or in PaRappa 2's Stage 4; it's a *very* small difference, but if you watch gameplay of the NTSC-J/PAL version and the NTSC-U version, you'll start to notice that one of the Double-Dutch machines is wearing a full swimsuit in the NTSC-U version, as opposed to a bikini in the NTSC-J and PAL versions; again, a very small difference, barely noticeable, but my stupid Autistic eyeballs can see it, and yours should, too

In the EU and JP version, all 3 girls arrive late in their default outfits. In the US version, even Ma-san and Katy arrive in strange costumes. I like this change a lot because it implies that both of them had a bizarre journey just like Lammy.

Did anyone else notice that in the original and EU versions, Lammy's animation looks different in the Hell stage? Almost, distorted? Watch closely, the animation is not the same. It's a minor detail that kinda creeped me out.

The change from Hell to a desert island is really jarring, but I honestly prefer the English version actually. A character like Lammy dying and going to Hell feels uncharacteristically dark for Parappa the Rapper, the rewind to the island feels more in line with the series' absurdity

Right. I played the JP version and was utterly gobsmacked when Lammy outright DIED. I thought I'd made some dramatic error on previous stages and was still "what the heck!?" right through the stage.
Dracomut It kinda keeps with the rock theme, but anyway, what's really weird is that the stage is mostly unchanged aside from that. If you didn't see the island, you'd probably assume they were in hell.

The first time I saw footage of Um Jammer Lammy and also looked it up online, I heard about a character called Rammy, who is basically an edgy clone of Lammy originating from hell. I think she first appears in the Stage 6 cutscene right before Lammy goes back to Parappa Town and accuses Lammy of replacing her. If I remember correctly, Rammy is also a playable character after beating both Lammy's and Parappa's stories. However, no one ever seems to bring her up. Is she real or just a popular myth?
She's real. When you beat the last level, Lammy says 'who's my next challenger!?' and Rammy and Parappa appear on screen.
After that, two new game modes are available: A new single player mode where you play through all the same levels again as Parappa, but with the songs replaced with rap versions, and a two-player mode, where you can play as Lammy vs. Parappa or Lammy vs. Rammy.
Rammy's just there so there aren't two Lammy characters on screen at once for the multiplayer, basically.
@@Phizzy This is a bit of an old response, but when Rammy loses the duel mode she says "Guess I'll just go back to hell now..." in standard, and "Guess I'll just go home now" in the ESRB version.

Jayden Hacking But when that E rating restricts the game from actually having the original ideas from the creator, it kinda just proves how stupid E ratings are. Mainly because of how finicky the ESRB can get with its reasoning AND the entire group being comprised solely of old white dudes that bring ethnocentricity into the table. So it doesn't matter what reason the ESRB changed a line for, it's still annoying.
I would also note that considering our entire culture is getting more and more desensitized to things, people saying they don't think this is offensive is understandable for this day in age. We can debate if that's morally right or not. But even if you think that desensitization is not an excuse for a game to not be put under the ESRBs standards,the fact that certain things in this game are changed because of the slightest word is beyond benign.
Let's also take this game into context with other games by comparing them. For example the game VVVVVV had no changes to its story, gameplay, or music but got an E rating even though the game itself has multiple moments in it that a kid wouldn't understand and has things that be redeemed "offensive" in terms of logic when it comes to PtR2. If you look up more about ESRB ratings you will find articles that talk about some of the illogical reasons they have given for T ratings, even if that doesn't relate to E ratings, it still should be considered for the credibility of the organization.
But the main purpose of the ESRB was to censor games that had too much material that was too violent, the game that started the foundation of the ESRB would be namely Mortal Kombat. But how that relates to using the word "wine" in a game where a dog is rapping lyrics by pressing buttons while avoiding to eat noodles is beyond my fucking mind. And that's the problem with the ESRB, their priorities for certain games are completely different every time and their reasoning for ratings has given them a bad reputation in this industry.
Sorry for digressing, but I'm very passionate about the subject of censorship. Totally understand why you would make that comment, just to explain the context of why it was changed by the artists, but I still find it annoying.

In Stage 7's VS Mode, Rammy's losing line is changed from "OK, you win. I'll just go back to hell now." to "OK, you win. I'll just go home now."

I’m surprised that the word “angel” hasn’t been changed in the North America version if you’re playing as Lammy. Probably because it not as offensive as PaRappa’s version
in context yoko seems to be referring to just plain death "before the angel comes to take me round and round" which usually symbolises getting ready to die because an angel is taking you to heaven. while parappas version just straight up says the angel is bad

2 things about stage 6. 1: If I remember correctly, it's actually legit for someone in real life to hit their head so hard they end up dying. 2: I don't remember hell looking like a fever dream, more like a lava wasteland/dark fiery place. This just shows that Um Jammer Lammy is the weirdest game in the trilogy, no wonder why there was no Um Jammer Lammy 3! Although that 4th wall break in the JPN and PAL version is pretty clever, having a fake credits screen. Also, if stage 6 takes place in hell, where's Satan? That's what hell is known for!
In all versions of Parrapa 2 there is a record shop. If you beat Food Court on cool and get its record it has "Warm the buns" in it. Yes, this goes for the NTSC version

I remember a censorship of word “Frosty” in intro cutscene in US version of PSP and PS4 PTR (due Wendy’s lawsuit), but in UJM ports for PS3 and PSP word “Frosty” isn’t censored in “On Monday” cutscene.

Thanks for the video. I just finished the Japanese version of Um Jammer Lammy. Didn't know some of the other changes in that game other than the Hell stage. Although, I would like to point out that you forgot the dialog bit before playing on Stage 6 right after Jack Smash says "C'mon, it's time to do it!"
Japanese/European:
Teriyaki Yoko: "I'm gonna kill you!"
Lammy: "Eh, I think I'm dead already."
TY: "Then I'll put you back to life."
North American:
L: "Um, no no no, You see, I was on my way to my own show, but I ended up here."
TY: How did that happen!? Anyways, I'll help you get to where you're going."

The thing about double-entendres is that we imbue these phrases with extra meaning, often based on what other people have said. if any kid or anyone sees it in a game like Parappa, it's not really the games fault, because the game is communicating a literal meaning. "Warm the (actual) buns."
Very small issue, but you technically missed a line. When talking about “Power On, Power Off” you forgot to mention the chorus of Lammy’s version. The European version plays as “Chop all of ‘em down, every single one down”
Where as the US version replaced it with basically nonsensical lyrics: “come on and get down, way single one down”.
Actually, the lyrics were something like "Come on, get down, way down to the low ground". "Come on, get down, way single one down" was only in the subtitles.

In the "Lord" censor, the bar's layering got messed up in the American version and in the album (Record shop) the American version of PTR 2 stage 1 still has warm the buns but the a "I am the Lord" phrase wasn’t added

Spinoff means it's not a direct sequel. It's not a Parappa game where you rap, but it's set in the same world, made by the same people, with similar gameplay.
