  • If your dishwasher has no lights on the front panel and appears to be dead, try this easy fix before you replace it. Most dishwashers have thermal switches and they go out often rendering your washer useless.

Before tearing it open to check or replace the thermal fuse, unplug or open the breaker, let the machine sit without power for ten minutes or so, then turn the breaker back on. Sometimes the controller/computer just needs a reset. This worked for me.

Hi there, i know this video is dated but I just wanted to say thank you for taking your time to explain everything in detail and making it short and sweet, also for helping people save money in times where everything is just so darn expensive.☺

Thanks for posting this! I fixed my KitchenAid D/W too. It was the thermal fuse like you said, but my replacement cost $25 (Oct2017). Two years ago I had a repair done and they replaced the control board for $297 parts and labor. I wonder if it wasn't just the fuse back then too...but then your video wasn't posted yet back then. Thank you again!!

You made it look so easy! I have what appears to be the same model, going by the control panel on both. I have lights when I push the CYCLE & OPTIONS but when I push the start it does not light nor start. Any suggestions?

Make sure your float ( the little mushroom headed thing at the bottom inside of the dishwasher) isn’t stuck in the “up” position. Make sure it moves freely up and down. If that’s ok, there’s a good chance you have a bad keypad and will need to replace it.

You did this correctly. A lot of people just replace the fuse and that could cause the problem to come back. You need to install the wires/connector that comes with the fuse. I am an appliance repair technician. Good job.

I can't figure it out, I read installing the entire kit (5" wire leads) is somehow going to keep my thermal fuse from blowing. What is it about the wires that is making this supposedly work? Logic tells me it's extra work and it's doing nothing but lengthening the wire to the actual fuse. I've seen so many others on YT just remove the old fuse, pop in the new one and it works. Disclaimer: I'm on my 2nd blown thermal fuse, original one blew, so I did the tapping the fuse technique on the blown one and it reset it. So I popped it back in and hit the Cancel/drain button, it drained. Now, before I move forward, I checked a lot of parts for continuity, even the heating element, all seem to be fine. I'm very tempted to cut the wire, install the kit as suggested, reset it using the keyboard and see how it performs a full wash cycle. Does the kit have MAGIC wires??

The wires aren’t magic. The engineers came up with this fix because the original connectors that connect to the fuse become loose over time, so cutting them off completely eliminates this problem. The newer connectors are tighter. What happens when a connector is loose? It starts to arc, and heats up, thus burning out the part prematurely.

That's a good answer for those who have loose connections. But my fuse was not loose, the female wire ends were really stuck on the fuses metal tabs, pure friction, not corrosion. So that's why I did like others, monkey see, monkey do.

If it still blows after installing the wires correctly, then you have a glitch on the mainboard

Hi, do you know what model number this dishwasher you have is? We have the same one but can’t remember or seem to find the model number on ours. Would appreciate it if someone can tell me the model number. Thank you!
