The only macro that really changed my quality of life as a healer allows me to cast Swiftcast/Resurrection and automatically target the downed player, all within a second. With the way it is set, it will prioritize tanks, then healers, and lastly dps, but you can still manually select someone before casting and it will rez them instead if needed. It goes like this:
    /micon "Resurrection"
    /macroerror off
    /ac "Swiftcast"
    /ac "Resurrection"
    /ac "Resurrection"
    /ac "Resurrection"

    /ac "Resurrection"
    /ac "Resurrection"
    /ac "Resurrection"
    /ac "Resurrection"
    /ac "Resurrection"
And if you use raise or any other rez spell, replace Resurrection in every spot with your spell name. Hope this helps someone. The convenience has been a game changer for me honestly.

    • @ReaperZeph
      @ReaperZeph 3 роки тому +27

@@kokumosu Yes, and because there is no wait order, it goes rather quickly too. The best part is while the macro is working, you can be moving around and doing whatever you need without the added worry.
My settings put the tanks at the top, healers after them, and dps at the bottom. So if a tank dies, I press one button and they get a rez notification ^_^
Also, that is why the macroerror off is so important. It would prompt an error code in chat for every player it goes past alive, so the macroerror command prevents that flood.

One thing I sometimes use when I play healer are for my damaging skills, which literally just means "Target of my target" What it does is it uses the skill on the target your target is targeting. So, for example, if I'm playing WHM, I'm constantly targetting the tank so I can heal them, but I get a break in healing where I can attack. Normally, you'd have to target off the tank and onto the boss, which can be a bit tricky on controller (which I play with on PS4) but with this macro, I don't have to target off the tank, because I'll have something like /ac "Stone" which will cast whichever Stone spell is available at the current level onto the target of my target. Since my target is the tank, the target of that target is whatever the tank is targeting, which should be the boss. Therefore, I can keep targeting my tank for heals, but also damage the boss without looking away. How I usually have it set up is as follows:
    /micon "Name of Spell used"
    /ac "Name of Spell used"
    /ac "Name of Spell used"
This way, I know what spell I'm using, and if I'm targeting the tank, it'll attack the tank's target. If I'm targeting an enemy, it'll attack the enemy.

@@AzureKyle While it's a great idea in for casual play, you're still "loosing" casts due to FF somewhat mitigating your ping while playing with a skillqueue system (when you use a skill ~0.2-0.3s before it's actually "usable" it gets used the next possible moment), whereas macros don't place the skills in it and are only executing it if it's actually ready the frame it checks that line of the macro, so you're loosing fractions of seconds after each attack (which in itself isn't much, but will add up with continued use, I think it's around a ~5% loss or something). Granted, it's not much, but still something you want to keep in mind if you plan on transitioning into the higher difficulties where every single cast might matter
In the video is actually a short clip (5:02-5:10, which is too short to really show the difference clearly) comparing a non-macroe'd GCD to a GCD in a macro over the span of a minute or so, with the difference being ~22 executions for the macro and ~24 executions for the non macro if I remember that gif correctly (with GCD referring to your global cooldown, or weaponskills and spells as they are called by the tooltips, for abilities it's not as bad due to them having longer cooldowns and usually having more lenient usage windows, so it's fine to macro those for targeting purposes)
I don't intend to completely discourage usage of those macros at all though, as long as you know the downsides of it (as I would still prefer a healer using glare or whatever over a macro while keeping the tank targeted to keep his HP more in mind than a healer not being able to keep the tank alive due to DPS spam or not even attacking at all. This game is a learning curve, so use what you can in order to improve bit by bit, and deciding you want the option to "safely" attack while no heals are required is already a step up on the improvement-ladder)
I would probably suggest trying the D-pad "mouseover" way of healing on controller, where you can select a party member with D-pad up/down from the party list as target for your next spell, without actually having to change your target and still keeping the boss in target (to see any castbars the boss might be casting) or doing the same with D-pad left/right on enemies instead of party members (to still keep your tank in target). Or try some target-switching macros with targetlasttarget and stuff.
On KB/M it's abit easier due to having a faster mouse pointer for clicking on targets, but I still to this day can't properly play healer (effectively enough to my own satisfaction) due to my brain being hardwired to mouseover targeting, which only works with macros in this game >.>

I’m not sure if it’ll work for you, but I also use controller and I have my L3 set to ‘set focus target’ and R3 to ‘target focus target’. That way you can set the boss as the focus target and easily switch between them and the party members. If you play dark knight or gunbreaker, a macro that warns your healers that you've cast living dead for dark knight or superbollide will be a positive quality of life change. If the healer doesn't notice you've cast living dead, you're probably going to die, so the extra warning is good. The warning with superbollide is good because it helps your healer not die from a heart attack.

Regarding the Dragon Sight Macro: Since I use Focus Target quite often Focus Targeting a party member was really something I wanted to use so I looked a bit on the Internet for alternatives but found nothing either. But after looking at the list of commands I made a quite useful one:
    /micon "Dragon Sight"
    /merror off
    /targetpc
    /ac "Dragon Sight"
    /ac "Dragon Sight"
    /ac "Dragon Sight"
    /ac "Dragon Sight"
    /targetlastenemy
This Macro targets the nearest player and tries to apply Dragon Sight to them and then immediately switches back to your last target. Aka the Boss.
Even if the Actions Fails (since Macros are still Macros) you will still target the boss quickly enough for the second weave/GDC.

When doing savage/extreme content, I usually use the 'target a specific party slot' macro (it's where x is the number of the party member); since most content has designated spots, you can select a DPS member that's going to stay close the entire uptime and not accidentally hit a healer or tank. (While they'd appreciate the DPS boost, but you'll lose overall effectiveness.) And you'll also avoid hitting the Red Mage who flipped in next to you for the 3 seconds of melee phase before they yeet themselves back out again, meaning you both lose the eye buff as soon as they're gone.

@@TheWickedWizardOfOz1 I've figured it out since, but may as well post this advice here just in case:
Firstly, if using a res macro, try not to make the message too long. It bothers some people and can clog up chat, especially in higher end content, where it's even more important for the party to not get bogged down by extraneous messages. I suggest something very simple and short, like "Arise, Phoenix!"
      One example macro:
      /p Arise,
      /ac Raise
      /micon Raise
This will tell your party that you are rezzing your target .
Secondly, make sure you set it to message first, so that any auto-targeting or target changing doesn't cause you to accidentally yell out, for example, that you are rezzing the boss instead.
Finally, never macro multiple skills together, such as swiftcast, because macros do not queue like normal. You will end up wasting a lot of inputs/actions, and confuse your party.

I also have mouseover macros for when someone needs a single quick heal, or for Rescue. I know they are a "loss", but usually it is quicker for me to notice and click than to notice target and click.

In endgame content it can be the difference between getting a clear or not cuz it significantly affects your damage output over longer fights (it's been tested in ACT) and healer dps is necessary.
It also isn't as fast as just the single button press it takes to swap targets, do a spell, and swap back because of the lag in casting that macros cause.
I used macros as training wheels when I was first learning healing with astro and back when I was passed needing them but still used them the clunkiness of it was apparent.

One last thing not covered in the video (or if it was, I missed it.) Macros cannot be queued. I don't mean subsequent skills in a chain. I mean macros themselves cannot be queued in the same way GCD skills can be.
To see this for yourself: Start by using any GCD skill, like Fast Blade, Cure, or anything else that puts most of your other skills on a short cooldown. While your entire hotbar is cooling down, you can hit the second skill a fraction of a second before the cooldown is done, queuing it to be activated immediately. This means that, for example, a white mage would never want to set up a macro to specifically target the tank with a lily skill, since Afflatus is a GCD and would thus need to be manually hit with frame-perfect execution to not lose uptime that can result in several more spells over the course of a fight. So don't, for example, use a macro announcing a GCD buff unless it's worth potentially delaying your rotation over.
OGCDs should mostly be fine since the weave window is much more lenient, but I could see hypothetical issues with tight doubleweaving.

    • @Poldovico
      @Poldovico 3 роки тому

It's worse than that. To not lose uptime to macros, you'd need frame perfect timing AND 0 ping. Queuing lets the server know what you're casting next ahead of time and removes any latency under the length of the queue window from the equation.

It's still nice I can just mouseover the party list to heal anyone during casual dungeons though.

Actually I don't think its often spoken about, but there is another way to use macros for actions and making fights more comfortable, chaining combos!
There is a basic rule for macros, it'll run down through your macro and do the first possible command and then continue as long as it is 'valid'.
This most easily applicable to the 'Gnashing Fang' Gunbreaker combo.
    /macroicon 'Gnashing Fang'
    /ac 'Wicked Talon'
    /ac 'Savage Claw'
    /ac 'Gnashing Fang'
In this case, on this single key, while using it when the combo start, it'll check through the valid skills and use Gnashing fang, when your gcd is back up, using the macro will use Savage claw, and then the next GCD will be wicked talon.
adding a /ac continuation at the top of this macro makes it so that while you press this macro off GCD you'll proc the instant 'Continuation' skill if its available.
You can also add other off GCD skills to fill in the combo. its my big DPS combo so my macro start with 'no mercy' using it when its available, and its reduces the amounts of keys I have to worry about pressing.
This way of making a macro is FAR more effective because its essentially stacking several skills ontop of each other and uses whichever is available went you press the key, not sticking to a strict 'wait' between each step of a combo.

    • @connorlove9

Mr. Happy (mentioned in this video) talks about why you shouldn't do this if you're trying to do hard content with other people. Because of skill queuing, you slowly lose more and more damage over the fight. It's better than the wait-based macro though. I recommend watching his video about macros, he talks about exactly this situation with Gunbreaker combos /watch?v=qshNKeDENlk .

You can remove button bloat by simply putting things with the same cooldown on the same button that you would use together anyway.

  • @sunn7615
    @sunn7615 3 роки тому

Regarding the placing certain skills macros: use multiple repeated lines. Macros run at one line per game frame (if there's no wait command) and having 12+ lines can sometimes enable you to overcome animation locks in the case you press the macro too early or you have a high ping (animation locks are ping dependent, higher ping means longer animation lock).
Also be aware macros targeting skills like salted earth fail on a wall boss almost all the time so have the skill itself on an easily accessible place on your hotbar for wall-boss encounters like leviathan.

    • @sunn7615
      @sunn7615 3 роки тому

oh and the one line per game frame is your personal framerate, not some internal server rate. so the faster your framerate the sooner the macro is done which can be a problem because animation locks are always 0.5 seconds plus your ping to the server. having higher frame rates means macros fail more often.

    • @sunn7615
      @sunn7615 3 роки тому

And one more comment to make regarding ressurection/invuln macros: be aware of animation locks. the game's internal skill queuing naturally overcomes animation locks but macros have no skill queues so macroing your invulns/rezzes does give them a strong chance to fail.
For invulns I have a text chat macro and the button itself right next to each other. I press the invuln then the macro to let my party know I'm going invuln. Same for rez macros. I have swiftcast > rez > macro on 3 separate buttons now *because* of how animation locks will fail a macro ezpz.

I'm sure if you're more efficient at controller targeting than me, then this macro wouldn't be ideal, but using macros on my WHM actually make me pick up healer again and took away my healer anxiety. I also use macros so that I automatically use lilies/ tetra before a Cure II if they're available, just because personally I sometimes forget about them. This way, I don't have to think about it. Also, personally I feel that a macro for asylum targeting is miles better than free placing with a controller. Again, I know using macros as any combat job is not the ideal or meta solution, but all I can say is that it made healing fun for me again. Will I one day try without macros? Perhaps. But I'm a casual player. I don't do savage raids or anything like that. And this is what's fun for me and what seems to work for me.

I use macros on all my combat classes, and I do end game raiding. They are massively helpful so this idea that they are really only useful for crafting is kind of wrong. The only thing you shouldn't macro are your combos. OGCDs are easily macro and it's better to use a resource at a bad time then to forget during mechanics and not use it at all.
Resource management : you can have one button that picks from a priority of instant heals on your healer. BRD has a lot of procs that can be prioritized in one button.
The biggest issues people have is they spam macro buttons with 1 second cool downs in them with out giving them time to go off.
You can solve this with /mock, but that takes another kind of discipline and can lead to issues.
One of the biggest helps for me on healers for instance is (target of target)
    /ac "stone"

About combat macros: I use a set of "smart combo" macros, not macros that autofire a combo sequence, but a macro that enables me to press the same button in sequence to perform a three-part combo by swapping hotbars, sort of like the one-button combo macros from PVP or from Roleplay quests when you play as Scions. I play Samurai, so I'm trying to reduce the number of keys I have to use to streamline my gameplay and focus on stuff like movement and raid mechanics. I understand that the inputs for macros do not have the same buffer as regular skills and that doing weaponskills manually shaves off milliseconds between inputs, but is it worth sacrificing the convenience and ease of focusing on mechanics worth an extra few milliseconds of input time?

    • @abadidea5984
      @abadidea5984 3 роки тому +2

@@TheAzureFlame The trick is to use the macro command "/hotbar copy" to replace the entire hotbar that has your combo on it. In effect, I'm cycling between three identical hotbars where only the 1 key changes. The secret is to hijack hotbars from basic classes that you no longer use, like Archer or Lancer as opposed to Bard or Dragoon. To set this up, you have to copy your current class's hotbar onto three of the basic class's hotbars. Here's an example of me using my Rogue hotbars to set up a Ninja macro for Spinning Edge/Gust Slash/Aeolian Edge:
First, set up a macro for each part of the combo. In this case, a separate macro with the commands "/ac Spinning Edge", "/ac Gust Slash", and "/ac Aeolian Edge". We will be using these in place of the real weaponskills, and we'll be revisiting these macros to make sure they work.
Step 1: As a Ninja, set my first hotbar to have Spinning Edge on the 1 key; the rest of the keys can be whatever you want.
Step 2: Use the command "/hotbar copy nin1 rog1". This will copy the current hotbar with Spinning Edge onto my Rogue's hotbar 1.
Step 3: Change out Spinning Edge for Gust Slash, then use the command "/hotbar copy nin1 rog2". This copies the current hotbar with Gust Slash onto my Rogue's hotbar 2.
Step 4: Change out Gust Slash for Aeolian Edge, use the command "/hotbar copy nin1 rog3", and the same thing will happen.
Now that your Rogue hotbars are set up, it's time to make the macros work. We're gonna revisit the Weaponskill macros you made and add the hotbar changing step. For instance, the Spinning Edge macro should look like this:
      /micon Spinning Edge
      /ac Spinning Edge
      /hotbar copy rog2 nin1
This will cast Spinning Edge, then immediately copy Rogue Hotbar 2, which has the Gust Slash macro, onto your current Ninja hotbar 1. The Gust Slash macro should then look like this...
      /micon Gust Slash
      /ac Gust Slash
      /hotbar copy rog3 nin1
...which casts Gust Slash, then copies Rogue Hotbar 3, which has the Aeolian Edge macro, onto your current hotbar 1. To finish the loop, the Aeolian Edge macro should look like this...
      /micon Aeolian Edge
      /ac Aeolian Edge
      /hotbar copy rog1 nin1
...which casts Aeolian Edge, then copies Rogue Hotbar 1, which has the Spinning Edge macro, back onto hotbar 1, completing the combo and setting you back to the beginning. In effect, it should appear as though only the 1 key is changing.
However, if you have a branching combo (let's say you want to use the Armor Crush finisher instead of Aeolian Edge), you simply need to create a different macro for the alternate weaponskill, then put that macro on the same hotbar that finisher would have appeared on in the first place. For instance, let's say I made a macro for Armor Crush that copy-pastes back to Rogue hotbar 1. I would then make sure the Armor Crush macro was on Rogue Hotbar 3, where the Aeolian Edge macro is. That way when I perform Gust Slash, the hotbar changes to a hotbar that has both Aeolian Edge and Armor Crush on it, and no matter which one I pick, it changes the hotbar back into Spinning Edge. My Samurai combo macros are a LOT more complex than this, but it essentially allows me to do any Samurai combo I need with only 3 or so keys.
Personally, I add a after the weaponskill before the hotbar change in case I misclick and the enemy is too far or something. This adds a 1 second delay before the hotbars change; too short to account for GCD, so don't worry about it being too slow. If I happen to misclick my combo button, I basically have 1 second to click it again, and if I miss again the 1 second delay resets so I can just keep trying to click it until I land it, then let the hotbar change.

It actually is worth it. Most fights where DPS matters last roughly 10 minutes. Each skill has a GCD of ~2.4 seconds, so let's call it 2.3 seconds with precast, and 2.5 if you clip it by using a macro.
That's ~26 abilities per minute without the macro, and 24 with. 2 Abilities a minute mean 20 dropped over a fight. The GCD combo for samurai is 9 buttons long, so you're losing 2 entire Iais. And that's if I'm being generous; the precast window is larger than a single 10th of a second by a wide margin, and each tenth of a second adds another entire combo dropped.
How much damage is dropped when you drop 2 combos? 4? And that's for fights that only last 10 minutes; pushing current content will have longer fights, with even more combos dropped.

DO NOT DO THIS. Do not, for the love of gods.
If you are tanking normal content, spacing out your damage mitigation on big pulls is pretty vital; if you blow all your mit on one pull, your healer is going to have a bad time on later pulls. And in Savage/Extreme content, you need to be able to pop mit for tank mechanics (busters, damage soaks, raid wide damage reduction, and swaps), so if you pop them all at once, you will die.
Not to mention the fact that if you do macro it correctly, you're locking yourself out of other actions for the entire time it takes for each buff to be cast.
This is setting yourself up to fail on a very basic level.
If you use mouse/keyboard I'd suggest putting them on a second bar and get in the habit of just clicking them manually.

I use the target of target macro. One line is target the other is . I keep the for damage spells in dungeons so I can damage without unclicking tank. But I wouldn't recommend using the healing in dungeons because of loss of ability queue.

If you're going to use them, please only do it in casual content. It slows down your combat abilities which means you do less damage and that can be deadly in EXs and Savage. In dungeons and such it's okay (most people would prefer people didn't do it cuz it makes the dungeon take longer) as it won't get the party killed due to the damage loss.
It's also good for learning/inexperienced players. But generally I recommend using stuff like that only as training wheels. Plus in later content it's actually better to try and avoid gcd healing all together (regen is an exception - this goes for aspected benefic as well). In ShB's dungeons you rarely need to gcd heal (and that's usually if the tank is bad or people make a lot of mistakes and all your ogcd abilities are on cooldown)
