There is a boss pedal for everyone and whether or not you like the tones of any in particular, it’s irrefutable how quality and price effective they are. With that said, they’re also insanely progressive, their output over the last few years has been crazy, let alone having a collab with JHS, waza series etc.,you rarely ever see companies this large making smart, in touch choices like this. It’s a beautiful thing and speaks volumes to their leadership
I started out with a 100% Boss pedalboard back in the early 1990s,, and last year, rbuilt an all-new 100% Boss pedalboard for my bass guitar. I couldn't be happier. My first synthesizer was a Roland SH-101 I purchased at Manny's Music on 48th Street in NYC in the 1980s, as a teenager. Roland and Boss have been a part of my life for almost 35 years and will always be a part of my life.
Haha well there is that, plus its great viewing for us viewers, everyone's a winner :-) @@ThatPedalShow Cheers Mick keep on doing what you're doing, its great!
Certainly all who have pedals have had 1 or 1000 Boss Pedals. When looking for a new effect, I always start with Boss....and usually end there as well. Thanks Yoshi for allowing Dan and Mick a look behind the curtain. Excused me whilst I go explore more BOSS TONES
You and Ola Englund did a great job of convincing me that Boss Pedals aren't always bad. After years of using it as a doorstop i took my Boss Metal Core ML-2, plugged it in front of the amp, turned off the lows and it kinda works. Now it's on my board for the first time in 11 years of having it, don't have to buy a Metal Muff and the door is now stopped by the NS-2. Thank you Ola and TPS!
Now that they're out we're able to play with them and see what they'll do. I bought a Stage after playing with it for a couple hours. It's a nice little amp and I'm getting compliments about its sound from people. There are lots of videos of them, with the majority of the videos having bad sound that doesn't come anywhere close to what these sound like. My main amps are all boutique tube, and the Stage is to be a light travel amp, but it's really a nice grab-and-go amp. It's worth checking out!
Love this. Since I bought my very first Boss pedals in 1982 (an original Boss Metal Zone - wish I still had it), I’ve always had a preference for Boss Pedals. I’ve owned all their MultiFX processors GT-3, 5, 6, 100, always been amazed with their quality, and the fact they’re pedals are built like tanks. Great insight on the pride and passion they have for building and designing their products. Thank you.
Back in the '80s, I only had Boss pedals, because that's what every store sold. I still have a pedal from that era that I sometimes have on my board - the OS-2 Overdrive Distortion - because it still has such a perfect sound for that Strat neck pickup blues tone. I pay attention to everything Boss does because they're still always doing interesting and sometimes, great things. Recent purchases are the Angry Driver and Blues Cube Artist, and both get a lot of use. Thanks!
Throughout my career (40 years), I have owned more Roland and Boss products than any other company, possibly as many as all other companies combined. Boss pedals (by the ton) and a couple of BCB-6 cases, Roland and Boss rack effects (lots of them), a total of 4 MC500 sequencers, synthesizers, rack synths (a bunch of them), a couple of samplers, and more recently a couple of GT-1 multi-effects pedals... I'm probably forgetting lots of other things... they have all played a huge part in my professional career. If there was a company that shaped my sound as a multi-instrumentalist, more than any other, I guess it would have to have been Boss/Roland.
Mick that black LP custom suits you. I've had lots of Boss stuff over the years. Currently the Waza chorus is on my board and I love it so much. I had a DS1 forever that I loved too. You do sort of forget about them because they've always been there, but they make good stuff.
@@ThatPedalShow Who would have the thought the Strat Journey might be derailed by a LP Custom! Tad OT, but you ever scratch that 'Jaguar itch' you were talking about on the video you guys did at Fender?
Hold the front page for the next time Mick casually lets slip about what he’s “accidentally” bought . Can’t wait. Living the dream, boys, living THE dream ...!
Random (if ultimately pointless) little story here. As I was watching this I was setting up some of my board to run the various PC editors, forgetting one of them doubles as an audio interface, meaning that once I'd connected said pedal to the PC I got the last 2 minutes of the video actually running through my pedalboard (which, to keep things sort of pertinent includes a DD500). Sounded more than a little trippy to hear Mick and Dan being run through a bunch of pedals on an ambient patch. Told you it was pointless, but it just tickled me a little bit.
So cool to see this. You guys deserve the hospitality! Good to know market giants value TPS like the rest of us. As for pedals, nothing will ever replace my BD2w, whatever else changes on my board.
Wow, y'all's tones were locked in! I switched to the Roland Blues Cube close to a year ago and will probably never use a tube amp for weekly gigging again. And my first pedal was a Dd-20 delay that has never come off my board. Roland/boss has played a vital role in my guitar journeys. Wish I had one of those new dimensions pedals. Thanks for the videos!
Always enjoyed certain Boss and Roland products. Your insights reaffirm my respect for the company and its people, despite, as you say, the “ubiquitousness” of the products. Thank you.
What I find interesting about Boss is that consistency has become such a gigantic thing. It's the exact opposite of (say) the old EHX way of using up the available transistors, tweaking the circuit a bit, and just going on from there with something pretty close to the last version. You buy a Boss pedal now, and for the most part you absolutely know what you are getting. In many cases, this means they've gone digital for an effect usually done analog - chorus, phaser, flanger, and even for fuzz, weirdly enough.
It is possible here in the states to go from the production floor to being plant manager or higher, but funnily enough, the places where it's possible to do that are mostly Japanese owned automotive plants. Those places are a huge part of what keeps working class Americans able to provide for themselves and their families. They really are phenomenal at running huge businesses and providing opportunities for every employee.
Boss invented so much, Chorus, compact digital delays, DD-2, SD-1, CE-2, HM-2, BF-2, the list is huge. When I was a kid Boss was boutique, the best you could get. Now there is so much snobbery around pedals you hardly ever see one on a board, it’s insane.
You guys are truly starting to spoil us. Thanks & blessings every single day for your content! Please do a vid or comments on the specifics of the capacitor discussion for us engineers. Also: I will buy the Dan & Mick album when it is released!
My board is mostly Boss. They just tick all the boxes for me, sound great + reliable + easy to find + good prices new and used. if they moved the jacks to the top of the pedal they would be even better!
Wow I've lost touch with your channel for the past 8 months id say, and just started picking guitar back up after a long hiatus . I'm really happy to see y'all got to go to Japan that's fukin amazing. And with big fuzzy rabea. That's great
You guys have to do some sort of small tour. Play a few gigs globally in major cities around the world. Jam a bit, have a little live TPS, etc..To attend each person must bring and show a vintage pedal at the door. 😊
We would so love to do this. TPS basically runs around break even - we don’t make much money - and unfortunately touring costs so much. Maybe one day if we can sell a few more T shirts!
That Pedal Show I totally understand. Tour might have been the wrong word. More like a few seminars. Not that changing tour to seminar lowers the costs. LOL. I think that I can speak for all of us when I say that TPS is must see tv for guitarists from beginners to professionals. Even if in a lifetime we could never afford any of the pedals that you guys show, there is a ton of useful information that is invaluable. Wet / Dry, headroom, attenuators, pre and post amps, capacitors and diodes. It would be badass to see you guys in action.
Glad I purchased a Boss DD-500 Delay ( which I love ). My time spent in Japan was Epic. Thanksgiving Day is Thursday here in the U.S. One of the things I'm thankful for is you guys - well, that's two, actually - especially for videos on two consecutive days this week!
Great vid, I wish that museum was open to the public. I just got back from Japan two weeks ago. Got myself an awesome deal on a Fender MIJ 70's Telecaster, new old stock more than 50% off a brand new one here in Oz. Picked up a few pedals too! The shops are simply awesome. Did you guys get to Get Stomp in Ikebukuro? It's a just a shop full of nothing but pedals.
FaB show fellas - a fabulous insight... I was looking forward to this one and it lived up to its billing - I now feel like I want to work at Boss! Hope the Nextone show is coming soon... sounds very interesting
When you guys get on to experimenting with rack gear, make sure to have an SDE-3000. I've heard a lot about that one. I think there may even be some confusion with the Korg SDD-3000 that Edge is kind of known for using.
Forgot how great Boss products are... just got my Dimension C DC-2 Waza Craft Pedal (flipping amazing), and I dug out my old DD-3 delays! They are staying on my board, the sounds are fantastic! Thanks for the look inside this remarkable company. Seriously, the DC-2w is UNBELIEVABLE! It also sounds unreal when you run an analogue synth through it... such a great piece of kit!
Very fascinating chaps thanks for making this video! I agree, Boss pedals shouldn't be overlooked they can be excellent tools for more than just the effect, the buffers and the way they can be used to shape your tone.
Great video Guys! Great playing and the Nextone amps sound awesome! I'll always love valve amps but I confess that I'm quite taken by Boss/Roland gear too - I have quite a few different "Cubes" and pedals etc. My most recent acquisition is a Katana Artist, which is great - I don't care for the high gain (lead and brown) settings so much (and I don't bother with all the computery stuff) but the crunch is VERY "realistic" when used as a regular amp. Anyway, again, great video :)
How cool! I love my old GT-5 and my new DD 500 and my other Boss-Pedals! Volume and WAH and so on. Of my amps, the Blues Cube HOT is the sweetest of all. I have not really realized how much equipment I own from BOSS and Roland. Japan is the best! Equally cool is the VG-3 from Roland and Fender. Believe me - all the other stuff (Mesa Boogie, Diezel, LAB L5, Music man) is not so nice like BOSS! Thanx Can & Mick!
Wow what a place really got the feeling it was like a religious experience for you maybe it was the lack of sleep but you both looked quite emotional. do you know if boss do a public tour ?
I'm really enjoying all of your new and different content (not that I don't love the regular stuff too). A note on your note about the audio, since the cameras are on tripods you should be able to turn stabilization off and that would save you from that noise.
Good things for good people. Looks like an awesome trip guys. When are boss Japan coming to that pedal shed? Well deserved trip away thanks for all the great content.
Great stuff! A request please for when you come to do the thing on the Nextone amps: there are some worrying experiences surfacing on forums re Roland/Boss amps being essentially disposable - and that Roland/Boss UK don't want to know for any repairs out of warranty - so 13 month old Katanas and Blues Cubes are being thrown away. It seems that even the usual authorised repairers you get referred to are not able to get any parts. It's a really worrying trend - it has stopped me buying a Blues Cube (and I love the look of the features on the Nextone - but again if this is the case definitely won't buy one) If you could ask your Boss chums what the position is on this that would be great!
Both looking really at home with those guitars. Mick, there's a Les Paul for you out there somewhere. Dan, what did you make of the Japanese tele? Tried one recently and hated the laquer they use. Beautifully built but just wanted to attack it with some fine grit to take the sticky shine off it. Both sounding seriously good though. Great show. Cheers.
One day Fletches! I’ve had a few LPs and while I love the sound of them, the ergonomics never works for me. Okay stood up, very hard work sat down. That Tele was really cool. Like you I’m no fan of poly finishes, but something about that guitar really grabbed us both. Lovely and light And super resonant. I’m guessing it’s been played a lot. Niiiiiice!
I always hear how Boss is “okay, but cheap shit” I really think they do a great job. Yes, there is a budget side of Boss but they really do an amazingly consistent job. I have never plugged into a Boss pedal and said “this sucks”. They never sound bad and I can find a use for everything they make. My first pedal was a Metal Zone. So much fun and it was so great for a kid in high school to make those crazy distorted sounds. I love Boss!!! Thanks for the video.
Question : could you give us a detail explanation of the ''headroom'' ? On the last Q&A video it was very succint... We need a video with sounds exemples, maybe wave forms on a white board? Thanks guys!
Boss/Roland just make top quality stuff that you cant go wrong with - they used to sponsor one of the two studios at the London Royal Academy of Music (Yamaha the other).
Great video guys - what an amazing opportunity - that chamber seems mad! Was that the new Boss Nextone being played through (hence reason for delay with this being released as only announced this week)? impressions?
Yes it was Nextone. Pretty good! As you may know, transistor amps aren’t really our thing but we were both surprised at the tones and feel coming from them. We have one here so it’ll be cool to hear it in our environment. Cheers!
Congratulations on what looks like an amazing experience. Hopefully this inspires you to collaborate with Robert Keeley again to make a fuzz pedal called “El Grunge-o” and a modulation pedal called “Wobbly Thing”.

Seriously, the DC-2w is UNBELIEVABLE! It also sounds unreal when you run an analogue synth through it... such a great piece of kit!
Glad you love it! I love it. Mick here. :0)
Very fascinating chaps thanks for making this video! I agree, Boss pedals shouldn't be overlooked they can be excellent tools for more than just the effect, the buffers and the way they can be used to shape your tone.
You guys have way too much fun!
JC-120!!!! Sorry, got a bit excited there. I rarely see any love for my favourite amp on these here UA-cams.
Sorry Mr Springsteen, but Yoshi is the real Boss!!!
I hope you’ve given the creator of the BD2 a big hug
Those amps sound great!
Wow what a place really got the feeling it was like a religious experience for you maybe it was the lack of sleep but you both looked quite emotional. do you know if boss do a public tour ?
I used to live in Hamamatsu. Wish I knew about that Boss Museum when I lived there though.
Man that Les Paul Custom! That's my dream guitar!
I'm really enjoying all of your new and different content (not that I don't love the regular stuff too). A note on your note about the audio, since the cameras are on tripods you should be able to turn stabilization off and that would save you from that noise.
And when you finally start releasing videos on wedensday and thursday, the week will finally be complete! ;)
Good things for good people. Looks like an awesome trip guys. When are boss Japan coming to that pedal shed? Well deserved trip away thanks for all the great content.
I've heard that in Japan the condition of the second hand pedals amps etc are really good because the people look after there products and the boxes
Yep, excellent second hand shopping to be had
You should consider doing the guitar knobs podcast, would be good fun.
It’s a great question Tim - where guitar amps join all other modern consumer electronics. Great question!
Niiiiiice!
Love to see you guys experiment with a JC. :)
great to see gibson and fender getting along.
'the week' is now so much better
You guys are just so inspiring ❤️
Wow, thanks!
Nice to see Rebea enjoying a bit of Pantera 'A New Level' there
How cool !!!! Very very interesting
Question : could you give us a detail explanation of the ''headroom'' ? On the last Q&A video it was very succint... We need a video with sounds exemples, maybe wave forms on a white board? Thanks guys!
Lots of people asking about this. We’ll do it.
@@ThatPedalShow that's a very good news!! ;)
I would love to hear you guys opinion on the nextone amps. Get one in and do a video with different pedals and sounds !
We have one. Video in a few weeks. Cheers!
just awesome..!
I’m loving those Jazz Chorus amps.
Rumor has it that Tokyo is THE place to find great vintage gear. Did you buy anything?
Dan bought a couple of older Boss/Roland pedals. I bought an EJ Fuzzface. That was about it. :0)
Cheers!
@@ThatPedalShow Thanks for reply. so do they pronounce it as "Nex-Tone" or "Next-Tone" or "Next-One" the latter tuning into our G.A.S.!
Congratulations on what looks like an amazing experience. Hopefully this inspires you to collaborate with Robert Keeley again to make a fuzz pedal called “El Grunge-o” and a modulation pedal called “Wobbly Thing”.
Cool video, it feels weird to say but those solid state amps sounded pretty good
Us too. And yes, they do!
