Welcome to the brand new TLD Interloper series (as promised). The ULTIMATE survival challenge has begun! Will I die? YES! Should be super-fun!!
(This is version 2.0 because UA-cam screwed up S1E1 the last time I started this series. Luckily we were only 2 episodes in when this occurred, but I had to start from scratch...this is the result. ENJOY!)
Interloper is the hardest mode in Sandbox mode (The other difficulties are Pilgrim, Voyager and Stalker). The game describes that this mode is "For expert players looking for the ultimate wilderness Survival challenge."
In Interloper difficulty, you start with the most minimal resources, supplies are very scarce and Wildlife is rare, but it is more dangerous

Let's Play The Long Dark is a thoughtful, exploration-survival experience that challenges solo players to think for themselves as they explore an expansive frozen wilderness in the aftermath of a geomagnetic disaster. There are no zombies -- only you, the cold, and all the threats Mother Nature can muster.

The Long Dark Interloper Facts:
Interloper was a new game difficulty, introduced in v.364.
The world becomes more hostile to you as you play. Global temperature drops, wildlife and fuel resources become more scarce, and Blizzards become more frequent.
Apart from the Hacksaw and Hammer, which spawn rarely in the world, you need to create all your own improvised tools (ex. Hatchets, Knives, etc.).
The best Clothing and Food items do not spawn.
Wolves are more rare, but also more deadly.
Wildlife becomes more rare over time.
There are no Rifles in the world.
The picture that represents this mode is the skull.

TLD's History:
Let's Play The Long Dark is a first-person survival video game developed and published by Hinterland Studio. The player assumes the role of a crash-landed bush pilot who must survive the frigid Canadian wilderness after a global disaster. The game received seed financing from the Canada Media Fund, and further funding was secured through a successful Kickstarter campaign in October 2013.
An alpha version was released through Steam Early Access in September 2014. The alpha version was later launched on the Xbox One as one of the first two launch titles associated with Microsoft's Game Preview Program in June 2015. Early reviews of the alpha release were generally positive, and the game went on to sell around 750,000 copies by April 2016. It was officially released on all aforementioned platforms on August 1, 2017, as well as for PlayStation 4.

Time passes whether you research or not, and calories burn twice as fast when you pass time, so it's worth it to research.
I only ever pass time when I’m fully rested... I don’t know why our dude here avoids sleeping so much

It's one of the most beautiful and challenging aspects of TLD, the way a silly mistake from 3 days ago can cascade into a life-threatening situation just a couple of days later. Cause and effect baby, cause and effect lol. Forget to check that your meat is cooked on Tuesday, and because of that spend half of Thursday night hiding in a ice hut from a bear as your condition dwindles away...
Just as an aside - "misanthrope" does actually end with a "rope" sound not "rop." Only flaw in an otherwise fun and entertaining vid lol. (Well, that and the "I kinda want to go for it" fishing at the end). ;) It's a fun series, and goes to show how valuable knowledge is on this game. What you are lacking in loper experience you are more than overcoming with knowing the maps, animal behavior, and situational awareness. Looking forward to the next one!
You can use the magnifying glass in the fishing hut ,....it is considered outdoors, so you didn't have to start that first fire outside.
You should really stop passing time and find something useful do to in that time. Like preparing your rosehips or the reishi mushrooms. And I think passing time/crafting outside with a predator near is asking for trouble. Btw, you can start magnifying lens to start a fire even if you are inside the hut/or a cave (outdoor cave, not one with a loading screen). YOu don't have to start it literally outside

LOL. They should add nuisance how-to books that you randomly find that are totally irrelevant like: *Servicing your Canon Printer*. And then you _can't_ burn 'em on the fire. They're just useless weight...Bethesda would be proud.

I don't know why, but that was hilarious to me.
You should have thrown a pebble at the bear when it walked by the second time. Also don't forget to check the houses that are down a side road, just before you hit crumbling highway. There is usually 2 full houses and 1 burnt down house.
"More presentable" - places raw rabbit guts on nice couch.... lol
Instead of passing time time to boil the water you should be fishing while the water's boiling.
Passing time should always be the last thing you do.
He passes time A LOT. Really bothers me.
don't forget the heavy hammer you dropped at the quonset hut.
55:50 you coulda fished while you waited for the snow to melt and water to boil, takes about 2 hours for .53 gallons at level 1 cooking xD maybe next time! Haha
But he donsent have a fishing tackle, he needs to cure some guts to make it first.

Yes you can wear out the hammer better to use a prybar as they are less rare than the hammers are.
Hammers can be repaired using a chunk of fir log and a tool box.
Also as you seen with the fishing you lose a lot of hooks and line leveling up and it is the same with arrows so that first batch of arrowheads you want to make as many as you can.
Kenneth Kaczypenski But, you can repair a hammer with one fir wood, but can’t repair a pry bar. Plus I haven’t found a pry bar yet. And yes, I always try to make a bunch of arrowheads, especially during my first forge run.
All three bears are often active on this map at the same time. I'm shocked you haven't seen them all at the same time before.
if you fish between the 2 big islands you can get bigger fish

When your condition is very low try to eat something to not loose any more. It's kind of dangerous anyway to have the condition drain so low. I'm in day 120+ on Interloper and feel worried when I'm only at about 66% of my max condition :D
Apparently she cannot eat just anything, 55 seconds in, as we witnessed the food poisoning episode last time, silly girl
I am truly enjoying your series, I have heard talk about another you did in the past I will get to that one, you have shown me more of the map of the long dark than most other utube players, cheers for that, and they move with the story line as to make the adventure yourself, and a hour long clip per time, ( in my mind not long enough, LOL), honestly truly enjoying your work here, keep up the commentary and how all of us survivors would feel and learn in he wild when we are exposed to the elements, nice to go hungry at -35C for two days, desperation kinds of sets in :) that's another story I wont tell anytime soon
Funny you mention live rabbits, I was freezing to death last night (in game) and had rabbits all around, and was thinking it’d be possible to stun and catch them and keep them alive in your jacket for added warmth 😅

Your Interloper videos inspire me to get to interloper mode! I learn alot about the map watching your videos.
Just in case you didn’t know... coffee will wake you up when you are exhausted. I believe you had coffee on you when you were waiting for the bear to leave you alone in the fishing hut, although I’m not sure if you’d be able to run on the little energy it gives you.
You're on interloper mode but the bear is on stalker mode.

I totally relate to the whole placing items in just the right places when managing your inventory. I usually rotate a few things on the ground so it looks more natural

Joe Hampshire Perhaps. I’m not sure if it would have got any running speed back though. And honestly I thought each time he walked away I was about to get the chance to move.

@@stefflus08 I would've dropped the extra gallon of water in the fishing hut, grabbed the hides and guts that needs curing anyway, head to the shack where the crafting table is...rest. Make tackle...start storing extra water at both places, less running and energy waste.
Dude had enough water to build a shark tank stored in that ice fishing shack in stalker mode😃
Fyi, the bears don't always respect the fishing hut boundaries like wolves do. I found that out the hard way.
Yup, I've seen this happen! I believe if you're in a hut with a door, and the door is shut, then you're fine. I've never had issues with a closed door hut in ML.

Man I found you hella late but I love your videos man, I learn a lot from your series. I used to play on PC back in 2016-2017, now I just learned it's on console so I'm doing my first run. Made it 44 days so far without dying thanks to what I've learned from ya 💯

i thought i was good at the game... im epic noob now it seems. i have 700 days played on my noob level survival play. you gave me tips that changed my game. thank you. i have been unable to live past day 5 of the the new bleak inlet challenge. im going to finish your videos, and maybe after, i can finish the challenge.

I think starvation and abuse of hibernation should have serious negative effects maybe there's a mod for it, like a mod where if you stay starving for a frequent and long time you'll get long term wight loss effect and to recover you must stay 50% above fed for 3 days or so. Like I get it, you can live 3 days without food max but if you literally live daily by an Auschwitz diet of 400 ckal per day you'll loose weight like crazy, this should affect long term your stamina, heat loss, regeneration of condition and healing. This does look like abusing a game exploit right now.
You pass time so much when you could be doing stuff like researching or fishing
You can make the fire with the magnifying glass inside the fishing hut :) it showed at ~16:00

I think that’s a glitch. I’m about 99% sure I mentioned that to Raph a long long time ago and they removed it...somehow it came back. I’ll double check if I can remember next time I’m recording in a fishing hut. Good catch!

I’m pretty sure that you can eat raw fish without getting food poisoning IF the fish is high condition. I once accidentally ate a fish I had just caught but suffered no ill effect
I think you can actually eat almost anything and there is a microscopic chance of not getting poisoned. I've done it once or twice...but normally I get punished for my foolish mistakes.
You can get food poisoning from raw fish for sure.

Ty The Weeaboo No knifes, hatchets, bows or arrows. You have to craft those. Hammers, hacksaws and pry bars do spawn though.

@@Accurize2 I don't think I have tried it, but when hubby and I play, we know that sometimes you can throw something like a rock, a flare or a torch and scare off a wolf, especially if you are in a place where they can't reach you. Seeing as how bears are afraid of fire and flares, I thought that maybe they might go into flight mode if they couldn't reach you in the fishing hut. I might have tried . LOL! Maybe we will if we get into that situation. :)

I usually go fish for 12 hours and cook for 12 hours...
I wish my skill was high enough or I had enough fishing tackles for all those line breaks I'd get for 12-hours.

@@Accurize2 It was the episode about the bear that kept circling around the fishing hut you were in. I was curious if the stones even do any damage, if you throw them through the non-existing fish hut doors.
