The comments you make from about 51:40 got me thinking. So much online content in relation to guitar is essentially 'consumer porn' and I really think that the obsession with obtaining more and more gear that it sometimes propagates can be totally counter productive towards actually making / playing music. I've always like what you do because a great deal of it is educational and framed within the context of how a piece of gear can be used as a tool to get the results you are looking for in a 'real life' situation. I think that the prospect of further exploration of how gear can be used creatively etc is super exciting

Thank you Andrew. It’s always tough because our love of music is symbiotic with the gear fetishism. I love Strats because of SRV. I love Two Rock because of Matt Schofield and John Mayer. And then comes the point where you need to do something with it and that’s the tough part. The feedback has been so positive so far that Dan and I are already discussing how we can do more of this in a way that’s not too indulgent and has value for the TPS audience. Should be fun! Thanks again!

Loved the talk at the end of the video - that you're going to have more context when talking about pedals and guitar tone because you'll be actually making music. This is the kind of perspective we've been learning from guys like Joey Landreth and Josh Smith, who play music live and in the studio all the time. That's where it's at for me; my two hobbies are playing in a weekend band and doing little recording projects. I know I'll never be the very best, but I can still enjoy what I can do at my level. It's not about celebrating mediocrity, either, it's about making music for the joy of it, doing my best, but accepting my current limitations.

I recently bought an OX for headphone practice - massive indulgence as I don’t get to often record, but my giddy goodness what a joy to play with my valve amp and pedals with headphones and have a great sound. Every headphone solution has been bitterly disappointing up to now, but (with young child in house) this has increased my play time 3 fold. Love it!

That rythm guitar playing, Dan!!! Such a groove. That solo playing Mick!! Tone from heaven and hell. . And...that creativity from both of you. Good on you. Fig leafs thrown and no reason for any shame at all. Brave and inspiring. Keep it coming. This made me very happy! Now get David Rhodes on the show!

So pleased about the conclusion you reached. The proliferation of 'gear' videos overwhelms the videos of hearing the gear in a musical context. Many is the time I will see gear demos and search for such and such 'live band' or 'live gig' hoping to hear it in context. The reason we love this gear is because we love music but a lot of MusicTube seems to skip the second bit. Your Graham Coxon interview was so revealing in the way he basically said "I don't really know what any of this does it just sounds good and I enjoy playing it".
So three cheers to more musical gear demos. I look forward to seeing/hearing what develops. As ever, keep up the good work!

This is great guys! It’s good to see stuff like this as a reminder that all the noodling and all the gear matters most when you can put it into context of great songs and music. That and of course practicing actual songs so when you get to piece it all together is makes sense as a whole. Cheers.

Looking forward to your combined creativity. It is about the music. All the pedal/gear geekery on the planet doesn’t really mean much without using it in a musical context! Love it!

Thank you guys. This vid was directly in line with why I purchased the OX... to get great tones for recording without having to muck about with micing and such. I need that time and room for creative flow. Much appreciated. Can't wait to dig in and see what the OX can do.

Mick, that solo is a bloody freight train.
Dan, your singing style is fantastic, and I absolutely love the vocals that follow the beginning of the guitar solo.
    Brilliant stuff, both of you.

I look forward to hearing some pedals and different setups in a band context. I'm sure that it will be illuminating to many about what they prefer, and what works for them in what context. Saying that though, the best thing to see is you guys both having fun, because it inspires many of us to re-focus and just have a bit of fun with our music too!

    This is OUTSTANDING!
I'm using a setup that maybe can be interesting and very related to this episode: my Bogner Helios is going through a Suhr reactive load and this whole system is routed through a loop of my Line6 Helix; from there I go straight to the board using a couple of IR's in parallel and in stereo.
But not only this, via two separated outputs, I'm going also to a stereo VHT power amp and run a stereo real cabinet setup.
That setup is a dream come true for me and it's heavenly whenever I go out and play: super consistent sound in the PA and MY sound on stage, without the hassle of live mic positioning and such.
Hope that would usefull to someone.
AWESOME work again guys, keep it up, you're a joy for all of us guitar addicted!
    Cheers from Milan, Flavio!

What a great song. Touchy, catchy, smart and rocksolid. I had the TV running behind my back and turned around to check for some of my all time faves maybe being resurrected. And then there was Dan ripping it :-) I'd buy the album.

And it's a bonus that this is a super helpful and interesting video. I'm sure I'll come back many times for reference. Do more like this!

All the major facts are being well documented in this awesome video. I own the OX since a couple of months. Although i´m still a fan of the oldschool way, in my opinion the OX is THE tool to make serious guitar recordings without kickin out of your flat by the landlords. What i like most on this video is, that finally you tested the sounds within a playback. To judge a guitarsound by its own is always just a first hint. The real world is different. In the old days i´ve worked in a guitar shop. When i played Mesa Boogie Amps in front of the customer, they were always impressed about the sound. I had the opportunity to check everything in the band context. Result: The sound wasn´t there. If you play an old Marshall, Vox etc. the sound alone might not be the love at the fist sting. But in a band these kind of british more in the face amps cut through better. Of course at the end everything is about taste, musicstyle and so on. So big up guys for this important video. THANKS and greetz.

Exactly how we feel Carsten, that front edge on the note that can seem a bit offensive is exactly what makes it work in the malaise of a band mix :£

Agree. I have a question about the recording session. Have noticed that you guys are recorded with an UAD Apollo and a Macbook, right? Whats the specs of the Macbook and the Apollo (Quad?). Thanks!

The ox box is brilliant - and seeing as I would not be able to contrast my takes with anything like that studio allows you to do, getting to have the constantly great and highly useful sounds from the ox is a life-saver. My ability to produce studio sounds that could rival the ox are virtually nil, but add the live applications to it and there is no doubt that this bit of gear is a winner. Thanks for finally getting this video out! And the plan to contextualize gear-wankery sounds all the better 🤟

    That was a real eyeopener.......!
That`s why my guitarsolos never cuts through in the mix when home recording.
Micks solo did, (to my ears), sound quite bright and harsh, but in the mix.........great!
    Thanks guys!
Always nice to learn something new.
