  • We all purchase files from time to time. If you want to modify the file you purchased to make it your own it can be tricky depending how it was drawn. In this video, I will show you some basic things to check before you get to modifying your purchased file. Some file creators are better than others and learning how to fix files that aren’t that well constructed can be a complete game changer. You will learn how to identify open shapes(one of the biggest reasons you can’t do what you want). How to make them a closed shape, how to use the weld tool. Basic node editing will be used.
    You can use the offset tool to fix this as well but it doesn’t always work!

    Thank you for this video. I have been facing some challenges in editing purchased svg files. It is proof enough that sellers are also not being honesty

    Thank you, thank you, thank you! I’ve been struggling with this for a couple days and the problem was the nodes not being connected. Can’t say thank you enough. I really appreciate the learning tips people like you are willing to put out there. Best of luck to you!

    Love your work, you help me immensely with every video I watch. And on a side note, very much remind me of my boss as a toolmaker apprentice.

    This explanation was perfect, I was putting off trying to fix these in a couple of svg files I’ve downloaded recently, they wouldn’t fill and kept giving me the error about open shapes. I now can fix them thank you a ton . 👍👍👍

    Very good video as usual, I can't tell you how many time I struggled with weld options before I figured it out. Of course I don't generally search for the problem like you showed, lol. Thank you for your videos. Stay safe.

    Just what I'm looking for?
    I downloaded a few files that drive my Z axis to max height and then does nothing?
    How do I stop that. I didn't know a file could drive my z axis other than me doing auto focus?
    I can not see anything in the drawing files causing this

      if your using LightBurn go to the wrench icon and on the top right hand side be sure your enable z axis is off. that way it can move unless you move the z from the control panel. much safer. Thanks for the comments!

    I didn't actually see you connect the node ends on video; do you just grab one end drag to the other?

    When I download a template with multiple images. How do I separate the one I want, like borders? I've tried tools, box, trace etc. 🤔

      @@computercreationz when I download something from Google or Etsy sometimes has multiple images like a bunch of scenes like sayings, or trees.

    When I import an svg and go to node editing it does not show ANY nodes. How do I fix that?

    • @computercreationz
      @computercreationz  Рік тому

      You have to convert a shape to a path first then you will see nodes. Edit> covert to path

    How do you join the nodes without changing shape?

    • @computercreationz
      @computercreationz  2 роки тому

      just make sure one node is on an adjoining node (connected) if that changes the shape you may have to insert other nodes convert them to smooth nodes and play with the curve handles to replicate the shape your after. hope this helps. thanks for watching and the comment!

    I purchased a SVG leather wallet pattern on ETSY, i downloaded it and tried to open it in Lightburn, but nothing happened. The file shows up in my Lightburn files, but when I select it it does not come up in the work space. I contacted the seller about it and he double checked it in his Lightburn and it opened fine. Most of the files I use on my laser are PDF, because of this issue. Do you have any ideas or suggestions? Thanks

      make sure when your bring in the purchased graphic that you import and not open the file. then check to make sure your layer that was created is on and output is on.
