Welcome to the brand new TLD Interloper series (as promised). The ULTIMATE survival challenge has begun! Will I die? YES! Should be super-fun!!
(This is version 2.0 because UA-cam screwed up S1E1 the last time I started this series. Luckily we were only 2 episodes in when this occurred, but I had to start from scratch...this is the result. ENJOY!)
Interloper is the hardest mode in Sandbox mode (The other difficulties are Pilgrim, Voyager and Stalker). The game describes that this mode is "For expert players looking for the ultimate wilderness Survival challenge."
In Interloper difficulty, you start with the most minimal resources, supplies are very scarce and Wildlife is rare, but it is more dangerous

Let's Play The Long Dark is a thoughtful, exploration-survival experience that challenges solo players to think for themselves as they explore an expansive frozen wilderness in the aftermath of a geomagnetic disaster. There are no zombies -- only you, the cold, and all the threats Mother Nature can muster.

The Long Dark Interloper Facts:
Interloper was a new game difficulty, introduced in v.364.
The world becomes more hostile to you as you play. Global temperature drops, wildlife and fuel resources become more scarce, and Blizzards become more frequent.
Apart from the Hacksaw and Hammer, which spawn rarely in the world, you need to create all your own improvised tools (ex. Hatchets, Knives, etc.).
The best Clothing and Food items do not spawn.
Wolves are more rare, but also more deadly.
Wildlife becomes more rare over time.
There are no Rifles in the world.
The picture that represents this mode is the skull.

TLD's History:
Let's Play The Long Dark is a first-person survival video game developed and published by Hinterland Studio. The player assumes the role of a crash-landed bush pilot who must survive the frigid Canadian wilderness after a global disaster. The game received seed financing from the Canada Media Fund, and further funding was secured through a successful Kickstarter campaign in October 2013.
An alpha version was released through Steam Early Access in September 2014. The alpha version was later launched on the Xbox One as one of the first two launch titles associated with Microsoft's Game Preview Program in June 2015. Early reviews of the alpha release were generally positive, and the game went on to sell around 750,000 copies by April 2016. It was officially released on all aforementioned platforms on August 1, 2017, as well as for PlayStation 4.

I think I might have posted this on one of your videos before, but I feel like I have to tell this interloper story again. My son and I were playing TLD, and decided that we would try interloper. The first time that I decided that I'd try it, he was viewing my feed on steam. ...I spawned in on Timberwolf Mtn, basically naked and afraid. I ran. (I estimate about 100 yds) and got attacked by a wolf. Bleeding, and freezing, with no real options, I faded into the long dark. ...... 0 days 00hrs. I though my son was going to piss himself.
Try again? How did it go?
I would do stalker mode next. Then Interloper...Interloper is seriously tough. I got to know the map because I was playing since day one. Thanks for watching. I hope you learn from my frequent mistakes. 👍
Don't forget to light your torch and THEN light the fire! :) You only use one match and a low quality torch can usually burn through about 3 or 4 fire starting tries. :)

Was considering going to bed, maybe watching something nice and mellow to calm the mind down for the night. Wasn't expecting much from UA-cam. Then I saw you uploaded TLD. Perfect, and exactly what I needed.
Most efficient use of fuel for furnace is to gather 30ish sticks, and add them first to push the temperature to max you can. It is around 80C if my memory serves correct. Add coals after that point, and you'll only need 4 pieces to reach required 160C.

I had about 100 days in stalker save and decided to try loper after watching you go about. I’ve died six times so far and haven’t seen the third day a single time.

Playing on Interloper difficulty.
Probably logged hundreds of hours in game.
Still gets awestruck and takes screenshots when he finds beauty in-game. Such a great game and a great video series!

Despite what it says simple tools work too
In Hibernia Canning you harvested the metal locker to the metal container BUT directly to your left from that location are 2 wood crates stacked on top of each other, break them down, then behind the other crate is a backpack there and be carefull with hacksaw, Repairing the Hacksaw requires 1 Metal and a QUALITY TOOL Kit. LOL
Water purification tablets are in the medicine tab i'm sure :)

Just as I get home from work a new episode, doesn't get better than that.
What we do is only eat the bad food just before bed when we have the mushroom tea or antibiotics to take just before sleeping many hours and we wake up fine.
I'm enjoying your playthrough; there aren't a lot of TLD Let's Plays of this caliber. You're knowledgeable about the game - you don't make any newbie mistakes - but you're new to Interloper, so you don't know everything yet. That makes it so much more interesting than, say, GrayStillPlays, where it starts to feel a little stale and mechanical. Your commentary is on point, too, keeps it fresh. It's a really nice LP, a lot like Hadrian. Splattercat is on the same level, too, just a different style of commentary.

They should add Hunting rifle x3-x6 scopes. To craft it should be 2 magnifying glasses And Or 4 (depending on desired strength) and 4-8 metal scraps

When you actually are able to hunt a wolf/deer/bear, harvest the meat in short spurts, kinda like what you do when you "cancel out" of eating food. Meaning, on the harvest screen, choose to take 2lbs of food and when the harvesting timer screen starts, count to 3 and then cancel out of the harvesting action.
It will give you small portions of meat each time you do it, which increases your harvesting skill very quick. Also, all those tiny pieces of meat can be cooked in about 10 minute increments which ALSO increases your cooking skill VERY fast!
It is kinda repetitive but it will increase the skill by a whole level in about 1-2 animals unless its a bear, then you can prob get to level 5 skill just off one kill.

Technically you are cooking and harvesting. It isn't like the game calulates heat output correct anyway
@@Accurize2 That interloper eating style is also a kind of an exploit:) I think you would look really bad on 750 kcal/day after a couple weeks... And here you can be perfectly healthy and able to do hard stuff :D
I am enjoying your struggle - it looks so difficult, cold and scary. I prefer the background noises down quite low if that was possible so I can hear your nice voice properly - those sounds are dulling out your conversation. Fascinating game. I liked the cool way you dealt with the wolf coming after you a while back. Nice. My son plays this game so I thought I would watch a full episode - now I am hooked. Regards to all.
I think you have a good average when it comes to Bunnyball.
The way to deal with cabin fever at DP is to head to the Church light a fire in the barrel and boil water and sleep!
As for arrowheads well until you get to 5 you will find that it is as high as 40% of the shots you take you will never see that arrow again!
I'm about to face a winter-mix here in Virginia! First, comes the ice and then the 6 inches of snow we are expecting XD I will be happy to be in my warm house, drinking a TON of hot cocoa, and binge-watching your video's! =) (Edit: Hopefully this little snow storm will not turn into a certain snow-apocalypse! XD)

You are my favorite Long Dark player. I have learned much from you... But I was screaming at the screen when you were investigating repair requirements for the Hacksaw. I watched you mouse over every bit of information EXCEPT the bold red text at the bottom of the screen that says "REQUIRES QUALITY TOOLS". I cringed as I watched you waste 2 uses of your hacksaw on bunnies...BUNNIES! Fresh bunnies that you could process bare-handed but nope, the Hacksaw gets used. AAAUGH! The offense occurs around 24:40 or some such.

I seriously wonder why we don't have flintnapping in this game. I know flint ain't available in some countries, but Canada shouldn't be the one. This would make life so much easier, but to a fair point, raw material is everywhere, but napping is a hard skill, takes time, produces a tool you cant just sharpen back and it has a high chance to crack upon use. So imagine making a flint knife but you can only craft a 40% condition knife that has a chance to break on use. Imagine arrowheads that have 50% break chance.
They should add an option to use charcoal as replacement for coal, and not just for making maps. It would be interesting having to process firewood to use for some recipes, like, for example, imagine if the heat source actually had to be at least 210F for the water to boil, or at least 120F to heat up tea or coffee. It should also take the ambient temperature into account, I always found it funny how you can boil water in the middle of a blizzard on a +20F fireplace :)
I'm curious as to why, instead of waiting an hour when cooking, you're not studying a book for that same time?
Reading requires calories. A lot of people skip studying to save those calories. I'm not one of those people (especially the frozen angler, read the whole thing before first fishing and you won't break all your lines).
@@karinek1152 I see the rationale, but I agree. I'd rather burn a couple extra calories and gain some skill while waiting. I almost never pass time. There is always something productive to do if you stop and think.
Also now that I think about it he never reads because you can't read when hungry and he's always hungry or sleeping.

I always use my books to pass time. Even at the cost of calories it's a big help. Usually you profit on your calorie loss too

I started a new game yesterday, inspired by ur vids. Not Interloper. I'm not sure i would like it. I like pulling the trigger on the wolves and bears and making those bear skin coats, lol. I don't like running just to survive, but I do some times but I don't like it:) I'm learning some. Thanks.

I just watched the last 7 episodes and really love it. And there is a lot to learn. I'm playing Voyageur atm and want to get to the 100 days achievement, but I guess after that I'll give interloper a try.
How did you get to know the map so well? Did you do a dedicated exploration play through on an easier mode, or is it just the sheer amount you played?

You'll get there. I died so many times playing the survival mode in voyageur, and now it seems really easy. It's a slow, but very rewarding learning curve in my opinion.

some people were saying they never got food poisoning from a granola bar, and some statistics were thrown around about 20% and higher having a 1% chance of giving food poisoning, welp a 27% granola bar gave me food poisoning, so maybe that’s the 1% or bs idk, lol just FYI

I wonder if a robot was created with the mental and physical health guidelines and consequences and grew and learnt mentally and physically in the same way we do...alot of people dont seem self aware, just following the pattern of life, could be because my brain is different (I'm autistic) that i see people as an observer, my thinking is that, that robot would look like it has personality but what would give it self awareness?

I find that when i follow the human pattern of what we should be doing:work,money,self improvement, that time goes fast but when im not.....i enjoy "time" because i can "think" without choices and it doesnt feel like my life is coming to a fast end.
