Its awesome to see a younger person not turn her nose up at King Diamond. Ive been listening to him since 1989 and was AMAZED when I heard him live in Boston, Mass. He is one of a kind!
King diamond 💎 is such a rare talent, in so many ways! The range, theatrics, storytelling, just a one of a kind talent! King diamond, really is a ( metal opera)! It's so amazing how all these gifted opera singers are discovering what we metal heads have known for 30 or 40 years, now! I like how you really seem to get into the music! Please keep the rock, and metal reactions, coming. I just saw the skid row/ wasted time reaction. You may want to react to a great symphonic metal band called savatage, the song and video ( gutter ballet), would be a great start!!!!!!
Watched the live-DVD last night, fantastic performance of the whole band and of course King especially. I’ve always been amazed by his vocal technique and how he manage to use his voice the way he does live night after night. Unique! Great reacts btw.
@@AaliyahCapili King Diamond’s first five albums from Fatal Portrait to The Eye are all of them masterpiceses musically and storywise. Epic and ahead of it’s time I would say. 💞
Great reaction! I love King, and I love how your comments are intelligent, to the point, and infrequent enough not to 'intrude' upon the song. Well done!
Pretty much every King Diamond album is a concept album, he writes great horror stories. You should hear his other band Mercyful Fate too, the first two albums and EP are legendary classics. Similar musical style but the lyrics are focused on the Occult/Black Magic.
Being an opera singer you should be able to appreciate King Diamond, not only for his voice.. but his talent at storytelling through his songs. All but 2 of his studio albums are full concept albums that each tell it's own horror story (2 of his stories had sequels.. and 2 of his albums, only half the album was a single story). You should give one of his albums (I highly suggest Abigail) a listen... Maybe do a reaction to it for Halloween.
Such a dynamic performer, and w band, performance! I first seen King Diamond in 1986! I really thought he was goin' to be cheesy cornball tongue-in-cheek look-at-me-I'm-evil, but he killed it! His band at the time delivered the type of metal I love! Very atmospheric, intense, top notch, nonstop top tier showmanship! Happy to see you digging this👍🏼. He also did an instore meet n greet at a local record store. He wasn't wearing makeup, surprising, only dark glasses, and regular street clothes! 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼
Most of the song is sung from the character King's point of view, but at 6:48 that lower-register-juxtaposition is the _spirits/demons_ offering a deal to King, then King singing about how he went ahead and accepted the deal with the spirits/demons. Spirits/Demons: Then, let us make you an eternal deal. You will attend to the graves. You'll give us the house back, and keep in mind... That we'll only come here at night. King: So we made the deal under the starry night and Amon belongs to them now. I feel the dawn coming my way. (FYI, Amon is the name of the house.) P.S. The story of King's sister Missy and and his mother and grandmother is told in the album Them. Definitely worth listening to. Tea, Welcome Home, Invisible Guests, and Them are my favorite songs on that album.
King Diamond puts his mind-blowing range to work as a storyteller in his concept albums. It allows him to tell a narrative from the perspective of several characters and instill each with a unique persona. I've seen him four times, two of those with Mercyful Fate and the crowd's energy at those shows is electrifying. You'd never expect to meet some of the nicest, down-to-Earth people at a death metal concert, but you'd be wrong. As an old man, it is gratifying to see very young people enjoying his music. My kids considered it torture when I would listen to King Diamond or Anthrax when I picked them up from school. Good job with the reaction & not stopping the music every three seconds.
You should do the song Melissa - from the album 'Melissa' by Mercyful Fate, King Diamond's original band and recorded in 1983 when his voice was way better. You have to realize he is 67 & has had open heart surgery & apparently, they had to fully open up his ribcage from what I have read. The man is a freaking legend. Love the songs "Curse of the Pharaohs" & "Into the Coven".
Glad to see you react to the king 🤘. He’s amazing and well into his 60s. I just seen him in concert recently and he was on point. He does have a back up singer to help on the more complicated vocals/ harmonies but for the most part he still does it all👊great reaction 🫶
We are all learning here so dont worry. Except king diamond. After his heart operation his voice got better. Like it or not he is unique, something different. And some songs are very very creepy
About 20 years ago I interviewed him. I asked about his range. He said that he has no idea, he doesn't know any music theory, he doesn't know how to read music. He just writes songs by ear and then his band metes are scratching their heads trying to put names on things. Fun story: before his concert in Bucharest (also about 20 years ago) he came down from his hotel room fully costumed and with his face painted. The elevator arrived at the ground floor of the hotel, the door opened and there was a group of elderly women. The look on their faces when they saw him... priceless...
When I heard my first King Diamond song, I didn’t know a whole lot about him. About all I grasped was that he was adept at high notes. The song was “Halloween” because it was that holiday season, and I was searching for fitting tunes. So I found that track, and needless to say I was impressed by how high he could go, and so powerfully. Though prior to this reaction, I didn’t know he is an actual countertenor, which I’ve read is the most rare voice type. Regardless, what a standout voice in metal. And side note, I’ve always been surprised that high voices go over well in such a masculine genre, but thankfully they do just fine.
King Diamond is the best, his voice is stronger then even since he cleaned up his lifestyle and stopped smoking. So it goes without saying not to wreck your voice by smoking lmao.
When i first heard King's vocals in the mid 90s with Mercyful Fate, i thought it was pretty grating on the ears, but 25 years on, and with so many different bands out there now, with differing vocal styles, his voice his quite tolerable. Plus the fact, he does sing in that mid range on a lot of songs as well. It just so happens that in Sleepless Nights, he doesn't that much. Honestly, i wished he would sing in his midranged voice more often and only use that countertenor voice in certain, but brief parts just to hit those high notes, ya know? I've been a Metalhead since 1986/87. And I've heard a lot of different vocal styles over the years. And honestly, I've found that certain vocal styles tend to fit certain types of instrumentation. Like with Death Metal riffing, only a deep growl works with that stuff. A higher pitched melodic vocal wouldn't work. With fast-paced galloping riffs of Power Metal, only a high pitched vocal works. With chugging Thrash riffs, just about any vocal style works. Melodic, high pitched, rough/raspy voice, or even growling to a degree will work. But with Progressive Metal that doesn't have a clear cut melody, the vocals are often very disjointed, in that they don't really fit fhe music. I still like progressive metal/rock, but man, sometimes the vocals are off puting.
Awesome 😊 👍 he's so fun. Could you perhaps do a live version of Egypt, by Mercyful Fate, an earlier band of his? It's a great song, and good show of his talents. The Bell Witch EP version.
I never get tired of seeing peoples faces when he starts singing. :)

Thanks once again for sharing all of these ♥️♥️♥️
Todos los musicos que han tocado en king diamond y mercyfull fate son excelentes

Awesome 😊 👍 he's so fun.
Could you perhaps do a live version of Egypt, by Mercyful Fate, an earlier band of his? It's a great song, and good show of his talents.
The Bell Witch EP version.
Thanks so much for your recommendation💕
