Welcome to the brand new TLD Interloper series (as promised). The ULTIMATE survival challenge has begun! Will I die? YES! Should be super-fun!!
(This is version 2.0 because UA-cam screwed up S1E1 the last time I started this series. Luckily we were only 2 episodes in when this occurred, but I had to start from scratch...this is the result. ENJOY!)
Interloper is the hardest mode in Sandbox mode (The other difficulties are Pilgrim, Voyager and Stalker). The game describes that this mode is "For expert players looking for the ultimate wilderness Survival challenge."
In Interloper difficulty, you start with the most minimal resources, supplies are very scarce and Wildlife is rare, but it is more dangerous
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Let's Play THE LONG DARK | Interloper Can I survive at least a month on Stalker Mode in The Long Dark? Let's Play The Long Dark and find out!
Let's Play The Long Dark is a thoughtful, exploration-survival experience that challenges solo players to think for themselves as they explore an expansive frozen wilderness in the aftermath of a geomagnetic disaster. There are no zombies -- only you, the cold, and all the threats Mother Nature can muster.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    The Long Dark Interloper Facts:
Interloper was a new game difficulty, introduced in v.364.
The world becomes more hostile to you as you play. Global temperature drops, wildlife and fuel resources become more scarce, and Blizzards become more frequent.
Apart from the Hacksaw and Hammer, which spawn rarely in the world, you need to create all your own improvised tools (ex. Hatchets, Knives, etc.).
The best Clothing and Food items do not spawn.
Wolves are more rare, but also more deadly.
Wildlife becomes more rare over time.
There are no Rifles in the world.
The picture that represents this mode is the skull.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    TLD's History:
Let's Play The Long Dark is a first-person survival video game developed and published by Hinterland Studio. The player assumes the role of a crash-landed bush pilot who must survive the frigid Canadian wilderness after a global disaster. The game received seed financing from the Canada Media Fund, and further funding was secured through a successful Kickstarter campaign in October 2013.
An alpha version was released through Steam Early Access in September 2014. The alpha version was later launched on the Xbox One as one of the first two launch titles associated with Microsoft's Game Preview Program in June 2015. Early reviews of the alpha release were generally positive, and the game went on to sell around 750,000 copies by April 2016. It was officially released on all aforementioned platforms on August 1, 2017, as well as for PlayStation 4.

When going up ropes it is always a good idea to have a cup of coffee ready to go for an instant energy burst!

I thought your initial idea was a good one: stay the night, make tea. Wasting a match made the difference for you. As a side note, most people neglect the teas; it's great when someone thinks about that. Climbing the rope - what I would have done on the ledge? Most of your stamina was still there, and the climb to the top was much less than the descent and re-climb. Finish the climb and come back later if you have to, or even start a fire and sleep on the ledge. Either would be more efficient. The lower part of the rope is clearly what destroys your stamina (I think the descent from the ledge might still take as much as the short climb to the top would have).
You were 30 degrees above freezing when you slept in two-hour snatches, and probably could've avoided the situation by sleeping through. Yeah, it's a judgement call, but there was a nice margin of error.
I agree with reserving your emergency stim. As you were speculating, though, I also agreed with those thoughts: spending resources to climb the ravine for a stim, a rabbit, and some shrooms might've been a break-even proposition at best, if the rope climb was perfect. No harm in picking up the wood you left at the top, either. At the end? You lost your resource cushion, and gained a stim; could be worse.
I don't normally dissect your videos like this. You usually don't mess around, lol. Wasn't your hour, happens to everyone - it's what keeps this interesting. No one will read this, anyway; the internet doesn't have the attention span.
~48:30 ...but I forgot about all that extra wood and bear meat. You're obviously still fine, lol.

You can still take batteries out of cars. They don;t do anything yet and are a pain in the butt to actually get in your inventory, but you can still take some of the batteries out of the cars
You just have to move it like you would any other item (moving a book/stick/sleeping bag) on the ground until you walk through a transition zone, then it will pop into your inventory, There is no good reason but it can be done

It feels like the "ritual" of drink when you go to bed, drink when you wake up" should be more ingrained. you're dropping sticks right be fore climbing up the rope, yet...your thirst meter is low. it does amuse me that you leave behind a skill book, though I fully know why. must still tear at you, just a little. inner voices saying "But it's VAAAALUBULE!"

The trick to the cave fire is to find the line in the cave at which the temperature rises and place the fire just on the other side of that line so it will last longer. The game considers that an outdoor fire and out door fires last longer.

You needed to drop 10 lbs on the ledge to keep going up. You dropped the 10 lbs and then repelled back down when you could have just climbed to the top and slept in the cave like you'd planned lol.

Interesting. the first time you went for the climb you started at about 66% fatigue , and barely made it to the ledge. This next morning, at FULL stamina, with a pause at the ledge you only consumed half of your fatigue. It definitely pays to be WELL rested. it seems that the fatigue depletion while climbing is constant, but the pool of "Stamina" at any level of fatigue is different. So the more rested, the more stamina you have before you're winded. It was very interesting as your stamina wheel depleted, your climbing speed got slower. I think that's the key, though. slower climbing means you're eating at your overall fatigue for a longer time.

You can drink 90%ish of Reishi or Rose Hip teas and save the 10%ish for later. This saves on weight in a pinch. The 1-10% still acts as a whole tea. As well head back to where you started for the saplings you couldnt get. If you haven't already done this. Love the content and hope you make 365 days.

Why is Frozen water not a thing in this game? if you put that many water bottles outside overnight wouldn't they all be blocks in the morning? The Devs were amazing with so many little details. You think this is just a design choice?

    • @SilencerNate
      @SilencerNate 5 років тому +1

If you think about it, there are more than a few questionable decisions. I assume because its a game.
As example, sitting in trucks, or cabins would only provide a warmth bonus if there was a source of warmth there. With the event killing all electronics/heat sources, caves should provide the most warmth over any manmade area (maybe excluding Hydro dam). The earth's warmth would certainly be better than some of the flimsy roofs.

Or you can drop 10# of stuff, climb up to the top and drop 20 more # of stuff, go back down and get the other 10# of stuff since the ledge is right near the top? Bring that stuff up and pick up all your stuff and carry on.

Hey if you see this, I would be very interested in seeing your opinion. What do you think of, even though they are different and hard to compare, KONA and TLD ? I now saw some gameplay of KONA for the first time on your channel and the atmosphere, the style of the trailer etc, seems like a huge copy of TLD. What do you think of them compared? I've played hundreds of hours TLD so far, none of KONA.
