Life too short for long UA-cam videos? Please see the ‘Interesting bits and go-to sections’ information below.
It is our honour and great pleasure to welcome the venerable Andy Martin to the show! Andy was doing online pedal demos for ProGuitarShop.com way back when this was all metaphorical fields. Some 2,000 videos, in fact! When PGS was acquired by online trading site Reverb.com, Andy found he had a new employer and a bunch of new stuff to do.
We explore that a tiny bit, but of course focus on the more important stuff: what’s on his current pedalboard and what does it sound like? We also talk a little bit about Andy’s technique, his approach to demoing and plenty more besides.
Andy Martin is one of the good guys - a true talent, a gentleman and of course an absolute fount of useful playing and tone knowledge. We are, quite literally, not worthy.
But we did it anyway. Enjoy the video…
Andy also has a new UA-cam channel of his own - please go there!

Thanks everyone at TPS for an AMAZING time!
I love you...there I said it.
I'll add this. You have the best speaking voice in the world of pedal demos also.
I just subscribed to your channel (thought I had done it previously). Regarding your voice, my mind fills with PGS videos every time I fire up Rocksmith 2014.
Best......Episode.......Ever!!!
That was fun, Andy! Thx.
You are costing me a bloody fortune.
Dan and mick, Andys dad here. We installed many Dimarzio super distortion pickups in Andys Redtail guitars over the early years. Most of them shown ohms in the 13.6 range most all were hot And ground . Probably early 70s not the later 4 wire versions. Many say ceramic magnets are harsh, but not the dimarzios ,check out how they build them sometime. They are Andys favorite pickups ,because it enhances his pickless playing style. His Brownie guitar still has a super distortion in The bridge, and a Dimarzio air bucker in the neck,an awesome combo.Great great show guys. And dad rock will always be cool.😁😉
Mr Martin! First, thank you for the info - there is so much contradictory ‘knowledge’ and folklore about pickups, so it’s great to get a reminder of that by challenging a preconception or two. Same goes for the pickups in the ASAT. :0)
Second, thanks for Andy! He has done - and continues to do - the guitar world a great service. All best to you sir!
Edad Martin Hi Mr. Martin, I was wondering if you’re still building Redline guitars? I’ve been a big fan of your son’s for a while now, and the guitars you made for him sound great in his demos. Would love to know, thanks!
:/ nice try Dad, if that’s your real name...
jk. Sweet and sweeter
Jason Ferguson oh ye of little faith. www.redtailguitars.com
Thanks for this snd andy and pgs
When historians look back to mark the peak of Western Civilization, they will feature this video.
I laughed a lot. Thanks for the comment! ;)
It's all downhill after this

Without Andy there is no UA-cam.
Micks face when Andy plays the TPS intro music is absolute gold.
A truly sumptuous moment
Andy: SURPRISE!!!
Dan and Mick: (°o°)
Damn! I missed that, where is it?
that was my face also
@@dieorginalbanane It is right at the beginning when Andy is playing them into the episode
I’m a grown man, I shouldn’t really be this excited. I’m going in fully expecting this to be the best thing UA-cam has ever seen.
Rob Holiday I know exactly what you mean
I haven’t even watched it yet. I immediately scrolled down to see the comments and this one captures exactly what I’m thinking!
Great show. I’ve been watching Andy for years. I always loved the comments that people would say he dropped his pick again. 😆
Better crossover than infinity war for sure!
Andy has by far, the best right hand in the business. Technique to die for!
'Here's my clean tone' ..... and I almost cried with laughter at Mick's response ! A classic episode and an interesting insight into Andy who obviously has no idea just how much of a guitar hero he actually is.
At time does he say that??

Refresh, refresh, refresh......... "Dan here, Mick here, ANDY Here" Yeaaaa!! Been looking forward to this
I just ran across this episode again. I love seeing Andy being a human. Lol I love his all business videos, but it’s nice to seen him in a relaxed environment.
2 years past and I still come back to watch this one. Absolutely one of my favorite episodes. Andy is the coolest.
Andy is THE 21st century guitar hero. Great show.
”Well there’s your look at That Pedal Show. You can find more from Mick and Dan right here on UA-cam.”
🙌
How the F#@& have I managed to avoid this vid FOR FOUR YEARS ???… super cool stuff !!! With all due respect, dudes… Andy’s the best !! Thanx TPS !!!
The three musketeers of guitar pedals!!! Andy is a legend
My favourite "Andy Riff" is when he demo'd the Orange Tiny Terror and played a brilliant micro version of the WIzzard by Black Sabbath. So cool and such a humble genuine guy. I sent him a message once just saying how much I liked his videos and no nonsense playing style and he took the time to respond to me which I've always remembered. Cool guy!
Who doesn’t love Andy? Great show guys!
Just replayed the “here’s my clean tone” section 3 times... TPS and Andy together... it’s like youtube died and went to heaven... cheers Lads
Andy has nailed the Live at Leeds, late 60’s early 70’s Pete Townshend live tone. What an amazing sound.
Man, Andy crushed those Jimmy Page tones, unbelievable... it was all there, heavens... shocked
Pink Floyd, Metallica... he's killing me
Andy nailing the TPS intro is gold
Isn’t it though! That’s a comp of all kinds of weirdness - I know because I made it! Mick here. :0)
…he said, as though TPS (and Guitarist) fans had not recognized his style.
Remember that time Andy demoed the D&M drive and did a great parody picture? Yeaaa that was great
Not to go on, but a couple of things: with Dan and Mick and Andy, just sheer joy of playing guitar and making all these sounds comes through so clearly and it's infectious. Also, Andy just has absurdly great ears and is an incredible player. That's obvious but it bears repeating. His ability to hear the sounds and think of the songs that illustrate what a pedal is doing is unmatched. Getting his thoughts in this long format, which is so different than his usual format, is kind of a revelation. For example, the asymmetrical thing about the vibe sound is the thing I've never been able to put into words about why so many vibe pedals fall short. Thanks Andy! And thanks Dan and Mick! You guys should DEFINITELY do this again.
“There is no good or bad; just what appeals to you.” Wise words, Mick!
Andy definitely one of my favorite guitarists.
This is one of the most Epic moments in the history of Internet
The UA-cam event of the year for sure! I had one of those "grinning like a Cheshire cat" moments when Andy played his Jimmy Page licks with the drive and echo. Just heavenly.
Still an awesome show. "There is everyone else, then theres Andy"😁😁😁😁 very proud
I got to the end and I thought -WHAT- it's over. I could literally watch these three dudes hang out and talk shop for ANY amount of time- 6 hrs- 8hrs- 12 hrs- there's no limit. I would love to see a sequel vid where each of you (three) brings a new pedal (or two etc..) to the table to demo- and you talk about both the pedal but also how to demo the pedal- aka - the context to put it in. This was amazing - thanks guys!
"ANDY HERE!!!" Thanks Gents! Always an absolute pleasure.
Andy's Keeley 30ms demo is the reason i own one. The time he takes to plan, play and edit doesn't go unnoticed. Making his single pedal demos probably the best on UA-cam. Loved the "young lust" demo in this video too. Thanks to TPS for a great episode as usual.
Andy just makes EVERY SINGLE pedal sound AWESOME! Yes WE ALL KNOW WHO HE IS :D and lovely to get him on the show!
Yay!!! Great episode... best part is Mick dancing around and honking like a happy goose.
Geese are bastards; Mick is lovely.
My absolute favorite “That Pedal Show” episode! Andy is brilliant! All three of you gentlemen have been an inspiration for my rebirth as a serious guitarist after four years of silence. Thank you. 🎸🇺🇸🇬🇧
If Andy sees this post, please convince the guys at TC Electronic to put the Alter Ego delays on their Tone Print software so we can edit them! I've asked before and they replied that it was a joint project with Pro Guitar Shop and would consider it. That was a while ago. Regardless, I LOVE my Alter Ego X4! Also, you ROCK! Cheers!
I'm sorry guys but Andy is just an inspirational genius! Andy, thanks for coming over and doing such a great video. There is a lot of good players but you are a great normal guy.!
Andy has the best riffs on youtube... playing songs I would never expect to hear in a youtube gear demo.
I scrolled through nearly 600 comments before I found a negative one. Love this community.
Thank you for being here Ethan, and being part of this awesome family. :0)
Andy changed the game. Period.
This. Is. Mega!!! This is literally the best thing I’ve ever seen on UA-cam
Wow! Thank you kindly!
“I love that Spirit song.” 😂 I died.
Aaaahhhhh Soul To Squeeze - Andy playing the b-sides is awesome
Such a joy to see Andy, thank you guys, God bless you ! 😽❤️
My word Andy is unreal. And I just purchased the Belle Epoche.
Oh my god I love Andy sooooooo much!!! 😍 And on "That Pedal Show"? Well its just perfection 💕
The holy trinity of Pedal Demos in one room. Whatever follows that is bonus. Andy really was the first one for us all when nobody knew how much we needed these videos. He could read the telephone book for me and I would still listen
The three guys most responsible for getting me into guitar peddles all in one place. Total, Awesomeness!
Clearly the coolest effect is to have someone stand there and adjust the tone on your Boss MZ Waza while you play.
You’ll not get much more of a clickbait title than “Andy Martin on TPS”
It’s only clickbait to sensible humans though, so it’s okay. :0)
@@ThatPedalShow thank you for making this happen. Just made a lot of us soooo happy. Much love
"Andy Martin OWNS TPS!!!"
Tom "i dont think it means what you think it means." 🤣🤣
This is my favourite episode EVER! I could watch hours of this. Cheers guys
Don't know how I missed this episode. Andy is a great player and a great guy.
Absolutely love this video. Massive thanks to Dan and Mick for picking Andys brain. Brilliant!
still the best show you guys have done....stands the test of time.....
Spectacular. I've watched Andy for about 10 years now and every piece of gear I got is because Andy reviewed and approved it. He's always been able to play a piece that would show off the gear he demos. This is the first time I've really heard Andy talk so free form in a video, and on TPS no less! UA-cam is a better place for this. Thank you.
Your best show ever. Can you have Andy as a regular guest please. Your chemistry was awesome. I watched the whole show with a big grin.
That G&L tele sounds amazing. It’s odd how they don’t get the same kind of praise as other brands.
ASAT. Not Tele. Cheers!
I always look forward to That Tangent Show.
Mick and Dan twiddled Andy's knobs.
Aaaandyyyyy! Yeeeaahh! If there was'nt a pedal demo by Andy I did'nt bother to watch. Thats how powerful he is. Role model right there.

I see Andy, I click like
Hey guys thanks. Me and my dad watch your videos together. He’s confined to bed. Has recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer. We enjoy every Friday! We look forward to New videos from you guys.
Keep me coming! And thank you!
I’ve subscribed to both TPS and Andy for a little while, but hadn’t seen all the older vids. This just popped up in my feed and I am so happy! It’s ridiculous how much I enjoyed these three together. Yes, the guitar, pedal, and music talk is superb, but just as important is the positivity they put out into the universe.
Hey Guys, Sioux Falls is in South Dakota - just remember that they both start with S.
Moo!
Yes! Always love when Andy's playing Soundgarden!
Andy is the coolest dude isn't he? Really enjoyed this episode, thank you TPS, thank you Andy! God bless youtube.com!
ANDY´S TECHNIQUE is second to none and he is a PEDAL WHISPERER indeed. One of the best 2018 episodes. I would love to see Brett Kingman and Jay Leonard J also showcase their pedalboards and talk gear. All of them are top PEDAL WHISPERERS.
Been having a REAL rough last few months and watching this video with 3 of my "best" e-friends, really made me smile! Thanks to you all for continuing helping guitarists understand guitars, amps, pedals, etc., but also just being straight-up awesome guys. I really appreciate it and I'm sure thousands/millions of others do, too. Hell, my wife knows "Andy at Pro Guitar Shop" and "Dan here, Mick here"! ;-)
Sending you all the best. We know about rough times and they suck. If we’re a small part of making them less rough we’re happy! Cheers!
This is like the BEST EVER pedal nerd out.. what a show.
Brilliant
That TPS intro!! Mick's reaction was priceless. Brilliant!
I love how genuinely fanboy Dan and Mick are to have Andy on the show. You can tell that it's super authentic.
No picks were harmed in the making of this video.
Perfect fit for TPS. Eloquence, humour, deep knowledge and a very individual/unique talent. Am I allowed to dislike him ? Great show.
Of course you are. The internet demands it! Thanks for watching. :0)
"...Love that Spirit song..." Genius.
I have watched many many many TPS videos but I had no idea this existed. I’ve never been so gassed up for a UA-cam video 🤣
I'm speechless, what a wonderful time you got there guys. Excellent Andy's clean sound, BTW. The Andy's band technique is absolutely brilliant and looks like a very nice human been. Defenitly the thing that occurred to him was left the black box at the ProGuitarShop. He is a full time person to hang out and share in more public guitar shows. Great pedal board, great guitars and great people. 🤘🏽😎🤘🏽😉👌🏽👋🏽🙂🇻🇪😁❤️🎸
When I first started getting into pedals I tried watching a TPS episode and got quickly confused/overwhelmed. So I watched about 500 of Andy's Pro Guitar shop videos, and came back to TPS with some context! You guys were both so pivotal in my musical journey. Love you guys
Gotta love it Andy says "I love l playing the b sides for the fans" then plays my favourite chilli's song. Which is the ultimate b side. It wasn't even on the original album and was not realised at all till years later.
Although I did think it was a ce1, but now I have to go work it out!
@@alexlatta7282 soul to squeeze
Late 2000, I googled guitars, pedals, etc. Then, there were Pro Guitar Shop videos with Andy. And, that's why I began to watch UA-cam.
I can’t stop smiling. Andy has been a hero of mine for nigh on 8 years. And then he opens with THE WHO!!! Listening to you I hear the music, gazing at you I feel the heat, following you I get opinions, I get excitement at your feeeeeeeeet....
Yeah!!! Andy is one of the reasons I’ve spent so much money on pedals. God bless!!!
Pete and now Andy. I feel whole now.
Dan and Mick thanks for pulling Andy out of the black screen ,over the pond and into the TPS studio this will be an epicly watched vid for years and years. With out Andy PGS would have been a different entity all together. Andys quest for tone changed you tube and made choosing gear more informed and down right fun for us all. Long live dad rock👏👏👏 Andy is the internet, Pgs,Reverb, Andydemos.
Wow, how did I miss this episode???? When I got in to buying individual pedals I watched every video from PGS and Andy was my favorite on youtube.
Waited so long to see you guys collaborating! This is truly superb, iconic, historic!
„Sympathy for the pedal!“ I see another shirt coming.
"Here's my clean tone"! Nearly wet myself laughing! Great vid.
This was great, Andy's playing is so entertaining
Goodness, the look on Dan’s face watching Andy riff out: “well, I thought I had my life sorted, but now I have to re-think e v e r y t h i n g.”
That ASAT Special is gorgeous.
Wow, I never actually realised that tape delays have a diminishing bass response in the repeats.
What is this, a crossover episode?!?!
This man Bojacks.
one of the best shows ever on TPS
Andy is a legend!
Anytime I read a guitar related product description or review, I hear Andy's voice in my head.
Probably the best video I’ve seen yet on that pedal show.
"Sympathy for the pedal" t shirts ?
👍🏻🤘🏻
Yes Please!!!!?
I'll take one in 4XLT.. maybe 2 depending on the colors available lol
I'd buy that in a heart beat!
Damn, just made the same comment. Guess I should delete it. And there I was thinking I was so clever and original.
What a show You Three havin a great time, Andy playin the new ASAT and an impromptu demo of the new improved Waza metal zone. The only word is epic.
Andy is (by miles) my go-to for a pedal review (although best thought of best for what a pedal does/features, because no reviewer enumerates a pedal’s strengths and weaknesses). Tx for all the great information Andy!
My day is filled with sunshine and unicorns now that I watched Andy on TPS.
