Welcome to the brand new TLD Interloper series (as promised). The ULTIMATE survival challenge has begun! Will I die? YES! Should be super-fun!!
(This is version 2.0 because UA-cam screwed up S1E1 the last time I started this series. Luckily we were only 2 episodes in when this occurred, but I had to start from scratch...this is the result. ENJOY!)
Interloper is the hardest mode in Sandbox mode (The other difficulties are Pilgrim, Voyager and Stalker). The game describes that this mode is "For expert players looking for the ultimate wilderness Survival challenge."
In Interloper difficulty, you start with the most minimal resources, supplies are very scarce and Wildlife is rare, but it is more dangerous
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Let's Play THE LONG DARK | Interloper Can I survive at least a month on Stalker Mode in The Long Dark? Let's Play The Long Dark and find out!
Let's Play The Long Dark is a thoughtful, exploration-survival experience that challenges solo players to think for themselves as they explore an expansive frozen wilderness in the aftermath of a geomagnetic disaster. There are no zombies -- only you, the cold, and all the threats Mother Nature can muster.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Long Dark Interloper Facts:
Interloper was a new game difficulty, introduced in v.364.
The world becomes more hostile to you as you play. Global temperature drops, wildlife and fuel resources become more scarce, and Blizzards become more frequent.
Apart from the Hacksaw and Hammer, which spawn rarely in the world, you need to create all your own improvised tools (ex. Hatchets, Knives, etc.).
The best Clothing and Food items do not spawn.
Wolves are more rare, but also more deadly.
Wildlife becomes more rare over time.
There are no Rifles in the world.
The picture that represents this mode is the skull.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TLD's History:
Let's Play The Long Dark is a first-person survival video game developed and published by Hinterland Studio. The player assumes the role of a crash-landed bush pilot who must survive the frigid Canadian wilderness after a global disaster. The game received seed financing from the Canada Media Fund, and further funding was secured through a successful Kickstarter campaign in October 2013.
An alpha version was released through Steam Early Access in September 2014. The alpha version was later launched on the Xbox One as one of the first two launch titles associated with Microsoft's Game Preview Program in June 2015. Early reviews of the alpha release were generally positive, and the game went on to sell around 750,000 copies by April 2016. It was officially released on all aforementioned platforms on August 1, 2017, as well as for PlayStation 4.

22:34 hides and guts will cure in the back of caves. You can't cure them with fires.
There's a point near the middle of the cave where the temperature distinguishes itself from outdoor temperature and indoor temperature. Campfires will burn much longer in outdoor areas. If I'm staying overnight in a cave, I'd normally drop a stick where the temperature changes as a point of reference and start my fire and place my bedroll where each will gain the most benefit.
Haven't played this game but I was thinking that must be the case with caves. Good tip.
Instead of throwing away bad torches, if you pick up a low durability torch, fuel your fire with it and try to get a better torch.
But throwing them away from the ledge was strangely satisfying! Made me giggle inside. 🤪
@@Accurize2 That's fair. It does make one smile a little watching it tumble over the cliff! :)
Forget the ropes. I want to free solo into the Ravine Basin, Alex Honnold style!!!!!!
did you get a chance to see the new doc Free solo? It's an epic rock climbing doc.
That fire in the cave, you did a wonderful job managing your time, harvesting the rabbit while the meat cooked. All too often, I see youtubers "pass till ready" on food and water, when they could do OTHER things like if you're boiling water in a house...go harvest some curtains, knock apart furniture. process the rabbit, or even read a book. So I'm glad you're making a strong concious effort ot make the MOST of your time. I hope it really gives you an edge and make things easier it's also better content!
Tizona Amanthia Thanks. Its definitely not second nature for me yet. I’m a recovering “pass till ready” survivor. But I am trying to use the time as best as possible in each situation recently. In Stalker it never really mattered, but in Interloper it’s definitely a huge bonus.
@@Accurize2 It definitely is! it's good to also remember that there's that "buffer" of looks like half hour AFTER something is cooked before it's ruined. i can't help but wonder...would carrying around ONE pot, and not carrying around any cans be a better use? since the pot can boil more water AND can cook food faster? I mean, sure only ONE cause it's heavy, but would it's usefulness for boilding larger amounts of water, mean you'd not have to boil as many rounds make it worth it's weight?
Paul Stamets, mycologist, has stated primitive man used hollowed out shelf mushrooms to transport fire embers.
Also, with cloud cover a greenhouse effect warms the air between the cloud and ground. With clear skies you loose this effect allowing temperatures to drop.
Here in the low arctic it is accurate that it gets colder when the weather is clear. The sun doesn't even heat your face through a window until later in spring.
It shouldn't be that high up tho. And it would be nice to see the Sun height and temps actually change some over a year even tho there is some kind of nuclear winter or something going on in tld.
Geomagnatic storm
Yes, but I don't feel that explains how it is winter all year on its own.
Agree. Here in England clear sunny days can still be cold, whereas days with lots of cloud coverage are often warmer.
Be sure to get all of the sticks, you will need them, and collect the mushrooms and rosehips. Making teas increase your cooking skills. Heat up all the foods you can to increase your cooking skills and the warmth bonus. Oh, and all the cattails! I have noticed in other playthroughs that hides and guts will cure in caves that have high heat.
Hide and guts cure in the back of caves and in explorable caves, even if you don't have a fire.
u can eat 1 or 2 cat tail before sleep while waiting to blizzard die for the condition its interlooper man. if u die there is no point to saving them
You should spend a few days fishing and cooking so you can increase your cooking skill faster. Also, prepare a bunch of every kind of tea/coffee you can make so it increases your skill faster too. The sooner you can eat regularly and get the well fed boost, the better, that extra carry weight is going to be a really big help esp in places like the summit.
Idk if you know this but if you put tea/coffee cups around the fire (not in the actual cooking slot but as close as you can move it to the rocks) it will heat up the beverage for you so you don't have to waste a cooking slot if you wanted a quick warmth bonus.
Last and you prob already know this but if you shoot a bear or wolf directly in the face with the flare gun, it will kill them. Some times they run off but, I've seen and killed a bear doing that. They just need to get real close lol and you don't miss
I'll keep all that info in mind for when I play next.
Accurize: "Be gone torch"
Torch: **while being thrown away** "Whyyyyyy?"
XD
A emergency stim is always in the ravine where the flare gun is
Love your videos. Before you go back down to the shore you should take all the hides and guts, etc., and head back to the dam to craft more cloths. You have enough food on board and there's a ton of wood to make fires. You could spend a few days there with out worry from the weather and predators, recover all your health, and leave with better protection from the cold. Maybe even a bow and arrow. Plus you have a crow bar now. There were a few lockers in the dam you did not open. They may have something useful.
WTG you are stating to get into the interloper state of mind!
BTW the flare gun is your best defense until you get the bow and at least level 3 as it can under the right conditions and if you get desperate even kill a bear if you hit it in the head!
At this point you are not yo-yo'ing you are just hurting yourself by not eating.
Bothers me so much
36:22 😂 I commented about that backpack on like episode 3 or whenever it was that you were there, nice to see you went back for it xD
All that rabbit. Good thing the game doesn't throw rabbit starvation at you. That would be so cruel.
I was wondering if someone was going to mention that. Outwardly well fed trappers in America in the 1850's died due to a diet based almost entirely on rabbit meat. I don't remember the specifics but apparently rabbit meat does not provide sufficient essential nutrition and must be supplemented with other foods. In fairness Accurize should be ok because his character is not eating solely rabbit meat, although it does seem to constitute a large part of her diet. Ever tried rabbit? Its ok. A little bland, a little rubbery. A bit like white chicken meat.
@@morningstar9233 I've had wild rabbit, but never domestic rabbit. From what I understand, meat from domestic rabbits is more rounded out for nutrients than wild rabbit; but I'm still not sure what would happen on a steady diet of them. As for the game, well ... it's a game. The makers could put Pokemon in it, though I doubt anyone would buy it after that. :D
:)@@CroneLife1
@@morningstar9233 A diet of rabbit lacks fat. Protein poisoning also called Rabbit starvation is real and potentially dangerous, even fatal in extreme cases. When the body is exposed only to protein source of nutrients for the procurement of the daily calories and is devoid of carbohydrates, it draws its energy from the fat stores from your own body.
@@michaelofmarble2094 Thanks Michael. I knew there was a danger with rabbit meat wasn't entirely clear why. Interesting what you say, its in essence what followers of the currently popular keto diet are doing, in order to strip fat from the body. Obviously they go about this in a safe way, but the idea is to get the body to burn fat.
32:03 Mrs. Snuffles; a widdowed, half-blind old rabbit shuffles along the frozen bank, looking for catheads. Suddenly her search, becomes a little easier.
We might need to do an intervention for these torches. We only want whats best for you man.
imagine if interloper made you manage your own exertion as well? Make a fire too hot or exert yourself so much that you start sweating and that causes negative status? I think the game would be impossible at that point, but it's fun to think about.
And Your sweat freezes and that would give a higher chance of getting hypothermia and frostbite?
does anyone else end up just listening to this in the background? i feel like most of the time i sub to a game player is because of the narrators voice...
I too just listen. I avidly am avoiding spoilers as I don’t want to learn the map by watching, I wanna learn the map by playing👍🏻. I do think he has a great voice for this.
Agree. The guy has a very soothing voice. He could be reading instruction manuals for medical equipment and i'd still listen. That's not to say I don't enjoy the series because I'm loving it.
Sometimes I'll listen to older episodes just to listen and fall asleep 😂 His voice is just so soothing.
your videos always relaxes me!🤤❤️
Same. I find them almost hypnotic.
Same here. If I'm watching while in bed or on the couch, sometimes I fall asleep 😂
I love this series, thank you for the long episodes!!
I'm slowly catching up. Made it down to the Ravine Basin to spend the night.
YAYYYYY!! A new one so soon!
Enjoy!
Hey Accurize when you make it back to Jack Rabbit Island go to your closet in the bedroom and put your other pair of jeans on....... you said last episode that someone in a previous episode had mentioned you were not wearing them and you missed them twice as you looked through your inventory. The second pair was in the closet not your personal inventor.
BKNPAC1 he mentions that in the video
I saw that, too. He's all "you guys said I need to put my other jeans on, but I'm not sure where I left them" as he's scrolling through the clothes in the cabinet, where the jeans are 🤦😂
You're killin it man...well done.
accurize and the "male survivor" would make a great couple of buddies
ok so here's my idea, Why cant we just use the lantern for a firestarter or just break it down to make one, It has an inbuild sparkler, it uses minuscule amounts of lantern oil to get started and it burns with an open flame. Than again we have so many other ways to start fire, like simple friction sticks, flint and steel that you could forge, in this game you're surrounded by steel junk, and all it takes is some cotton cloth in a can on a fire to make perfect tinder.
I'm late to the party but I'm loving it. Thanks.
A rough year in The Dark? Will he make it 365 days on interloper?!
I listen to these while I work and what I learned from you enabled me to FINALLY make that 50 day trophy. My current Voyager playthrough is day 88 and I couldn't have done it without you. Thanks :)
Trevor Goodchild I know what you mean. I watch this guy and say to myself that it's doesn't look hard. Then I play it myself on stalker and am plagued with doubt and indecision.
it was technique I was missing. Skirting around the hillsides, defrosting carcasses (I had NO idea you could do that), allowing starvation except during rest and just good supply management. Now, I'm going for my centurion badge at the Lake Camp Office and then I will attempt to get to Pleasant Valley & Coastal Highway. I am unsure how to get to these places but after my 100 day trophy, I am willing to take some more risks and explore. Good Luck Survivor :)
Oh I’m fairly certain I’ll die waaaay before 365 in this one. I’m learning interloper and making a lot of mistakes....I’ve had it too easy for too long and it shows. 🤫
Good luck getting to triple digits!
This is obviously a comment on an old video (I'm caught up on the latest, haha) but one of the things about interloper that always bugged me was that in the effort the developers made to make things harder, they took stuff away that just doesn't make logical sense to me. I always assume modes pilgram to interloper is basically how "soon" you start off on the island after the great collapse. Pilgrim is obviously pretty soon - after people have died, but not so long after that you still find a lot of stuff that's not ruined and animals are still weary of people. Each mode goes up accordingly until you get to interloper where it's possibly been years after the collapse. It would explain the continual lack of resources to begin with or resources in good condition, etc. But it wouldn't explain why you wouldn't find knives/hatchets/guns (in interloper). I could understand that you may never find bullets or cleaning kits as people attempted to make the most of their survival by using every last bullet. But the actual knives/rifles/bullet casings should still be there in my mind. Or, at the very least, a few of those items spawn in with low condition. That's just the biggest immersion breaker for me. Stuff is used up in interloper, obviously, but I'd still expect to see the occasional shitty revolver with empty shell casings that would require you to craft new bullets in order to use the gun.
there are a bunch of birch on the ground, that can be used to improve health
YAY new vid, im glad i hit refresh on youtube
Waisting SOO much condition with not drinking, time after time. Has a big impact in the long run, he must have lost minimum 10 maybee 20 condition in total by not drinking while having water.
You always forget to check your thirst. You get a double hit on your condition. And i believe hunger gives you 1 hp per hour and thirst 2hp.
Good job
More interloper survival :D
Way late, but I can't stand that he using tin fans and didn't bring one of us 3 pots!
Birch bark TEA
You slept for 10 hours at 124 degrees? Lol. Total dehydration. Great vids though.
Idk if your going to see this but you can make a snow shelter with 15 sticks and 5 cloth maybe that will help with cabin fever
I play Stalker so I don't know for certain if it will work on interloper but I set up a snow shelter just behind the Jackrabbit Island cabin (the side facing Misanthrope's Island) and use it as my main sleeping location. Wolves don't bother you there and, at least on Stalker, it is warm enough to sleep through blizzards just fine. Might not have enough warmth bonus to manage that on interloper though, not at least until he has better clothes and ideally a bearskin bedroll.
I have yet to play it on interloper i dont really know my way around stuff and xbox1 is alot different then pc
How do You run so fast Even with all that weight?
is sleeping for short time bad or why is he always rather passing time?
What about the wolf skin coat
18:53 Why are you building a fire with coal when you are warming already in the cave?
Because....... 🤔
Why do you hunt rabbits when you don't need them?
This fun little game is fine and all but when will you attempt a REAL! challenge. Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead!
DrQuinMagna Unfortunately, it’s not a good game from a viewer experience standpoint. Imagine the viewers attempting to read a purely text based game on their tv at home.
@@Accurize2 Seeing many channels make extremely popular videos on CDDA I have to completely disagree but you know your viewers and what they're capable of watching and following better than I do so, All good.
Its so annoying seeing you leave the birch bark, its such a valuable medical item which when made into birch bark tea can restore some of your condition
MrSlick16 Well Mr Slick what is really annoying is you not realizing that this episode was recorded BEFORE birch bark tea was added to the game in a recent update. At this point in the game development birch bark was only used for tinder, and I had no need for it.
@@Accurize2 fair, my apologies i didnt realize it was from a recent update
I believe that update was from July 2019
