrible and absolutely terrible execution as always. For the first 50 years, the hair were WAY TOO long. No hair cut exceded sholder length. 60's hippie cut was popularized in late 60's, so you can pretty much say that it was 70's. 70's long hair was also wrong; it was definitely not an afro, and 70's hair had side flips like style icon Farrah Fawcett. It is so sad that you even got 80's wrong as it was fairly recent, and the hair looked like early 60's bouffant. 90's and 2000's was ok. 2010's was also wrong, long hair usually has layers and balayage.
Agree
Yes but this is long hair history. Plenty of women kept long hair. HOWEVER they were not in trend and this video wasnt accurate in any way, for long or popular hair.
Syed Mazhar Hasan this is 100 years of LONG hair that’s The Who,e point
@@sineadbarrett1132 But the long hair is WAY TOO LONG for 1910, 1920, 1930, 1940, 1950. People had shoulder length hair. In this video, it is longer than shoulder. Moreover, they should be wearing buns or French knots.
@@syedmazharhasan6803 You act like everyone was a monolith and was the same. You have such a stereotypical depiction of the times, and yet you weren't even living in some of these times. They clearly showed photos of some people looking like this. They sometimes depict rare and groundbreaking looks, too, not just the humdrum average styles that we generically associate with the era.
Can’t even get a woman with an ACTUAL afro. Like why???
I don't remember ANYONE wearing their hair in that "80s" style...
da broncobabe it wasn’t and the fact they called it a mullet was worse.
Tbh, I have no idea how that style even closely resembles perms and hairspray?
I don't understand why they called that mess a mullet... lmao
Right!? Men had mullets 1st of all, and women had so many amazing styles that are definitely documented wtf
Maybe cuz they didn’t?
The reproduced hairstyles look almost nothing like the originals....
I love how diverse this was 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
yesss
It was bad and inaccurate
@@th0ma564 although it was inaccurate at least they tried, instead of doing what they usually do, i.e. doing a 'through the decades' video and totally ignoring all other cultures but white
@pablo gonzalez because it's about American culture?😂
pablo gonzalez it’s an American based channel
Y’all had ample opportunity to showcase a fro... wth.
This video: ignore each decades unique layering and style techniques in favor of one celebrity style
It's like every video they made
Continuation: and when you get this one celebrity style, ignore it too and make a modern hairstyle anyway
Hey, it started off with 1920 and ended with 2010.. That's not hundred years.
1920
1930
1940
1950
1960
1970
1980
1990
2000
2010
That’s 10 decades.
Literally the only one I felt was accurate was early 2000's. I'm sorry to say this but, either the styles did not correlate with the times it was trying to represent or they weren’t executed correctly.
Y’all REALLY bombed this
😂😂😂 No kidding!!
How? some of them are inaccurate
@@dontae.dovelll Most of them are VERY inaccurate. The styling makes them even worse.
For the love of God just get a hairstylist who knows what they're doing. I'm sick of this.
then don't watch it
Cady I watch it to see if they’ve done it correctly. I’m allowed to criticize them for being inaccurate with their portrayal. If you have a problem with that, then don’t comment.
Oh, Applesauce you commented too. You have a problem with it.
Adventure_Artz Yes, I do I have a problem with it. That’s why I said they should strive for accuracy through professional stylists. They try to put effort into their research, but then they undermine it with modern stylists attempting to recreate vintage styles. People trust these channels to be accurate, and are therefore mislead on what vintage fashion is.
Oh, Applesauce if you can hate on them let this person hate on you 🙂 according to your reasoning that’s fine
You overlooked the 1900s and 1910s, when all hairstyles required great length! Also, hair throughout the 1930s remained quite short. Anna May Wong provided the exception to that rule for THAT decade as well as the preceding one, not the 1920s alone.
Yeah, the Victorian era was really known for long hair, and that carried over until the 1910s. Unfortunately "100 years of beauty" can only go back so far
They didn't overlook those years, they're only going back 100 years. It's 2020 now.
Yes remember wearing box braids as a 90's child, them wanting the color highlight, but never got it. Now just natural cruly/wavy growing ethnic hair. Loved the journey
Karolina Zebrowska needs to see this. (So much is incorrect 😫)
I have to say, I am refreshed at how accurate the 2000s was in this -- that was definitely a popular style when I was in high school in the mid-2000s. Actually, as a teenager in 2005, I had almost that exact style: long dark hair with chunky pink streaks.
They've literally just put some makeup on each person and brushed their hair, how does this show anything 😂
ikr
Why put the pictures of inspiration if you’re not going to execute it?? These styles are so lazy.
Exactly like that Afro was atrocious
Ikr
Nobody’s hair in the 80’s looked like that
had a haircut today and I don't regret it, feeling fresh.
wait till a week or so
Is that the last time you cutted it? Was when you posted this comment?
Almost entirely inaccurate
Facts
As someone who came up in the 80s, that 80s do missed the mark. Also, the styles prior to the 50s all had too-long hair models. Maybe the actress with the ringlets but it sounds as though she was an exception and not really representative of the era.
I was a teen in the 80's I wore my make up EXACTLY the same. To a T
ícҽís թհօҽղíx. I wasn’t talking about the makeup. Do you even know what the video is about?
MJ Z By the one with the ringlets, did you mean Mary Pickford in the 20s? As someone who watches a lot of old movies, including things like the original Chaney Phantom, where the actress had to have longer hair to portray a Victorian lady, I can tell you she was pretty unique hair wise. Mary Philbin’s hair as Christine was nothing like Pickford’s ringlets. And neither was the hair in this video. I mean, usually they at least try for a little more authenticity by doing the makeup a bit better, but they put in zero effort here.
In the 1990s the box braids were a little bigger. Also, Brandy's signature braids were called Mirco Braids that style lasted all the way till the mid 2000s.
I love how they choose both skinny/ model like woman and plump woman. Love it!
I love glamour and beauty salons and facials too and watching beauty tutorials on my IPad and phone too: lovely people, lovely photos, lovely ladies!😍💄❤️💇

Theres always wigs
Aw! I really loved my shaved head but now I’m trying to grow it out to get my natural wave back. I encourage you to make the most of this experience and experiment ceaselessly! Just know for solace that your hair will grow back so healthy :-))
I hard really long hair too then cut it to my shoulders, pretty much instant regret. I’m trying to grow it back ☺️
I had glorious long flat straight brown hair that was almost as long as me (I was 6) then I cut it very very short. Now, almost 7 years later I'm trying to grow it back, and I promised my hair that she won't be short ever again.
pJ honestly it isn’t too bad, I got used to it... but ever since I’ve always wanted to go back.
Okay but a lot of these aren't actually all that long. I understand the earlier decades due to trend defiance but shoulder-length is not what this promised
Lili Burgerlentz-That's exactly what I was say none of them were actually long.
Me: ooooh how are they going to style the 80s hair? This’ll be fun. Can’t wait to see the 80s- what is THAT? That’s not 80s!!
Fr tho. It’s not like everyone in that era had short hair in the front 💀

the music for 2000s and 2010s was so spot on
I'm, beggining to think these videos are innacurate on purpose...
Like, c'mon, the 70's hairstyle looked more 80's than whatever the heck the 80's thing was. And slapping on some blue eyeshadow and hot pink lipstick on a model doesn't cut it for 80's makeup, sorry.
Maybe try "Cheap party costumes inspired by 100 years of fashion" for the title?
The red-head girl is GORGEOUS!!!!

Old your eyeball: it's been 69 years where could they be 😭
It was great how happy the models looked :)
No offence, the video was good but most models had medium length hair, not long hair
Sorry bur everything that is longer than shoulder length is considered long at the salon! And most of them had very long hair but when you curl it I obviously shrinks.

It's much inaccurate.
I was there for the 80s hair and THAT was no 80s hair. IDK what kind of a bad prom updo you showed us but that was not what we wore in the 80s.
Some of those could've been better executed, but I must say I LOVE the fact you chose diverse models for this ❤
No matter what happens, I’m just glad that I wasn’t around in the 80s
Long haired girls in my high school days definitely had the brunette to blonde ombré look, not pastel mermaid hair. That was more early 2010’s hipster, not the mainstream.
I'm sure these hair stylists can do a lot better if you give them more than 5 minutes of time per model... Especially vintage hairstyles need time to do well
