Welcome to the brand new TLD Interloper series (as promised). The ULTIMATE survival challenge has begun! Will I die? YES! Should be super-fun!!
(This is version 2.0 because UA-cam screwed up S1E1 the last time I started this series. Luckily we were only 2 episodes in when this occurred, but I had to start from scratch...this is the result. ENJOY!)
Interloper is the hardest mode in Sandbox mode (The other difficulties are Pilgrim, Voyager and Stalker). The game describes that this mode is "For expert players looking for the ultimate wilderness Survival challenge."
In Interloper difficulty, you start with the most minimal resources, supplies are very scarce and Wildlife is rare, but it is more dangerous

Let's Play The Long Dark is a thoughtful, exploration-survival experience that challenges solo players to think for themselves as they explore an expansive frozen wilderness in the aftermath of a geomagnetic disaster. There are no zombies -- only you, the cold, and all the threats Mother Nature can muster.

The Long Dark Interloper Facts:
Interloper was a new game difficulty, introduced in v.364.
The world becomes more hostile to you as you play. Global temperature drops, wildlife and fuel resources become more scarce, and Blizzards become more frequent.
Apart from the Hacksaw and Hammer, which spawn rarely in the world, you need to create all your own improvised tools (ex. Hatchets, Knives, etc.).
The best Clothing and Food items do not spawn.
Wolves are more rare, but also more deadly.
Wildlife becomes more rare over time.
There are no Rifles in the world.
The picture that represents this mode is the skull.

TLD's History:
Let's Play The Long Dark is a first-person survival video game developed and published by Hinterland Studio. The player assumes the role of a crash-landed bush pilot who must survive the frigid Canadian wilderness after a global disaster. The game received seed financing from the Canada Media Fund, and further funding was secured through a successful Kickstarter campaign in October 2013.
An alpha version was released through Steam Early Access in September 2014. The alpha version was later launched on the Xbox One as one of the first two launch titles associated with Microsoft's Game Preview Program in June 2015. Early reviews of the alpha release were generally positive, and the game went on to sell around 750,000 copies by April 2016. It was officially released on all aforementioned platforms on August 1, 2017, as well as for PlayStation 4.

I know you aren’t in this playthrough anymore, but one thing that I do to help me remember where I left things is actually use the Note section to jot down memoranda. Places I’ve fully looted, where I left my stuff curing, where I made water/food/tool caches, even my plans for what to do when I next log hours on the game.
You should wear the other jeans just as another layer. It’ll warm you up slightly.
I think what they do with the cabin fever numbers is add some random number to it every time you check it, one to stop people from very carefully managing it, but also to stop tools like Cheat Engine. I've found the truck right beside the garage rear door on Coastal is a great way to mitigate cabin fever. It only gives +3 Communist units (about 5 Freedom units) over ambient, but it completely blocks wind chill, wetness, and it's 100 % safe. If you have a bed roll you get that temp modifier instead, but you can freeze to death sleeping in it if you're both unlucky and uncareful. Typically I aim for 4-5 hour sleep periods, and if it starts blowing you just go inside the garage. Once you get a full set of animal hide clothing it's 100 % safe though. Also a great place to read books.

I thought I had bad luck repairing things...that was ridiculous the crap luck you got repairing. Them boots don't like you. Feelsbadman
repairing hacksaw actually does require quality tools. it says so in red at the very bottom of the screen when you go to repair it.

Hey man love the content! Have been playing the game for about 3 months and have tried to watch others play before but haven't really found it interesting. But you keep it real, make it relateable. Keep up the awesome work! Oh and a little tip, you seem you always be wasting time when you have a fire going. For example with the deer, harvest the meat first as it only takes a few mins, then cook and boil water whilst you remove the hide - then you would have got everything done before the wind picked up. I have noticed that sort of thing a couple of times. Still, awesome vids!

The irony of going to sleep in a small fishing cabin in order to cure cabin fever!
Decided to give long dark a try on my ps4 after playing on my pc a year ago and watching you play the game. I went with interloper spawn close to milton by the plane and 15 minutes in I get frostbite (10 percent health reduction). Day 2 early morning, im on 10 percent health so i look around milton, get some supplies, heal up, find a prybar, hacksaw, heavy hammer, and a crap ton of cat tail stalks over the cross of three days. I am ready to go to the forlorn. Its Day 6, Im at maybe 65 percent and I decide to grab some saplings before I leave the area because they are close by. I get the saplings and see a rabbit. the murderer inside me wants some rabbit tonight so i kill it, start walking home, and two wolves are on me. I drop the rabbit but the wolves dont care at all. Back to back attacks. I am died on day 7 from blood loss.

If you are rusty with the game OR don't know the maps, you may want to get familiar with the game again with a lesser difficulty level. Interloper is unforgiving!
Accurize2 thank you so much for the great videos!! I'm a public safety dispatcher and it feels almost natural to be watching over a LEO. I've recently had a very bad accident where I fell on some concrete steps and have broken four ribs and two vertebrae on the mid/lower left side of my back. Cabin fever goes up from spending time, and sleeping. You're gonna need to be more effecient with your time.
Boo Berry I don’t think so, I was at 70% cabin fever risk and slept 10 hours indoors, it went DOWN, I moved on and it went up moving around, and passing time inside, and I slept again indoors, it went down again! And then later after absolving the risk I got the risk again at like 15%, slept indoors 10 hours and got cabin fever. So... I’ve decided cabin fever just does whatever tf it wants to.

Cabin fever is an average of your last couple of days, so you need to keep the average down. It's not immediately affected by where you are located....
Please stop passing by time. Read books instead. Use coffee and herbal tea at least sometime. And, btw love this series, thank you for it
The thing is he have to use food to read. And food is not that easy to find in interloper
Watched this while at work. Couldn't wear earbuds so had to use subtitles. Kept turning cabin fever into cabbage vapor. Ahh, technology. Great series so far by the way.

About failing to repair clothes - you have 2 or 3 books about sewing. It would be probably more efficient to first rank up that skill before atempting to use scarce materials like cured leather.
Has magnifying lens, checks weather outside, sunny no wind perfect. Goes inside with cabin fever and uses a match. Well, I thought to myself, atleast he used a torch this time.
When you wasted a match in last episode, I thought you decided not to use that torch trick and challenge yourself to do it hard way =)

Ohhh, it's those small cul de sac caves not the mines that count as "outdoors" got it. My understanding, is that cabin fever goes UP when you SLEEP indoors, but should go down whether or not you're in doors. it's the sleeping thing. I"m sure I'll be edited to the correct or most up to date rules for getting and curing Cabin Fever.

Cabin Fever has delayed on set. So if you spend Monday and Tuesday inside, you wont know that you got Cabin Fever until later. This is why your % is doing seemingly random changes, because what you did X hours ago is what effects the % right now.
loving the playthrough so far. makes me wanna give interloper another run soon. I will say you seem to be having much better luck with wolf encounters than I do. I make sure to not be stinky but they're still constantly hounding me whenever I venture out. all my "good" runs have ended right as I'm about to head towards the forge with metal and hammer only to be ambushed by wolves.
What was the item laying on the crate in lighthouse? Looked like an improvised knife. And you got the wood that you didn't see last time 👍

I know you realized after skinning the deer and boiling some water you could've been using the other element. I'm very conscious of maximizing use of a fire to save matches and would've started 2 cans of water boiling while skinning the deer. They'd be done when you were. There's no good use for a 3rd can, I don't think. You can only use 2 in most places and they're pretty easy to find or "make" when eating canned food.

If you crouch you can go down almost any hill without dying.

I notice using a snow shelter helps you stave off cabin fever for good - if you spend a lot of time indoors, sleeping in a snow shelter at night knocks off any inside time you spent during the day...can you build one in Interloper? I never tried only in Stalker...
Was there a under stair cubby at the lighthouse?

Chances with repairs using leather or cured hide are always worse then just using cloth. You can repair your clothes with cloth "no problem"... but once you use leather the game says: "oooh, too bad, but this doesn't work" ... always!

@@jensb3946 Quite a few studies show that popular games all have a sudden reduction in number of players and then the die-hard players continue on.
That reduction makes it look like games are dying but certain fickle or "bored" types of players go off to the many other games on offer - they are not able to enjoy the challenge or stress or whatever.
Good games are still being played years later. Having a "big community" does not guarantee a successful game - continuing players are what is important. So just enjoy the games you like and the people who play them too - don't be fooled by the idea that something has to be "popular" with many other people to be worth playing.
Have fun, enjoy the misery and stress that TLD kindly offers to you, lol. Regards.

Well I know that exact same feeling from a couple of episodes ago with the bear and the fishing hut.
The back of the caves are warm enough to sleep in or wait without fire.
It almost seems like cabin fever should be renamed "restlessness." Watching the video, it seems that when you're stationary, it goes up, and goes down when you're moving. I'm probably wrong, but that's what I've noticed.

Ok, I'm still yet to buy this game (sooner than later) but I'm enjoying the videos for now. I want to know, when you went to get the pot from JR island, why you didn't drop all but the most essential (and the ones you wanted to store on JR island) in the fishing cabin. I'm sure the weight of the backpack has effect on the fatigue, etc. Or am I missing something? anyone?
He probably could've dropped more, but the name of the game (especially on Interloper difficulty) is to be prepared for whatever plans you have to be messed up. If your plan is to go out to a fishing cabin for a night, there's a non zero chance that your next day will be an unnavigable blizzard, and you'll have to either stay there for another night in subzero temperatures, or have to find your way back to shelter without being able to see anything. In general, that's why I always find myself carrying a little more then I need for whatever plan I'm carrying out.

in my experience if you fail at mending something, you won't succeed at it until the next day. So if at first you don't succeed, do not try try again.
Late to this reply, but if I know I have limited supplies, I'll step outside a building and then go back inside to trigger a save right before I do any repairs. This way if I fail, I'll just reload the game. I normally do this just when I'm repairing animal skin clothes since I'm often limited on the number of cured pelts I have to use.

Does low condition canned food make you sick in interloper? I've played tons of stalker and i've never gotten sick off of canned or processed food.

Ryan Molloy Negative. There is a good chance Fluffy was in there. Definitely not worth the risk...torches are hit and miss with the wolves. Plus he really has no where to run off to.
Scruffy*😜 Fluffy is dead and gone. If scruffy was in the mine, he would have gotten you while you slept regardless. Wolves can attack you in bedrolls. And you had to pass through anyways...but I suppose it's a risk/reward deal. This game is wonderful in the amount of freedom it offers the player...to each their own. Ryan Molloy i call every animal fluffy. Mainly the wolves but i have called the bears fluffy. Especially the coastal highway one. But yeah the original fluffy is dead in the hydro dam.
Fluffy is dead, but not Scruffy. But Scruffy is not in that cave, he is on the cave at the far end of the map past the broken bridge.
@@jimjohnson3432 I thought so which is why I was so confused on why he didn't use a fully electrically lit mine to search every corner while he could. Thought maybe I was mistaken but even so...fully lit cave, you take the chance. Especially if when you lay down without searching you'll most likely get attacked anyways while you sleep.
Why didn’t you take the deer guts
This is a really old video, so I’m not sure about the exact situation. But I can tell you I leave guts behind a lot either because I don’t want the smell attracting wolves or I just don’t feel like taking them… I have never had a dire need for guts and usually end up with a cabin full of more cured guts than I can use.

Batteries are under the hood of the cars, but they serve no purpose as of yet.
You can always try the lemon and nails... combine some together with wires and you have a nice battery. You could try also a coin version interleaved with wet, salty paper - works too :)

Should be reading instead of just passing time while things cook for over an hour.
If you’ve ever survived in the wild you would know that you eat and drink something warm, every time you light a fire or it’s just wasted energy and time.
The skill books increase your points by a set amount, so you might want to read those asap and burn them, get rid of the weight.
