I don't need it but I thought it would be interesting to see the price of the board, the link doesn't work. Must have been the heater wires.
The current draw of the heating element is what causes the problem to occur, but the wires to the heater aren't the problem, the power supply wires to the control board are. The link works, read above again. Thanks!
Yeah I missed the add "Dishwasher control board" Yes I understood the connector was the issue, poorly designed as you mentioned. My repair would have been to remove the plastic and solder directly to the terminals. I realize this is not for everyone. This should not be common especially with a heating circuit. That is why we have UL, these types of issues should be a UL fail. Excellent as always example. Currently with UA-cam changes I do not get the RE's I have to book mark and come back to see any additional comments. I wish they would get their act together.
I also thought of bypassing the terminals and soldering the wires directly to the wide traces. They really botched by using the blade connectors.
The same two wires burnt! The repair guy wanted +$600.00 to “ replace the control panel” plus labor… “it’s a lot of work “ he said! Thanks to your video and your thorough explanation I spent on a couple of connectors and a pair of pliers. Done!! I fee so proud of myself!! Thank you!!
Great to hear! Hopefully it holds up. If it doesn't, you can buy a replacement module at the links provided. Thanks for watching
Same with my dishwasher. Wire’s toasted. Hope the circuit board is fine.
It worked ! My wife is going to be pissed when she finds out that we're not getting a new dishwasher ! Thanks !!
There's a chance it may fail again, but hopefully yours lasts! Great to hear.
thank you very much for this video. This is exactly what happened to our dishwasher.

Breaker needs replacement 17$
Great video. My board was burnt worse than this one and needed to be replaced. Also had to put on new connectors although I didn't use heat shrink wrap on the wires. They had plastic on the connectors where I crimped them. Replaced board and it works perfect.
Glad to hear you're back in operation Don. I have many videos on my channel that cover a wide range of subjects, so be sure to look over my extensive video playlists below for other videos of interest to you, and most importantly share my channel with many others. Thank you

This is exactly what happened to my Dishwasher. I have a Kenmore 665 model. I had to buy a new control board because my current one wasn’t even working. The replacement was used but I also noticed a little charring on the terminals. I cleaned them up and works good as new.
Make sure you squeezed the female blade connector tighter before sliding it back onto the male blade.
Thanks for sharing
You're welcome!
nice
Thanks for watching!

These dishwashers are junk. If you google you’ll see plenty have caught on fire even. Our Kitchenaid is 7 years old.
Drain pump replaced 3 times due to getting noisy.
Wash pump / sump replaced 2 times due to wash performance
Top rack adjuster kit replaced once
Bottom rack wheels replaced twice
And the final nail in the coffin yesterday - this control board overheated and burned the relays. Wiring PERFECT! board? Smoked. Literally.
Just ordered a Bosch. Kitchenaid is dead to me.
We just experienced a burning smell with our Kitchenaid KDTE254ESS1 dishwasher, so thanks for the timely video. I appreciate the quick diagnosis of the location of the problem connections, but it is not entirely clear the root cause was identified, i.e. I don't want to perform this repair if will just reoccur or, worse, there is a more serious latent issue. One insightful review indicated..."connector corroded in the humid environment leading to high resistance connection". Is that your assessment as well? Thank you!
A loose connection, or high humidity can cause a high resistance connection.
Cool !!
Thanks for watching Italo!
My washer is 2 years old and same thing happened. This appears to be a manufacturing issue. Doesn't seem very safe.
Maybe give the area around the spade connectors a spray with contact cleaner/anti-oxidant during re-assembly. Most likely the connector corroded in the humid environment leading to high resistance connection (=heat), the spray will help prevent that happening again. I could recommend ACF50 for that job as it has worked for me but there are others. Once the plating on the connector is damaged it is very prone to more corrosion..
Yes, that would be a good idea especially if you live in a humid environment, or don't like to use A/C. Probably use a silicone gel, the same type used in telephone wire crimp connectors made by 3M.
Exactly the same thing happened to my dishwasher. KitchenAid should send out a replacement announcement for the wires. Have them replaced for free. Is a defect for sure.
I have exactly the same dishwasher and I had exactly the same problem about a year ago. I replaced the control board and made sure the connectors were ok but now I can smell it burning again. This will be the 6th major repair I have had to perform on this machine in 6 years of ownership. What an unbelievable piece of junk. On my board it looked like one of the relays was failing and that is what cased it to burn. However, that fact that some here were able to fix the connector and put the board back into service indicates that it is, in fact, a connector issue. Either way, if the controller board looks like it has been damaged by the heat you should really consider replacing it because it may be the next weakest link.
The dishwasher should've been recalled for being a fire hazard. Thanks for watching!
@@electronicsNmore Spot on. This is a horrible design. Mine burned the relays even with perfect wiring. I’ve replaced way too much stuff on this POS in the 7 years I’ve had it. It’s going in the trash and I’m Going Bosch 800 series... wish me luck!
I have a kitchenaid kudi01tj dishwasher that stopped during the rinse cycle and has no power or lights. Opening the front panel and looking at the circuit board shows no signs of burnt cords. Should I replace the entire board to be safe or could I get in with a multi meter and test connections? Do you have any more diagnostic help with this situation
i watched your video and I have a similar model. It's a kudc10fxss5.There was no visible damage to the mother board and i don't see a thermal fuse. All it does is beep quietly with no lights on anywhere.
It's possible it got damaged from an electrical storm. You can find boards online.
check solder on socket too
Correct, the male blades are very long coming off the board. They can easily get hot enough to melt the soldered connection. Thanks for watching!
I have a similar model with the similar control board. The DW is completely dead. I've tried reboots, turning of the CB for 15 minutes, nothing works. I took it apart and there are no obvious burn marks. Earlier models had fuse that was easy to replacce. The control board is 200 and the repair guy trip charge is 205.
It's easy to install. Buy one and do it yourself. I included links to buy it on Amazon. Look in the video description area. Thanks for watching!
@@electronicsNmore Thank you for the video. My dishwasher looks to be the same model and won't turn on. Nothing looks burned on mine but I do have power coming to the board. I'm thinking I need to replace the board but I don't know how to check to be sure. Any tips? Also, I don't see a link to buy it on Amazon.
Did/does this problem sometimes produce a bad burning smell?
That's the symptom!
my board looks burned up. and the big connector with 4 wires is kind of charred. i dont know if i can file those contacts shiny again. the wires might still have integrity.
May have to buy a new board.
I have the newer kitchen aid model to this one. No lights on the control panel and when I close the door, the drain pump comes on for a minute and then you hear a click at the control panel and nothing more happens. The touch control panel never lights up. I replaced the control board but still no lights. The touch control panel is 220 and a new dishwasher is 700.
Try disconnecting power to reset.
@@electronicsNmore I've done that many times. Its in my garage so I can plug/unplug. The door I have to hold the door switch for it to work, but the lights never come on the touch panel.
What caused this problem and how do you stop it from happening again.
Poor design. Not much you can do besides replacing the board.
Wow, an $88 board that will outlast almost assuredly the compromised card. I'm not so sure the savings are worth a correct repair, in my opinion. The heated terminals on the PCB WILL fail again. Its not a loose card connection point that makes the charred ends. It's continuous CURRENT that creates the excessive HEAT the burns the connectors. This wi/ll happen LIKELY based on hours of use.
It was a lousy design.
In case this helps someone... my Kenmore DW had no power, and all I needed to do was turn off the breaker and on again, as if it needed a power cycle/reset.
You got lucky, with the KitchenAid dishwashers, they're usually burned up.
you might want to inspect the wiring for signs of burning. and clean the terminals.
Great video but bad idea.the integrity of this board has been compromised. This is an accident waiting to happen. It burned up for a reason.patching the power wires may work for a while but will fail again.Hope your insurance company doesnt see this. .lol
Nothing bad about it. A poor connection was identified and repaired. The board has a known design flaw.
most older appliances are better (MADE IN USA) since they dont break down as easily and perform better. sure new ones have their advantages too much a shame that one thing gets better while another good thing taken away.
I agree.
New appliances are shit
For the price of that dishwasher, it should never happen.
I have a KitchenAid dishwasher 2 1/2 years old I don’t warrantee and I’m on my third circuit board what a piece of shit they won’t send me the board for his five year warranty on parts but it has to go through a dealer what ever you do do not buy KitchenAid appliances they are made by Whirlpool
KitchenAid should have a recall on these dishwashers.
Has long as people put up this crap they will make it and as time goes by it will only get worse. Same with Cars trucks Etc. Good video has always Doug. Another family member lost three days ago, due to these damn quack Doctors. Almost all are arrogant SOB"S.
The dishwasher in this video is very expensive, so the problem should not exist. Very sorry to hear about your loss. :-( Never a good thing to lose a family member, close friend, or pet.
I thought I was buying quality appliances made by KitchenAid but I later found out that they are made by Whirlpool. Paid over $13,000 for all new kitchen appliances they only have a One year warranty I paid $439 to KitchenAid to replace the second board and now that first repair is under a one-year warranty and they came out and put another board just last week. There were no burn spots and I have surge protectors on the panels
Excellent video Man
Thank you !😊
