Thank you so much Danny! I am a a 56 year old woman and just fixed the dishwasher BY MYSELF! Thanks to you of course! My part was ordered through Home Depot and arrived in 2 days for under $9. I'm pretty excited!

As you probably already know, jumping the fuse can fry other components, (even if it’s only for 2 seconds), use a volt meter and check it for continuity. The other thing I wanted you to know is that you SHOULD have used the wire(s) that came with the fuse. It’s a common problem that Whirlpool appliances have and Whirlpool had to come up with a “fix” for it. That fix was those wires. Just replacing the fuse itself may not be enough. The wires going to the fuse tend to over heat causing the fuse to blow. Replacing those wires that came WITH the fuse will stop that problem. It’s easy to do, just cut and strip the wires and stick them into the connector that came with the fuse and screw them down tightly. I can’t tell you how many times I have to go back to people’s homes and reinstall it WITH the wires because it can/will possibly blow again. I’m a certified Sears appliance technician. Good luck in your endeavors, all in all, this wasn’t a bad video.

      @DDIY-Guy  5 років тому +8

These are great advice. I am going to dig up those wires and install them like you said. I also got myself a volt meter so I can do continuity tests going forward. Thanks for commenting and the feedback. Really appreciate it.

The Patriots Brother... Ha, you are everywhere. I just had a thought. My heating element and HiTemp thermostat may be aging because I'm overworking them with all the HiTemp cleaning modes and my HOT water only averages maybe 85° because I'm on the 3rd floor of a 100yr old condo. Water pressure is OK, but I have to run HOT water for a while to get 100°+ water.

Newer dishwashers today need a minimum of 120 degree water or they will shut down and just blink

Accurate video, probably saved me hundreds of bucks today. I followed the instructions and cleaned it up. The only things stuck there are a few unsolved plastic wraps of detergent capsules; after removal, power and lights came back so I didn't even open to check the fuse/motherboard.
Who would think detergent capsules can cause such a problem!

Thanks for the great video. Very thorough and clear instructions. Professionally done. I had the same dishwasher and the same problem. I spent about of one-tenth of the money needed to call a repairman on the order of the thermal fuse. Following every step shown in the video, I did the maintenance cleaning, opened the compartment for the motherboard, replaced the thermal fuse. It is now working as before. BTW, I ordered the part from a local store and picked it up the same day. Thanks again Danny Jose!

Thanks very much. After following your detailed instructions (which were more effective than at similar UA-cam pages for this issue) I found the same kind of debris around the food chopper area - a plastic fork handle, a shard of glass, and a few toothpicks. After re-assembly I removed the fuse and found it had no continuity. I also jumped it per your instruction and the panel lit up. The KitchenAid website wanted $37 for the fuse kit; I got it on Amazon for $8 with 2-day delivery. This sure beats paying over $1,000 to buy a replacement for my 26-year-old machine!

At 8:45 into the video - two black relays on the right side of the board. One of mine had blown and burned a bit of the surrounding circuit board. $900 for a new dishwasher vs $150 for a used circuit board. BUT - - I was able to track down one of the relays online for $4! Removed the damaged one, soldered the new one in, and my dishwasher actually worked!

It could be just the type of fuse you got. Someone else suggested that you also replace the wires that come with the fuse you ordered. That might help carry the electrical load better. Let me know how it goes. It might just be by chance that it blew so shortly after....mine has been working since I first replaced it. @@DDIY-Guy Hi Danny, my dishwasher stopped again. I ran it once, it cleaned really well, but didn't drain. I pushed the cancel/drain button and it drained. I tried running it again on light wash. It didn't drain and now it doesn't start. I just replaced the grinder and the fuse when it wasn't working before and there hasn't been any junk in there to get clogged. Any idea what it could be??? PS: I don't have a sink disposal.

it sounds like a part of the board might be blown. if you check the board that you replaced the fuse with, disconnect all the wires and pop out the board. Look at the underside and see if there are any burn marks.

This got my dishwasher going, however, the unit stopped working again after one run. I guess the fuse is blowing for some reason further down the line (I ran it without heat/dry, so perhaps that rules out the heating element). Turbidity sensor? The motor gets a bit loud so maybe it is failing. I also just switched out the fuse as opposed to splicing in the wire kit, and some websites say not to skip that step, but the wires that come with it are only about 8" long so that just seems like splicing for the sake of splicing. Anyway, this is a great video and it seems to have been a permanent fix for many. Thanks for Posting!

Nice instruction. We clean the bottom of the dishwasher. Then reassembled. Tested the fuse by using a paper clip and we got lights. replaced the fuse and got lights. First test run was good the I just looked in the dishwasher and there is water at the bottom and no lights so I think we blew the fuse again. I guess we need to check the drain motor or hose.

Many thanks, Danny! While I agree with ThePatriotsBrother, your video gave me a great place to begin diagnostics of my dead touchpad.
SECOND TIP is another UA-cam instruction: With door open, disconnect from control board the power connector and both touch pad connectors. Wait 7 seconds, then close door. If pump begins drain cycle, your control board is OK! After this step, my touchpad came on again and all is good! Maybe this reset the control board??
THIRD (and it would be easy to first try this): My model is a 12 year-old KUDS30FXSS3. The repair sheet inside the toe-kick apron also describes a UI (User Interface) test: with all connectors connected, press any 3 touchpad buttons sequentially 3 times in a row. If UI is OK, all buttons/lights will simultaneously light up. (If less than all light up, there is an error code descriptor.)

Good video. The fuse was just $9.50 in Amazon.
Now the dishwasher runs for a while and shuts down with no power and after 20-25 minutes the power is back on and the light is flashing. It stops midway in the rinse cycle. I assumed the drain motor is not working. But once the power is back on (on its own) I hit cancel and the water completely.

Since my message I ran another cycle. It ran for 20 minutes then shut down. All lights off and nothing will work. I waited 20 minutes, lights came on and start was blinking. Hit start and the cycle continued. Died again after 20 minutes. Came back alive in 15-20 minutes and when I hit the flashing start it completed the whole cycle with the cycle complete light in the end.
Seems like something in the circuit Is heating up and trips. Once it cools it ready to start again.
Do you think it’s the control board or is there a thermal switch?

I turned on power after having already reset the breaker box house panel fuse and voila, dishwasher worked. But now the question is why? If the fuse inside dishwasher was good and the breaker in house breaker box panel was not tripped and even after resetting, why did washer start working, just by cleaning grinder and taking off door panel to test dishwasher fuse...not complaining but still a mystery currently

Once I removed my tripped fuse in my Kenmore 665 (part # W10195528), I used a cheap ($8) non-contact voltmeter to test the fuse wires for voltage after turning on the dishwasher breaker on my electrical panel. When the left side fuse wire lit up, I knew it was probably the fuse. I did buy a replacement wire set on Amazon (next day delivery) by using the part number above and will do my best to install the wires and fuse if possible, based on the Kenmore guy who posted below. 😊
