Welcome to the brand new TLD Interloper series (as promised). The ULTIMATE survival challenge has begun! Will I die? YES! Should be super-fun!!
(This is version 2.0 because UA-cam screwed up S1E1 the last time I started this series. Luckily we were only 2 episodes in when this occurred, but I had to start from scratch...this is the result. ENJOY!)
Interloper is the hardest mode in Sandbox mode (The other difficulties are Pilgrim, Voyager and Stalker). The game describes that this mode is "For expert players looking for the ultimate wilderness Survival challenge."
In Interloper difficulty, you start with the most minimal resources, supplies are very scarce and Wildlife is rare, but it is more dangerous

Let's Play The Long Dark is a thoughtful, exploration-survival experience that challenges solo players to think for themselves as they explore an expansive frozen wilderness in the aftermath of a geomagnetic disaster. There are no zombies -- only you, the cold, and all the threats Mother Nature can muster.

The Long Dark Interloper Facts:
Interloper was a new game difficulty, introduced in v.364.
The world becomes more hostile to you as you play. Global temperature drops, wildlife and fuel resources become more scarce, and Blizzards become more frequent.
Apart from the Hacksaw and Hammer, which spawn rarely in the world, you need to create all your own improvised tools (ex. Hatchets, Knives, etc.).
The best Clothing and Food items do not spawn.
Wolves are more rare, but also more deadly.
Wildlife becomes more rare over time.
There are no Rifles in the world.
The picture that represents this mode is the skull.

TLD's History:
Let's Play The Long Dark is a first-person survival video game developed and published by Hinterland Studio. The player assumes the role of a crash-landed bush pilot who must survive the frigid Canadian wilderness after a global disaster. The game received seed financing from the Canada Media Fund, and further funding was secured through a successful Kickstarter campaign in October 2013.
An alpha version was released through Steam Early Access in September 2014. The alpha version was later launched on the Xbox One as one of the first two launch titles associated with Microsoft's Game Preview Program in June 2015. Early reviews of the alpha release were generally positive, and the game went on to sell around 750,000 copies by April 2016. It was officially released on all aforementioned platforms on August 1, 2017, as well as for PlayStation 4.

I like how this game realistically simulates artifacting when you're trying to see in the dark and your eyes don't have enough light to make a complete image. The "crawling grain" is the way the human brain arbitrarily fills in vision gaps.

If you drop cans of food, cups of coffee, or any cups of teas next to a fire it will warm them up without burning them and it won’t take up a cooking spot

Also...
You forgot the cardboard box at signal hill! And you pass time a lot when you could spend it doing other things instead... such as
Sharpen tools with the whetstone.
Harvest torches and old clothing.
Pick up more rosehips, mushrooms, and beards and spend the time crafting/preparing them.
Break down more stuff for wood or rip more curtains.
Love the series! My favorite one on youtube currently. :)

(Obs: Combat pants gives the best warm/weight ratio, but aren`t as much windproof. So they are the best internal layer pants, even for stalker difficult)
you looked under the 2 shelfs when you 1st came in signal hill but did not look under the shelf that had all the food on it. that is a spawn point for the heavy hammer if you needed it.
Blizzards are like family relatives. Shows up when at the worst time. J/K Hehehe

I love playing The Long Dark and found your “Year in the Dark” series a while back. I know this sounds weird but I love listening to your videos in the background while I do my makeup in the morning, or make breakfast lol. Your voice is super soothing for some reason 😂

Love your videos. I have tried doing the hunted challenge about 5 times so far and i can't even make it to the dam haha. I sprain my wrist randomly while walking and then the bear pays me a visit and I can't use the flair gun lol im going to give interloper a try soon

Glad you went back to signal hill. If you're going to leave your snow shelter for more than 3 days or so you should dismantle it. If it gets ruined while you're away you can't remove it and it'll take your good spot for a snow shelter. Sometimes up to 4-5 bears can be on a map at once depending on how many different bear spawns there are for that map. I've had 3 up at once on ML and 5 on PV before.
Wolfgar590 Well I guess that means my shelter next to the workbench in CH is screwed then. I never knew that. I always thought (I’m my very limited experience with snow shelters) they could just be repaired. ☹️😖
@@Accurize2 yeah I learned to hard way. Left mine up behind camp office when I went to FM to use the forge. Came back and it was ruined. Wish they'd let you destroy ruined ones.
man, those two pieces of clothing boosted your warmth by 4 degrees! that's worth while! I wonder about the socks.
Don't forget your tools!
You can open cans of food by putting them near a fire. It will cook them but slowly. It will never overlook them. Kind of a handy trick. Can’t do water that way but tea works. You even get credit for cooking the item if it you didn’t already.

You were out of cloth to finish the jacket repair, but couldn't you tear up the jeans you just took off and use that?

I know it hurts, but lately I've been utilizing blizzards for travel. Once you lose your warmth it's the same HP loss regardless, as far as I know, so if you don't have to go SUPER far, it can be a nice way to avoid predators. Helps me get into spots where I know for a fact there will be a wolf. Signal hill isn't necessarily that, although there is often a wolf nearby.
Drew Colcher Yeah good point that seems counter-intuitive. Once freezing you die at the same rate whether it’s 20 F or -80 F outside.
@@Accurize2 Yeah, seems a little odd, but I exploit it to get into like... quonset in CH, for example. Almost every playthrough I've done there's a wolfpack there. If it's a blizzard, however, I can get in, raid the whole village, and get out safely, with just a little HP loss and a small hit to my clothes. Has come VERY in handy for the 20 or so days before I manage to get a bow going.

Accurize. you really should avoid trying to start fires with reclaimed wood. Reclaimed wood gives you the lowest percentage to start a fire. I always carry at last 1 stick on me. A stick and cedar logs are the woods that gives you the highest percentage to start a fire. Reclaimed wood is simply the lowest wood when it comes to starting a fire. And I don't think you ever saw my comment from a previous video you posted where I mentioned that you should break down torches for a stick. Seems like a waste that you seem to always be looking for wood. But then you go and throw away or leave torches behind.
regarding not running into wolves much on interloper, maybe its just my bad luck, but I've consistently had the opposite experience with interloper running around mountain town. I could hardly get away from wolves while there and all of my deaths in that zone where from wolf bites.
So Interloper is Bear mode.

As someone that knows how to shoot, how badly does it trigger you (no pun intended) how your character holds that flare gun?

Is the crash at Timberwolf peak worth climbing in Interloper?
I just did a summit run on my current interloper run. It can be good if you go early game, but the loot degrades very fast in interloper. Also some of the containers can just not be there. I went just for the fire strikers and clothes. Neither container was even there lol. Still fun to do the climb though.
I have made a list of clothing Items that can be found on Interloper I think I have thought of everything but I'm sure someone will let us know if I forgot anything.
Headgear: Wool Toque, Wool Scarf, Cotton Toque, Cotton Scarf, Baseball Cap.
Sweaters: Thin Wool Sweater, Sweatshirt, Hoodie, Dress Shirt, T-Shirt, Plaid Shirt
Pants: Combat Pants, Jeans, (Cargo Pants??)
Socks: Wool Socks, Sport Socks.
Underwear: Thermal Underwear.
Gloves: Driving Gloves, Fleece Mittens, Work Gloves
Coats: Mackinaw Jacket, Light Shell, WindBreaker, Simple Parka, Ski Jacket, Sports Vest, Down Vest,
Shoes: Work Boots, Trail Boots, Running Shoes, Leather Shoes, Combat Boots.
Accesories: Wool Ear Wrap.
BKNPAC1 I’d kill for that wool ear wrap. Someone said the expedition parka can spawn in Interloper. But that’s all the evidence I have about that possibility.
Ear wraps are at the summit.
@@Accurize2 I have never seen the expedition parka in interloper in my 400+ hours of game play and 100's of hours watching TLD. Maybe it can "glitch" in. At one point climbing socks would "glitch" in but that has been patched out now.
Is there a chance for a run up to summit in this play through?
Ford Forever I’m not sure how I’d even survive that given the weather. I’d like to but it would almost be suicide I think.
It's about as bad as PV in terms of cold, but one hour naps in the backs of caves along the way make it doable. Just carry some coal to the summit and put your plane fire in range of the crates.

Will animals attack your snow shelter?
Hanz Berger Just the shelter? I don’t think so. You in the shelter...I believe so.
Being in a snow shelter acts like being in a car. The animal will walk up to your snow shelter and then walk around it a bit, then it loses interest and walks away. You can also fire weapons from inside the shelter. It's the easiest way to hunt bears and moose on interloper before lvl 5 archery.
@@wolfgar590 I'm closing in on day 50. Decided to head into Milton Nearly died trying to get to the plane. Never saw a wolf up there, got attacked. Anyway, I feel like I am on stalker, 3 wolves have old womans house cornered and I need food. Weather has been really bad in this region. I would hate to leave without checking out the houses in town at the very least. Not to mention Paradise and the church area. I'm only at half condition so being outside has to be short. Any suggestions? I may try to shoot my way out with arrows. lol
@@hanzberger8751 Milton is a great spot to level up skills once you have a bow. The six burner stove is op for lvling cooking skill and there are plenty of animals to kill. Just be careful crafting on Milton is crappy. So make sure you have enough arrows to make it worth. I wouldn't go to TM summit until you're full skilled and kitted at 50 days.

In Accurize's defense, it's his first playthrough, and he's learning to manage his time, the weather, different loot tables, and a new set of animal AIs. At over 50 days, I think he's doing darn well for a newcomer to this difficulty.
@@CaveangelMy comments were mostly stream-of-thought as I watched the video. He's doing about 150 times better than I've ever done on Loper.
