Welcome to the brand new TLD Interloper series (as promised). The ULTIMATE survival challenge has begun! Will I die? YES! Should be super-fun!!
(This is version 2.0 because UA-cam screwed up S1E1 the last time I started this series. Luckily we were only 2 episodes in when this occurred, but I had to start from scratch...this is the result. ENJOY!)
Interloper is the hardest mode in Sandbox mode (The other difficulties are Pilgrim, Voyager and Stalker). The game describes that this mode is "For expert players looking for the ultimate wilderness Survival challenge."
In Interloper difficulty, you start with the most minimal resources, supplies are very scarce and Wildlife is rare, but it is more dangerous
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Let's Play THE LONG DARK | Interloper Can I survive at least a month on Stalker Mode in The Long Dark? Let's Play The Long Dark and find out!
Let's Play The Long Dark is a thoughtful, exploration-survival experience that challenges solo players to think for themselves as they explore an expansive frozen wilderness in the aftermath of a geomagnetic disaster. There are no zombies -- only you, the cold, and all the threats Mother Nature can muster.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    The Long Dark Interloper Facts:
Interloper was a new game difficulty, introduced in v.364.
The world becomes more hostile to you as you play. Global temperature drops, wildlife and fuel resources become more scarce, and Blizzards become more frequent.
Apart from the Hacksaw and Hammer, which spawn rarely in the world, you need to create all your own improvised tools (ex. Hatchets, Knives, etc.).
The best Clothing and Food items do not spawn.
Wolves are more rare, but also more deadly.
Wildlife becomes more rare over time.
There are no Rifles in the world.
The picture that represents this mode is the skull.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    TLD's History:
Let's Play The Long Dark is a first-person survival video game developed and published by Hinterland Studio. The player assumes the role of a crash-landed bush pilot who must survive the frigid Canadian wilderness after a global disaster. The game received seed financing from the Canada Media Fund, and further funding was secured through a successful Kickstarter campaign in October 2013.
An alpha version was released through Steam Early Access in September 2014. The alpha version was later launched on the Xbox One as one of the first two launch titles associated with Microsoft's Game Preview Program in June 2015. Early reviews of the alpha release were generally positive, and the game went on to sell around 750,000 copies by April 2016. It was officially released on all aforementioned platforms on August 1, 2017, as well as for PlayStation 4.

If a bear or a wolf is locked on to you and is close, it will run away if you become inaccessible. 57:02 the bear turns and runs the moment you strafe onto the cabin porch, which is too small for the bear to fit.

Hey excellent series and thank you, you saved my life last night.....Yes I decided to give interloper a try and I think I am on day 18-20. Anyway I made it from Hushed valley to DP then back to CH. (without a bedroll) So last night I made it back to JR island and no rabbits. I have no food and condition is really getting bad. I made it to the fishing camp (because of you). I still had to make some line and luckily left 2 cured guts at JR island.
Made the line then needed some fire wood. At this point I was in the red when I finally got to the fishing hut. With the heart beat pumping and vision getting blurry I managed to hook some fish. I thank you because I would have not thought of that location if I was not watching. I am by no means out of the woods but I have recovered to about 70% condition. Firewood vs weather is my issue at the moment.

Something interesting i just learned. If you drink your teas down to a small amount you will still get the full benefit as if the tea was a full cup and they weigh far less. One guy drank his teas down to where they weighed next to nothing and just stored his pain killers and antibiotics.

The lights in the village help, but the bear didnt care that much since it walked through them first. What I do know however, is that a bear will ALWAYS run away from you, IF IT CAN'T REACH YOU. If you're on a rock that it can't path to, or inside the railings of those houses (which you were in), then instead of running at you to attack, it will run away instead.

Thats the downside to crafting in Coastal as the Hut is a wolf magnet and the outdoor bench is a bear magnet.

Instead of losing condition to cold, consider breaking down all crates and chairs (those by hand) indoors for reclaimed wood, especially when your other option is simply passing time. Both use more calories, but one is more productive. Chopping pallets/limbs is best left for when you have more warmth protection with clothing and more resources and experience with watching your timers. Speaking of timers, watch that thirst meter. I noticed in the last two vids that your condition was sneakily ticking down due to thirst (about 2% per in-game hour). Interlopers drain their meters faster, and coming from stalker mode to 'loper is a big adjustment. Virtually a different game.
Entertaining videos, indeed. Thanks so much for sharing your learning experience. I'm really enjoying the series. I wouldn't be surprised to see this run go 100 days or more! Great job!

What do we think about ‘cooking skill level 3 or above, leave unpotable water outside to freeze for 12 hours below 0c, that needs to be harvested for 12 minutes, and yields %85 potable water for every gallon’? I remember as a kid in New England we would drink the sleet pools, hard ice with rain that was too cold to freeze on top, once the sun came up it you could always rely on it while out building in the snow. I always could remember how it tasted, but now that I shared this I seem to have lost it. Ice cold water has an almost buttery taste I think, or else I just might be lost in a haze lol. I just wish we had cold freezing of water... and maybe apple cider for apple jack lol.... because I always think to try it every update.

A torch provides 3 degrees warmth so carrying one night and day is a wise move. Why don't you light a fire by the workbench? Too bad you're aren't playing in Mountain Town. At the Farm House, there's a workbench in the barn (considered to be an outdoor area) as well as a fire barrel.

So the magnifying lens doesn't take damage for being used, huh? okay. I'm curious what'll happen when you scour out all the areas, and run out of matches. are...matches craftable? or will you hope to find a fire starter I've heard it mentioned, I presume it's one of those Ferro-rod type strikers.

    • @rhuarkk2138
      @rhuarkk2138 5 років тому

Tizona Amanthia matches are non-craftable and the fire striker is also non-craftable but loses only one percent per attempt, so the magnifying lens and sunlight become key to long term survival (:

[I don't own the game, and doubt I'd enjoy it, anyway, but I love watching youtubers play it.] So outside of having enough fire strikers, the magnifying glass...is like the only way...and even then, that only works on sunny days. yeesh. It feels like there should be a craftable starter, like a bow drill. has low chance of working, but, late game when your fire starting skill is really high, but you've used up all the matches...that'd be a good compliment to the magnifying lens.

Definitely worth a second play-through because it’s like a totally different experience. Now that Hinterland has polished those first two episodes, they are working on episode 3 currently. They have also been absorbing a lot of personnel from major AAA studios that shut down (Capcom and another big one I can’t remember). They also bought a bunch of motion capture equipment during the closings.

If you’re in pain after 12 episodes, perhaps this isn’t the series for you. Would you go to a restaurant 12 times if it was painful to eat there before stopping?

The fact that he is not a polished Interloper player is what makes this so interesting. There are a few of them with series lasting hundreds of days where they do everything perfectly, pretty much the same thing every day - so it's really not that watchable for me. There's no risk, and you know what's going to happen (right up until day 400x, when the wolf finally blindsides him). Accurize is skilled enough that it's not a shitshow, but there are still enough things that he's figuring out - enough risk of death - that it's a lot of fun for me to see how he deals with this stuff when it comes up.
He's got the tools and the bow, which means he's not a noob, though - and that's unfortunate in some ways, because the bow takes a lot of the sting out of Interloper. You finally have a decent weapon to level the playing field a little. Once he crafts a few more arrows and gets some practice, the game is just a slightly harder Stalker. Odds of lasting for 100x days get a lot better at that point. His talk of climbing Timberwolf Mountain makes it more interesting, though. I doubt there's much up there in Interloper, but I've never seen anyone attempt it - sounds great.
Hopeless Rescue was always my favorite "mission." Most people who've spent a fair amount of time with the game (mostly know the map) can get it on the first try - but they don't know that, have never tried anything like that before (e.g. the forced coffee march back to Desolation Point); it's fun to see what they come up with.
